For the C.E.O. To to be stored under the North Sea Now we're told the plant will be built on the former S.S.I. Site and you reckon that house had told B.B.C. Taze more about the project a specific project has 2 parts to it one is it produces energy and we're talking huge amounts of energy energy you know equivalent with some of the biggest national projects that we have in the U.K. Which is fantastic because it gives us more security of our energy supply and it helps and shows that it could be powering the U.K. Over the coming decades on the back of it though which is really exciting is this carbon capture and storage plan as well so basically it means that instead of admitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which a lot of energy plants do there is a process which will all be captured now some of it will go underground into the North Sea and be stored so it doesn't go into our atmosphere but one of the really exciting things we're looking at as part of this project is to use it so you might see in a while ago there was a shortage of alcoholic beverages because of the carbonated drinks Yes well 2 chemical plants in Teesside you know capture that carbon already on a small scale and it goes into that process this would do it on a scale that the world has never seen before it would be the world's 1st industrial scale carbon capture and storage game which is why it's taken so long because they've got to be working with government they've got to get the policy right not just nationally but internationally we are really at the cutting edge of this really clean growth technology in the world not just in the U.K. And that is not an overstatement absolutely fascinating isn't it so how soon could the plan turn into reality this is likely to be open running and finally built in the mid 2020 S. This is a big project they probably not going to be on site until 2020 potentially early 2021 because it takes 2 years to go through a planning process there's talk of a 3 year build it could take 3 years to build the thing which would create more than a 1000 construction jobs of that 3 year period and then when it is up and running we're talking hundreds of full time good quality well paid jobs are going to be sustainable over a 304050 year period that's been how it should end when alienate me at breakfast he repeats this morning and he's confident it will go ahead what I think the biggest announcement today is the fact that they've made it public that is a commitment that they've looked at over 50 business models across the world in their chosen T. Side and they've publicly said today. That choosing C.S.R. To come to that's a big step for businesses that collectively worth more than 500000000000 pounds are not going to make these decisions lightly that it's going to do this they're going to do it the plan is that they will make that final step into putting that space in the ground in 2020 but they've already commissioned a lot of work and spent a lot of money already as part of their engineering studies except So they are committed to this and unless something goes horribly wrong which I don't see that it will right itself no no this is this is nothing to do with practice at all again it's one of the reasons that they've been able to announce it because it's completely insulated from bricks It's about energy security within the U.K. It's about these big companies diversifying so the likes of B.P. Shell taught how to fish in the oil and gas companies that are trying to move away from oil and gas moving to clean energy we're still energy production in again with a fall from what could be a really interesting and a big revolution not just for the U.K. But the whole world of energy production so there's the views of the teas Valley may have been house in some I'm really excited I'm positive for the future but well the wider reaction Now earlier I spoke to live and people record an attorney and he says the companies have shown great commitment I'm always cautious about this often because we know we still haven't gotten a ship of the size still a lot of things up in the air that hasn't been tied down so the commitment by these big 6 global oil and gas companies is a major statement of confidence and I think the rest will come will be worked out and we can get through that detail but the reality is hey you've got a global project which is the 1st of its kind of these you know 60 countries including B.P. And Shell imagine and doing something that we've been talking about in this country for many years that was going to be a project down and really the White Rose project was cold and it feels like now key solid is going to be the place where this happened so it's really exciting when we can really turn ourselves from being a kind of 0 heavy industry energy intensive to be in a modern clean climate clean industrial hub and this is exactly where we want to base that's really positive news now we all need side you get to hear all the talk and all the whispers what are people saying to you about the taste funny our neck of the woods. Why are we so good at the sort of thing I think we've got a history and a heritage everyone knows that we're the beating heart the distro revolutions the infant Hercules we've got our history and heritage but we've also got everything we need to look forward as well as back you know we've got a fantastic workforce we've got the skills in an industry like this you know look energy intensive industries which we've always been you know still are minium chemicals that's always been our hub so with a perfect location to do this persecutors we have all the torch in the North Sea from the former oil and gas help so you know we've got the infrastructure here and we've got a fantastic workforce and everyone knows that so we've got the skills we've got the workforce to live with us we've got the space we've got the infrastructure we're absolutely leading the way so I'm so pleased that we've been selected and this is going to go ahead and it's a tribute to everybody you know across party who work together to deliver basic like it's really exciting and you know is a way off you have to be patient it's a real statement of competence and Pam What is the likelihood that it will be built on the form as I said because Ben said this looks like it's going to be up and running by me 2025 you know but not a long way away and so the pressure is on him and his team to so out the ownership with the type banks and you know what'll together with the government deliver that we've got the companies willing to invest now is exactly what we were discussing at the budget what we need is the ownership shortage and we need support from the government to ensure there's a clean up and so on as well so everybody's got a call together we've got a statement of intent and confidence from the private sector now the public sector has to step up as well secure the ship and the government has got to be fully committed to this is well actually by our who has a lot of things to sort out to get but the fact that we've been chosen is a massive state we have competence and I'm confident we can hope all together sort out all these issues and turn that site into a global hub really cutting edge technology which is really going to help Britain and the world tackle climate change targets this is critical now because of. You know our commitment to Paris we have to tackle climate change and there's evidence to show you could only carbon capture and storage is going to double the cost of being able to reduce our carbon emissions so you couldn't really quite help us reach our target place new technology.
