Broken down bus in East well known kings drive knowledge the speed sensors few minutes ago I suspect it's southbound south of the hospital as there was a bit of a queue showing up at the time we still got queues into the road works on long Furlong and you got a 10 minute queue southbound and now it's about the same northbound as well as you coming up the bypass expect delays there the 8 to 7 to just west of pay would see if they got road works causing a 25 minute queue eastbound a 15 minute queue westbound lots of you taking how to avoid it Ascot a 20 minute delay in both directions and also one Rocky lane and he would save on the $270.00 they got work that is also causing a 10 minute delay either way found with a winning team that still taking 15 minutes to. Travel review or travel updates 802321845. 6 travel you trust. 5 minutes past 9 Wednesday morning on Friday it's Children in Need hopefully you're going to get involved talk about it this morning what are you doing to raise funds 81333 on the tech start your message with the word radio in a few minutes we'll hear from the chief executive of the charity Simon and us to find out more about how the charity decides to spend the millions of pounds that will be racecourse some of that spent in Sussex and sorry on how as children need help you where you live are you involved in an organization which children need this help perhaps you've been directly affected. By the money raised by children need that help in some way to get in touch here's my number give me a call 803245 Also coming up today did you know that cassettes are back. This year they reckon they'll sell twice the number of cassettes they did last year people like Robbie Williams and Coldplay are issuing their new albums. Now seriously the vinyl revival I can probably. But. Honestly. And I did. In the studio and. Should come back. Start your message with radio. And the recently. This Coming and Never Can Say Goodbye starting our show today we did till mid day. Weekend the British photographic industry thinks it's going to sell around $100000.00 cassettes this year I mean surely this is it's a it's a dead technology it's gone isn't it sad it's day I love to say it's when I was a kid recorded loads off the radio like you do make up type c. a Favorite even I had a double Tet tape deck at one point you know but really 20 cassettes these days when you can stream millions of songs see a phone in seconds do you have to carry around a separate device to play music you've kind of you can't really change your spin through it all of that cassette to make a comeback it's 100000 units I reckon they'll sell the shit which is Tani really and in reality. I think they do evoke really warm memories just talk to Mike in East Grinstead how Mike. And your story with cassettes is that. Yes article and I were 6700 cassette deck made in 191708 is worse like new when a friend of mine and the Hank Cross is a wizard with electronics yes he did a repair on it some time back yeah but it's actually a perfect machine it was very expensive when it was New Right but the reproduction is quite incredible you wouldn't know you were listening to a type if you heard it play through my system and you still listen to your old cassette we use it every weekend really and how many I mean how many cassette tapes of the gods or did I have 3 or 400 I suspect some very old some go back to 1972 and you get your old winding problem you have to put the Big 10 in they get a bit of wind. But but no 95 percent and I'd say marvelous condition Yeah but this machine is absolutely incredible it's really weighs a ton on strollers and it what sort of what sort of music you're listening to you know 3 or 400 says what sort of stuff you call secure Yeah some jazz mostly rock. But the reproduction is totally amazing. Well made you cannot believe it actually is inside the so clever I'm a friend and he is a wizard how to get information to rip a only into what you mention get hold of some details Good work good work Mike thank you for telling us about the cassette deck you're still using I've got my old cassette deck here because here's the thing. We talked about this yesterday I asked the engineer he said could you find an old cassette player somewhere in the storage area here and pop it back in the studio shouldn't have been studios anymore so he found one big old proper professional cassette model I come in this morning stick one of my cassette in it it does not work it is broke it needs fixing However I did find it home last night when I was rummaging around my old port to actually like Mike it's an old i wa a i.w.a. Member those is one of those that was my pride and joy I think for one time probably in the mid eighties sometimes a proper piece of. This will never work but I got to work I put some batteries in it and I've got a tape in there this is the other thing with cassettes when you have a little rummage around you turn up unexpected ones and what's lovely is of course people could give you tapes of favorite music and they put a little note on it a little sticker and this one is from my friend Lynn from years ago she thought I might like this album so just put a little sticker on it it says Maxwell and then the artist enjoy and a little smiley face and soon as I saw that it just took me right back so stick it in press play and see if it works and what Maxwell sounds like. Yes this isn't the mood of the day isn't it. I think I'll just leave that as a. Thank you that's a I've still got it by the Webster but that. If you want to share your stories back to sex do get in touch 81333 in the text at your message with the word radio that is too sexy for this on the morning that record let's move on and come back and talk about more about cassettes in a bit because we are looking forward to children in need Day this coming Friday so firstly at the radio station we're inviting you to bake some biscuits sell them to your friends or family to raise money for children in need that's pretty straightforward isn't it hash tag big biscuit break if you want to get involved we've been invited as the presentation team to make some biscuits ourselves and then given to Joe Torre It's Friday afternoon show where they'll be tasted by a chef that's bad news and I've been hearing that Allison Fern's has been making batches of cakes and perfecting her technique. That's not me that is not the person I am so 1st of all I thought I might just make a donation instead of making biscuits for children in need but what I've done now is I have relented and I've found a recipe and a make it the softer noon and it's going to be a one off batch of biscuits that we know trial run you get what you get However I will say with recipes I am good at following step by step instructions not that creative off the top my head in the kitchen but if you give me a list of instructions I can follow those pretty much to a t. So I currently have quite high confidence with the quality of my biscuits because the recipe book I've chosen is by a great person love the idea the recipe and the biscuits turned out super nice. If only I believe what I just said but we'll see but let's talk about children 8 if you are getting involved in some way this week which children need to get in touch let me know what you doing and also how his children need help where you live are you involved in an organization which has benefited from money raised for Children In Need to get in touch d.v.c. Saw 608-023-1004 extension 5. But 1st let's find out more about how the charity decides where to spend the millions of pounds that will be raised this week earlier I spoke to chief executive of the charity Simon and Firstly I think it's really important that we say a big thank you to you and your listeners for all the support you give to children in need and you are right there is a there's a big responsibility when that money comes in for us to make sure that it really does go to those causes that are going to make a difference to disadvantaged children young people across the u.k. So. Any community project charity a local charity that has an imaginative or creative idea that's going to make a difference to children young people's lives can apply for children the funding via our website every application that is made is considered very very carefully by our grants team and then passed on to the regional committees which is a team of volunteers who sit down and consider all those applications and then if all the boxes are ticked and the match didn't creative idea really does set the standard for helping and supporting disadvantaged children young people will get funded now I have to say it's incredibly competitive at the moment there's massive need out there for disadvantaged children young people that we have to support but I can say across sorry in Sussex there is some really exciting stuff going on so let me give you an example in sorry for example there's 39 projects being supported to the tune of. 2.3000000 pounds there's a lovely project called the prosper Ohthere to community interest company they get a 30000 pounds grant and that funding supports drama workshops centered on mindfulness in coping mechanisms for young people who are experiencing anxiety disorders and stress now in Sussex It's 52 projects the tune of 3100000 pounds and there's a fantastic project doing some very very important work called the Survivors Network Ltd that gets 119000 pounds over 3 years that funding helps the project deliver support to young people of either being victims of or risk of sexual violence so our whole variety there into 2 contrasts thing courses there but very much you know working very grass level a grassroots level you know right in the heart of communities and then so once the money is given to these charities to work with their further checks and balances on the kind of work they do with it and how that money is being spent absolutely yes so we don't we're very strongly believe that you don't leave the charity and forget about them once they've had the funding so each of our projects and charities that is supported by children need will be hooked up with one are one of our brilliant Grant team members and they will be working very closely not only to make sure that that money is spent appropriately and properly but also to make sure that the project or the charity is supported and can do the very best for disadvantaged children young people it's quite a big undertaking and we take that responsibility very seriously because of course that money's been donated very very generously by the great British public. And into I think sometimes we sort of big national charities people think well how much of what I'm going to raise actually go to good causes me use rather than for marketing or staff costs or whatever you know junkets whatever else it might be what's the story with children in need there what about administration costs and the like Oh in terms of the projects that we fund the way we kind of look at it is to say look. We want you to make the biggest difference for disadvantaged children young people so you need to tell us those things that you know you need funded to make that happen a lot of the things that they would tell us is that there is a project work her who if they work with these individual children young people make a huge difference to their lives but of course are wrapped around that are. Extra costs that we need to consider in terms of the application as well and it's absolutely right because of course a project work on their own without their laptop without the support of supervision and oversight may not necessarily succeed but in terms of Children in Need it self the charity you're the chief executive so it is your salary come out of the money that is raised how does that work I know my salary certainly does not come out of the money that's been donated by our wonderful supporters out there across the u.k. . The way the funding works for children need is that $95.00 pence a minimum of $95.00 pence in every pound donated will go to help and support children young people across the u.k. There is of course costs in terms of making sure that the grants. Manage to properly as we talked about and that the organization can run and sustain itself as well. Ok And finally Simon give us a couple of hints about what might be in the big show on Friday evening absolutely very exciting Friday nights of television we've got the 1st outing of the new television show that a reboot of something very old called crackerjack which is coming out with Sam and Marc we've got Tina Tina Turner the musical We've got Michael Blow and Alfie by Louis Tomlinson and again the 1st answering of Graham Norton red chair outside of the gray outside of the Graham Norton Show so very very exciting stuff to look forward to some entrust the chief executive of Children in Need speaking to me earlier at least yes any sport Hello hello there any high that you don't some fund raising in your family what's the story where I was stories I was going to swim for 2 and a half hours in the cells in center pool. Unfortunately I was rushed to hospital on the 25th will tell you that with paralysis in my right side. They don't know what it is at the minute but they know it's nothing serious so it's a case of not the physio and the testing but my kids have stepped up to the mark my son Joshua he is 11 and autistic has decided he's going to do a type style in our drive on Friday off to school with Season coffees and chocolate and day use and prizes. All of my love the people that sponsored me have transferred the sponsorship life's a deal so I'm so grateful for that my daughter I saw the dogs in Greece. And while I've been ill I've had 2 deliveries of dogs that my daughter has looked after and walked and said and made sure they come today forever Hines So that's transman Hunter very much. And you know everybody's been wonderful Wow that's what that's well mixed emotions obviously for you I hope you recover from your paralysis and of course she couldn't swim she just goes around in circles and I live. With I could go through all 3 miles in circles maybe yet know that now that I think recover 1st and then take it on so I hope that it next year I will be back well that's very kind of you and what motivates you to want to to do that when 2 and a half miles for children need in the 1st place I really badly with depression and anxiety. And I've come out of the other side. And it's my kids' potently. I wanted to get it nice and white so I started swimming and I kept swimming and I thought actually I could make a difference. Say I signed up I opened up a just given page and I thought there's no turning back now. That what I'm about thanks to responses for moving over to Josh was cake sale on Friday afternoon hope that goes well well done Josh thank you and to Jasmine as well for kind of helping out at this time as well such very good thank you very much indeed to the family for helping the children ate all the best Lisa thanks very much thanks nice to speak to you Michelle and you had hello Michelle Henery fundraising for children in need what do you come up with you all are well my daughter's decided that she's going to sleep rough in you Hurst. Churchyard for raising money for all those that sleep rough all the time so she's given up a night of her luxury she's code it helped raise funds for those who cannot and how do you feel about her you know thinking like that and taking action on her thoughts. She's very caring in what she does for other people. So I'm just proud of where they are thinking of it Ok Any idea how much she thinks she's going to write a c. She got target. As Also we counted up last night it's just about a 150 pounds mark. All her school. Thinking streaming braze sleeping out in the churchyard Yeah. But you get a fantastic Ok well. Yeah Ok well keep it on I want you we will tell you why there is an adult present that's what I asked while I was that that's what I was hoping the church as a creepy enough of the best of times let alone at night in November. But that's a really brave thing to there will be a challenge for I won't it yes if you like challenges probably see a. Team of. The children in a dimly nearly 400 pound she just likes to operate challenge that's amazing Congratulations to Bella Thanks for doing that for so send her our best wishes for that thanks Michelle thank you so 150 pounds potentially they're from Bella's sleep out but what happens to that money what's find out shall we this is Caylee the mom of an 11 year old boy who has a range of disabilities Sonny is non-verbal and has cerebral palsy epilepsy he goes to music therapy session at a nearby center and children in need pays money for 2 therapists. And he has kept saying he's had his own and so the effects him and question and as time went on we had fading problem and when he reached most times he couldn't see out and just couldn't do the other things out I was his eyes are different. And it was it was hard right you really. Couldn't do anything I just had to. Be there for him. And I was top of his have purpose in the room at the time with the doctor that it's just a light bulb and that I was just the same as any other day I would go home he still might be my little boy and that's that was really good advice because that's how it's always been since you can't I play child and and feel bad about it you just go get on with it and love them so they are. We use music as a means of communication to reach out to someone who lives in isolation to disability and then they come to music service and all of a sudden they start to blossom and they started thrive and they start to open up and parents see this changing a tire for her we've been for the possible or. So with r.b.c. Children I mean none of this progress none of this realisation of potential could be possible. I watched the 1st session we did Petra and Sunny just responded so well he was vocalizing of a number per child to say that was just just amazing. And since then he's been coming this is a 2nd round of music therapy and when he comes out every single time he comes out he's being mean with a smile every everything quake. We're not sure the future house and I. Always concise So we continue to love and care for him the rest of his life and just to make every type fun as we can. Sonny and his music therapy funded by children in need so if you can get involved do it in whatever way that is where that sitting down from the t.v. On Friday night watching the telly pick up the phone and texting in to donate or buy baking biscuits which is what we're doing. Big biscuit breaks or going for a swim. Like we were going to do with before so if you were to get in touch tell me what you're doing for children need this shit and if you have benefited in some way if you've been helped by money raised but children need to give me a call this morning here's my number 180-232-1045 b.b.c.
