And also with me Pete folks from Darby County fine t.v. Pete Good evening to your evening Chris leaving the room you know that's the pleasantries out of the way because we have to start sadly tonight with events off the field and no doubt it's been a hugely damaging few days for Darby County a team bonding session that led to a small group of players continuing to drink into the night ignoring transport laid on by the club and finding themselves in a situation with severe consequences Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett arrested and subsequently charged with drink driving they're due to appear in court on the 15th of October and club captain Richard Keogh a passenger in the crushed car suffering a serious knee injury that will keep him out for the season believed to be a damaged a c. L. Now legal proceedings are active of course which limits what can and can't be said but Roy in putting everything that's happened into a wider context there's no day doubt that this is been a pretty disastrous few days for the club. Yet. It's really not some it's really something they could have done without It's something any club any person any people or any group of people can do without this. I feel awful for Philip Kaku obviously is trying to in install a bit of team bonding in them is trying to get. A little bit of spirit going after a very credible point against against leads going into a series of winnable games now and he's trying to get a little bit of those going. Richard Keogh going down for the season is a sickness and the circumstances that he's going down in makes it even worse. He's cut. Don't know what on earth was happening. For those that series of decisions to be made. That led him to get that injury. And allegedly a wrist injury which I believe was not found it to be true at the time that was now a geisha as well. Yeah the the 2 the 2 lads that. Been arrested or are in big trouble and. There's not really much more of that at this juncture that legally we can say. Philip needs Philip needs or feel needs or when I will say that the the fans of the club of come up massively backed Philip. And I die I really appreciate our front front because it would be so easy to for support to turn the other way and say I chose a lack of control this that and the other but that they really are they really are back to me I think that's great it's hard not to feel sorry for Philip Cochran in all of this Pete from a fan's perspective you've been a fan of the club for many many years how are the fan base feeling tonight after the events of this week. I think I think there's a lot of distress I think they're feeling very let down I don't think a lot of people are entirely surprised about this even though it's very shocking I mean I was really shocked by that I must say I've seen some on professionalism in court regime and in the 1st 9 games this season and I thought I wonder where this is going on where this is going to I'm not entirely shocked by this kind of thing when. You know in a way maybe mercifully because nobody's done right it might be a bust in disguise the this sort of this magnitude actually wakes something else. Then I think I think fans are really feeling let down I think so most a number throw me a season ticket away if they play again and all of this sort of thing you know it's been really really shocking I think they feel embarrassed now got faced opponents on the terraces and hear a lot of flack about this and a lot of them genuinely feeling like in the field can be very hard to support you know those players involved so even so like Iran says I think there's a lot of support for the caucus still and clearly you know in adversity that's the sign of the good from the new fans being good when you get beyond the globe so sure you can stand the club statement went in pretty strongly on on Richard Keogh and he has paid a huge price for what's happened yeah. And I think obviously Richard been the been the captain as well I think they felt so of extra let down by by him as you would you know this is a captain of any of any club that's the person that sets the tone the attitude you know the intensity everything that is why the person is given the armband or has the crest stitched onto a shirt whatever it may be in any sport because that's a person that you are meant to be able to depend on I can understand why Darby if understandably furious at Richard which came through pretty clear in the in the statement. Yeah I think Kaku in his pre-game presser. Handled it with an incredible amount of dignity and incredible amount of class. And obviously spoke about the defenders part of the rehabilitation will be going into the community as part of part of the trustee up to to do that work. On the field right I'm sure that there will be other punishments. Of course that will be $100.00 internally and. We'll just have to trust that they are just numbers I'm sure there will be but yeah. It's not I think he handled it well and I can see why the club went into very hard and Richard you've mentioned Philip calculates hear from him now here and this is him describing his brief conversation with Richard Keogh actually me though of course because he is you realize this. What's going on for you personally and of course as a group responsible players as a subject and in the team and it is not part of the team anymore and then of course that does something that would put the player you talked earlier about you know you left it to senior players to take responsibility does he feel that feeling that he he should have been the person responsible for making sure nothing like this happen I think you feel service was a lawyer. Like I said or more senior players it always has to step up and take responsibility and now it's it's a get a huge effect on him. Personally. So there's a lot to deal with. For him we'll talk about Philip in a moment but Richard Keogh is it feasible Pete that he's played his last game for Darby County he's 33 he's got a serious knee injury he's been very fortunate in his career that he hasn't had too many serious injuries but it's a con of injury at that stage of your career that can be difficult to come back from I think so yeah I mean I was saying last night you know just come see him get into fitness levels a championship with such an injury within a year in you know if maybe a full year is going to take. You know sadly I think it's really really sad that it's all and to Richard but you know a personal thing you know to recover from the situation as well is a very big ask and maybe you know I think you just maybe retire and just say thank you very much and say that. You know I think he's been a fantastic player for the moved in been. Counted. Probably the best season ever. But I think would have believed in you know he may well have played his last game suddenly whether you know and you know if you're in a car accident like that and you don't want is don't maybe it's time to get out of football recesses life and you know get on to a new path in life because when these things happen it's a wake up call for everybody involved. I think I think you will still be at the club next year. Whether he will be playing you know 40 plus championship games into the question but I think you'll still be at the club. The. Modern medicine now is can work miracles on was not miracles medicine when you get there you get you know that they can they can bring you you know you back to full health quicker than never nowadays and knee injuries of this kind are getting healed in you know quicker and quicker and quicker you know bigger American sports when you see these injuries all the time which is sad but you also see the recovery speeds now are you know turning from a year to 10 months to 8 months and it is brilliant. At 33 years old probably be slower but I imagine and I don't think Rich will want to go out this way you know you know he's faced adversity is it is a competitor. I think I think you want to stick around with the club and I think also that depend on and how now that relationship repairs itself will I think see if he remain in. The club but I still say I still see him there. I don't I don't think you retire or don't think you want to go out this way. I think the only way retired is of medically someone says you cannot play football but I still see him being up at the club neck next year but I don't see him maybe playing 40 some games I don't think you will with the injuries he sustained Philip cockade n.p. In a strange way given what's happened has this given him more flexibility with the fans. I'm not sure really what you mean maybe but I mean all the fans that maybe we're getting a little bit angst before all of this now all firmly on his side because he had no control over pre-season he had no control of the injuries and he had very little control over all of this while Yeah yeah I mean. I personally I would about this whole team building thing on a Tuesday knowing and they're been allowed to have any alcohol and I want to choose you know I mean there's a lot of questions being asked about this one earth was going on you don't bail teams by playing golf then going 10 pin bowling that's good you don't see the real rationale behind that no I couldn't I couldn't at all on the choose you know maybe on a Sunday night after a hard game but you know preparing for a very very important game that would go on the game I couldn't see why they would be having any help I'll call on the Tuesday Never mind drive enough towards So I do think there are questions about Philip Cockers management at the moment and I'm not I'm not against really cocky I would really do hope it works I don't think we need another change of manager in any way shape or form but I think questions have got to be asked of the money team and this incident and this whole team building event because there's been unprofessionalism for me so far early on in the season we've lost George Evans and catch onion in training to injuries Ok fair enough what we've had more to Michael mission 2 penalties chatting away to the opposition goalkeeper before taking it laughing and joking for a very important game against West Brom then he missed a penalty for this horrendous. Team pick and performance not enforced our closest rivals. Going against all the advice. Of the fans where we had to go and sit there and watch it without Scott Malone abuse in the crowd at Pride Paul and getting told off for in the interim and apologize for it with Tom Owens getting 5 bookings in 7 games and getting. And no discipline there. You know and the awful pretty performance in turnout at Brentford which was one of the worst performances for years and years and years that anyone can ever remember so for me the sum on fashion of in some way Philip is not galvanized in the club and I wonder if there's a void being created in some way that just isn't being you know some of the sloppiness has fallen into what's the atmosphere going to be like to more than Ryan and given what Pete has said and then as you know they'll be plenty that disagree with what you've said because I think Philip cock you can control the majority of what you said if I'm being brutally honest but right on the atmosphere I got the impression that the atmosphere tomorrow will be one of let's get behind the 11 players on the field because this team needs our support Yeah the impressions that I'm getting sort of gauge in you know social media feed and chatting to the fans in the area is that. The team needs them more than ever right now. The manager needs the more than ever right now so they don't really have you know what you do you do have a choice you can choose to be down in the dumps and Bruin and play or you can desperately try and roll the team on to get those 3 points against Birmingham and expecting a very good atmosphere. Tomorrow Yami I'm expecting it to be pretty raucous. I would just say to what you said about so the drinking but feeling cocky should have to baby his players you know these are these are adults. As Darby had said in the in the statement players should know when enough is enough. You know that's I think. That build in the trust there are different ways to build it and I think you know players could find people can find it patronizing if you're overbearing and you know make sure you're only off you know this don't do that don't you know I think you trust them to just be adults you know and I think that's that's probably why you feel so down because you know you do trust them and they completely broke that. Completely broke that trust. Yeah it's but you know going back to the Birmingham game I think the fans got right right beyond Philip you need to chant as well you need to chant to get girls sort of few the few suggestions of a few chance yeah yeah those are lots of the feeling. The cheering of we were I did see that yeah I think I look good I go in there let's see Ron I agree with everything you say I doubt you know he didn't need in the fans and the fans need him to get beyond him and can tell him quote Of course we will everybody will get beyond cocky it's more I think everybody believes him or he's trying to do and you know knowledgeable stall and the lack of preseason having to go to America and you know it's all been very very tough isn't it in you know the end of that I was last 2 games we've only you know played against some very hard teams we don't know we've got if we do get some wins over the next 3 or 4 games these 5 drawers are going to going to look good and we're going to be up there again and maybe that will be the platform to move forward it's going to be a completely different game we don't know Darby county without Richie Q What's he going to be like instance captain you know it is a fresh top and huge lead is very nicely played on to our next subject let's draw a line under what has happened I think we've spent a good 20 minutes talking about it although this is related because with Richie Kira's injury it means a change of kept in and it's Tom Huddlestone that has got the nod Ryan thoughts well as you know Chris I like Tom Huddlestone as a player. Yeah I think he's going to be he's obvious going to be a mainstay in the team I think he started every league game so far. He's basically the sort of glue of what cocky wants to do at least in the middle of the park is a senior player he's Frew from the academy as well checks all those boxes. So I think and it's quite it's quite a young team as well quite a young inexperienced team in number of positions so I think I think Tom is probably the best the best choice especially presumably if he's your vice captain as well you know he's the natural. That after wants to take over the armband So yeah I. Don't see any problems with the with the appointment of a pick your thoughts in a moment but 1st here's the manager Philip Kaku on why he's chosen huddles than as his new skipper I think Thomas a fridge who insist. There's a lot of football knowledge diligence in him and. He can express it himself a little bit more and. By being a captain he has to. Step up and do it more because what he normally says she's again. I like it and I want him to share with more inside the team and that's one of the reasons also apart from his experience and career. To make him like making our captain pate it seems the consensus out there was it was between Tom Hiddleston or Curtis Davies Now Curtis hasn't played much this season so was Huddleston always going to be the likely choice from Philip I think so yeah I mean given no special. It's got to go to kind of experienced player I think I think needs games you know we need to know games before going to see the very best of him again I mean he's looked quite rushed in the 2 games he's played fair enough you know he's not played proper for every It's going to take him a while to get and if you know like the form that he had on the route if he can ever get back to that so I think is a natural choice I mean I was tempted to go for b. Like myself or just give in give it him you know if. He can be playing in in and around the area throw it all in 3 min let him grow into it from where he has been but yeah you know let's see what Tom can do I did see him pumping his fist. And you know I thought yeah that's a bit more of what we want to see from the captains I mean I've always had doubts about Richard's captaincy I've got say in terms of the you know really getting together and seeing the shanty on the pitch in that way but. Talking to people mentioned in there do you think this will change the way Tom Huddlestone acts on the pitch he's one of those plays that his body language reflects often the way he plays he's very language we know that his style of play is very relaxed and at times you look and you wonder where the more vocal voices come from and you wouldn't necessarily put Tom in that category recently you have been the prime example you have seen him. Throw his hands in the air and start verbal e people up so he'll need that side of his game yeah I mean there are there are different types of leaders in there you know that you've got those that are sort of a big shot for our type personnel is. And then there are others who are quiet lead by example or not and I think lead by example some people can misconstrue to mean that their silence and you know words that you know he doesn't have to be that way you just it just means when you speak people listen and I think that can also because if you're someone that shouts a lot it can be very easy to chew not ours as well so it comes if you know if you are generally more quiet then you speak everyone will listen in the messages is absorbed. Yeah I don't think Tom will change I think I don't think Philip would want him to change he selected him as he's kept him because he likes the player in person and character that he is already to change that would be counterproductive in in my view and then if you also change up there you know it might repeat the wrong way thinking he's got the armband then he's he's changed change a little bit and it might not vibe with some people so I don't think he looked like he changed like like Pete said you start a
