Martin B.B.C. By gentlefolk weather. Treasure Quest extra time on B.B.C. Radio for action. Hello good afternoon and welcome to a slightly different episode of treasure Quest extra time today I used to get me the quest master but I'm going to taking you through the history of our children in need charity stage show treasure Quest live if you haven't been before you're thinking about whether or not you want to come along on Saturday to some tickets to the afternoon show so I thought I'd put it up a to get a little taste of the show and what it's been about down the years and to some I have taken part in some of the games we play that's coming up in a few minutes time the story of treasure Quest live in a documentary looking at all shy offstage show which is coming to an end next as maybe the 10th and final time we put it on and if you want to know what it's all about keep listening. But we'll start off a little bit of music for. We've come along with. New Clothes. We bought some. Of the. Long. Haul. 0. Lol. LOL LOL. LOL LOL. With. The song. Little gold. Gold. A little legalities. Illo. Let's follow the link. It's. Like that and never forget on treasure Quest extra time B.B.C. Writing or foot it is 10 minutes past 12 midday and on Saturday at $330.73 we will be hosting off final ever performances of our treasure Quest live charity stage show in aid of children in need the 10th year in a row that we've done this there are still some tickets available for the afternoon show you go to Playhouse dot co dot U.K. I will give the box office a call from tomorrow on not sure I want 603-5985 Know on it if you would like to join us for our final live on stage celebration of treasure quest and general messing about with the team but what is treasure Quest live well here's the story. Is absolutely fantastic at the way we don't know the rehearsing that's pay to be obvious but the love the reason genuine it in the fall and it's genuine I just I don't love any of that and I haven't really had the never said that the long time excellent let me write a lot of money so that's really where the real because with enough to ride really. Good. I'm not sure if you don't cheat that we have to draw blood I can write that I think the current feel that yeah. OK I did feel. How are you ready to my guest Yeah I think I'm going to go with an educated guess. I think these might be the scary part is that. The irony. OK because Sophie little AND DAVID WHITELEY the current stars of treasure Quest taking part in a game of guess the guest trash Quest lives 9th outing in Nov 27th teen gets the guest has always been one of the most popular elements of the show and the only game to have appeared every time treasure Quest live has been put on the very 1st time the treasure Quest team took to the stage was back in 2009 the radio show had already been running for nearly 18 months and become one of the most popular programs in the county when in September that year a very special announcement was made on the B.B.C. Radio Norfolk breakfast show which at the time was presented by Chris Gorham 21 minutes past 8 now it is the most listened to radio programme in Norfolk and now its success means that its presenters are taking to the stage treasure quest that addictive Sunday morning listen he's stepping into the world of theatre darling and all in the name of children in need of Becky's here in the studio but you have something going on I'm smart for us is this right where we do but I actually don't know anything about the church requests to each show for children in need the producer Martin Western knows all the details but we are going to be on stage how exciting. Tell you we're going to get that you know B.B.C. Radio offer to trade it was because she had to David take you know which of my prey's there is and I thought that Becky Betts Well she does like to watch where and when she should be looking for the treasure that's the thing but they're OK in their own homespun way in fact they're so lovely that they're taking treasure quest to the stage for B.B.C. Children In Need on the 21st and a member of the knowledge players will be able to see what the team get up to behind the scenes here some of their most hilarious moments and of course lots of surprises in store as well tickets to the producer of the 1st 2 trash quest log. State shows in 292010 was Martin Weston at the time he was B.B.C. Radio Norfolk's assistant editor and it had been his idea to bring treasure quest to the station's airwaves in the 1st place the B.B.C. Asks the local radio stations in the regions to do something that fits in with a bigger theme and in 2009 it wanted us to put on a show for Pudsey which is a local radio station is quite a difficult thing to do such a thing with David Clayton about it and he said let's do something on stage around treasure quest I think we started thinking we would actually be do a stage version with clothes and in the end I think we decided that it would be a little bit too difficult so we made it about David and Becky presenting and we had various guests and we had people coming and going and some games and some surprises the very 1st treasure Quest live took place at the Norwich Playhouse on Saturday the 21st of November 2009 as happened every year since there was both an evening show and a matinee So it was around 3 30 pm when the team 1st took to the stage. Ladies and gentlemen welcome to treasure quest all in aid of Children in Need 2009 these welcome your comments to the new Mallee I'm. Getting everybody. Welcome to the playhouse this it will in fact perhaps Welcome back to the playhouse that it feels very much like home for B.B.C. Radio Norfolk on this very stage we've done should the team think we also did the 1st children in need variety show here some years ago we used to be here as well for the festival and broadcast here for 2 weeks of the Norfolk and noise festival so it feels very much like the place where we should be for this very special after these days our main treasure quest you are so few little AND DAVID WHITELEY but at the time the presenters were David Clayton and Becky Betts the stage show idea was . Was basically because the children in need the central London organization of children need the B.B.C. But were saying why don't you all do a a show for Pudsey put on a show for pubs and we would kind of being hatching this idea that we could do something on stage weren't sure what it was but we could do something and the playhouse offered to help us do this so we just thought well what could we do and we knew that we'd have a half of the show would be question and answer Michelangelo that we knew the 1st half was what are the what are the things about treasure quest that come up map folding OK we'll do a map folding thing we'll we'll play the bloopers because everyone loves the bloopers and we kind of knew that without too much work we had you know a stage show and as soon as everybody started talking about it we discovered we had other ideas to put in it so it was I think it was success what it was successful we sell 2 houses in a matinee believing and thoroughly enjoyed and raced 1000 the parents of children need so I think it was just can we take it to the stage yes we can have when I was younger to performing arts degree and I was in am dram and I again would be really really nervous before I went on to the point that I'd be sick you know literally on in the wings of the stage before I went on stage and I thought oh I hope I don't get a blank I hope I don't freeze and I hope I don't stammer and shake like I sometimes do even now when I do presentations and what was really ironic was I kept thinking all gosh what if I freeze What if I freeze right up to the minute I walked on stage and for some reason it felt fine and I came across my family was saying well actually came across as really confident perhaps a little bit overconfident I thought my gosh but you don't know what was going on inside my head now his feelings are more relieved that I didn't act a complete Wally and become a shy Nevis ready gentlemen I think we can see him now would you please welcome back he bets. Martin Weston the guy we sold all the tickets and. We did 2 performances a matinee and an evening show and it became something incredible because not only was this program the thing that everybody wanted to listen to but they also wanted to come and see it on stage and it wasn't quite the same show because it was all about based around David and Becky and some surprise guests and in many ways David is a complete natural on the stage as he is on the radio so we just we just knew that he would be able to do it but we presented and produced it quite tightly so that the thing flowed really nicely and had some surprise guests right there is. There's a question asked of Becky do you want to reveal it just with this with you so they start off yeah with his hat off. I. Live was only ever intended to be a one off in 2009 but it proved to be so successful and I'd raced so much money for Children In Need that it was quickly decided it couldn't simply be left there not Sumanda go you know galaxy not too far away B.B.C. Radio Murell folks treasure Quest live it was me to come on back Radio one clever and never get to one 1st master and one strike you made me. Put them on stage. And we're doing it all again Quest live 2010 was once again produced by Martin Weston the final time he'd be involved in the stage show before he left B.B.C. Radio Norfolk the following year he is in a behind the scenes piece made for the breakfast show at one of the 2010 performances we have to keep reality checking ourselves that we make radio for a living for the for the residents and the people who live in Norfolk and suddenly right the directing a stage show is an extraordinary experience for all of us I'm quite glad I'm not on stage but feel like for the 600 people are coming to see it we're probably going to offer them a good laugh and a good behind the scenes look at one of our most successful programs. If you. Want to. One of the new things about the show in 2010 was it was a piece of merchandise available a calendar so France could queue up afterwards and get them defaced by members of the team scribbling on them since then we've got a book a double CD set another calendar various postcards and more recently printed souvenir programs like a proper stage shark all of these and your condemnations in the show's name of hope to raise getting on for $70000.00 pounds for children in need over the decade the treasure Quest has been running Jessica Middleton works for children in need in the east of England each of us regional offices look after patch so I look after the East of England the radio regions each station does something completely different I have to say treasure Quest States as one of the things I really like the I think it's one of the irony occasions where one of my colleagues has come up to me and said I'll be dressing up as a card to share for children in maids and I think that's quite a new show and what a commitment relay to treasure Quest children need and I'm really privileged to get to come along and meet with people who are buying merchandise who are buying tickets to come along and you get this real sense of warmth towards the program but also you know to supporting an event which is going to benefit children young people in their area my colleagues are always really impressed when I chat to them about it I'll often say to all that's that's how they do treasure Quest live isn't it and they lost loads of questions in there they're really interested in it because it is you know I thing you know I read you know fake his for now and fool that it definitely intentionally they you know they'll always ask are they doing the live show to share and you know I think that's that's a brilliant thing that you know they hearing about so many different things across the country and when they hear about radio you know for it by now that that's about tragic last. Night was. Really the face was fine securing off the show to meet. Team and have item signed has become a treasure Quest live tradition indeed the whole thing has become something of an annual gathering for some avid followers of the program Mark with his one of them I've got some great friends now from the Facebook. And we always meet up before treasure question live down at the playhouse have a drink have a chat with each other it's a bit of a kind of a fan's meeting really and it's terrific we always have this same little corner. Of the playhouse some you know we get all the chairs together and we'll talk about the show and and different things and where we've been where you've been and the clues and it's particularly difficult clues and some of the some of the funny things that some of the presenters DAVID WHITELEY Well have years said yeah it's been really really good we don't we sort of made up for about a good hour before and have a really good Chan a really good time fans come from far and wide to see the team on stage and help support children in need as Jeanette Gillings did in 2016 and this is a good one so now that's tellings I think it's all good things. Where. There are no one's going to pay THAT ARE THEY WERE are you from Australia there are you are you Australia. You listen to treasure quest in Australia Oh my well. We're coming down the microphone so we can hear you with your wonderful accent Oh it's gorgeous It's lovely so I was it was the way all the British people went to Australia they then take us there stands and then started talking like there is that right there the sound was a big part we don't get the sun here is you know. What united get you for your family whereabouts you from in Australia Queensland was the latest general point I had to get. To the bridge but. I bought 2 tickets because I thought off a contract my hobby along with my my best friend Sandy she'll come along now Sandy's never really listened to treasure quest but since I took her to the show with me and she absolutely loved it she now listens to the show I don't know she gets listen every Sunday but her and her husband definitely listen in now and enjoy it because she absolutely loved the show. She loved the show she loved the whole set up etc and I converted her but it was really enjoyable seeing everybody on stage seeing putting faces to the nines although obviously I know faces on Facebook and the B.B.C. Website I can recognise you all but it was just lovely to see the whole show put together it was entertainment from beginning to end and you could see a lot of work being put into it so I really appreciate you guys doing that my husband and I coming out of this year and poll said to me that's my husband's name he said Oh I suppose you'll be arranging the holidays to fit in with treasure Quest lot of us do well of course of course. It just so happens that we enjoy coming I bring the winter because we have summer it's so hot here and we usually kind of the timing is so I'll be there with someone who hasn't had to my quite such a long journey to be part of the show is DAVID WHITELEY before he was a regular member of the team he compared treasure Quest live on its 3rd and 4th outings in 20112012 now before we go any further of course you're here to see the wonderful fabulous stage show treasure Quest live. Fabulous show I'll be writing off every Sunday morning you know I hate it you know I hate it. It's takes away your entire morning there's no I think I'm not going to listen to it I'm not to listen to it you start listening and it's a dick to before you know where you are it's midday it's a great listener it is infectious it is contagious and that's just Becky 2011 is also the year that I took over as the producer of treasure Quest live I've been involved in the 1st couple as I was the producer of the radio show but all I really did was hang around behind the scenes for the 3rd year Martin western had left and it was decided that was dry run the radio show I should take over putting the stage show together despite the fact I'd never produced a stage show in my life. I gladly went the point well done. Right and next one is Lauren quest but then. The quest master Lauren you have 60 seconds on the wonderful baby subject everybody. Questions the question master what. The high on how she got going is have an affair challenge you know what I don't know what I was I know I'm officiating. They want to get paid Sharkey maybe the boss normal able like it to be in charge now what do you think was it was that a fair challenge. No hesitation she went on I've heard well I've heard one yes and the rest said no so we'll go with the majority. A mere 58 seconds. On our favorite subject one and all the quest must. He Nobody was all block blocked. I. Live was popular enough to easily survive the changes of trash Quest personnel down the is the 1st of which came in 2013 when Becky Betts left the program replacing her on an alternating basis we're Kirsteen thorn and Judy ranger who became the costars of the stage show that year can I just say my technique is all belong to party O'REILLY OK you're not wearing any one pair. Well I think once more for the folks. I see because Christine you're not going to think of this how many has been accused you have on. She has a new back then I just look at this. One. OK no such enough information for me. How many pairs of magic make it to me think Julie needs to wear that. Correctly Here's what Julian Kirsteen thought of the whole thing when I spoke to them for a behind the scenes piece at
