Corbin becoming prime minister but he was still reelected though with a way for thin majority of 209 and then after all Lottie left the Labor Party Yeah that's right last year details emerged in the press of a sexual harassment complaint against John Woodcock that was being investigated by the party and he was then suspended from labor he denies this allegation and he said that he had been cooperating with the investigation in confidence but he claimed that it been leaked to the press for political reasons because of course of his outspoken criticism party sources at the time said that there was no political involvement in the process he then left the party and he since said that he hopes that the complaint can be investigated and resolved by Parliament's new independent complaints body and tell us more about his decision to stand down as m.p. Because I think he's sort of letter that went kind of around online today talked about it being a sub decision possibly for reasons Yeah that's right I mean he did actually tell b.b.c. Radio commercials to couple months ago that he would be standing as an independent candidate in borrow at the next election but today he tweeted a letter to his constituents announcing that's no longer the case because he got some very happy news as you say he's having a baby with his partner the journalist Isabel and now he has 2 daughters already from his previous marriage they live in Edinburgh so he's just trying to juggle seen them with bringing up a new baby and travelling between Barrow and London as an m.p. Is just going to be too much so he's putting family 1st and he says that he and Isabel hope to base themselves in borrow and he called it the greatest honor of his life to represent a constituency now of course parliament will be dissolved for the election on Wednesday meaning that morrow will be his last days in m.p. Ok thank you very much Bob b.b.c. Radio Congress political rip. Bob Cooper there with the news that John Woodcock won't be running in the general election for the barrel seat as I say we did ask John woodcock's office if he would be speaking today we're told he's not doing interviews today but we will be I will keep asking and hopefully bring you an interview with him about his decision as soon as possible now it's just coming up to 7 minutes past 5 and given there have been so many headlines of late about possible economic doom and gloom and political uncertainty you might be surprised to know all the new businesses are still springing up here in Cumbria according to the Cumbria business growth which is linked to the can reach member of commerce it helps 12 new businesses get started in the 3 months to September since April it supported over 250 potential startup firms Well Suzanne Caldwell is the deputy chief executive of Korea Chamber of Commerce She's also involved in the growth of hope too and she joins us in the studio goodness is on high now then the clue might be in the name just starts off by explaining what it is the growth hold doors and who it is that you actually help Yeah it's absolutely does what it says on the tin it's about growth it's about businesses so it's helping people who think they might be interested in starting a business to explore whether it's for that and then if they want to get started up and then we also work with existing businesses to help them be more competitive and to grow and so presumably is it your small businesses you one woman in a shed making something or is it a plethora it's a plethora so primarily it's s m e s which business is up to $250.00 employees and we work with everybody Frome. People who are even working part time in a business they don't even have to be running it full time right up to the 250 and where appropriate we do work with Visit bigger businesses as well and so is this as well as presumably giving advice to these businesses are I mean is that the funding the can get as well and it's the whole range of services that we deliver directly through the growth hope so directly for most they can review what it is that they need and then we tailor a package of support for that they can get advice the king at training they can get subsidies for things like working with an accountant with a web designer. Getting. Accreditation this and so forth. We have workshops we have managed development schemes that like us to university run as part of one of our projects. And then alongside of that and we also link them into the supports available so it really depends on where they are who they are and what they're looking to do so things like the Northern powerhouse investment firm and start at loans and the j.f.k. Enterprise Fund and the new rural funding that was just announced back in the last week and so are many new businesses then does the does the county have that the didn't have before you know how many how many have you helped in our sport crucially how many of you got you know people off the ground Wow Well I mean over the years thousands but specifically in the quarter to September we worked with 70 people just in those 3 months 12 of them have already started up a lot more of them are still in that process and a plan to start a pope for the next few months. And I think over the year so far we've worked with more than $250.00 people to start up and I mean what kind of businesses I would imagine there's a range what I guess actually more interesting than what kind of a business is that are maybe avoiding the high street we're hearing today care seemingly on the way out we never seem to get a lot of good high street news are they looking that way of they're looking elsewhere we do get people who are looking to start market stalls or to you know to go into retail not as many and quite understandably but the ones that we would be working with are the more so nice she ones where actually there is a reason to to go into the shop and to and to work with them individually but an awful lot of people are doing stuff online and it's one of the really popular and things that we do is helping people to get you know to get trading online and would that be probably one of the single biggest areas of growth in the kind of online or certainly online linked businesses and online is really rethought but an awful lot of it is about service businesses particularly related to dogs read of the popular like you don't groom in a groom in dog nail clipping in dog sitting in looking after your dogs while you're on holiday dog walking things. Dogs. Anything to do with dogs is immensely popular that's not what I was expecting but as you say I suppose you could say if it's a nation that you know there's a market that well it's something that people like to spend our lives and do do we know I mean are there any particular geographical areas of the county where I don't know maybe more businesses are starting a lot yeah there's lots going on all over the county but in the last 3 months the most startups have been in Carlisle. The most activity with existing businesses looking to grow has been in South Lakeland markets or the 2 What hot spots Yes And obviously we're talking about new businesses starting up that is a good thing but do you suppose a lot of businesses start out not all survive do you keep track on how many gospels go the distance Yeah we do continue to track them and you're going to be a number that's going to clean up ahead just our bad but we do know that the ones that we work with hearing I think more generally we do have better survival rates than most of the rest of the country so I mean given in our mentions of a bit lightheartedly we hear about economic doom and gloom political uncertainty in things is this I mean obviously it's not the one killer piece of proof but is this a bit of evidence that people are still willing to take risks and. Go into business try and make a bit of money people are being scared away entirely and it's interesting when you go through the recession people won't be scared away and a lot of it I think is to do with for all the challenges that are invited to business actually people feel more in control of their own destiny when they're in their own business they're not at the you know that at the behest of somebody who can certainly make redundant and they think that they do it could be their decision so it can be a risk but also a bit of a security blanket over that Lee And so you have some people have the opportunity if they think the jobs at risk and it's easier to when you've been major didn't for example to you know making a decision to leave a well paid job or secure a job to take the risk of starting up and you know you've often got that bit of backing behind you as well so you know it's often is that. Really practive decision and that and there's a lot of reasons why. A difficult economic situation can actually make that more popular choice Ok Well Suzanne thank you very much for coming into the studio that was called well deputy chief executive of a chamber of commerce and also part of the business growth of. B.b.c. Radio Cumbria in May. 13 minutes past 5 probably seen it at the weekend dreams shattered on Saturday morning as England's brilliant performance at the Rugby World Cup ended in disappointment it wasn't an easy watch was it really candles Mark Wilson he came on as a replacement in the final against South Africa but it just wasn't to be for Eddie Jones his men who were in fairness and sticks in the throat to say that they were outplayed in every area and they lost the much 32 points to 12 well b.b.c. Radio Korea's and regular News Hour presenter Adam Powell will be back with you on Wednesday he has actually been a family holiday in Japan and he's been watching some of the tournament including that all important final in your karma and he sent us this report. The Hopes were high going into the final England could repeat the heroics of 2003 when the Rugby World Cup. The signs were good after seeing off the All Blacks so convincingly in the semifinal South Africa stood in their way beaten by New Zealand earlier in the tournament I was one of thousands of England fans in the stadium Eddie Jones side could do it at the Springbok fans in Yokohama believed you know this was the friend it was now but a it's how confident are you tonight we're not confident to be low scoring game we're going to see when you see when box straight back out he's going to. Nagas give me the crucial players here to please deftly destroy me Yeah well not all 5 is not going to kill as an precisely that's a word it is but watch it tonight Billie Holiday and join again it's an unchanged side from the semifinal faced a South Africa team that had won this year's Rugby Championship it was a 1st software England scrum struggled against the Springboks Andre Pollard kicking his side in front the carnival atmosphere continued at Yokohama yet no sided ever trailed at half time and gone on to lift the Rugby World Cup. How 56 and 35 minutes like. She should add more Wilson has just come on for the final of the ruby World Cup 60 Minutes gone the school Henri's 18 points to 12 inches by 62 2nd off tries from South Africa ended England's dream. Despite the disappointment Japan 2019 was an amazing tournaments that I for one will remember that a country that welcomed the world. Is held to that many of this England squad will be there in France in 4 years time and who knows what could happen then. B.b.c. Radio. Reporting a good lot on holiday with his family but still sends a report and flying back from Japan today and I'll be back with you on The News Hour on Wednesday Now still to come before half 5 eighth's was kind of horrible histories time as we talk about the tale of Guy Fawkes involved though let's go to the news headlines. 17 minutes past 5 on a man from Colorado who deliberately scolded. His partner's head with boiling water has been jailed for 15 years the U.K.'s terrorism threat level has been downgraded from severe to substantial It hasn't been at this level since October 24th in football Chelsea Chelsea player in Golo County could return from injury to face I x. In the Champions League tomorrow and whether tonight will be more sleep cloudy and wet temperatures down to 3 Celsius tomorrow the rain will clear to leave a dry and sunny day with a top temperature of 11 Celsius. Caroline rhombus and. We've done alright when it comes to white wine even England how do we get rain we've never managed to ask because of our climate right that's correct so we mainly produce the high court she was sparkling wines pass a beautiful accent you've got there's where you French and French and why you ball are in English why is because you do it your friend she leaves dunnit there is a say in France you know we say that the food is German and the one is English that is so cheesy it was a shadow of the past for me I'm feeling flush Sharolyn Robison weekday mornings from boy on b.b.c. Radio Cumbria city forms actually even there on offer on a case. Yes Carol I'm back with you tomorrow morning between 912 this evening after 6 o'clock the news at 6 it is your classical with John Lipscomb on the shore Debussy Eldar an Irish pipe player from Kirby Stephen all of your brilliant requests coming up on your classical with John Lipscomb between 6 and 7 o'clock it is coming up to 19 minutes past 5 and you're listening to The News Hour on b.b.c. Radio Cumbria and there are just 10 days to go for candidates to register to fight to become your m.p. In this embers general election Nigel Farrar has just on veiled hundreds of bricks at Party candidates one of which will almost certainly be on your ballot paper for the latest on that and other. Election news I've been speaking to our political reporter Mark Lobel in Westminster or Nigel Farage setting out his candidate store for the BRICs a party today with the slogan clean break now and essentially what Nigel frosh wants Boris Johnson to do is pick up the phone and compromise and make changes to his deal that he's agreed with the e.u. Now Nigel Farage is actually been spelling out details of what he wants to change he wants the u.k. To be able to refuse to prop up the E.U.'s lending bank he wants Europe's courts nowhere near how we resolve trade disputes and he wants no deal on the table in the future basically he's saying that a trade relationship with the e.u. Is fine but he doesn't want political ties going forwards now he's offering the carrots if you like of campaigning together with the Conservatives even to pick off some of Labor's 5000000 leave voters who he called the most vulnerable in the country and he announced that he will be vote visiting the areas where they are the most labor leave voters over the next 5 weeks to claim labor betrayal over breaks it as he calls it well Labor's shadow chancellor John McDonnell says he's standing by his party's policy let the people decide and that's going down pretty well but also most people are saying all right yes practice it let's put that to one side so he style eating the importance of bricks in this election if you like but at the moment is center stage to be honest not least because it was a Brics it deadlocked because the election in the 1st place so well Boris Johnson thought he had a deal but Nigel Farage is now saying it's not bricks it well his the conservative Work and Pensions sectary to raise coffee with this warning the Conservative Party is the party will get Bracks it done you know I can understand how natural for puts at risk there being the person who lets bricks it evaporate so high stakes where what could happen next Boris Johnson has 10 days to decide if he's going to play ball with Nigel frosh otherwise Nigel process will put forward up to $600.00 candidates around the country interestingly though not himself having stood for Parliament 7 times before he's decided not to. And here's him telling his own party candidates why what is more important is what I can do with own for all of you let's fight this election I lead somewhere so he's going to go around the country campaigning instead but before we get too comfortable in our seats remember there are no certainties in any of this it's a big moment for Niger for Arjen 2 weeks' time when he has to decide whether to pull the trigger or not with his candidates and that could backfire for him or he might get cold feet and even if the parties don't agree there might be local deals just to give you one example today a former Dudley you could councilor Paul broth would have been selected as the brakes of Party's candidate for a seat in August he was in a stand in Dudley south well he's pulled out he says the brakes party votes could help a Labor Liberal democratic government that he said could risk stopping breaks it the question is will other people other candidates follow that and moving away from bricks then mock any chance bosses they've been speaking out today are supposed to do all politicians warning against vote based ones are all about. Here Well after a few stormy days in which the n.h.s. Has moved center stage in this election behind bricks it you've already heard the Tories and Labor vowing to spend billions to improve care and you know there's been a debate about how large the promises really are and what's actually new Tories have come forward with spending in England of $2700000000.00 for 6 new hospitals plus $34.00 more down the track Jeremy Coleman has said he'll endorse Sterrett in the n.h.s. Via what he called a proper funding settlement and he's going to announce details of that soon but Labor's also warning that the Tories will privatized the n.h.s. Now we've discussed this before but that's a row about a possible trade deal with the us that could put drug prices up a lock in the outsourcing of services well and it just bosses have basically warned about empty promises they're just afraid that the rhetoric has got out of hand and it's also an admission about how much pressure the n.h.s. Is under as winter approaches with over $4000000.00 people waiting for routine operations and over 100000 staff vacancies in the n.h.s. But well whether that warning from the n.h.s. Will or you know calm things down many people still expect it to remain a highly charged debate for weeks to come and another person getting a little bit highly charged at the moment I would imagine Liberal Democrat leader George Swinson she's angry because well she feels she's been Snowbird ahead of a t.v. Debate what she's been saying yes will show Swinson won't feature in i.t.v. As head to head election debate in 2 weeks' time she's issued a formal complaint to i.t.v. After they said they don't include Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn going head to head where initially she said that it was sexist and standing outside parliament just a few moments ago with female liberal Democrat candidates and female M.P.'s and female peers she said she's going to take legal action if i.t.v. Don't change their format t.v. Today. About who will be the next prime minister of our country cannot and should not exclude the only woman leader who is able to be the next prime minister and not only that the Liberal Democrats say that because they secured more votes than both Labor and the conservatives in the European elections earlier this year it would give balanced election coverage well i.t.v. Said it doesn't tend to offer viewers balanced election coverage over the campaign but just remember the effects of I agree with journalist 2010 election and how much taking part in those debates helped Nick Clegg that then Liberal Democrat leader so there's a big prize on offer if she can't get herself back into those debates I must say that the b.b.c. Has yet to announce its debates line up they haven't come forward yet that was our political reporter Mark Lobel in a Westminster there it's just coming up to 25 past 5 and remember remember the
