Radio Scotland nice finds victorious 5 minutes after 9 o'clock. Good morning Stephen Jordan b.b.c. Radio Scotland Brady Ekeroth 21st coming up 3 hours of your abuse and the stories making the news on today's program do you want to see the prime minister take part in a party leaders t.v. Debates that's the phone in this morning or way to eat 5995 double 0 Also this morning the Duchess of Cambridge has spoken about feeling lonely and isolated after pregnancy what are the challenges facing new mums also on the program of a Speaking to Chloe Bryan 16 year old girl who believes a cancer vaccine has left her in a wheelchair and did you hear m.p. Dawn Butler on Radio 4 pm program last night and. I have I've said Custer copy from memory but let me say that definitively awkward later in the show we'll find out what lessons from political interviews we can all apply to real life to calls your stories morning with Stephen Jordan b.b.c. T.v. Useful but 1st the general election campaign is underway or 3rd in just 10 years but this one will be different prime minister to these amazing Husing to take part in the t.v. Leaders' debates we saw in 20102015 she says instead she wants to concentrate on getting out in the boat and speaking to people on the streets but opposition parties say she's running scared and the voters deserve a debate one broadcaster has said they will go ahead anyway despite the prime minister's decision so what do you think. Do you want to see a leader's t.v. Debate 285995 double 0 that's the phone a number or you can text each to 205 Peter on the text says I do not want to see anymore ever as they do not sure the policies of political parties they just should the personalities of the people taking part and not in a good way join in Glasgow not a great fan of these t.v. Debates I feel we achieved a very let's 0 but if it instills terror in the number what's not to like and to more to reason these Carette not taking part in a media circus and this one me should participate in t.v. Debate she's a prime minister she called the snap election she should explain why and discuss her policies for the u.k. That used to get is kicking off but what's your view on this week 285-9295 w e 2295 should the Prime Minister take part in a t.v. Debate let's speak for us this morning to Henry Hill assistant editor of Conservative Home Henry good morning thanks for your time this morning no problem this was good enough this format this approach this was good enough for 2 previous prime ministers why is it not good enough for 2 these are me. I think basically I suppose a treasonous decision not to have them I think David Cameron was unwise to call them in 2010 it's sort of a traditional ritual for the challenger to call for t.v. Debates in the expectation of the prime minister says no the v.c. Gordon Brown messed that up so we ended up with them the problem with t.v. Debates is that they as some of your sort of callers of Texas said they really don't live in it much about apologies are actual policies for the politicians not the voices. You know I didn't say it was a vote of soldiers all but the fire doesn't change the fact that they're not very helpful as ways of scrutinizing the party leaders they suck an awful lot of time out of the 2nd office when they have the campaign they tend to be opportunities for exchanging soundbites with each other almost every So I think people like me who cover the election get little dramatic moments like you know minute on tripping or whatever. They really are helpfully focused a campaign on the leaders when we actually do have a parliamentary or open a presidential system so I think that we do need more scrutiny for political posturing election campaigns they definitely have got to cross it but I just don't think the. Leaders debates are a helpful way to do I'm sorry indeed but again that's the fall of the politicians they should be up for scrutiny if he chooses not to answer a straight question with a straight answer that they'll be carried. The day should be facing more scrutiny Absolutely I think if you really want to help scrutinise politicians in German election campaigns then campaign to bring back the morning news briefings that they will use today where you have senior members of every campaign sitting and taking questions from journalists every morning that is a much more effective way of scrutinizing a campaign even you know with the best will in the world the elect the election debate all of that they will inevitably not you know if you don't have the dream of some kind of put on a republic where there where all the politicians are sort of exchanging would be debates with each other they will inevitably end up being. Credibly overassessed opportunities for politicians to exchange soundbites with each other knowing that what they're trying to do is create a good 30 seconds that the evening news that is how those debates worked in 2010 it's how those debates was in 2015 and it is simply the nature of the format the format of an election debate actually an apology entry system like ours is not a very good one Henry is there is no Henry there is no more over a hair situation in the morning used the things I've been at them is when the politicians from a particular party try to set the agenda the news agenda for the day on a particular subject they shouldn't be up to them it should be up to what the public want to discuss and the public want to debate and hear them answer questions about and that's the whole point of these leaders t.v. Debates was or was the point of the latest t.v. Debates it's the point of them is for the politicians to be grilled on the matters that concern the people the studio audience and the questions that been sent in advance that's the opportunity that the public have to put the leaders on the sport not the readers to set the agenda themselves for the day's discussion but Journal journalists as. Scrutiny events such as news conference and so on they can take a lot they can answer and questions you know it's a really old morning news conferences used to have a journalist it's of course time of politicians it becomes engender they go in with an agenda to the t.v. To the t.v. Debates as well it's about the questions you ask and putting them under pressure the facts matter is that you don't learn anything or you don't learn very much on the on line on the t.v. Debates it's incredibly superficial and it completely drains the energy for the rest of the campaign if you look at the impact that the t.v. Debates had especially on the 2010 election where they were sort of in full force we had rather sort of sort of like versions in 2015 they completely disrupted the rest of the election they sucked all the life out of the rest of the election campaign and we ended up having an entire election campaign about like mania which didn't turn out to be a thing it sort of distracts the people like me. Covered the election and following it day to day it sucks up a huge amount of our energy and focus and actually lead to some way from what from a wider market scrutiny of the campaign I just don't think that helpful I think Maryland and they also really focused the entire election campaign and coverage of the election campaign on a few highly scripted never clashes between leaders who are trying to generate sound bites and not effective Henry I'm sure you had an interview to become the assistant editor of Conservative who generally called the made the point in a tweet last night everyone has to have a job interview everyone has to go through a selection process the prime minister seems to think she's above the bar refusing to keep on a t.v. Debate and I don't think that's true yesterday the talk about an interview is very interesting So as far as I can remember I might be wrong about this pressing crosser So as I have said that she's willing to be have a grilling for example with Janet Jackson or somebody like that one on one and then maybe maybe take questions from the audience what the only thing as far as I'm aware that series of one has ruled out is a head to head class with all the leaders and actually if you're going to have a televised spectacle a job interview style thing is exactly the sort of thing I'd like to see get separate Get a journalist or a proper interrogator there have a proper q. And I session and then yes maybe have to maybe have to try the prime minister and the other candidates still questions from the audience what I'm not interested in is seeing the various posse leaders trading quips with each other because that's not helpful if we are going to have televised debates a job interview format would be a much better one of the debate let's have that Henry Stay with us Henry Hill assistant editor of Conservative Home the general election campaign is under way our 3rd in 10 years this one is different though the primus that says she won't take part in a head to head t.v. Lead is to be the way we saw in 20102015 she wants to be in the by meeting people in the streets and talking to them instead but her opponents see she's running scared and you the voter does there a debate one broadcast is going to go ahead anyway despite the Prime Minister's the . Would you want to see do you want t.v. Does the beat we need to eat 59295 the blue eat to 205 to take gym isn't done didas morning morning Jen yet did more or less what do you think Yes Well I'll tell you I was thinking about here you know Mrs May clearly there's not much concern for the environment with the consent of carbon footprint when she's traveling up and down the me in all these people surely she could just go in the t.v. And access millions of folk why would she want to be driving around all over the place and you know destroying the environment that she cares about and how about so Boss Well yeah exactly you know unless she's going to be using you know Chip files something you know but I would imagine that would be if we were able or you know a system either out against a poet here you know she's not prepared to you know to speak to the people you know which is one of our own our own Ted Rowlands you know and it's not against of power but Jim but pretend we go on just fine in election campaigns with t.v. Debates with deference to the really neat Well you know well it's tough to tell but as I said the Liberal Democrats of the lever you know was it not classic He seemed to get a boost you know and as far as I'm led to believe Nicholas Thompson is quite telegenic and seems to come across quite well you know hey it's more than technology you know we're quite happy using war you know we're quite happy to use it in very you know lots of different ways know to communicate with people you know so it's part of the modern world to know so that's how it goes you know and she needs to you know life surely you know I can't believe that she's not utilizing You know this modern technology they have here should know something to let the issue you know I don't understand you know why she does not want to communicate with as many people as possible you know anyone given moment in time you know seems very strange very old fashioned Jim thank you. View this morning Jim's up 1st on this from Bundy You can join the debate on a way to eat 5195 w. It's all about your view 80 to 95 to take his gym in Motherwell Stephen t.v. Debates can be a farce really and wait bring him on I'm all for live t.v. Debates with no pre-warning us to what the questions are going to be Andrew in Kilwinning what would be better than t.v. Debates would be for you just needed to keep you in the chair in front of an audience and grilled by the audience and the passion into being that the debates just turn into a shouting match the 2205 if you want to take his or we to eat 59295 w. If you want to call it like Jim in past show this morning morning Jim Yes I'm honest even if you want to see if he debate Jim in the past never had a tower highly secure she's obese had a whole balance call and as well and the one child who comes on holiday but I landed at the end as to these I mean it's called that salvation Surely she needs to step up to the mark here and national need some homo sexual partners scrutinizing the pm and different policies are for example and on a policy all of the need cause there for maybe compassion on how to possibly change that so the funniest things behind the come like f f f f now he's a potty on the pavement the son is prepared to change policy but I asked him myself actually this is not that we have to do that's why didn't she have a name plane a chair and it was in fact us for our t.v. Denise is quite high so here for the public do what some and so a lot of a whole lot somewhere to hide something and doesn't share every part of it but that's politics are hot and only Jim You did very well she has gone nothing to gain from this and everything to lose doesn't but aside not what what what the problem is I mean I mean it depending on the same how to be. But I still have to. Bring it down to pass analogies when this should be a boat policies well. People in America can't cash in our cheese. Parties do you think we're going that way as well no question. Politicians. Very much know in way the coverage taking. Place Just Jen thanks for your call this morning 285-9295 w e 2295 to take Joe in Paris to these Emmys a poor performer and to be struggles in pm cues that's the only reason why the 2 of the party are refusing to take part don't let them use spurious arguments about for much try to protect who I think is their coat on pair snowball candidates somebody else t.v. Debates a waste of time another 1 May is right stay away from t.v. Debates just play with not allowing them to answer a question all political presenters all think they are Jeremy Paxman 285-9295 do you want to see a t.v. Leaders' debate during this election campaign it's a 2 to 15 to text every day I pass people on the street strangers and they say they like my smile but back home since I am born my mother told me girls must not smile Nazanin has been in Glasgow for almost a year is obvious don't end there show it on yes 4 days at the same place yes as she waits to find out whether she can stay in the u.k. Meet some of the people who make the city cops in 2 minutes you come a husband I will see her do so without room for Refugees drama by going to Stevenson from $130.00 on. B.b.c. Radio Scotland lives in touch with b.b.c. Reduce Scotland down unless recent numbers who eat. 9295 you can to the tune 295 more challenges apply this is b.b.c. Radio Scotland. 120 on a Friday on b.b.c. Radio Scotland the general election campaign is underway or 3rd in just 10 years this one is going to be different though Prime Minister 3 Zimmy refusing to take part in the t.v. Leaders' debates we saw in 20102015 instead she says she wants to be out and about on the streets speaking to the people but opposition parties say she's just running scared and the voters deserve a debate one broadcast is going to go ahead anyway what do you think do you want to see a leaders' t.v. Debate does it matter to you to wait 59295 w e 2295 to text as this morning Simon The former Labor advisor morning Simon learning Stephen thank you for your time this morning these debates that are by personality not politics on the what do we actually gain from. The personality of the leader to use them instead of state of already saying this is all of a we don't ship and it does come through but also people discuss policies and I would say that it's a bit of a mess that people don't like t.v. Debates to get 3 figures the Scottish referendum 2015 surveys after the last general election showed up over a 3rd of people made their decision on t.v. Debates recently we are we with a cinematic or even France where they are holding the presidential election. Is because she feels she has something to lose. Because the polls of such a position and I think her party years worried about her personality as a. Convincing personality but I will. People complaining about t.v. As t.v. Is the last sort of link with the pasta and you can go way back to the teams of the ancient Greeks Socrates as Henry held it to achieve a fair to the Platonic Ideal the leaders argued our debate back in ancient Greece they did that and roll like you can do that against Doug let's remember these people don't have the town hall meetings that people used to go to even in this country but t.v. Brings it into your home and brings it into the pool and people do get charms to Luke and I think it's a good idea as well. The t.v. Journalists step back a bit and do it believe those fights among amongst themselves but also they it's a good idea that members of the audience as they do a lot more cinematic to get a chance to step forward with their Christians but you take the arguments I mean I mean what you know debating with voices on Twitter so that's you know that's the new technology that say people are going to new things to communicate these days and then to the day Sunday it's not in her job description that she needs to know in the Constitution that we have to have the t.v. To be so why should she because this is modern life this is this is why people like she'll go on every chance she can get for stage manage t.v. Slots t.v. Is the most influential part of the politics to d. And always been sure is that there's been study after study doing it and as you and I know as journalists even it the role of newspapers as more and more diminished social media plays a role but that's about to say spirit and everyone just you know talking preaching to the converted or chucking abuse at people but to me being to be successful what my thing and and I think this is a Labor man Gordon Brown did get exposed a bit as being a bit indecisive and worn out and I think people labor people would admit that 20 tend to be that's what it was like I know with Mitt again a Ed Miliband did not come across another. In a convincing manner in 2015 but that's the that's the hard facts of the game really and politicians have to put themselves forward and that same as ridiculous but she feels she can get away with this as out again even so one Tory commentator describing t.v. Debates as vulgar you know well the origins of vulgar is a common people but the feel of it above it but today it's just framed in comprehensible the politician thinks it can get away with this and I think it's up to the broadcasters to be a lot tougher about it but you appreciate the Constitution I think it should maybe be drafted in to a I don't know if it's an actual constitutional but some of the parliamentary rules on elections we should include television debates because that bottom line that Israel will get their information for just ignoring news and fix tempo and you might just ignore that today I'm going to say can stay there Simon let's bring Henry Hill back in the assistant editor of Conservative whom you've been listening to and this is just arrogance isn't saying we are not prepared to do well that people want us to do. I mean the people really I think that's a problem when you're in the when you're in the bubble as all of us thought that you sort of overestimate the extent to which anybody is hugely animated by these questions outside it I mean you do to people watch them yes I never actually claimed the television debates were bad television they either have been quite good television but that's possible why they're so disruptive because the amount of time it takes leaders to prep to go on them completely eats into the rest of the campaign but I think the important thing to address here is that we've had reference to fonts we've had reference to America the thing that the crucial difference between those countries and Britain is that in those countries the debates address a crucial deficit which is that as they are presidential systems they often especially in America you know you often see the president grilled in the way he is in a debate from one from one election to the next there's no regular sessions in front of Congress you've got that sort of bizarre ritual with the press with the press secretary in the morning but in the United Kingdom the prime minister is faces the house every week they are subjected to this sort of questioning every week there is not the same deficits of scrutiny in the u.k. System the debate addresses so I debate does this I stand by everything I said earlier it does disrupt the campaign and it does say distract attention from journalists on the public away from. The from more useful issues but most of the point it doesn't actually address the problem in the same way that it doesn't the Americans are not going to see what that's a good point Simon Pia come back in and they say if you want to see a t.v. Debate with the party leaders you can watch the b.b.c. Parliament channel every week in prime minister's question show was so off toward the prime minister. I don't think that's a very good analogy also what Himly seeing. To me to me is 1st debate she went on to bowl I think we can win sort of long term Labor's richest majority it was completely stage managed and. You know that as Henry and I both know this having worked on the dark slate as you may call it Stephen but I've also worked on the bright side with you and you know going to these morning press conferences how they're staged when you're at $1.00 opportunities there's a ring of Eads rate writing them Part 2 workers and they're all stage managed manufactured basically they're very upset want to guess what's on the Evening News with theirs and as ridiculous for Henry to see to try and defame that to reason me would have to stand for American honor and a half with the other leaders also a simpy does they're very much to be unless they've had their problems and possibly kicked out of it but with a $56.00 M.P.'s and this this election going to defying the Constitution for many years to come of a scientist Robertson our star general staff that's part of the question and people in England and Wales does they have to see that brought into the equation as well because we're just we kept the u.k. As a whole here and that will be missing that to resolve me gets away with this so there's a theme the leader or whoever the pitot is entitle to go Ok decade with the reason me on this about the future of the Union all we're talking about here Henry you know is greater transparency is that really too much to ask in 2017. On not against greater transparency and I saw I'm not against using television in the campaign I think I think this is something that's really important to say you know if you're in the right form I'm on the no no no they're on humans as well you don't want to know their alternate equals maybe please do me the courtesy of listening they're all formats that work I think the putting party leaders in a chair having them grilled by journalists and then grilled by the public that's all great how that you know you've done is an effective way the job interview analogy that was used only was perfect but it's the best way to do it I just believe and I stand by it the kind of Glebe gladiatorial nature of the in to leader stuff he's on health were speaking about earlier but the tutorial was a. Story both prefigure trust that you get here that you get 40 on a new. Assignment I'm not going to be a single cause they know I'm at the at they just comes down to to glib point scoring which is what Henry was saying what's the point. It's more than that you get a measure of the past and the reason I'm able be confronted with a lot of big issues Jeremy carbon as well why ingots Robertson over there thing p p top for it and I'm almost forgotten the name of the Lib Dem guy Mr 5 and but no the do I say I do agree with Amy there should be different sorts of formats of doing things I agree I think we should be head to head drillings But the idea that you are claiming that you are a leader and you are afraid to stand in front of the country as general election campaign and debate with other leaders and town hall format to the g.p. Public at large is just ridiculous and what does it add to the minister's questions doesn't already provide what does it put what do we get out of a t.v. Debate that we don't get all hot summer on the television already but the total point you're used to pm accuses that no it's pm chooses even more glib saying base because it's a lot shorter than types are and the prime minister has the advantage of always having the last word. But my point is I you know I can see the shortcomings of a pm Tuesday but I think that what I don't see is what the debates give us given the enormous amount of resources they suck up given how they completely dominate the campaign given how they mistreat their Mr Ector media and how you end up with the latest squirreled away for weeks or. How what or what in exchange for all that we don't get 30 times a year a prime minister is quite well let's find out writes ask the listeners what do you get from the t.v. Leaders' debate and do you want to see one this time around in this election campaign is 82859295 double to 295 to Texas that was Henry Hill assistant editor of Conservative Home thanks for your time Henry and Simon p. a Former Labor advisor is going to stick with us on this as well because your views that matter was beats David in Livingston bill in Sterling after travel just going 131 years and thank you Stephen I'm looking to him and ask for the speed sensors are still picking up a few delays on Kenneth Street that's the 82 both directions at the junction of Tom the hood Street and the least 2 on Longman road both ways at Harbor road and wrestle traffic on in 1000 Queens fed it would spend between the Quality Street junction and clear mist and road north congestion on Queens very little to cram and bread to all you get roadworks in the area and the closure of Glasgow to it will also be adding to that congestion traffic on is $77.00 both ways at the homes to about that's the a 70 and a long time Mark to join anyway between them and Crocket for it west of the do more roundabout at Glen and that means traffic controls when necessary so he heads up there that's b.b.c. Radio Scott the travel thank you very much Friday morning on b.b.c. Radio Scotland coming up after 10 the Duchess of Cambridge says that becoming a mum left her feeling lonely and isolated Is that something you understand we'll be talking about the challenges faced by new mothers later in the program we'd love to hear your experiences get in touch with those who had to wait 59295 w e 2205 to text and that's the same numbers for our phone and this morning Gordon Brown did it. David Cameron did it but to reason he says she won't debates with the other party leaders during the general election campaign on t.v. She prefers to be open about talking to the voters on the streets but their opponents say voters deserve to see a debate and she's running scared at least one broadcast is going to go ahead regardless so what do you think one of the leaders t.v. Debates do they work for you as a format and do you want to see another debate this time to eat 59295 w e 2295 to text Eileen and then Brad Henry who was absolutely right these t.v. Debates are editing all the and interrupting is insufferable pain in the bum I learn nothing anonymous one the t.v. Debate formats a bit dull some sort of crept in factor battle would be more informative that would be fun Jack in 5 people who want t.v. Debates need to get a life the are cringeworthy with the beats I think he means and Jenny in 5 I think this is me is quite right not to do the debates they're boring and just an excuse to through accusations at the other parties no one actually answers a question what do you think it's a 2 to 95 to callers it's way 285-9295 double David is not having seen this morning morning David good morning shoot to these any take part in these debates absolutely should to still to do so is just a demonstration of cowardice recently elected. Whether she's actually going through the Asian process yet so. It's a debate but under parliamentary rules she is able to be time minister she's no call the general she clearly wanted to be a single issue she's covering Rex but any general election is so much more than. The debate itself takes into account the many hundreds of thousands of elderly in uncertain legal who are unable to get to meetings. Gives them an opportunity to. Questions being asked that relate to them after all to the semi the rate clause in the benefits new benefits bill. Welfare situation the n.h.s. Situation she doesn't want to answer questions and open television on those issues because she and her government would be exposed as the people who are continuing their own will spiral in the majority of these people you talk about parliamentary rules there is no rule that the has to be your t.v. Has to be she doesn't need to do this so why should she. Because she has a responsibility to pee in front of the public and explain the course of action her government has taken as a moral duty in your view absolutely I'm all the g.s.t. And she's failing to do so and any self respecting broadcaster in this situation would clearly take the decision to be the sort of public debate that she has to be open to scrutiny and any question on those panels and everyone knows the Prime Minister's Questions stage managed she's informed in advance of situations she has a whole team behind who are monitoring all the questions lightly to be asked and preparing it answers if you watch a prime minister stand despise votes and answer the question she flips a big bill with a yellow stick to acquit the relevant answer so stage management and when Henry hill tops of the stage management he should know Simon clearly understands what stage management is all about anyone who's been involved in business understands the process but 30 some a clearly has taken the decision that she's not able to stand up to scrutiny in a number of issues in advance of the general election and that's why she's unwilling to participate and in my view it is an act of cowardice to think your hearts are the pros. I think I think her inability to to say and so many of the issues particularly in relation to the n.e.a. Jazz welfare cuts. Damage are the polls and that's why she's unwilling to stand there David thanks for your call this morning David's was in Livingston moderates on the text the reason to reason me doesn't want to debate is the same as the brakes a referendum just on the public to know what party's going to do she wants to keep us in the dark about things that affect those we are supposed to vote for something we don't know anything about if she keeps us in the dark we can't make an informed decision Jack and takes to the Prime Minister's right not stick by these debates little about policy they're also very dependent on the quality of the journalist who takes charge a 2 to 95 to Texas with your view this morning do you want to see a leader's t.v. Debate what you get out of the more chin them in 5 to text 28592952 blue to call builds and startling morning Bill Welling do you want to see a debate on t.v. With the party leaders before the election my friend has a necklace certain should not part of every question is not a candidate it just gives an opportunity to pretend to be a socialist and also percent to be a nationalist shall be a nationalist when she is nominated and languish Minister for Police she's a party leader leader of a party with 56 M.P.'s in the House of Westminster but she's not candid but it's a party leaders debate so I can do these debates is a party leaders debate. No I think she's just being given an opportunity despite her usual lies thanks for your call this morning William is an alum of this morning 82859295 blue to call is William Good morning good morning Michael no problem should we see a t.v. Leaders to be and should the Prime Minister be there. I think it's the fish up there and they didn't know what that Are they just continue to follow the script do you think much to do you not think you've got a real insight into what they're really like the can because God sometimes the county or no no no. Any of the earlier they call they any of any of the only you know if you want to do it so know that telling that on the news of the day I don't I Ok you can argue listen did you see from some of these tough questions yesterday and I know it's no the general election that was pathetic similarly pathetic the good that we speak to and you just pull over and there's no more what question asked I was listening last year to got it almost in the moment you 17 just one particular politician a question 7 times that was No I answered as pathetic the way that you would but you also get with these block building issues for what you want to give us some of the 4 months we miss the chance for the public to go face to see with our political leaders on these questions up to them out of the answer or don't agree with our diets r.t.d. But it just doesn't work that doesn't work because of the script already and they just level and blow and. Want to know if I will do it. Honestly Well I'd usually stop the wars and end of a 10 minutes and I think that's enough to cause a Playstation or frustrated thespians something really want to put the phone. I think so some may have the opportunity to do that after the election campaign if things don't work out William thank you very much for your call this morning it's 82 to 95 to text as Kenny and ask him not sure of the value of what you learn from t.v. Debates yes we're voting for a party but also voting for who we think the local m.p. Will represent as those 2 reason may have something to lose possibly will influence my vote very unlikely join I'm not in favor of a TB debate it's just a slagging match where the control of the debate cannot keep the speaker under control Laura in Glasgow really does debates they don't actually discuss anything properly because it's all about playing to the audience ends up with them squawking and talking over each other so a new thanks from you what you're due to 295 to text as we had to wait 59295 w. To call us Marjorie's done that she's in I think that morning Marjorie Good morning Steve and you ready for a t.v. Leaders' debate I don't want to t.v. Lead us to beat I think that a shambles and I think me is quite right not to be part and one you do and need to be a slick t.v. Performer to be a good leader there's more to being a leader of a party or a country than just having a slick on the television doesn't need to be slick but does she not need to stand up and defend her record Well I think you know we can all see what's happening we knew what she should key the key to be and it's just a sign you much and they all have their own point of view they're not willing to listen or debate other people's spines of you what's going to happen what's going to happen if she continues to refuse to take part and broadcasters go ahead with the debate without her how's that going to look do you think from her point of view Marjorie I think it shows that she sensible and it's like the others will argue among themselves of you know be all ganging up and just say well it is getting slanging it misses me all the time and think it's just a nonsense they're doing actually to be the subject they all have their own point of view you see that in the Scottish. T.v. When the. Doing 1st minutes minister's questions and they're all sighing each other and hopeless absolutely hopeless and I think he's quite right not to to involve them Ok Marjorie Stay right there I want to introduce you to join who's in Glasgow this morning who's got a different view on this Joan good morning good morning Steve you had what Marjorie got to say there's nothing to be learned from this and that to resume is quite right to step back and say No Yeah well defended she's created step by but she's stepping back because she's not very good at it stands across the despised Tolly I don't agree with that sort of like sorry I do I do have opinion so I think you should talk treason its policy of not speaking she stands across the ball from the tourist Labor leader than almost 40 years and struggles to leave blows on him now he's a sitting duck sheep could not stand the heat of standing in a debate with informed politicians which is will best deciles from just having random questions thrown at them and the Parliament can count the last word and then again she will have to answer and counted on for she will have to take questions from the public and she may actually expose Jeremy Corbin But the problem she has as she will lose to the other leaders foreign necklace dungeon the better debaters better all that doesn't help she doesn't want to do it that's patently we are not that is my point joined Yes she does she's I'm very pleased to see her is still a gesture she believes is a very good debater doesn't mean he will literally a good leader I mean national behind her they say was I repeat bleaters obviously Karzai agreed to return lead not mean to leave it there is a good leader of the European Union and she has to go into the beach with $27.00 of the leaders to join what he does not want to doesn't have to do join is this could be it's not in the Constitution it's not in her job and job description she's got only something to lose and nothing to gain from this so why should she. Absolutely if I were her I would not I'm simply explaining the reason she's not doing is because she knows that as something she will lose the only people that don't want the debates of those that want to lead me to when I just wish they could be honest debate everyone else wants to see the debate because they're hoping that their leaders can change against someone who's goal very good in this field and has such a big lead that she can only lose that's not democracy that's protecting the lead the House and really what she's trying to do as leader of the dictatorship by forcing it to an election and then refusing to discuss the topics in public so Marjorie Jones says she's just not very good amounts why she doesn't want to be exposed in a t.v. Debate but she's maybe not ex-pats and they debating that as I've said all along there's more to being a leader than being a good orator or a good debater but I mean that's not everybody has the ability to stand up and be as slick performance and public but that doesn't mean to say she's not a good leader and Lesser I do not think the whole saying should be balanced on some of these performance and the t.v. Quite honestly I think there's far more to it and those that mean that one computer out because they know she's not a good debater they're saluting or in point of view John thank you as I can I can but it's that's why she doesn't want to do it but as asked by her on the mission she's not very good at this why would she sacrifice herself I think a leader should be good at that I think if she truly believes in the policies which you have to have some doubts are very because she was a strong voter to re remain and the European Union she was a great advocate of the so I'm not convinced that she thinks her arguments are going to stand up to the sort of scrutiny the other party leaders can bring with their and say knowledge of everything that goes on within parliament but perhaps we the public don't know how I'd love to see those debates I think the very energising I think everyone in the country 7000000 people watched the last debate I would challenge treason me to go and find some public forum where she can go in the 7. When people the ability if she does the speech of the next week I don't think she'll get to see that many people join in Glasgow Marjorie knotting thank you both for your time they've had their seat you can have yours on or way to eat 59295 w. Or e 2205 To Text Allison says televised leaders' debate I watch them the same way I might watch a Romney on a soap opera the fact that so many people base their decision on them is a good reason as to why we don't bother with them even Greenock Never mind these debates when we get more interviews with leaders by Gary Tank Commander can watch the space gene for Beacon many people watch t.v. Not so many read newspapers the t.v. Folks see who they are voting for here with the see which are good reasons to have these debates it's a 2 to 15 to share your views with us on the text pick up the phone it's way 285-9295 w. To speak to me this morning 146 in a slightly Allan's in clock manager morning Allan good morning i don't want to see a t.v. Debate No one told the pointless they just can stay sane based sceptics you can show the latest to send up control names don't their nest as completely pointless and on the same way of so Westminster debate there is no place for any m.s.p. To be involved to waste Mr Ellison. What about transparency I mean surely any lights that shone on policies and on politicians is a good thing and that's why these debates were introduced that you don't learn. From these debates and make up any policy that they were shooting is going to be a good same base of the news or the Camilla free along the disabled that they think well that's going to saying good. Bye 2nd club back and use that for just a vis a vis a common it used to be so the average voter. Absolutely previous jobs just said 7000000 people voted what stolidly just to be 65000000 but and so you look at the end of. The public watched. The. Main point it all and then our own thank you very much Alan thanks for your time this morning is a 2 to 95 to text as 859295 double 0 to call it this morning we have politicians and other news makers who are actually setting the agenda each morning often the stories the answers they give us will make up the news as it progresses through the day ordinary people we interview just leave you thinking wow you know what a person oh what a story good morning Scotland's world events and also what is happening here in Scotland and in the u.k. As well it's fasting when something breaks you can have a story on the air it's that sense of immediacy Scotland's breakfast nice programme blasphemies sports headlines focus on b.b.c. Radio Scott to try let's get the weather forecasts like Christopher done checked everything you need to know every day on b.b.c. Radio Scotland coming up after 10 the 16 year old Scottish school go he says her life has been ruined by a simple vaccine What's her story will find after the 10 o'clock news that right now we're on the phone and on b.b.c. Radio Scotland and were discussing the prime minister's decision not to take part in a t.v. Leaders' debate it was good enough for a previous S's. Why is it not good enough for do you want to see a t.v. Leaders' debate involving the prime minister one broadcaster says they will go ahead regardless what do you think 080859295 w e 2 to 95 to text as Paul in Glasgow how many people watch Prime Minister's Questions these t.v. Debates engage the way the public in a way pm cues don't which is surely the whole point of politics who reckon Glasgow I'd like to see Question Time formats that should be extended to hours not only give the public the opportunity to ask questions but also for the person asking the questions to come back to the panelists our stuff from Glasgow it's a circus a slide show and a step up from a Jeremy Kyle Ramey the demeaning what you view it's a 2 to 15 to text as 828592952 boot to give us a call this morning t.t. Gordon is next up with us this morning she's cheated the local government campaign for the Scottish liberal Democrats key to good morning thanks for your time this morning. Why should the reason me take part in these debates this is basically an election that could change the direction of our country we have been talking about the damaging impact of breakfast for months now and she's called the selection so to be running scared of a key leaders debate flies in the face of common saying Surely she got the facts out her views and let the public know she can do that by travelling around the country and meeting voters face to face and doing up close and personal not through the prism of the media well being harangued by the politicians Well I think as one of your previous caller said 7000000 people watched the previous debates is not really 7000000 people the next 7 weeks I think is important when what we have seen the since the 23rd of June is an attack on anyone who disagrees with the conservative view of facts it is hard Bracks it you get the politicians saying and you get the media criticizing anyone who disagrees I think the. It's really damaging for demo Chris say I think it's really important that if you have got a you're wanting to lead the country out of the e.u. Something that will have a massive long term consequence if you have a responsibility to set out particularly when there is so much criticism of the nonsense and the lies that were told in the run up to the BRICs a debate breakfast for t.v. And someone to suggest the sale or do you think this should be enshrined in legislation that we should have these debates in this country no I don't think that sense because I think what's telling is this is what it says about to reserve May and about the Tories confidence or possibly arrogance that they think they can win the election anyway I do think that that broadcaster should go ahead an empty chair she would turn up because that is a very telling indication of her attitude and arrogance towards the public and not being willing to defend what I consider is an indefensible position position but she should still be up there defending it do you think it will impact on voters when they go to the polls. I think I think what it does is it speaks to a character issue and I think if it's the reason may is running scared I think that plays interview also which is that oh it's with what she's going around saying she's clear and she's straight she's out she's getting on with the job but she's not prepared to defend her decision and if she's changing our mind if she has done on saying I'm having an election now and she did say that so for the last several months I think it will possibly know in enough time to make a big difference into the election result but I think it plays into question of character issues one take when you think back 20102015 What did we actually get the t.v. Debates that to do to place then well I suppose I would say 2010 is certainly for the Liberal Democrats I mean you know you'll remember the I agree with Nick when he David Cameron and Gordon Brown were constantly seemed to be agreeing with Nick Clegg But I think what it did for us as a party was revealed to the public that Nick Clegg was very good now I don't think in the end it made a huge difference he actually lost a number of seats so you know it didn't make a huge difference by fire him it backfired for the Lib Dems So I think what it does do is it make sure the public is exposed not just to the Labor and Conservative point of points of view but to a broader range of views I think it's important that the public is aware of what other views there are what other parties that are and that kind of exposure is is important for democracy I think he Gordon thank you exciting T.T.'s cheer the local government campaign for the Scottish liberal Democrats what's your view on this way to eat 59295 w e 2205 To Text Mary's does not she says my kids 1412 and 9 would want to debate with us this is a chance for them to ask questions breaks up with that younger people most excluded from the process a t.v. Debate gives them a window into what's going on the couple of anonymous once a year the crowd that are being for the t.v. To be at this. Seen people who love watching After-School fight so we can see someone get a bloody nose t.v. Debates are all good and well says this one as long as there's a strong anchor man or women exacting control each to tuning 5 to take his way to 859295 the booty call is Martin Hannan is a writer for The National Newspaper s.n.p. Supporters well Morning Martin mind you do you think the Prime Minister has a moral duty to take part in a t.v. Debate she absolutely does. Have to say that we are now seeing a sado fifty's or me a lot of people in politics in always exists she is' be the consummate behind the scenes woman for years and somehow she managed to be the least visible almost secretary of. Frankly when there you see her exposed in public and it's not a very nice state and the fact is just to follow what your previous caller said if you if you look at the 7000000 viewing figures average for the last day we do the big banners about faulty actual working days left of the campaign so she would have to meet 150000 people every day to take reached our audience to reach the same audience 850000 people at v.t. For the next faulty or days and all that to get to reach an audience that she gave a couple of hours on on t.v. But what do you actually get that Martin has it takes to you there's no need for it to be we know the policies the are a farce is becoming like a vulgar reality t.v. Show to these amazing absolutely right says this person for a very simple I always amazes me the people who slag off the t.v. Debates he hated all of the sort of any decayed thing that they watched him no size or no every t.v. And aligned has got an on off switch so if you. You want to watch on leaders maybe you don't watch it no one's forcing you to watch it that are a lot of people one of your callers here will say. There's a bill elderly kind of house and he would like to see and perhaps even question the prime minister of all the party leaders and by the way all the party leader should be involved as a leaders debate site includes Yes the I think the Greens play calmly and you cap and let's get Paul not totally there so that people can see what is really late so it's about transparency for you Martin Absolutely Stephen It just is what we're getting at the moment is we're getting a snap election which don't forget she said she'd never call and we're going to get treason means you ram down a thought it's going to be completely stage managed that will hopefully be at some point the same sort of thing that happened to Gordon Brown plat to 2010 when he made that disgraceful remark about the pension only don't save and run in the papers for days afterwards but do you think she really is going to make that a mistake absolutely not she's going to stage manage to hell and the only time that there will be any kind of serious questioning all of our. By the public will be an leaders' debate format Martin thanks for your time this more that's Martin Hahn in the rights of the National Newspaper s.n.p. Support for Israel you know the takes the t.v. Debate format might no be passed they've been left to these I mean knocks on the doors of 70000000 homes the broader public won't see her or a government scrutinised the same applies to the other opposition parties of people he them guess what you can tune in to know that John McHugh for a walk refusal to participate is really to see the people being reminded of the shocking record in government your views 82295 way to eat 592952 blue jeans and Bank city this morning morning James good morning you offered a t.v. Debate yes a war you were doing me about these Emmys position is it is called a salacious in 3 years. Earlier than it should have been held she has stated that she wants to make about leadership and it's always this in this era she's going to the coast or present yourself along with all of the toes so that people can be made a choice based on what she will she will stick to I think it's clear this when the party's only I'd also agree with same it here this morning Katie and your other people call this is a martyr because it does say it will be only the what to some it does cut it to his voice James thank you very much the call one last one before the news George is an ironic show this morning morning George yes morning to you morning when you think yes mom up point is this the prime minister doesn't need tech e.-v. Debate all she wants to do is to sign off from the e.u. As an elected leader our u.k. Government doing the job the u.k. People put on a plate or ship it finished on their plate we told her to do it and why I think she wants the election to get the people of the United Kingdom behind to sign elsewhere already I would hope euro that can't be disputed we can go back to continuous Aranda well to retreat not so much to dispute given some of the stories are in this morning for the new e.u. President but shouldn't she be up for scrutiny on this is not the whole point of this George while I think it really is the end of the day let the people decide either there how we can continue to given the job to simply sign us off from Europe and then we can look at our policies for the next 4 or 5 years whatever George thank you for your call this morning still really busy in the coast we need to take some more in the next couple of hours of the program Also coming up this morning though it's the busy issue the 16 year old who believes a cancer vaccine left her in a real here she's with me after 10 also the Duchess of Cambridge says motherhood left a feeling lonely and isolated we're going to hear about the challenges of being a new mom and what lessons we can know when and. Debates what happens or something major took place while the debate was going on Alexandra and those who have a b.b.c. Question time with the party leaders led by David Dimbleby are asking when to see him in the canteen at lunchtime David in case there's nothing transparent about t.v. Debates you're seeing there not lying with Trump said one thing in t.v. Debates but did another Bob and Lin with the political manifestos should be all that people need and Marian t.v. Well I've I've said Custer copy from memory but let me not say that definitively m.p. John Butler on the pm programme on Radio 4 last night awkward when I see a lot more of those in the coming weeks but what can we learn from high politicians handle interviews and how can we use that in real life. With Stephen Jordan b.b.c. You Scotland 7 minutes after 10 o'clock when it was introduced 10 years ago the each p.v. Vaccine was seen as being a remarkable new weapon in the. Fight Against of I call cancer since then over 300000 young women in Scotland have received the treatment resulting in a 90 percent drop in the number of cases of the cancer causing virus but 16 year old Chloe brain believes it's also been responsible for ending her dreams of becoming an actress just over a year ago Chloe had her 2nd inoculation and 3 months later her health dramatically deteriorated She's now in constant pain confined to a wheelchair and spends most of her days in bed Chloe and her mum Pauline and they're campaigning to raise awareness about the potential side effects of the inoculation The Joining me this morning to talk about what they've been through so far and what we would like to see clearly Pauline welcome Hi Steve if I expect coming in to see me this morning. I want to start with you tell as a as you remember this what happened to you you know after the 1st fact seem as I think in a lot of problems in the knees and and were back and forth the whole school with that and you put it down you all skills class every she's basically just go in pain in your knees and he said I will get over it so we just took that as our word and there's a light tell me where the pain fell. It was the pain was like in. Like if you've been working night and the pain in your muscles it was like that constantly. Just underneath my knees and any sort of sleep play should own it so when I would stand the patient in many it would be unbeatable and I couldn't walk up and down stairs when I was in school had to give Nicky for the left because there's 3 fleet sisters in a school in just can so this is it's 2 inoculations you get this result to the 2nd one and to begin with everything was fine it took a couple of months for this to start well that it would've been nice it was after the 1st one. But after the 2nd one I started to museum where will it hit the sin bin Said couldn't just like stuff that wasn't for me I was hardly ever unwell and then after saying vaccine I started becoming really a meal every week I had something wrong with me. It was a sore head out of has been sec or just a deficit. And then a bit 3 months after that I was a mess since and I feel like a cut and my hat and the pain was unbearable I was actually set because the pain. And then mom came pick me up and we went up to the hospital in back and forth for the hospital for days afterwards and more these thing to you when you spoke to the doctors at that stage what did they think is going on the they didn't have a clue the were doom blood tests they were take me for x. Rays everything was coming back fame they didn't have any idea what was wrong did you mention to them that you'd had this inauguration Well that's point we hadn't had even thought that that could be the problem him. We were actually after a few trips to the hospital the had suggested good and it was full for a week of intense for you and so we went and for that and I went and done physio a few times and ended up I couldn't walk at all began and I was able to walk and cut cheese and after a few says you. I just I couldn't walk at all the pain was unbearable I couldn't put any patient at all and after that we started looking at it isn't it could be and it was suggested to us by a few different people that it could be he vaccine which I researched it more and the definite symptoms that were coming up from thousands of other ghettoes all over the what I was having the same symptoms as I'm What's this done cheaply I've never met you before today but you're saying you're with me in the studio in a wheelchair what were you like before this I was. A typical teenager was an act in dance and sing in perform in it is something I love doing everything you see me I would've been say in our dance in I was always in Scotia was definite things like that I. Went to drama school. Just I was really active. Just after the vaccine every If it's completely changed No it will even go to school because I'm in so much pain in the way that I can't sleep and then a wake up to try and get and it's cooler there are so many days that we've we've been saying we'll get you to school tomorrow so I get up early and I set out to go get ready and I'm in too much pain I couldn't even think about going inside and skill and concentrate now listen because my concentration is completely go and I can't concentrate on and if in except the pain tell me how you feel sitting here right now with me I'm an agony. From my left ankle all the way up to militia leader right up that side I mean complete agony. When I watch casualty the always the doctors always ask and you must be asked this again and again one to 10 by the passerby always ask is not when they ask you Would you and right now you tell me what is it one to 10 about the pain Well it began when I was in a house where this is how we get asked to rate my pain but one day accurate C.M.'s 7 and in the next day the pain so much worse and I can see this is a 7 year so that was only yesterday it depends because the pain gets watch worse each day so what I think is the worse it gets worse so right now I would say that I am probably a 70 which is what I usually am daily but to model mass $73.00 it could be so much worse than what I just know it could be and then it attain. Mom Pauline where you get your eyes closed when Chloe is telling the story no wonder as a mom this is really hard not to say stop playing. Chloe was. A very quiet for didn't really get on any part of it the nuclear would take leave of me she. Was one of the 1st to get our car you wanted to force t. To help cuts in school she was called to mother that because she was for hate. No she's just feel as if as a life's been ruined or 3 of acceleration. I'm really disappointed that we didn't get to feel extent of what could happen to Kuwait when I am not against vaccines to get us if have had all the vaccines I am like a mother would hear the vaccines coming to the kid prevent cervical cancer of course are going to be the sickly bit we went to the adverse effects it. Could top where we are taught there was 5 a fix it could top from us what Adam test hey take to feeling a bit tired. I am but and the. Vaccine. Leaflet there's 25 adverse effects film ha haven't I saw them to death that he's been so many ghettos with the same symptoms include Chris Kluwe don't wait. There in stop and do Cheers we can to make plans for queer we'll have to id be just to Wendy she will end up in in back to normal we pretty f t t that she will be back to normal I am and so does every mother that that child as a fait with us I have spoken to a new missile many. Mothers and children has been affected by this vaccine. Clears and host for 4 months that does extend to extensive to a sauna and nothing can back she's been diagnosed with undiagnosed chronic pain now that's not a diagnosis my eyes I am I know a lot of people see that. Prevent cervical cancer Well it doesn't prevent cervical cancer if you look straight if you do a cancer at prevents wars and these what you have to be sexually active to get it does not prevent cervical cancer Gattuso vaccine it clearly was given care was off when clear was given it was for. Deaf to say was it it goes off of the p.v. Now it's got to so 9 and it goes off and then death in sales of the p.v. But is 40 and you're 40 now when you say was that killed off. Is a vacuum there so the vacuum has to be felt like that being a vacuum surface to be felled by something so what's up been felled by we don't know and 2 years later what that's been felt by let me ask a couple of difficult questions probably And even if you know in the where risks that you've identified have affected Chloe would you have made it is different decision the peer review on the indefinitely I would never have given others like you like solution never a fan know that and you then but I know no I would never have given it an hour why are you so so convinced the vaccine is at the root of coolies problems when at the moment it remains undiagnosed as far as medics are concerned that is the only thing left in of course life was a vaccine nothing else was definitely quis life cloying am AEST has attended to home a path of course between Glasgow and she's been cheated him 1st facts in damage they don't do that we saw in the home a path of course but 2 can understand why the doctors wouldn't believe Chloe is space the one was the only thing that was definite in their life the doctors and hospital just put it a psychological problems and I suppose happening to get over there is being affected by the h.p.v. Vaccine they're saying it's all that hate she has no been dismissed with a psychologist because the deal is that there's nothing psychological on vocally I mean I thought I'm not a film about go she's an intelligent we get all that noise on way mind. That she's affected her and to family I mean it's like. I gave up my work. I was on the part time I gave up and availability to look after Corrie because the diet was helping to look after I really was Kim but it became too much for them because it was. To M.P.'s No it is has been clearly to restore that Nick would attach a bit enough for the time 15 he was upset she was upset I thought no enough's enough. Clearly can be be up maybe it tames Germany with the pain. She has to be helped and in a bait she can take in and do anything or safety like. She saw in Coachella topless film die as a prompt a cliff and it up to the In get a pin. What do you want her to do you want to see your daughter well of course you do but of course what else do you want to see because we need vaccines vaccines are important to protect the population and to facts and to facts are told but I think that we should and as parents should know the full extent of children critical and. We should know we should see the 25 artists who have acted with who doesn't support a school nurse and ask and I get that leaflet But let's talk because it is a joke that you are so to get with it by this is the lack of information on this on the risks that is your big problem and also I think this mutation award as really do think this may have to shoot a lot of people would get loose sieved in my opinion a they can't if we have to swear to sleep on a speaker covered in this David as cold as from Glasgow this morning listening to this Good morning David good morning Stephen what would you like to see the collective possibly command Kori and calling on the periphery eloquence and comment on important such as I great point across my daughter was actually got the Gardasil vaccine should be 2015 January she was actually claiming to be a doctor between a father done sure and a kid you know with 7 weeks she couldn't walk. Basically we got exactly the same we didn't know what it was how much that me and still it could it took to watch the vaccine she was happy b.r.c. . With and I can be very very short period of time to the pain and I started to not haps started them and she couldn't walk she was in hospital hospital again Canada Day at this. Point in Korea on a water test we didn't see the point we didn't know I went to the vaccine. Through 6 months I held up well in hospital. And basically. This is my sister in law then read somewhere of the adverse effects that people have taken pigout the soul of the j p v vaccine the penny just dropped then to be honest even we then done a lot of research for self and thought that this is just unbelievable to be untrue but why were we no informed us at the time when we seen the consent form which only gave 5 adverse effects why it would be no Konami to wield the type the life changing them. Disable your daughter basically the Kukri simply with my daughter has lost the human half which still. Can a scenario what about corporate you trying to get by what what what again we all know you also completed to the home of party Corsica which And a lot of space is being the only thing light and I can honestly say the things I've walked 10 and spoke to a doctor are supposed to help cure people and then for all that ice and shit all it's all not hate or it's only a coincidence now it's the kitty. Is gone and going you too can see only a only a coincidence h.p.v. Vaccine and you will see hundreds of girls whose lives have been decimated How do you do it how you go to know David when my daughter is only back at school part time to be honest I'm fortunate I come up from home so that it's been a kind of scenario where as. Critical as she may be gone for 2 periods and then she'll come back to a cross-section of of just governess of poor that we have been able to piece another and I can honestly say Steve I'm not going to name names of Oshima anybody but the response to go has been polling to be honestly am I am that my mom or my daughter's had all the vaccines so I'm not anti Paxson told my daughter got the meningitis vaccine about 4 months ago but people like to categorize year after year not all this happened over how come the bother I. There's a phrase that I didn't want but it's just you know Mon to Fri night because this is deceiving my daughter David thank you so much for your experience this morning when it begins the Madsen on this and just a 2nd Chloe I want to finish with you just on this part of it and what you hopes for the future you're getting treatment of the home the apartment only apathic hospital at the moment for you hopes for this moving forward. My hope is just that I'm able to get bear that the treatment that I'm doing just know works and that over time of oh be able to get back to there with I was a bit be able to get back to my dance and my acting and be like go back to school that's one of the biggest things that. I'm saw fish stated about is the fact that I can't get back to school just now that. I've always loved school I've always been one of the people that love school of go and I love learning new things and it's selfish to be in that I can't I can't go and. Because of some fun we didn't even realize could happen we've been told that that was a possibility and I just wish that we are. Chloe We wish you well that's Chloe's story going to all of this to Dr Kevin Pollak who runs the each p.v. Vaccine program in Scotland after this. Human Tissue for me I can believe you can do that after removing visits to Auschwitz songwriter Raymond Mead felt compelled to mark the Holocaust to have to come to the idea that is going to be with people as the project came together he struck up a special friendship I name is evoke or Soon my feet my father in assistance this up the of the in the crowd never ever did I see them again even meets Raymond on the selection platform where she narrates his pool to include in a song I can't thank you know if wellness at all to me follow the story on the railway people use day at 130 on b.b.c. Radio Scotland 102418 Friday morning just before that we were using Chloe story with her mum Paul in Chloe's says her life has been ruined after a simple vaccine went wrong and has left her and of wheelchair she had the h.p.v. Vaccine which has been seen as a remarkable new weapon in the fight against her vi called cancer here in Scotland the each p.b. Vaccine program is run by Dr Kevin Pollak who joins me now Kevin thank you for your time this morning morning thanks coming for coming and we had Chloe story there what's happened. I cannot comment on individuals. Who've been vaccinated or I can see is that we look at population based data and in Scotland we've seen 300000 girls be vaccinated at least 2 doses of the vaccine for the last 9 years and in terms of the safety element we have the ability to look at every individual who comes through that process by linking the number to their vaccine status and whether been admitted to hospital that after or not and we have not seen an increase in over 60 different conditions perhaps that could be associated with immunization in response to things like Complex Regional Pain Syndrome chronic fatigue syndrome and therefore the population level we believe this vaccine is very safe but there's clearly story is David and his daughter story just a color around them color too as there are some things happening. I certainly wouldn't discount both David including stories but what I would see as not assailing causality to a vaccine which has been given during adolescence is a very difficult thing to determine if nothing else has changed in their lives what else could it be well they're going through a process of adolescence so they are growing they have got hormones which are coming into their system than ever before and we do see the conditions that clearly described and girls are unvaccinated as well as those that are vaccinated so it's very difficult to suggest that that's the vaccine which is causing that so why on the common thread also between them was neither felt they've been given proper information about the risks potentially attached to the vaccine why don't they receive a food pack of information about what the risks might be so the information leaflet that they receive and to call before the consent to receive the vaccine contains a list of common Advair surveillance that could happen following I mean what about the more unusual wants forget the common ones what about what's maybe happened to them so. Again I don't know what their medical diagnosis as from what I've heard there wasn't one but again I wouldn't discount the studies that they go through. The most common side effects are headache pain injections Sait. Fatigue but from a systemic perspective we see very little evidence of anything at all with in Scotland that this vaccine is doing things untoward So you have no concerns that there may be something going on here that has not been researched and has not been Phone So far so in collaboration with other countries across the world we look at adverse event monitoring data and 81000000 doses have been given across the world and from a safety perspective this vaccine as far as I'm concerned is very safe I'm also a father of a daughter and I would have absolutely no hesitation in vaccinating my own daughter with us vaccine against the h.p.v. Vegas of course it's important to listen to individual stories and the experiences that people have good and bad with the. Things Is there a risk attached to this you know everyone remembers what happened with m.m.r. Is that a risk if people start to become nervous about an inoculation and potential side effects their desk is that we see a juiced up tick of the vaccine and Scotland has been very high 90 percent uptick for the last 9 years at least 2 door says and it's one of the highest octave figures in the world and because of that we are seeing a much quicker effect on reduction of those high dose human papilloma virus which can cause not only several cancer but other cancers such as Head and neck cancers and in Scotland we use the same county number to link vaccination and attendance for freshman year and we've seen a remarkable a doctrine of 90 percent high grade disease which is the precursor to several cancer so that us guys that if less people get the vaccine they are more likely to a teen several cancer in the future the 10 percent don't have it at the moment given the choose not to have it is a concern from Slate if that you must have researched this why do people choose not to have it at the moment well in terms of the 1st Dorsets about 94 percent So 6 percent don't get the vaccine but attain they get the 2nd dose you know but that's not the 10 percent 90 percent uptick of vaccine program from the school be setting it's probably. Could've imagined it could get that's not to see that we don't try and get others to get vaccinated but be be very early get asked to see if the element of us vaccine Dr Kevin Pollak who runs the h.p.v. Vaccine program in Scotland thank you very much indeed for your time this morning we've got a statement from the Scottish government as well on this thing since the introduction of the h.p.v. Program for girls in Scotland in 2008 millions of doses of the vaccine have been in the midst of the girls under 18 the evidence has been reviewed and continues to be reviewed by bodies from the government and other uki administrations take that advice issues that each p.b. Vaccine has a good safety profile and is effective we're coming up to 1030 it's Friday morning it's b.b.c. Radio Scotland and he's got your travel Thank you Stephen looking to Aberdeen but it's slow and. Anderson drive your north by in between the 98 Western Road and kings gate to get roadworks in the area gold or Edinburgh look is still on Glasgow East band at the go go round but on the bypass and delays being picked up on the a 77 north by end at the point let's round about teens and thirty's though looking largely fine that's b.b.c. Radio Scott the travel thank you very much indeed coming up a bit later in the program this morning see you a skull and claim a recent pile of offering doggy bags in restaurants to take away what you can't eat has reduced the amount of waste perhaps a 42 percent huge figure so how would you feel about taking your leftovers whom from a restaurant would you be too embarrassed or if it's good for the environment and good for a given year a fridge stocked would you do it we'll talk about that later in the program but right now it's been a big week for the royal family as Prince Harry and Prince William lead be a good experiences in fighting mental health stigma and today the Duchess of Cambridge seems to be following in their footsteps of the shrugging off the stiff upper lip that dog society speaking with new mums at a school in London Kate Middleton spoke of the feelings of loneliness and isolation that come with bringing up her children in the Airlie years and how the biggest battle is often talking to someone about it so what's the reality for mums in the early years do we need to help mums be braver to tackle issues around luminous depression mental health and what support is there for them let's talk about it this morning with Helen moved into a mum of Oscar aged 3 and Timothy 16 months morning Helen good morning to all quiet in the background you know why there is time for you to play so I send them away with their father I love it Victoria Patterson mum as well Mum of 4 year old no sorry for under 7 is cranky morning that Doria Good morning all quite with you the moment is well yes but I still hold to such a level so there just to be rightly understand Ok it might. No problem comes in 2nd and Emma can he's a psychologist and contributor on channel mom Emma morning thanks for your time thanks for having me Helen 1st on this when you fail pregnant 1st time did you just think about moving this next week and was a what a for you was it something that came into your head space no I don't think it was I had I had. To be some time to get pregnant and I think I was so focused on that that I didn't contemplate it wasn't sort of something I was really conscious of and I I really enjoyed my face by the end having a face baby and I think I had a lot fewer of the kind of issues that lots of new moms Fyfe that when my 2nd baby was born I think that's when it really kicked in for me because you know as you can probably tell my Scottish accent sounds a little astray and. I've got lots of family and and the kind of friendships that you have I think you know particularly in Scotland lots of people got well established friendship networks I like good friends with people but you know often in the in in a circle when you sort of arrived like 2 is saying and when my my 2nd baby was 3 weeks help my husband had to go back to Australia quite quickly so I had a 3 week old and 2 and a half year old and that that was really hard just a lot there were no contingencies if something happened I felt really isolated and really on my own and tell us for you what was the watchman Can you remember a moment when you just thought I am totally on my own in this oh yeah I'm in the middle it was January so is a sort of middle of a Scottish winter and I'm sitting at home with my my 2 by the 2nd baby has just developing collect at that point and you know all of the rest of my family are at home in the summer sun together and on holidays and it was just it was really hard I can you remember also impacting on the relationship with your baby. There's a sense of coming to have a resentment around this that you were in this situation I don't think either so resentment I think I've always anxious probably And I think they were you know and and and a bit scared probably especially kind of you know on your own like I was a wife a very long way to few days that I was on my own but I think I was a bit naive because I had you know defaced by the it had been reasonably smooth sailing off and I you know as a little baby what did I do you just fade him and I actually left late but kind of just. Yeah just kind of sitting in your flat kind of on your own in the dock and that he's in the Scottish winter. Here the world could feel like they're closing in a bit Victoria what was your experience. Well because I had my 1st child I was easily caught with one or 2 to be sure and I think for me. It was a 3 in 4 that I finally settled into some kind of routine. When I had my going to have to 1st with all this expectation off then what a child should be like you're looking at because people are giving you loads of advice and then you actually have to carry out and that the baby and you actually realise the reality is so different. You're trying to figure I suppose it was about finding out what my role as a mother was but also the reality of what it's like having a child and I really struggled initially with people give me lots of advice and yet you my daughter still wouldn't pick the night that was to be doing it wrong so all the advice I was getting became criticism I think or I take as criticism that I wasn't doing a good enough job I wasn't doing the right job or I have got to do something bold and I think up a lot of pressure on myself and even though I had a lot of people around for support I think I don't think I felt lonely or I really I guess what Whenever any of us are being criticised big 3 what we all do not really as well as prewar stopped doing yeah absolutely Well I think it I don't think they were criticising I think it was more they were giving advice but because their advice wasn't working for me I kept thinking I'm not doing it right yourself criticised was taken I was taking myself and I think as for me personally I think that's where I had a whole are not doing a good enough job as a mother what the mother's role what should I be doing wonderful things and they're not done wrong and I think that made it very very lonely because everyone around him to have these wonderful perfect children who did everything that was a bit difficult to talk to people. How did you how did you find the means to open up and discuss with you talk to your partner or both or not you know he was fantastic My husband is very supportive. But at the same kind I found it very difficult because his role was a father in role and he was doing the best he can do. For me there was a lot of emotion you know I had because they had 4 defied a lot of issues there. And it and it's all he's you know and I think I'm talking to him was able to he was able to support me but he was able to really quickly kind of reassurance other than what I needed to hear from someone other than him if that makes sense I was doing Ok he could be very pious and support me 100 percent but I did more than I needed confirmation that it was Ok from someone else not me and Helen for you how did you talk to people about how you were feeling where did you find the support I was very lucky and it was absolutely good luck rather than good management when my 2nd child was kind of ideas that they I mean it's this I'm doing good activities around and and there was a breastfeeding group and that was not had fainted at the 1st time but it's actually it's quite hard to actually talk to people that I happen to know if you paypal and kind of was sort of on the periphery of a group of moms and it was until my son was about as a tiny one that I was invited into a whatsapp chat group that I had said after his service 5 or 6 of us and exchanging ideas and stuff and I have found that you know a lot of people very critical of technology and we've talked before about moms being on the final lot but these kind of opened up a whole new world today and I think what the trends what the technology has been amazing for is it transcends some of these logistical problems with mothering that are about the fact that you know it might be 11 o'clock at night when you've got some spice to sit down and and chat to someone but you know you have the might we have had to sleep because he's going to where you know somebody made to sleep at some point and what was great about that great and I know they were doing this before I came on board sometimes through the not if they were persuading you know they would be chatting to each other and and you can ask it's not like Facebook which feels like a much more public forum it's a closed internet group. You know if you've got a gripe if you've got a watery if you've got a question you know what travel card should I get all you know any of those things . It's become an incredibly poor important part of my support network and also the reassurance that you're not alone in this there's other people still up at the same time the same crazy time in the night and having the same pressures Absolutely and I just I would never have expected something like that to Mike such a big difference and we're all really different we're kind of you know different jobs different kind of walks of life Big 12 year I get between the between us all but I think the other thing is a really you know a city that you know often feel like you're. On the periphery of all just that friendships haven't been obligated to date a level friendships so easily having sort of arrived you know here in my city but I have found that when you if you are fortunate enough to kind of. Become part of a network like this if there's a way in which you can very much more quickly I think it would take a level of friendship and that's the other aspect of it as being really rewarding we've got that really kind of common experience our kids are roughly the same I and you know all of a sudden there's this kind of the spice which gives you some of those things that you really need here's a text on this I became a mother in my forty's having a long for a child for many years I socialized previously mostly with childless people or people whose children had grown up immediately and I used my pregnancy my friends were fantastic but I became overwhelmed by approaches from people with children who having had nothing to say to me before now seem to find me fascinating I didn't know if I was coming or going and the comments people made Can we saw thoughtless I just don't know who looks like know anyone in your family anyway you mom's a sense did and can easily be persuaded they're feeling but many people don't seem to realize that I can see how it can lead to a lack of confidence and depression if you're listening to this and thinking this is me I understand this week to week 59295 to Boo Boo Boo Boo only pick. The food or text is a 2295 Emma Kenny psychologist and contributor on the mom channel with the Duchess of Cambridge coming up on this how helpful do you think this could be speaking up opening up on this emma I think that anybody in the public eye particularly individuals that we may feel have privileged ssion opportunities that we don't have actually vocalizing the fact that they themselves juggled with the feelings of isolation and loneliness demonstrates that actually will equal to that degree a new moment it doesn't matter how rich you are poor you well it doesn't matter where you live the reality is that these are all themes that many of us experience and of course when some day in such a position comes out and says hey I've been that I know these feelings it just gives us to missions have a conversation that's why we're having it today and that reminds those cities very often important to go around and talk to people about their experiences and each out to individuals who may be struggling with lameness because actually that's the one thing that changes that you know when we see somebody who's struggling if we reach out and meet them in a space that they can communicate with those and then we automatically alleviate those symptoms and very often what happens is that moment feels so precious into knowing how to be a mom and knowing how to deal with all the responsibilities and goes it goes with being a mom that actually asking for help seems almost impossible because you feel like it's not a mission a failure and it isn't it's not a mission that parenting at times can be a struggle and that we're all in the space together very often so communicating there is failing this absolutely For me the biggest priority that we can south conversation mice in our community if we had one story of it the about how much does the new technology right in this mom's then everything else how much does that help people who physically have got to be in a certain place is not so young he could set up a coffee or you know teach your children do things I've sometimes the d. That you can reach by the Web Yeah absolutely I mean I must've had to catch on a lot because actually does a free pass for well loads of men. Talk about things very positively know that to be very supportive if anybody's listening and you want to find a freefall and Chandimal actually will advocate all the things you need to head and link you to the moment the situation is similar than you and you'll receive a hell of a lot of support whilst also having a humorous exchange about people who are going to be similarities to you at the same time the amazing apps that is not called Moshe if you are technically over little bit like me don't worry about it I release it sound live most will connect you with moves in your area all in similar situations or with a particular desire to connect in certain areas and you can meet up with those people I think what was noted earlier on about friendship groups is simple and because very often friendship groups are established and it's really hard to get away and so if you can alternatively find a group they say actually going out that way to find at the moment because they themselves are experiencing those feelings then you will immediately feel that you are safe and more secure in friendship opportunities and on top of that I think we don't tell women that it's Ok very often to feel lonely and sad and depressed we don't tell them that actually those feelings of very very normal and loss was have them and so instead you have lots of women at home feeling that they should be all things to all people they should know exactly what I do way and when then not feeling great because it's the best time of their life and they should be enjoying their babies they immediately feel guilty and speak fast if I'm really really honest and for myself out that you know very often I'll be involved in discussions online with all the moments he was talking about the really bad experiences I've had for example with health visitors not saying Help does that but there are brilliant ones out there but actually from ones who already struggling when help us comes around and tells me the house is a mess and actually what they're dealing with is potentially some postnatal depression we really need to think about how we can embrace new movements in a way that makes them feel supported and secure and able to discuss the problems that they're facing which is asking about imo because we know all know how dreadful and dangerous puts the sort of pressure yes on b. For Mom So how important is it to keep. Top of this stuff to make sure that that's not where this sends up absolutely postnatal depression is often very much misunderstood so people just imagine that if you're depressed you know you might not want to get out of bed you might not want but with your child so a lot of moms have got the stereotype single I don't feel like that I'm absolutely in love with my child I'm getting up and doing all the work what postnatal depression if is if you feel a level of exhaustion a sense of loneliness a loss you know a feeling that things on that positive even if you coping that may signal that you need a little bad batch before but months always all their own worst enemy they do fail on the whole that I have to be the best they can possibly be times when they feel sad they feel really angry with themselves or the not fully enjoying the parenting experience the more that we can get across to moms that you normal this help out that is really effective and usually quite quick in excess you know in its ability to make you feel better and all it takes is a trip g.g. Pay and a chat and to have open dialogue speak to friends you know one of the things I always say to New Moon says just speak to anybody who will listen tell them about the way the feel tells me you know looking for advice or criticism you're just looking for a space to have that conversation and just carry on going into the start feel the alleviation of the symptoms meet of the moms I can tell you honestly as a mom I spent my entire 4 years at them being very young in some places because I needed to be with the most out there on the road and that would be my in top conversations you know look in your local area use a technology appropriately because it's so good and is so available and it means it can connect you immediately and also if you know the u.s. To go in with your mental health and well being do not feel guilty you are just going through something chemical and you can get it dealt with quite simply but ask for the healthy you need if you recognize what we're talking about this morning tea party and that to be weighed 28592952 buoy to 205 to Texas in this are 2 moms Helen and Victoria listening to that point and was making about we're always trying to be the best the. Do you both recognize that from your own experience the we just have to be a bit more accepting that most of us are just pretty average parents rather than trying striving to be the best Helen Yeah I think I think because boys had pretty low expectations of myself well done you during realistic. Yet never have too high expectations that are very disappointed Victoria Yeah I would absolutely agree with that and I think the hardest thing is when you especially for the 1st time and being a 1st time mom is that you've got this little what you had before which is usually question. For me and it was tough trying to make. You know having that working professional group but also to having leather go through time um I tried to gather and trying to figure out who I actually lab you know it was it was a constant juggle but they had the idea that if I. Made the call I actually could well and that's my only expectation. Everything else said I have to do the board and you're doing pretty well so both of you just to wrap this up if there's one piece of advice that you could give Having been through the experience both of you to someone who's just a new mom what would it be heaven I think I mean I think the advice that we've heard today is really good for others kind of taking notes myself because I really feel like I fell into this kind of check for quite by accident and I don't know if I would have thought of those other wives of connecting and I think I was probably a little bit more selective I don't think I could have just spoken to anyone but I think if you can connect somehow with moms. With kids who have who has kids of the time I just I think that really give you an a sort of an immediate in but again I think it can be tricky to find a group who are nonjudgmental and who are accepting because there is like as we said that moment thing that can become a little bit like you know my kids doing this if your so it's it's tricky I don't know if I've got a great answer for you but if you find that group then hold on to them with a remark as a Robin yes absolutely change your last picture. I would say that even when you're on your leave all the floor coverage and everything. Cheers for. Yourself that you actually really just be kind to yourself a lot the older well by everything you do is based you can and I think just be kind to yourself it's such an important and accepting that this is just now we're just going out best start with Helen Victoria and Emma Kenny on that as well thank you all very much indeed for your time it's 104918 Friday morning still to come a lot of people want to be offered a doggy bag 3 quarters of people in fact say yes you know would like to be offered one but 42 percent said they were too embarrassed to ask for one so this is what we want to change really want to make it socially acceptable if you like to ask for a doggy bag would you be too embarrassed to ask for a doggy bag in a restaurant 0 way Scotland want more people to take them is there still a stigma around asking the waiter waitress to wrap up your leftovers let me know your thoughts to a 59295 to do you always do it 15 on the text up next awkward interviews every day I passed people on the street strangers and they say they like my smile but back home since I am born my mother told me girls must not smile Nazanin has been in Glasgow for almost a year it is obvious passion Iran yes the same place yes as she waits to find out whether she can stay in the u.k. Meet some of the people in the city. To humans you from a husband. We'll all be producer we about room for Refugees drama by going to Stevenson from 130 on b.b.c. Radio Scotland right now on b.b.c. Radio Scotland you may have had Labor m.p. Dawn Butler last night on the pm programme with Eddie near struggling her way. Through an interview Labor do in office about the city they'll be more transparency in the law ensuring that a large corporations have to show their tax returns so we get to everybody gets to see their taxes being paid fairly at the moment it is clear that those people very high earners and tax corporations and businesses such as Costa coffee etc who don't pay their full taxes in this country will have to pay their taxes in this crucial you feel about Costa Coffee that's what you're saying. Well I've I've said Custer coffee from memory but let me not say that definitively awkward following the interview the m.p. Was trending on Twitter and had to apologize to Costa Coffee about how tricky our interviews for politicians were going to hear a lot of them over the course the next 10 weeks and when can you spot the media training kicking in or not kicking in a more to the point what can the rest of us learn from all of this joining me to talk about it and the McCarver message matters communications former head of comms for the Tories as well Andy good morning. I'm fine thanks and also with me on this Margaret Curran former Labor m.p. And m.s.p. Margaret good morning good morning here in full interview last night Margaret John Butler all cautious I had some empathy of frustration bill which I'm sure the listeners that I mean here's a hard but it seemed to me she hadn't thought it through at all or she was too particular nontrivial a timea she did a whole Mark casting assertions about companies is a bit difficult but I guess like so the key is the preparation for these things Margaret I think so that I mean we all go advice and the advice is always be prepared and you know what you want to see and get your message across. This it but I think if you're just a bit of a robot people get frustrated with you and don't listen to you he has to engage with the interviewer but you still have to say to clear about what your arguments are and say so that what you're going to biase you know that you know people are going to come back at you so you've got to say can question prepared and the 3rd question prepared I just got impatient but I interviewed a citizen did like me here's a question What was your worst interview. Where were Dice dot com the center views are usually saying you're not prepared for it as I've just stayed once I had to defend a child benefit change that we had just and he sat morning and I was in front of an engineer at lunchtime set up a scan a heart I didn't use a particular I was not based and I could face I think of a few good friends don't know what to say that is easy to be tripped up modre or do you that the more you do you the easier does it get I think if you're confident in your argument as much to be chipped up so you knew exactly where you're going to say you know what some of the counter arguments are and you're prepared for them and you see a little easier argument so you're not just game playing but you've actually got an argument to me I think people forget the beach up up you make a mistake as long as you've got to hear it and you know to kill an argument and it does get easier to prepare but as soon as you think that's when you make mistakes you should always be conscious of it every interview you do and always be prepared 10 weeks of political interviews ahead Margaret what you often hear from people is a frustration with politicians who feel to answer the question but also an annoyance with journalists interrupt and don't listen to the answers but the goes hand in hand doesn't because the politicians are not answering the question they have to be proofed Yeah I think most people if they see would always give his most people are on the side of the interviewer but you need to think about the mesa listeners as Gates and not just a typesafe the entity I think some politicians make that mistake is what people hear and people probably only see a couple of sentences. And you were named come to leave the interview with the message of the port in my instance but my party was doing for we were going to prevail for people or you know if it was an election for key policy was you want them to hear that too you've got to be quite dexterous I've been able to see that but also look as if you're probably gauging the arguments appear to you because it's reasonable for people to arguments but when you go over to the adventure these are again and punch and eyes and I think it gets a bit difficult but you can you can disappoint sometimes I might mistake something to someone just born to someone is to not commit Sometimes you're better just commonly not more sure that's interesting so you can leave the studio thinking that was a good interview I you know I was compensated by to call in the interviewer you can rebut what seems to you a good interview but it has not been agreed in a view in terms of the audience and get your message across it's like an absolute have something people think like about Spock you know like about spontaneity and the like you can be a saint takes you have to be yourself there's no point trying to make yourself something you're not so you'll get away with samplings but you have to. Take it on the interviewer is really a good start to challenge him and I'm a kind of a former head of comms for the 2 of these how can we spoke over the course of the next 10 weeks and he when a politician has been totally media tree and one of the things to look out for. You'll you'll notice her immediately thing has worked because you'll see Paul's issues he will not answer the question but he will not get in trouble by not answering the question do a lot of the things that we used to teach back into the when I was involved in this sort of thing would be hard to present or hard to bridge from and on so that you didn't really want to give him a question you know we want to be able to see something that's been get she moved on to the topic without returning again and again and again that interview was done by all you heard earlier on there were a couple problems that yes Margaret said she wasn't prepared but I think the lesson to be a wheels as well is that people like like I used to be press officers and media people were what I used the job I used to do the. All have people in their group support actions he did you know a large piece on the radio or television because they're not actually good enough to do it there are lots of different skills required to be a politician a minister and and one of them is being able to speak to the media and then you've got caps but it's only one of them some of them are actually not very good and so some people will be kept off the radio completely the problem with Labor at the moment is they don't really have tied kernel to that Will the press office to see later on Butler clearly she's not going on the radio because she can't get an interview so that was part of the problem I think yesterday I think the other really important thing to look for as well as you will see the best interviews during this election are given by people who don't have a party line on offer to want to die so I'm sure Mark will probably agree that she would be able to get much better interviews if she wasn't having to hear to align with something she might not actually agree with so no that Mark is off the leash I may say our model example Wesnoth of a say something like Alan Mulally I think he's been very vocal recently and in a lot of interviews recently and they're very very good interviews because he's just simply saying what he thinks is not having to in the data we've had to think what is a part of what we see what the line was the impact of me saying this in the Syria this area this area so he doesn't have to bridge away from answers or cut our way through anything he just said what he thinks that nicely makes for much better and just picking up Margaret's point about how it's received by the audience there and the isn't there a risk that people are getting wise to this now so when a politician answers a question with so I think the real issue here is door to door door what they want is the unknown answer the question people are going to turn off and think There we go another politician door Ging the question oh I think they do and there are very very few politicians who are they take it that. Tony Blair was green there's no there's not a he was fantastic at it and a lot he says that helps a little bit when you're the boss because you can kind of say what you want but I really want anybody getting in trouble he was in my. Generation I can't think of anybody who's been a better interviewee than 20 clearly was just it was just extremely good just. But I think that you know there are there are lots of examples of people's about as to the terms of your question the audience does tunnel this is where we get into what you mentioned earlier with Margaret the 2 way street that we've got here Tara recent polls in terms of daily what each of those giving direct answers to questions is there what is it what you guys in the media are going to do this. And that is clear is that there's a chilly thing and there are examples of bad media practice or examples of the media kicking in and so that we know doesn't actually mean what the other interpret it to mean and you know I think then we get into the vicious cycle to be honest the politicians don't really want to answer the questions the media ask them. Then they can look for more and more and more because they're not really getting answers to the question Ok mother would always say Thank You My mother just wanted to ask you Have you ever used what you've The media training that ability to take on a question the way you want to answer the in your passion of life away from politics to get back to take advantage of as I do think the kind of the pantry she gave from the people is are very effective. And it makes you think not just about the immediate question again but if they can afford question and just it's a discipline of thought that's very simple kind of position and also to thank if I see this so it's interesting the opens up all sorts of other way big all sorts of other questions so going for clues dancers and all that you know they get the money they gave for going to thank you for on Asli and openly answering the questions this morning Margaret Curran former Labor m.p. And m.s.p. Andy McCarver former head of combs for the tour he's still to come do you ask for a doggie bag in restaurants why not if you don't see a way Scott and what more people to do that is a stigma still around what do you think wait to eat 59295 w. Or text 822952 calls your story says mornings with Stephen Jordan on b.b.c. Abuse going on 7 minutes after 11 o'clock the general election campaign may be underway but yesterday saw some rear all party consensus in Westminster on a single issue politicians united to condemn current events in the Russian republic of Chechnya where gay men have been persecuted beaten and tortured just because of their sexuality that also have been reports of killings as well alongside condemnation in parliament there's also a demo. Strachan this week in Scotland to highlight the issue but Chechen is not the only place where gay people face persecution because of their sexuality so how can the still happen and that's the need to talk about 9 1st up on this is from you as middle of who is the B.B.C.'s news editor with the Russian service from your bank for your time this morning thank you for joining me what's going on in Chechnya. So basically this is a story uncovered by the Russian newspaper Norway goes here to report it seized they have dozens of cases at least 60 cases of. Gay Chechens being gay residents of Chechnya being rounded up and arrested detained and even tortured in their certain camps as they put it by the security services and vigilantes and as a result of this the Chechen authorities became a big scandal engine authorities you know were going to court against alligator insisting claiming that there are no gays in Chechnya at all even human rights some Bussmann of the office area she said that she doesn't know any gays and if there are any This is a shame both Jewish and starlets and the Chechen family would like probably to deal with it by themselves and what happens within the family is the basis of the family so that's how they put it. Is this a new issue. It is a very old issue generally in the Caucasus attitudes to face like Chechnya about you know about her English in the south in Caucasus Georgia are being you know surveyed John attitudes to his gay men and gave women are very very conservative this is still a taboo this is still a stigma attached to it you know and they're very aware that people actually come out and if they do they are met with v.m. And sometimes with violence clear clear physical violence people get beaten up people get hounded people get sometimes detained by police and sometimes just beaten up to death so this is a really really big issue and it's blue and the fact that the major national newspaper in Russia decided to speak up for the rights of these people is actually quite important condemnation in the British parliament as well yesterday from there were differences that might lead to make war which is I don't expect will likely to make any any difference at all Chechnya. One person his name is runs on cut deals and he's ruling Chechnya with the rich given to him by no one else but Mr Putin himself runs on capital spot. Because Iraq used to be a. Separatist fight against Russian government and turned the tables and became a friend of the Kremlin and the crime gave him carte blanche to do anything he wants as long as just within the Russian control so he was really really with our own hands and then passed on the stuff to his son who is young enough actually just . Under 40 and he rules like a life like legacy speaks to me just from buoyant lifestyle several They say several wives by Muslim tradition he insists that they. This is a conservative society with very devious line includes and casting may remain such a country although the loss of security problems is about 20000 people. Men very well trained under his command and that's why probably when we speak which meets him met him actually recently a couple days ago in the Kremlin they never actually touched upon geishas at all they discussed security in the Caucasus security in Chechnya and Mr Secretary of said that everything is under control nothing is happening I keep everything under my control but the background to this for me is the fact that in Russia itself President Putin does not have a good track record when it comes to gay rights indeed I mean he is well I mean he doesn't show it openly but and also they have to admit lots of gay people in show business in Russia sometimes openly gay people but that is tolerated it is not tolerated when it comes to actually everyday rights when it comes to property rights or all something to be written to make sure that the. The rights of algebra to community to freedom of speech to to come out to actually to actually you know show that they are wonderful g.b. The community these rights not to have a Visa Visa suppressed they cannot do that and that if you openly to go in down the street hand in hand to man that will be shouted upon that'll be you will be probably hopefully been stopped and beaten up you know that can happen as all the time from you is middle of b.b.c. News or to the Russian service frankly times hard to believe that still happens in this the any age isn't it that's what George most and so many felt trying to Scotland for gay rights you're going to as a demonstration about this in Glasgow this 3 George morning. Good morning where did you involvement stem from. El Mundo mn stemmed from the hype I'm just going to try and make a difference because all this for all the little dove of the consul here in the assault on good ice and it's not just places like change now but even need to weaken within the u.k. I mean just over northern islands and the u.p.a. Still standing against a game outage and ashes and seem to be about those that being a swing towards right wing populism and 7000 and I surely feel as well the we shouldn't be having to be the big concentration camps for game end in 2017 and what on a unit team country and especially a country that's going to host the World Cup next year. Russia is going to have the best mass of sporting showpiece at whale buses going on within their country. Should be done to try and help these people and not just felt it was something I had to get involved so the demonstration the starting point a debate and condemnation in Parliament yesterday as well what more can be done what are you going to do well what we have trying to do is Guy grass roots and organizational can I stayed in Scotland and there's a lot of people in Scotland and interested in trying to help these people but we're going to try and call for those stopping off at demonstrations at the consulate in Edinburgh what's going to call cross cultural boycott said Russia and Clinton had demanded that the bishops' to the will call to stop us and would also going to try and support organizations like the rainbow tailcoat instead challenged the Spanish based organizations by Nowak it is people I'm going to also ask the Scottish Parliament look at the governance people refugee status and trying to get them. And maybe resale to install them but the condition if it seems like so much through grace has been made in recent years George but your concern is that via is at the very best faltering Ostend. His fall in because Lake a sea off still is a those are real Shas towards right wing populism and the just need to look at big moment from the McCain doing so well in France I mean that's not it's not just in places Les chants never bus Assad must ask you though so you go on and on this should get aids I mean trees are made doesn't exactly have the best rank up when it comes to Gates even here in the u.k. He. Feels us people the whole case even people like myself I mean I'm just some village among what some normal big Hogan children say to kids postulate just the way a son of people get together and do grassroots organizing can change us and try and help Stay with us on this one to bring in Jordan daily Israel has no g.b.t. Campaign or Jordan thanks for your time this morning no problem looking just beyond Chechnya beyond Russia as well within the world is still on ceased to be key. To be honest. And the majority a all of Coleman where Which countries and their arse and situational shows for m.t.v. People and if you look at the chin such as Uganda for example it was only a few months ago that the result of a very popular a but there were scared across social media which sure try on women and Uganda be important ally you've received a white space on a national contamination and there was nothing mystical and that is where my concern comes on what what what the situation in Chechnya just now you have all basically the records to be seen coming out of court in the completely Acorn today the push for human rights across the cold ball and not necessarily good enough to just continually want to be called instantly and see in wards and knowing all 5 Sion a what we have to remember as Russia as permanent member of the United Nation. And after the United Nations truly to believe in the advancement of human rights a protector of the advancement of their g.d.p. a Great national way and the house to be a priority for them across the across the globe the many many. Opponents situations facing the age of the community and of course we also have such actions across the Middle East where a young teenage gay man of the thousands where young gay men are b.m.p. In and tortured. What was the in the numbers from an international level the situation in change now just not as nor an isolated incident but as one that has has effectively a captured the attention all of which the media and HA's lead to comb that combination really soul but we should be aware that you're very the are a lot of a national crisis facing the m.t.v. Community and well I think as a parent and as the when we look at the Coleman wells those of former parish cooties and any academic any historian will tell you that Trier to the involvement in these regions in the film the British Empire we don't know have a Antti homosexual Iraq he stole them it was on the stage so effectively war has stolen it legal has happened the British Empire has exported our own and the contemplatively institutional homophobia into these regions and thought as it's at it's we do have some form of model to cation to assess. And to provide help and support to those I grassroots level headed blues filmable quote Can I say tional able to include as to whom do you agree with George's put point and his concern it's not slipping by the simply been a lack of progress recently in in moves to try and make life easier for gay people . Yes Norman and I think it's a thrill to skulk in the book just yesterday the Scottish Government alliance they were going to form a walking group or summer come into trying to. The teaching of a would be the key issues into schools so for me education was a huge bag a pasta and an and they expect all know the hospital will vary across the United Kingdom and of course just a couple of months ago in the United Kingdom the age acacia money so just in getting on those to some ordered you to start to be able to beat the education and skills so we are making progress protectively from a political level from an I think Trishna level to a as a whole what we are seeing a should be as the to do. All or the I'm increasing a.f.p. To unsolved more naked to socialize which is being given a platform we be can see I would agree with George the HA's been about the over the last couple of years and labeling populism and conservatism and ideas on a now orthodoxy in traditionalism do seem to be common bike and we should be seen able to predict that we've seen that with some of the arches that come from banks that we've seen not with the election of a kid from a lace mill forgave just stuck up with some calculation began to speak of the people and some of the Aged between being born in America and so right now I think they yes we are love and I'm fundamentally about the swine whereby we are we are. At the top of the class effectively ruled by a week on the state to remain even the main Christian footage of the tiebreak or if we do being complacent. Take 2 baby farm and very strong approaches and moment to talk and I'm not sure if that changes that scene should enable to the people on the course that will have the fewest they all of the full rights and then we'd better much rush game c.c. And a flood Jordan thank you time Jordan Daley g.b.t. Campaigner George drops in the school friends school and for gay rights the mother 21 Friday morning b.b.c. Radio Scotland. So we'll carry on showing you going to a restaurant you've had a lovely meal but this plenty left over would you ask for a doggy bags either way Scotland has launched the good to good scheme to tackle plate waste from restaurants and to change the culture around leftovers making it normal to take food home after a meal could we do that we make a big difference to you. Ask for your leftovers to take home give us a call to eat 59295 w. Each to 295 on the text Let's talk about the snow with Uva Haglund who's waist campaigns manager 0 waste Scotland uber thanks for your time this morning oh good morning thanks for your time Sue you've been running a pilot scheme for this the good to go scheme has it been working. Yes a couple years ago with a pilot and then after that we've worked with around a 100 restaurants who have taken this on board who have had overwhelming feedback so that's why we decided to roll this out there basically it's about as you said I'm making it normal to take food home you know some research at 3 quarters of people said they would like to be off a doggy bag but 42 percent said actually you know I'm doubly too embarrassed and this is what we want to change we know that if every restaurant in Scotland would do this sort of doggy bag it would save the equivalent of $800000.00 full meals from going in the bin each year that's a vast amount what do you think wise behind this reticence that people have got in the States it's not a problem why are we reticent here when it comes to asking for a doggy bag. I don't really know I mean perhaps a be interesting to hear what your listeners might think about that but perhaps it is because until not so long ago maybe eating out for most people is a very special occasion and culture is changing in that way I could be a number of reasons I'm not sure we've got the answer to that but as I say we do know that this is something that people who delight see more of and making it more a kind of socially acceptable I guess Ok let's speak to color Joyce next on this on the takes to be Willie in which he says I'd never ask for a doggy bag never I'd always make sure I could enjoy the portion of food that was in front of me another when you read doggy bags as don't know if you'd see if the issue with this rice is that you should be cooled very quickly it's going to be kept and you need to become bad than a 2nd but here's Joyce here she's an end to keeping morning Joyce Good morning Steve and doggy bags in restaurants your fine on you. So you wouldn't hesitate at all there's no embarrassment as far as Joyce is concerned you know now I told Ok so tell us what happened you go to a restaurant you write with your partner comes to the end of them you're likely to there's always something left as the. Protected myself but my my partner Julie Yes Right Ok so you need. To take a homey what exactly I mean you know there's there's usually a good portion. Left between us and we at least and. You know you've used to us not restaurant to check with because you know you're going and Joyce a meal you've paid or you're going to be paying good money for the line no to say well you know that's my No actually I don't want you to know then what's the reaction when young woman use again yeah what's the reaction when you ask for it though usually always good usually always good has been like that for some time and I've done this for quite a long time actually fish ears. And and some years ago I remember it being a campaign at the time it was launched and I thought you know this is sport people need people need to be feeling the lock. By asking for their not their leftover to such you know because generally it's not just last leftovers and you know not just a small portion on the plea it's usually you know it can be quite substantial to get a. You know this is what people need to need to be feeling comfortable about asking to take and the rest of their meal whom joy so I can again for you to go this weekend Joyce. May possibly possibly you don't fit your own bag with yet do you usually go to. No no no no the restaurants are very good about having the sceptically cartons or you know the. Bags aligned with foil and so on and most of them have been already furnished with all these you know and cheekily things so it's fantastic I've never had a problem the bugs and the jelly to make you feel embarrassed and in my experience any old eat well done you Joyce thank you very much indeed for that but that's just a good point there that somebody made on the text in terms of food safety would you stand then obviously takes responsibility if you take food to him and then there's a food safety issue right and who's responsible for bot. Yes So of course I said you know major concern that we take very seriously and not why the good to go pax have guidelines from which sound of Scotland on each box given out and tell a man should rise fast so actually included in the advice is don't receive bias and all the advice comes from 2 founders Garland and to ensure that the reason of your safety risk it if you just take it home and really at the end of the day though it is up to the restaurant to decide whether they want to take part in this is the same way that we've had overwhelmingly positive response from restaurants on customers but ultimately it's up to the restaurant to decide whether it's for them and luckily so far everyone seems to be able to move here the restaurants do this in just a 2nd in terms of the feedback that you get you but as well as people taking it home and reducing waste which of course is good do you think it's also making restaurants look at portion size and just how much they're giving customers. Yes absolutely that's what happened when we did the pilot research and start out of the average food waste reduction that we saw across the 16 restaurants that took part that was 42 percent reduction in food waste but about 25 percent of that was to do with the good to go boxes the doggy bags and the rest was actually restaurant going to hang on a 2nd Juno peep we could reduce our portions so we could be asking customers do you on solid or you know chips and this kind of thing and we do have some separately such as Well that shows that actually custom loose would like that they like to be also like menus to be a bit more flexible so lots of good things have come out of this I think for a lot of the restaurant to take part as well you'll be pleased not many people seem to be embarrassed about this so far here's catalyzing in August and he's cold as morning tattling good morning what do you think about this idea it well my dad when we were young I'm in my mid Dusty's know you but when we were young my dad always asked that all the bikes and it was a the orders or indeed their dog. So there was a dog involved in this somewhere on the Why yes yes if we didn't want to then the dog always cost it but we always are but I still get by can I still do you know I'm back in the day when you died doing that what response did you get then then. He just said to you didn't hear I really paid for I'm having a yes because we're a bit less we still we're probably back then but he was getting his money's worth for sure absolutely and I said wrong Lester I'm When you do it what response do you generally get in restaurants counseling if they play a polite a Mustang some things I'm a saint be some things look out me is that some of them. As in any way I'm When you do it does it go to the dog or does it go good to you in the family well it's just I just love to lose my dog. You gave it if I do want to see that yes that's nice Ok too. Thanks Caroline but what do you think about this would you be too shy to be embarrassed to ask for a doggie bag to take it home or are you doing your bit for the planet you're quite happy to Dia 285-9295 we will speak to Ryan James from the Glasgow Restaurant Association about how this is working for them after we take a quick break for travel coming up to 1130 Good morning Stephen is today is here Aberdeen delays on the a 9 c. Anderson drive north by the between Great Western Road and kings gate this is through the border exactly Edinburgh delays on Queen Street all that's the 1000 city building through the roadway it's between Klemesrud north and quality street traffic spank you common brick toll for the delays in Edinburgh on the Glasgow despond go round about just the bypass again because of the road works and the m 77 Glasgow there's a broken down h.g.v. On the slip road on to the really is no need of the m 8 blocking the inside lanes just as you're heading a city point on the m e to heading toward Kingston Bridge So this is causing city phone delays on the I'm 77 and of queues on a 75 West spine at the 87 or one junction and that's b.b.c. Radio Scotland travel thanks to reason 1130 Friday morning on b.b.c. Radio Scotland Stephen Jordan with you until 12 noon join bt takes over then we'll hear from him shortly what's coming up on the program but right now we're discussing doggy bags either way Scotland has launched the good to go schemes tackle plate waste for restaurants to change the culture around leftovers and to make it normal to take food home from restaurants to cut food waste would you be happy to do that on the barest week to eat 592952 blue it's 822152 text as Ryan James runs the Glasgow Restaurant Association 2 Fat Ladies in the city as well Ryan good morning Lois evil and learning all the bank you for your time this morning how is this working for you. Heavily involved in the pilot study from the Restaurant Association and the number of members actually involved in it. And every single person came back with some really positive feedback and it also came in at the same time Israel also will not even. Government sting the wish to be strangulation is in Scotland as well so there's a big contrived awards to do we just what was actually happening with the tweets of the strikers and this was just one of the signs of what do you do with the food which is actually you know as good to go that's the name of the program because the food that's on the plate is always the still very good to be eaten so it's a real shame to put it into a fit to be spike which is then going to be either composed it last time going to see through on a really good gesture and you know basically the client high speed or final offer to the client to see if they want it before it gets disposal it's a good news story for everyone isn't that right so really it hurt you in your restaurant what difference it made in the amount of food waste you talk a to the end of the story but to be honest the Whole Foods be simulations of a massive difference because what we've done is we've moved away from having just general waste to having separations to all of us to do things and to clear bags rather than black box and so because of chefs that we are forced into like your bag and we probably cart to waste in a kitchen by a pro I would see quarters that we do think will give us a couple well against these Ryan when you actually rather than waiting for the customer has been happening yet to come forward and see you think you might get to a point yet where you might see would you like to see the Suman that when the weaker which is comes to clear plates does not tie their training program to you know it's possible it sounds like something I played the 1st question is was everything all key and was it to your taste or did you not enjoy it then you do without a set amount or if it was fighting to come each company to the stand up act for you so you can take it home you know so basically we do an intervention if you like before the climate even mask to take away the stigma you know we're really happy for you to take this food will miss you so well you know please it's perfectly edible if you're a teacher don't teach a dog or your cat by see for yourself it's just as good you know why we feel embarrassed about these things Ryan and she that's about I don't. We get it to mean a score to me to be tight. So we should be kind of like excuse me I want those 2 chips right but actually people are generally about us I think it's because. You know we don't want to be seen as being tight because we are fighting against our own reputations maybe I don't know. It could be that or it could just be funny or not a restaurant environment as other people said close to you maybe you feel the ability not yet at all to leave because you're taking food home so maybe if you're trying to impress the deets the way to do it is no you might think there's a time in a place you know you're going to get to the guys with your you after having a nice meal or your girlfriend or a club or a bar but you know there are certain words like family occasions you know and here you know. If you're making a cake for somebody from the party there's no way in God you have to hold he was going to finish that cake so you think nothing of taking our home with you but every day last a little better let's take the mortification of a technical let's take home a little it takes off a lot more than just the cake take the take home from your lunchtime menu today Ryan was going to make a particularly good doggy bag for winning if you don't like to see possibly the dream and also the whole of it and some pigeon. Or the sterling stick as well. Create a lot to eat I mean I think so the education and please nobody be embarrassed to ask because I think everyone does and doesn't their own way as well and it's a pleasure to get people to talk to Ryan thank you very much the same as Ryan James chair of the Glasgow Restaurant Association Here's Marie you know things that he's called as in this morning Very Good morning Steve when you wouldn't be embarrassed to ask would you yes I would you really embarrassed I would not brain does no and by the end has done in more than one occasion and you've been working at the tell you have you I mean with you more and I shall today squeamish about doing it but just hack choice not mine I mean thing we give each. The restaurants to all choice of portion sizes and then there might not be so much least because some cases you just get too much particularly people and some places do offer a portion sizes others doing and I think that might be a way forward to save on the least you could always just have to start as that's what my wife does these days and tells me to do it as well but that's only because doctors seem more appealing sometimes Elaine cautious recently about portion sizes and thank you Mary thank you very much indeed for your time this morning we talk about this morning 2nd join bt to join with us to ask for a seat and we have I would always finish the meal but I was going to have you I don't know if you know you're like I tell you but you know what you think this. You people leave stuff in the pipes I've seen you in the canteen you've actually got now acknowledging your mail this a big plate and even taking a special big plate for the salad bar is nothing left after your scan read. What you got. This new drug driving limit in Scotland We'll talk about that and I don't know about you but you see homeless people and I was cycling in this morning I went past the homeless chap and I thought no I'll go back an interview he had a big fire underneath a bridge in Glasgow and he told me how he got there what it is sleeps one night if it's sunny I'll sleep on a bench in a park of his darkies he likes the fire scare the rats always have interviewed him it's unbelievable that my mother guessed Debbie McGee today she's on talking about you know geez given Paul Daniels and this private parking ticket thing every 7 seconds in the u.k. . 9 a minute 12000 a day private parking tickets what can you do if you go I know you've covered it in my daughter's just got one we will talk about what you could do Ok John Beatty just over to I mean John have a good short thank you very much indeed 113718 Friday morning on b.b.c. Radio Scott and we're discussing here we Scotland's campaign to get as asking for doggy bags to take food home from restaurants to cut food waste Next up is an on head from Helen Brown this morning and. I Are you one of those people who's too embarrassed to ask or do you just jump out of a note to toll. Local Indigenous to what it's all for the elderly might not agree with his enormous potions and indifference to nobody but just well idle saying the same to take you home so what happens when you take it home and well like that it's we can I just have to cope with and I don't think that's a calling either I speak to loads of people who do that or all students. And I'm excited as yours and. Then to question is Will how good you have and have survived. You can you could do chips with restaurant curry sauce over the top of the window that's the truth but you're the one the thing called curry that's just the last let's try it Ok I'll try it this weekend on in Helensburgh thank you very much when I was Jan in Glasgow this morning morning Jan Hi Hi Stephen can you hear me I don't write my own. With a doggy bag as well not yet so I think secretly ask for them do you tell me about that and so I just think if they so much with educating but my husband takes me to the feelings for me and I usually ask if I can take it home for the talk but what entrancingly the experience he had recently was. Misled waiting in class to we had just been tested and sentenced just amazing and at the end of the night and we were kids in a pack with a selection of leftovers to take home and we didn't ask for that was just something that was done for the case and I thought it was such a lovely idea. Hooman my kids to share in the fit the next day and it was really successful for a great idea so you don't think we should have any stigma but we should not be nervous we should just ask and get on with it. To shoot. Of course grades are you eating out this weekend is the dog going to get. This weekend. You know it was a group of friends and literally teachers so I will be asking for their left. A little thanks for your time this morning back to the Haglund from 0 way Scott and listening to our callers in the text this morning good news I think people in Scotland are really open to this idea How are you fantastic you know it's just great to hear about people asking and actually vote your last caller that makes me especially happy because that kind of prolactin offering of food to take only really shows of their value and you know they put all that work into that food it was a lovely evening you know enjoy the next day and that's really what we're trying to do is bring that culture or culture change so that it's all about making the most of the food and joining it and not throwing in the been saving it from the bin so is that the next step for you perhaps and this is saying to restaurants rather than be waiting for the customer to come and ask you the as Ryan James does in his restaurant there you should be offering it you should be saying when you clear the plates that you enjoy that whatever but would you like to take. Absolutely yes integrity to project it to get to go skiing so that's what we did during the pilot which showed that actually customers really like to start reassured that in fact it's a sort of double the assurance of what customers like it to be offered so that they don't have to ask and I will help those people who do feel that barest but also that there are some signs around and they can be subtle you know if you don't want to sort of put it all over your restaurant but say hey you know if you don't finish eating meal we can pack it up for you so that that had really good feedback customers want to be shown by signs as well as by the way to the waiters you know this is Ok we encourage you to do this well people seem to love it you're right David in Glasgow absolutely no qualms asking for a doggy bag I learned this after a number of holidays in the USA They do all the time to stigma Christine I don't understand why people are ashamed to ask for food they paid for it could be the words doggy bag call it takeaway then nobody has a problem with it clear and you know I've got a holiday home in Florida and travel from Scotland often when eating at most places the way to which is we've always ask if you want a box to take home a median Shetland I once asked for a doggy bag in a posh hotel and was given a bag with bits of scrap Romita my dog I've always asked for my leftovers I he would wait maybe is the doggy bag name you've only need think of a better name for it. Yeah I mean obviously that's how he chose to call it good to go and I cannot positive connotations you know as Ryan said this is going to sue the last 10 years to happen those people still talk about doggy bags but you know we would be very happy to to call it something else because I think you're right there is something in that that we think it's somehow not good to do which of course it is what's a smart idea you have a haggling with campaign managers either way Scott thanks for your time this morning the fallout Ryan James chair of the Glasgow Restaurant Association still time for your views on this is easy to 295 we're not going to follow it but we are going to have an argument after this. Mess you for America can do that after removing visits to fit songwriter Raymond Mead felt compelled to mark the Holocaust to come to. Me with people as the project came together he struck up a special friendship I mean receive a call. From my. Sister disappeared in the crowd never ever. Even meets Raymond on the selection platform. To include in a song a kind of thing you know of wellness you are to follow the story on the railway people use day at 130 on b.b.c. Radio Scotland 114318 Friday morning on b.b.c. Radio Scotland the weekend just around the corner I think we all know that feeling don't we a slight disagreement at home suddenly takes on a life of its own what started as a petty argument about unloading the washing machine maybe or cutting the grass suddenly turns into a full blown psychological dissection of all your partner's many faults but what if that could be avoided researchers in the States have developed a phone up which claims it could help defuse a situation before it turns into a food blown right by analyzing the language and the psychological traits of arguments so how does it work and could this spell the. End of the good old fashioned Barney here to talk to me about it and we want full lie about it technology expert Tom She's right Morning Tom. And with me in the studio psychotherapist Angela Trina morning on Good Morning Tom 1st on this could this be the answer to changing relationships forever I think is. Certainly an interesting idea that we augment our own self control with an Apple sort of digital Jimminy Cricket coalition sitting on our shoulder How does it work so there are sensors in smartphones an increase in the watches and even the clothes that we wear by aggregating all of this stage and working out whether your heart rate elevated or your perspiring a bit more or your valise elevated or even if you say oh looking at your face you can start to work out what some of the motion is and their moods coming up and they so this group of researchers looked at all that data matched it against some real arguments and found they could predict when our goal is going to happen with about 75 percent accuracy which is pretty good so the idea is this would monitor you and when the fuse that starting to happen it would give you an alarm which would say walk away take a deep breath back off back off count to 10 do some yoga or something like that before all get out of. Psychotherapist Angela train it's a sound like a good idea. For me it's been moving away and to me it's extended to be here I think I think we will be willing to get clear to bay as is the idea of what is conflict and is conflict healthy and unhealthy Now obviously that can be healthy conflict and any good democracy that is an opposition you know it's really important that we get clear when is something I'm passionate spitted to be and I think giving the decision to technology me not necessarily be aired based distro arguments are a good thing in relationships as well the good of possession you know how having. A death in severe pain. One can often lead to healthier comfort all those that you there's a real challenge in relationships that someone Salzer you know that we can end up in a dictatorship where somebody is always biking or for the sake of Norths actually putting their own point of view and I believe is to we you know it's I really am so perhaps yes I can see the application in situations where maybe there's anger management problems where somebody goes from 0 to $60.00 and no time at all and really doesn't register when the flip the switch and if health and blood pressure the effects of too much adrenaline is an issue but that that is also a concern and if we are constantly backing away before we get to the issue at hand we mess looking at the underlying issues and that we avoid dealing with perhaps old under solve problems where we're only looking at the symptoms you know I'm getting angry I need to back off rather than perhaps get into the meat of what is really the issue at hand and home because it is all that is that's often how these things go of course Angela is ends up being about not getting the milk in the fridge or starch for the milk in the fridge or the best get 10 not being closed or whatever but then it comes back to you always do this. Which gets into the territory you're talking about yeah and often as a therapist my job is to what with couples and see what is your noise into each other you know it's not be the milk in the fetch It's never about. It's never about the laundry or we those are the superficial issues and if we don't actually get to the meat in the gist of what she's really going on here what are the patterns you know we know how it starts but what is it we really need to get to so so that 1st question is often what is it you're not saying to each other and if if we all. Only deal with the superficial some sometimes and constantly back off and go for a walk in the town day and that is a rest and it's the best you know I can see the application of people who perhaps really do have deep seated anger management issues who really need to know before it starts because if such a still think the need to get to what is really going on what are those couples and we all know them Tom your come across them as well those couples that we never argue we never have is that because I was think that's because someone's always backing their own year yet I think if people see we never argue that is possibly someone always sailing it or to the angels and to me on the if they're good luck with. A 2 to 95 thoughts you on the takes time this is all this technology is taking as an interesting places with apps what else is out there that can help as a write in psychology and behavior I think stress is a really interesting ones all the things that they're measuring the time predicting arguments are also quite good in the case of stress and or the employer actually starting to equip their start with that of the rest they said it's a measure of the symptoms to know whether the stuff he was loyal may actually even monitoring the sleep some of their workers try make sure that they're not being overworked and they get a good night's sleep so there's also the different aspects are many will as well as our physical health and we can start to apply technology to the cutting edge of all this is just emerging at the moment the how accurate are they especially things like the sleep more niche apps do they really work they are generation they are embryonic they get if you used to go to get more accurate but if we start to get more and more the senses and more things so there was a story this week about printable senses so cheap that you could put them on a pint of milk and just dispose of them and the wheat you see these things in your clothes or shoes you page a pillow and there's going to be so much. Before long the machine will be able to make a pretty accurate guess where we are really the question really is what we want to do with all that information Angela train a psychotherapist is this good news for us having this help in terms of the territory that you work in or are the pitfalls do you think I think that are huge pitfalls I think that are always pluses and saw Grace diggity I think there's a view rescuer give the pair of air. Judgment calls to technology and we know that technology can be their union with it technology can be wrong and I think that is a real risk that we lose a another one not to buy it by can there's a been a huge boost in the in the work that's going on especially with young people in mindfulness and developing at a Bell is to chew 9 to thoughts feelings emotions states and being more aware I think if we don't lie on technology to do it we mean lose those scales that we've invested so much time and energy intercepting and teaching to people and you know people need to know how you to chin and to new as as it was it Kenny Rogers that sang it no no no when to walk away to know when to hold them know when to fold them know when to walk away and know when to run and we need to remember and know how to be properly it's the best that affects us fatefully response and if what we know and I watch it on up to Helen has to do if it's know what can our with not go if we lose the scale of being able to cheat until sales and new and I say Inter done you know on my feet on the floor slowing down in my body doing my a lessening and I carrying Dane is it time for me to do move myself from this horsetail situation I don't know in my watch bleeping to tell me same to go I don't think that's healthy proof or the proving Tom if there was a veil of all right no to help you. Void an argument would use it would you download it I thought he would and I'm afraid I am one of those terrible couples who argue. That it is b.s. Because with no i don't really want an absolutely generation not telling me what to do if only we had more time Angela to get Tom's partner on the phone and to dissect their relationship to get to the bottom of those but we would use Angela would use that app if we had it right here right now would be n.t. I never see never am and I think I have no date for some people there may be benefits but I have misplaced it to be well we've managed to have an argument without having an argument so that's good thank you very much and if you take Angela trainer this morning and Tom cheese right well London Marathon this weekend will talk about running 26 miles after this. Calls are stories. With Stephen Jordan b.b.c. News. 1152 on Friday morning yes this weekend this Sunday a London Marathon 40000 people taking to the streets of the capital you like me might be planning to watch the telly with the feet up the bacon roll but if lycra isn't your thing maybe it would inspire you to just think about at least pulling on the running trainers for the 1st time or getting involved in a smaller is a 5 k. Part run that's a big thing these days here are some advice on how you can get started Stephan Capello running coach and shop manager at Killie c.e.o. Stephan facts for your time this morning. So for those of us who will be watching this weekend a cup of coffee maybe the Sunday papers on their lap thinking you know maybe there's something in that whole region get started it's the old classic left like body will follow stay the night is the best like. It is one of those you only just get out there she's only involved is ever too late to start. No attune. I think you see every year you'll want to sleep people on. All of us will be someone on that it looks older than. You think in a minute how can if I can do. Stuff the big thing. The biggest barrier legally the cells in terms of a training plan how did you begin for those 1st few weeks for the last thing you want to do is put yourself off the experience by having an injury or something so how do do you get from the su for to being a runner the best thing on the new clue would be to just take it and build up gradually you've got the classic thing that you should do is find a suitable training plan but also get what I think will be the best way that you can make sure that you don't put yourself off. Injury a bad experience. You want to tell be the best thing today so equipment important in terms of your shoes and wearing the right gear What about technology is not there to help these days with the staff and. The last page there's a lot out there and everyone is. A drooling to get idea. Of some funny funny lights on the seal of the doing a job for you and I think some people will gravitate but not everyone needs to think if you're the sort. I want to use in the game. You can still do that to get out there but it can be very helpful that a lot of the stuff out of the. My wife Sharon and she's going to have which knocks the days that she doesn't great running. The press release thing and you know before. You running club you know you join the funny club all but every. For a night. On the old school peer pressure. Someone knocking at your door you're neither saying right I'll meet tomorrow such and such a time and if he doesn't show up if you want to light. That stuff. On the last series you're good to run with someone else and your experience doesn't help to have company. Having somebody like minded FICA bound doesn't motivate because he ultimately you find out that you'll find things together everyone can be doing a different right to differ. But you might find. They said no only today how to trying to help. By phoning the. Boss on she. Often find a lot we hold long club shop for example and some of the new runners will turn up with perhaps not the best. Player on a night people believe just let them run tend to find the weeks months well by picking up. The other running along. Your help and allow to get the best people I can improve and stick with it how important is it to have something to aim for staff places hobbies Park runs and I often happen on Saturday mornings and I 5 t. Isn't there which is the way out of a manageable thing for most people once you've had the training is by good thing is a good way to get started don't think it's time. To General Date. Trying and even more as part of your progression should be safe achievable goals is the best way and I know. If you make it too difficult to stop them in the lead in the 4th out elephant. Pieces if you break not. And. A little bit 5 k. 10 k. Build up to half an hour. Before you know it you're out money 17 miles. Looking like some of the big event Sunday the big one in London can anyone run a marathon. Anyone can do I think that the main thing is it's just about finding some money advice we had last year one of our members along club. Site and he never ran a right before that she had a faintly. I think it can. On money if not it's a good one but not. Enough off on a you have never seen a more determined lady. Come out week in week out all in the build up a little late for just a last year she went out and she did it. And she's absolutely fantastic example of somebody to a never ending for the how to go to a minefield and just read the temptation when how and achieve it. I know a lot of people do it for charities and good reason for the passion the insight staff what do people get running America. If one idea is read by 6 I think just leave and run not going to do something you thought it just makes you feel good anything could be 2008 Bill really could have it it's just good general lifestyle food diet nutrition exercise end of things which is one of the. I love you should sleep in the tree and it's the one thing that allowed me to have a street not lie about having done out of a can of to keep up now and again if you want because you know you got out and you're trying and you'll get off and I think it just it built to have it definitely .
