Hello good afternoon and welcome to a slightly different episode of treasure Quest extra time today I used to get me the quest master but I'm going to taking you through the history of our children in need charity stage show treasure Quest live if you haven't been before you're thinking about whether or not you want to come along on Saturday to some tickets to the afternoon show so I thought I'd put it up a to get a little taste of the show and what it's been about down the years and to some I have taken part in some of the games we play that's coming up in a few minutes time the story of treasure Quest live in a documentary looking at all shy offstage show which is coming to an end next as maybe the 10th and final time we put it on and if you want to know what it's all about keep listening. Radio Norfolk breakfast show which at the time was presented by Chris Gorham 21 minutes past 8 now it is the most listened to radio programme in Norfolk and now its success means that its presenters are taking to the stage treasure quest that addictive Sunday morning listen he's stepping into the world of theatre darling and all in the name of children in need of Becky's here in the studio but you have something going on I'm smart for us is this right where we do but I actually don't know anything about the church requests to each show for children in need the producer Martin Western knows all the details but we are going to be on stage how exciting. Welcome to the playhouse this it will in fact perhaps Welcome back to the playhouse that it feels very much like home for B.B.C. Radio Norfolk on this very stage we've done should the team think we also did the 1st children in need variety show here some years ago we used to be here as well for the festival and broadcast here for 2 weeks of the Norfolk and noise festival so it feels very much like the place where we should be for this very special after these days our main treasure quest you are so few little AND DAVID WHITELEY but at the time the presenters were David Clayton and Becky Betts the stage show idea was . Was basically because the children in need the central London organization of children need the B.B.C. But were saying why don't you all do a a show for Pudsey put on a show for pubs and we would kind of being hatching this idea that we could do something on stage weren't sure what it was but we could do something and the playhouse offered to help us do this so we just thought well what could we do and we knew that we'd have a half of the show would be question and answer Michelangelo that we knew the 1st half was what are the what are the things about treasure quest that come up map folding OK we'll do a map folding thing we'll we'll play the bloopers because everyone loves the bloopers and we kind of knew that without too much work we had you know a stage show and as soon as everybody started talking about it we discovered we had other ideas to put in it so it was I think it was success what it was successful we sell 2 houses in a matinee believing and thoroughly enjoyed and raced 1000 the parents of children need so I think it was just can we take it to the stage yes we can have when I was younger to performing arts degree and I was in am dram and I again would be really really nervous before I went on to the point that I'd be sick you know literally on in the wings of the stage before I went on stage and I thought oh I hope I don't get a blank I hope I don't freeze and I hope I don't stammer and shake like I sometimes do even now when I do presentations and what was really ironic was I kept thinking all gosh what if I freeze What if I freeze right up to the minute I walked on stage and for some reason it felt fine and I came across my family was saying well actually came across as really confident perhaps a little bit overconfident I thought my gosh but you don't know what was going on inside my head now his feelings are more relieved that I didn't act a complete Wally and become a shy Nevis ready gentlemen I think we can see him now would you please welcome back he bets. Martin Weston the guy we sold all the tickets and. We did 2 performances a matinee and an evening show and it became something incredible because not only was this program the thing that everybody wanted to listen to but they also wanted to come and see it on stage and it wasn't quite the same show because it was all about based around David and Becky and some surprise guests and in many ways David is a complete natural on the stage as he is on the radio so we just we just knew that he would be able to do it but we presented and produced it quite tightly so that the thing flowed really nicely and had some surprise guests right there is. There's a question asked of Becky do you want to reveal it just with this with you so they start off yeah with his hat off. I. Live was only ever intended to be a one off in 2009 but it proved to be so successful and I'd raced so much money for Children In Need that it was quickly decided it couldn't simply be left there not Sumanda go you know galaxy not too far away B.B.C. Radio Murell folks treasure Quest live it was me to come on back Radio one clever and never get to one 1st master and one strike you made me. Put them on stage. And we're doing it all again Quest live 2010 was once again produced by Martin Weston the final time he'd be involved in the stage show before he left B.B.C. Radio Norfolk the following year he is in a behind the scenes piece made for the breakfast show at one of the 2010 performances we have to keep reality checking ourselves that we make radio for a living for the for the residents and the people who live in Norfolk and suddenly right the directing a stage show is an extraordinary experience for all of us I'm quite glad I'm not on stage but feel like for the 600 people are coming to see it we're probably going to offer them a good laugh and a good behind the scenes look at one of our most successful programs. One of the new things about the show in 2010 was it was a piece of merchandise available a calendar so France could queue up afterwards and get them defaced by members of the team scribbling on them since then we've got a book a double CD set another calendar various postcards and more recently printed souvenir programs like a proper stage shark all of these and your condemnations in the show's name of hope to raise getting on for $70000.00 pounds for children in need over the decade the treasure Quest has been running Jessica Middleton works for children in need in the east of England each of us regional offices look after patch so I look after the East of England the radio regions each station does something completely different I have to say treasure Quest States as one of the things I really like the I think it's one of the irony occasions where one of my colleagues has come up to me and said I'll be dressing up as a card to share for children in maids and I think that's quite a new show and what a commitment relay to treasure Quest children need and I'm really privileged to get to come along and meet with people who are buying merchandise who are buying tickets to come along and you get this real sense of warmth towards the program but also you know to supporting an event which is going to benefit children young people in their area my colleagues are always really impressed when I chat to them about it I'll often say to all that's that's how they do treasure Quest live isn't it and they lost loads of questions in there they're really interested in it because it is you know I thing you know I read you know fake his for now and fool that it definitely intentionally they you know they'll always ask are they doing the live show to share and you know I think that's that's a brilliant thing that you know they hearing about so many different things across the country and when they hear about radio you know for it by now that that's about tragic last. Of the playhouse some you know we get all the chairs together and we'll talk about the show and and different things and where we've been where you've been and the clues and it's particularly difficult clues and some of the some of the funny things that some of the presenters DAVID WHITELEY Well have years said yeah it's been really really good we don't we sort of made up for about a good hour before and have a really good Chan a really good time fans come from far and wide to see the team on stage and help support children in need as Jeanette Gillings did in 2016 and this is a good one so now that's tellings I think it's all good things. She loved the show she loved the whole set up etc and I converted her but it was really enjoyable seeing everybody on stage seeing putting faces to the nines although obviously I know faces on Facebook and the B.B.C. Website I can recognise you all but it was just lovely to see the whole show put together it was entertainment from beginning to end and you could see a lot of work being put into it so I really appreciate you guys doing that my husband and I coming out of this year and poll said to me that's my husband's name he said Oh I suppose you'll be arranging the holidays to fit in with treasure Quest lot of us do well of course of course.
