And Elaine Kaunas say they took a wrong turn and ended up crossing from Canada into Washington state they described that detention as the scariest scariest experience of their lives and you ministers will get an update on Brett's it later from the chief negotiator Michel Barnier discussions between the union and the u.k. Have intensified but Mr Bonny says big gaps still remain President Trump has announced sanctions on Turkey in protest at the country's military offensive in northern Syria president insists he won't back down from his campaign against Kurdish forces and extinction rebellion protests have been banned in London police have been clearing activists from Trafalgar Square the environmental group has described the move as an outrage 2 minutes past 6 well we're going to go straight to our lead story which is a sporting story this morning and the grim events involved area last night England 020 tried to qualify a stopped twice because of racist abuse from Bulgaria supporters this is well England fan Theo Ogden Saurin heard a lot she gestures are the last so-called critical areas things being said I don't want to see them because it's not something I want to you know show you all sports she ever again I want to block it out but things were being. Gestures to Charlie Sheen and really starting in certain parts of the game it was also the future in the game that was just yes I mean the whole experience again let's speak to Hugh Ferris who's here with us this morning we knew there was a risk that this could happen just talk us through exactly what occurred it's always interesting to hear from those within the stadium like the England fan Theo walked in there and some of the newspapers of course of got a lot of coverage of what happened in so fair and even though there was a much vaunted fear about what might happen in Sofia to hear the monkey chants to see the Nazi salutes that were being described by thought on the radio last night by a commentary team 5 Live and on the television coverage as well and to hear and to see it written about how shocking it still was bearing in mind the great amount of talking that was done before the game is instructive just to get a sense from a distance it might be a little bit easier to suggest that it's all part of the. Mel a of what's going on but the way that it cut through I think was interesting for those who heard it cut through from within the 4 walls of that stadium after about 22 minutes or so the monkey chants seem to start directed at Tyrone Mings to begin with he's making his England debut would you believe in just 20 minutes into this game he was hearing monkey chants that he directed to the 4th official he was on that side and he said Did you hear that we saw that on the television coverage last night the 1st intervention came about 5 minutes later when the 1st of the 3 step you Ifa protocol took place this is a 3 step protocol is that you've been in place for around 10 years but it's been seen so rarely that it was needed to be explained to us as we're watching as it was going on and has been in the newspapers this morning and we will attempt to do that as well in 5 Live breakfast this morning Step one was Southgate bringing the matter up with the 4th official who then brought it out with the referee brought Harry came into the conversation and it was then asked of the stadium announcer that they make a statement that statement was to the Belgariad fans from where the monkey chants were originating this is an important announcement the announcer said because of racist behavior the referee has indicated he might suspend the match racism will not be tolerated please be in no doubt that the game will be suspended and might be abandoned if it continues please everyone say no to racism so that happened just after halfway through the 1st half and you have to remember the ironic pictures of say no to racism and hash tag respect which with the banners that were put over the area of the stadium in Sofia that was shut because of previous racist abuse during games in the Euro qualifying sequence and then the 2nd incident happened just before half time where once again the game was stopped at which point the referee asked councell and Harry Kane would you like to. Leave the field because the 2nd part of that you wait for protocol is to suspend the match for a period of time and potentially take those players back into the dressing room before further action is taken it was decided by counts in hurricane in consultation with the England players that they because it was so close to half time they would get to the break and have a conversation about what best to do following that the 3rd incident which would have led to a match abandonment never happened because it seems that during halftime the England players and management staff made a decision that they would stick it out there were further monkey chants punny do we just get the impression a sense that all being implies we're happy with that decision a suggestion that there was any kind of not from any of the anyone or any anything that we've read or heard or seems to be unanimous agreement amongst those players who would have been consulted by hurricane and of course Gareth Southgate that they would carry on there was more directed at him Sterling in particular in the 2nd half but jury half time to key things happened a group of Bulger and supporters left the stadium whether they were forced to or their own volition is a little bit muddy this morning and also even pop out who is the Bulgarian captain went over to a section of buggery fans and what seemed to be pleaded with them remonstrated them to stop behaving in that way is a part of you a 1st person I know but I imagine that is one of the key features of the game and must be in every all the applause for the England players and how they reacted we must also say that if even papa was indeed saying to them stop it yeah it might have had some sort of effect and it may have been a key feature in keeping that part I mean disposed the key thing in here is did the protocol was did it why did the racist chanting stop the racist chanting did not stop there were more monkey chants in the 2nd half but give even after that group of supporters and yes but given the opportunity that the England fans had been given to leave after the 2nd opportunity so the 2nd part of the pro. Call is to suspend the game for a period of time yeah and then potentially come back this is so you can abandon the math right so given the players that said no we want to carry on it was decided to carry on almost regardless and then yes essentially when there were more monkey chants because they had resolved to stay on pitch and see the game outs that would not be ignored because it must not be ignored but they had to decide that decision it would carry on playing so there were no further interruptions of the game and no further invoking of the 3rd part that you want the protocol Let's just hear from tirade beings who made his debut last night he was speaking to John Murray after the match it was a great moment for me personally. Really really proud moment in my career not just for me but for everybody has helped me along the way so everybody enjoys this moment isn't overshadowed by the incident in the 1st half obviously disappointing but proud of how we responded to it and that we took the appropriate steps and ultimately came through the game what what exactly happened what did you hear. I think everybody heard the chance. Like I said it was disappointing not to tear it clear as day at times. But luckily for me it doesn't affect me too much. I mean I feel more sorry for the people who feel they have to have an opinion and make those comments but at the same time like I said it was escalate in the right way and the correct protocol was followed so very proud of everybody for the decision that we made such a shame for someone like him. Playing for his country for the 1st time and you know quite rightly talked about the pride he felt to doing that but all the background noise was so discussed and given that somebody like Tyra Mings in quite a lot of the England players some of the black players a very young as well Marcus rash that was also targeted you get a sense of the the ability that they had to see the wider picture and to understand how to react there is huge price for by things and players and how they react. And Indy Car Southgate how he was aware of the situation able to invoke that 3 step protocol understand who he needed to talk to to escalate the matter and also we're going to come on to talk about how he and right reacted on the television coverage and it was very very instructive Well I mean there is going to inevitably be a lot of discussion about whether you actually takes a hard line on all of this so he said on i.t.v. At half time we've seen a set of people that have no respect they're not bothered shows you a for what they are they're not doing enough about it more needs to be done this is a set of fans that need educating Well there's that but there's also the sense that fans feel that they can get away with this that they can act as they want to a couple more tax on this from our listeners this morning Stu and over think they should have walked off he says I think the white capped in the white manager or joke they should have taken the players off their all talk although I suppose you would say that they they did consult all the players and as far as we know all the players were happy to continue another one here this is willful racism and it's hard to stop a lot of work is needed to ensure these people do not attend any sporting event because the whole issue about educating football fans educating people in general that is a long term project but there is a question about whether you're right it just needs to be much more hard line. Abound these incidents in the moment to try and you know send the message home very directly that this won't be tolerated and to have yes the ironic backdrop as we mentioned of the stadium being partially closed already but that clearly. You know exactly so what is your next step Croatia had the stadium completely closed for an England qualifier for Nations League game rather last year and it leads to the game which of course is the thing that should be celebrated in the thing that has brought all these people together in the 1st place the game feels very much like a byproduct of the the environment just quickly to go back to the fact that the players decided themselves that they wanted to stay on Marcus Rushford tweeted last night not an easy situation to play in and not one which should be happening in 2019 proud we rose above it to take the 3 points but this needs stamping out and Harry McGuire said the best way to bounce back proud of the team there's no place in football for that disgraceful behavior Something Must Be Done England of course won the game 6 nil they were 4 nil up by half time when they made the decision they wanted to see just on that in terms of their qualification process one more point one more point is needed as Kosovo beat Montenegro So they say they're not quite 3 yes but let's hear from Troy Townsend who's had a development to kick it out of the anti-racism charity he spent too much time in on 5 live Sport he said football's governing bodies have no one to hold them to account when it comes to dealing with racism we haven't got the power to do anything between 3 for a new wife but we haven't got one should be for come down to 3 feet away from we're actually regardless of what you say we need to be Microsoft but yet people don't take the approach you stop people as well so you know once in office or when no one to respond to they can make the decisions I make the focus on because the stadium is filler out. There. Will. Be more subtle and they don't have to worry about it no one told them to work out between the 2 of them they are very. Call. In all the folk in our players and I'll even if issues tonight you know that rings other friendly things in our food I avoid them if I didn't noises in the car that were coming from the from the sun because they're the closest people to it to try warming theory why are they not machine and acknowledge in a bottle so trying to trying to officiate the guy on the back of the. Has to be some serious questions to labeled at them and we need some serious offers now because you know the Bulgari manager before the game you know we don't have a right in front of a problem we just I saw this ground is partially closed you saw body language you know I think I put talking to the official people the language was come on now let's play on that tell you everything you need to know about what these people think about racism allegation just in October fans tonight you know they should not be allowed in the ground anyway they're probably part of the section that should have been closed like just be moved somewhere else it's a disgrace and you while you can now need to take this one they need to be held to account they do need to how to account let's try Townsend from Kick It Out This from Michael in Bullington he says I was so upset by last night I was hoping to wake up to news from you wife of the Bulgarian were banned from international football for many years our officials should be held to account and if necessary prosecuted for racism by neglect and incompetence it's an absolute disgrace to football and to humanity do you have not yet made a statement on this you. Were asked to make a statement last night from what we understand they say that they will follow the normal investigative paths by still on the referees report on the 4th official report and probably more most importantly the delegates reports who is an Italian official who is that very much part he is the person who is in charge of the governance of that match on behalf of you he is the person that essentially leads that 3 step protocol and is there to make any much time decisions but there are those. And we should put this into the kind of context that you would expect us to present of the Bulgarian. He said he didn't hear anything during the press conference hastily arranged with f.a. Chairman a Greg Clarke who called on u.i. For to investigate swiftly after what happened in Sofia during that press conference one of the members of the Beaucaire impress shouted exaggeration from the floor so there are those who will contest the issue is as clear as Tyrone men felt it was and how we have heard from pitch side microphones from coverage on 5 Live last night and from everything we saw on the television Many thanks we'll keep an eye out for any statement from you right for throughout the course of the morning of course 60 minutes past 6. For news and the best large this is b.b.c. 5 live by God but. Our in the thick of it now aren't we the week that could decide Oliver exit fate could whether we leave with a deal have another referendum or walk away without a deal at all and we're bringing you up to date every day with how things are panning out as the clock ticks down. So yesterday things started off in Westminster. Then the police. Arrived by carriage along with a crown to address loads and M.P.'s. I was blackballed calling them in the Queen outlined the government's legislative program although there's very little chance of any of this actually being carried through by the current minority government but it did contain one big promise that the prime minister made months ago to take us out of the European Union by the end of this month so today. Attention turns to the BRICs that negotiations discussions went on in Brussels until half past 10 last night they start again from 9 o'clock this morning according to number 10 we are now in the tunnel looking at the technical detail of a future deal but that's been played down by all the voices from the e.u. 27 Finland's prime minister and the current president of the e.u. Ante Rinna says there isn't enough time for a deal to be reached by the summit this week or even if this will get an update on the gauche ations from the east chief negotiator Michel Barnier a little bit later on today and then tomorrow or Wednesday. I. Come in as is likely to meet for a breakfast update which falls postponed from today they were supposed to be meeting today Meanwhile over in Brussels negotiations will have to be in the final stages if there is any chance of agreeing a deal to be presented to leaders at the summit on Thursday. That is the start of a crucial 2 day summit of e.u. Leaders in process now in theory this is where the New Deal is presented to lead is debated by them so that finally on Friday. We have to day decisions. That's when the summit is expected to give its verdict on any new deal but of course I may not be a new deal on the table so in that case the summit will instead look at the options of extending the goshi ation So a deal could still potentially be in place before October 31st or maybe extending beyond that date which moves all the action back to Westminster on Saturday. And we have a special session of parliament then for the 1st time since the Falklands War in 1982 and please will either debate the new withdrawal agreement if there's one in place but it is also the date by which the prime minister must ask the e.u. For another delay to practice it under the Byrne act if that new deal hasn't been agreed there's also talk of a vote on another referendum and with no deal yet agreed there's also of course a possibility of a vote of no confidence in the prime minister in the coming days so all options are still very much on the table Jack senior researcher for the Institute of Government on the BRICs it t. Morning Marty how are you. Willing to cut a clear as mud but there seems to be I suppose maybe what 3 clear paths now for the government to potentially take in the next week or 2 can you take us through what the options are yeah I think that's right I mean I think that the 1st option is that I think it's probably looking fairly severe like it a stage but is that they do agree a deal at the European Council this week so that they can have a vote on Saturday to approve that deal and if he's do approve it and they can pass the implementing legislation the following sort of 2 weeks to get the u.k. Out of the e.u. With a deal by that much faster taper and the sort of 2nd scenario which from some perspective is becoming more like is that you know they get to the point where you're pick out so eat as might say look there's progress being made but there isn't enough detail on the proposals yet so there needs to be so there's more talks potentially a crease opening just before the touch of a. But then there will be need to be a short extension to allow time for this to process investments to pay out and then the sort of 3rd option is then as you've outlined is that no deal is agreed N.P.'s will probably be asked to vote on Saturday to approve leaving the without a deal so that the prime minister doesn't have to ask for an extension under the bed act we expect that wouldn't pass we know there's a majority against it in a parliament and then the prime minister would be applies to ask for an extension and in which case there's quite a big question mark about how long the extension will be and what should take place during that extension so really the 2 most likely options or the most likely outcome is that this whole process will be extended by some period so we've either got a sort of short or technical extension if we're going to get some kind of deal in place by the end of this month or the other one as you suggest much more vague Yeah I think that's how I see at this point although I will say that we can never be certain about anything in this breaks a process there you know I might end up being proved wrong but but yeah I think that is that is how we might see it played out and then and if we do you go 1st if we can't get to agree but the e.u. And we can even get a sort of well positive noises about a possible deal before the end of the month then I think there will be a big question from the E.U.'s perspective of what what is the u.k. Going to do with more time and then I think if we if you know the government really caught close to agreeing something with the e.u. We might end up saying so is another Democratic event he said turn to so that be a general election or another referendum would have to wait and see what the numbers in parliament are awful although you know if we do have another referendum there is a question about what that referendum is on Labor's position is on is an issue be on a deal that is remain so then the big question is what deal with that be so it's sort of still quite quite on sas it this point quite how to pays out it's certainly a psych you very much money Thanks for attempting to at least explain what the options maybe lying ahead of us all the best money team jackets. From the Institute for government it's 622 now I brought you news of the story concerning a British family who are reportedly being held by u.s. Immigration officials after they say accidentally straying over the border from Canada into the United States they've got a 3 month old baby with them and they've been detained for 12 days now our correspondent Peter Bowes I think has been trying to catch up with this story Peter what do we know what can you tell us well there is a lot to catch up with the story started as you said 12 days ago David Connors and his wife Eileen were traveling with their 3 month old son in the Vancouver area with relatives another couple with also young children they were driving apparently near the border with Washington state when they had to swerve to avoid an animal in the road and that made them take a detour go down a road that they weren't expecting and that road took them to the border the international border with the United States they crossed that this wasn't an official border it was just a relatively quiet road that they went down without expecting to end up in the United States they never wanted to come to the u.s. They say but as soon as they crossed that border they saw the blue flashing lights the police stopped them and took them into custody and initially they were separated mother and father taken to different facilities the mother was taken with the the baby the next day the mother was taken to a hotel briefly and then the entire family flown across country to Pennsylvania to another detention center and this is one of 3 detention centers in the United States that's designed to take families the kind of place that we've been hearing a lot about in recent months with migrant families coming across the southern border of course the big difference with this case is that this is a family that didn't want they say to come to the u.s. And they are still there after 12 days and they. Say the conditions a terrible they say that the cells are being kept in a freezing cold they complain that these are no conditions for a young child to be kept in they say it is the scariest experience of their lives they've made an official complaint to the u.s. Government and it still isn't clear when they are going to be released or what's going to happen to this is an extraordinary story you would think in any normal circumstances this happened you go slightly the wrong way Ok across the border you explain to the officer he's not a problem turn around off you go back up that way but just be aware don't cross this line again how on earth it's escalated to this level have we had any response at all from the American authorities Well yes we have but not to that point we haven't told an explanation as to why as you describe it you would think any sane person would say Well look clearly this is a mistake and head off on your way you shouldn't be going down that road so we haven't had a response as to the why there we've heard from the u.s. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency confirming that the family is indeed still at this facility but denying that the conditions there are as described by the family in fact they say that this is a safe and humane environment for families as they go through the immigration process I spoke to one of the family's lawyers earlier and they seem to think that there was some hope there's been some discussions with the British authorities here and also with some of the families other members back at home in the u.k. And it seems as if the message is that they may be released in the next day or 2 but that's far from certain whole thing is completely bizarre thank you very much Peter we'll keep in touch with you on that one as well 626. Not only pay nearly for anyone else. Release bad calls by like this weekend. Losing 5 lives on the elite Sunday this is 5 life the morning show in the fountain we are poised for some news about the car leasing market this morning and so pay a price that so many of our listeners will be familiar with it may well be the way they have bought that car oh yeah and one of those parts is that 10 years ago hardly anybody was doing so it's something that so many of us that a car owners have become experts in leasing a car pick the p.c.p. Sort finance model the personal contract purchase that people will be familiar with if you want to new car it sort of seems doesn't it that you can get or a different car that you can get a new a better car for just a few 100 quid a month and then you're away that sort of been the what the thing that's driven the growth in these leasing contracts but of course you know whoever the lender is a lot of money for the value of the car sometimes the full value sometimes half the 1st explain again to survey simply how it works so you if you want to buy a car actually take out a loan for a certain percentage of the car and you will pay back the loan over a $3.00 or 4 period 34 year period but come the end of that say 3 year period you won't have had a loan on the entire amount of the still own amount of money that's owed on the car so you're given an option at that point to either pay the difference cash in your car or just hand the car back and so it's quite a complex financial deal really if you think the person the company lending you that money has got to take all those things into account take into account the depreciation in the value of the car when you come back they don't want to be losing a lot of money by giving you a great believer the offer for 3 or 4 years in the same time you therefore need to be aware of what you might end up owing us since one of the problems with it one of the concerns for customers yes so because that you can see the alarm bells the regulator might have when there's been a huge quick growth in lending in a certain area so consumer credit card dealership finance has been the area and they're worried that customers have been paying significantly more for their mo to finance. Then they should be really whether the market has been working properly for consumers Commission issues as well so there's widespread use of commission models so you can have conflicts of interest the person selling you your finance for example of they got an interest in trying to get you to buy a car as well those 2 things the 2 products in theory should be quite separate So there's lots of things that we're looking into at 7 o'clock this morning we're going to hear an update on thank you very much Sean and if you're affected by that or have an interest I had to get in touch this morning quick hello should all the noise have a good shout about cars before I have to the least petrified of people I possibly know. More about being a woman in the Kalahari it's a little bit later on but we need to get the weather his crystal and for many across England Wales it's pretty cloudy starting out on breaks of rain across eastern areas will tend to ease a few showers to watch out for today across Wales and southern counties of England some of those could be fairly heavy but generally the weather will get a bit brighter a little bit driver as we head through the afternoon although there will still be some showers for Wales and parts of southwest England temperature wise ties between 14 and 17 degrees today Northern Ireland a few showers cloudy starts the day you can it should send a bit brighter later on with highs of 14 degrees and in Scotland threat of a bit of rain across the southeast of the country otherwise it's a bright start to the day frosty with some sunny spells developing fairly wide electronic highs of 14 degrees. Yet it's all slightly embarrassing and having spoken yesterday about the need to drive with due care and attention and be mindful and polite to all other fellow car and road users this is slightly ironic however it's meant I've been to a couple of characters in the last couple of days to look at 2nd hand options and I am in the unique position of knowing more about the cars of the people selling them to me because I do know the manufacturers guys and even to be honest when you are they know so little about Evey's quite often and so I was able to identify Yes there was a clear deficiency with one vehicle they were trying to sell me that I had no idea about them along the way it is a. Tiny bit more complex and that's all but not much so they do. Pass away food for you love if they did it's rather intriguing position to be unknown I'm quite enjoy anyway to the sport and there was actual football on the pitch last night here we shouldn't forget that but it was all a bit depressing Yes played an extraordinary circus as over haps not as extraordinary as indeed should be but England's tiring says he could hear the racist abuse during the year a qualifier in Bulgaria as clear as day but it was a team decision to stay on the field that had made his international debut last night as play was halted twice in the 1st half because of racist abuse from supporters in line with us the protocol in. And had the option to walk off the pitch but played the full 90 minutes and won the game 6 male Ming says the players decided together to remain were close but as he made a commonsense decision that there was only a couple of minutes left of the 1st half so let's play the remaining couple of minutes and I think they went off on and so quiet and it was a collective decision right the way through right after and we spoke about what happened and was everybody Ok to come back out on everybody so jealous compromise with the f.a. Has condemned the abuse and Koofi urgently response Troy Townsend is Kick It Out head of development the way for now the only possible option to me. Watching now that I've already had apostles. Might say actually Netflix you're not having any of asked if any more we're going to put it on our own platform we sought to say Nike not to just sell more stuff through their iron platforms online themselves shops and selves and also Pete very specific about where they place look because they just don't think sports director of are all brand ultimately the kind of appearance of the stole the nature of the business and I'm not maybe if some people have about that but of course not Nike not just will say no we've got a large trying to as you can sell of us but maybe not the premium product that we would like to either place in our own stores or in of the stores of our choosing So that's the debate is that and the what it comes down to his easy Fatih consumers that when you when brands have power they can do that yeah Ok let's have a web with Michelle mall he's a competition lawyer and Senior Policy Fellow Hello Michelle morning I've had this kind of thing before yes I mean it this is a kind of a typical situation as you mentioned around the power of the brand brands like address and Nike wield a huge amount of power the high street retail is not a 5000000000 pound market and they get to decide which stores are allowed to sell them ace in the long train and that makes a huge difference to his store profitability and we might be a bit skeptical about Mike Ashley intentions a vested interest there I mean he's essentially complaining about the power of the brand but he's also the same time complaining about the ledgers to be rivals candy or that asylum so only the Senshi trying to get something close to the Sports Direct outs as a regular she process is already ongoing but the line you said there which feels like the critical one is they get to decide he gets to decide this thing I mean is this is this a fight that Mike Ashley can possibly win. Well and I think actually it's a bigger story than kind of sports director Mark my caution here because what we're really kind of looking at is the slow death of the British High Street we've got 100000 jobs that were lost on the Bush side you know a few years and it's not you know just about big big companies like Sports Direct you get the. Small independent schools special to suffocate. Yeah I get that but I suppose you know the Nike have got their own outlets haven't they and I guess they'll have those exclusive type of brands if you like the want to set out of their I mean saying that the must have brands how the ball getting position which allows them to control both the supply and the price of their product starts with Mark Ashley's complaining about but but why not you know they put themselves into that position so why shouldn't they be able to make those decisions. Well I mean you know that stuff for the average come to the markets authority if they were to bring in investigations they would be looking at they be looking out whether restricting the sales of that train is that website so that the partners who are as you say kind of you choosing which premium products they get to sell and which they distribute so that the authorities be looking out whether that does prevent customers from they have to shop around from Dell they have to get a good deal and perhaps from that they would get a better service and make getting their shoes measured off it and you know obviously Nike would say this is about cutting out the middleman you know they sell direct to consumer through their own websites you give kids the truth about the price but you know one might say the cheaper train is why not be a good thing necessarily in a kind of fast fashion throw away we sell culture. But you know the cost of savings in the Venice of just as likely to purchase shareholders is it never is really kind of clear whether the customer really will benefit Ok Michelle thanks very much indeed Michelle Mahrer he's a competition Senior Policy Fellow thanks to Shawn as we'll talk in more detail about our colleagues similarly later with you as well including colleagues saying they're facing Yeah. Defense leasing a car on a couple people have made the point that we should be careful to make that distinction Ok phone. See what the regulator says about my grumpy teenage son he was very grumpy at the mine because feeling I still town it's still a little black hole loads of people tweeting me last night about this I was just kind of hanging around slightly less leaning stressing out today just like you can tell us I said was a challenge yeah I know exactly I only this evening says Chris my son's 30 whatsapp group was burning up the Internet about the Apart demise of photons I almost said his but I saw myself just in time not a bunch of Caroline I actually had a conversation and so my sponsor not for more than 5 minutes Cyrus as my 12 year old has moved on to face up. It's actually a living hell for my friend whose son is autistic and for him the game is absolutely central to his happiness that the past 24 hours have been utterly impossible for them another one here my 12 year old is playing with his mates and Minecraft is a temporary replacement but he still as loud as ever. My son now has an obsession with roadblocks I think that's what it is yes it is you can tell I know nothing about it says Mitch I know a bit about and Helen says much of your older 10 year old amazingly done as I've asked right away tonight without uttering the words I'm in the middle of a game I don't quite know how to deal with this behavior my external noise around Fall is really the flux because it's kind of where it came from. I know we are I know we are but is this because a new series is coming is that is that what it is or what has ended a new one starting and has been such a challenge the one has finished Ok Chapter 2 your think is about to begin there have been 10 seasons and this was the end of season one end of season 2 so there have been 10 seasons they didn't challenge the wild off my site here with me here with most of them it's 644 we're going to talk about homeschooling now parents are being driven to homeschooling their children because of a breakdown in relationships with schools and not by choice that's the warning from Ofsted inspectors they looked at 7 local authorities in the East Midlands in particular test stuff and Berg is a freelance education journalist who writes for schools week among others and has been looking at the story hello Jess. Give us a general idea about the kind of rise in home schooling always see the numbers increase here. We are seeing numbers increase so I read an internet while. Eating 3 really for quite a few years now and the latest figures show you. Are about 58000 children and 90 education those are the ones that we no doubt like behind and off an increasing trend. And does it presumably. And in some major parties are choosing a much higher rate than just trying to increase I did want. Escalation Devon It was close to 300 percent. It's yeah it's really shows up around the country well there's a he's on this especially false that needs to kind of keep an eye on the ball and see that the families are doing what I need to and I think that's part of the problem here the concern they have is that parents don't necessarily really have the knowledge the variance about the cost of responsibilities of home educating Yeah well the it depends who you're talking to so we we've traditionally had very you know middle class families and of the families few with special educational needs people who actually know really well Hansie how to look after their children in feel let down by the system and hitting a great job but what it looks like is happening now is that parents just feel that my full swing made this decision in a sense reports come out all the parents I spoke to a single one mention the benefits of home education is the reason they were home educating say what we're saying is people who are not really wanting to see this and the concern with that is that therefore they're not equipped to do it well right and tell us a bit about the breakdown in those relationships in school is what's going on the well it will depend to your speaking to the school will say in the unions and said you know we've had our budgets cut and that we don't have teaching assistants we don't have to send Who will usually you know make sure that people special education is getting what they need so they're not able to support these people as well as they should. And that the government needs to get more funding parents looks like are saying you know we've been exactly given a choice of either leave or be excluded who will prosecute you with a fine for because the child's not coming to us going after the yes that they feel like that they will see I mean a long case there is a school which appeared to break in on behalf of a pair of parents to the local council and the parents just simply signed the latter at the bottom so there's definitely a case in which goes and making it happen we're not really. Sounding thing and we're talking about children and I certainly don't mean to lump all all these children together who are all individuals and all have their own perhaps challenges but we're talking about children with well a range of behavioral issues possibly possibly a.d.h. D. Possibly autism. The evidence back from us as shows that makes them have complex means and if not that already one social services all there in the social care of some kind is a really vulnerable people. And the concern with that is that you know that that's tough for a school to be to make sure that people get really implications that. Parents who are often going to have to stop working in which to do this. Is really concerning what's the answer more money I mean it tends to be more money it's not just that the government actually had a consultation which place in some way and that I've been going on about potentially having a register so that all children you know need to go into a home education register so that local authorities actually know where they are and I've also been told quite a while local authorities actually going in to inspect the. Surroundings but the conservation response is they're still being analyzed by the government the government really needs to hurry out to problem for education needs to come out with this you know register if they're going to do that and they need to get the ball rolling on how they're going to ensure that parents and children are getting to school in need and that we know that they're getting a good quality education thank you very much indeed just south of the freelance education journalist on the difficulties the challenges surrounding home schooling for many parents and families in and land it's 648 p.c. Sound download different b.b.c. Sales and discover the best the firefly's Pod costs including you me and the big c. Tell you what to talk about a topic that every single person affected with cancer has experience of and that is primary care the car starts that morning any decision passed in to tap a country of trial using radio. On b.b.c. Sound. Out of the just a couple of your texts on this whole issue of sports I wrote that we were just hearing about Mike Ashley basically saying that Nike and Adidas are playing fair once an investigation into the sports where industry because of the way they control the supply and price of their products as far as he sees it cover your tax changes that forces are working retail buying Mike Ashley is spot on here all the big brands operate things called selective distribution agreements that stipulates huge number of criteria to whether retailers can stock brands effectively this is shows retailers only sell at the retail prices the brand wants because if they don't the retailer does not get any stock and the amount has to says the Ashley story is fossil like you know he does console do they won't come they they have no obligation to sell their premium products to Sports Direct and potentially deteriorate the brand image in what he calls his shabby stores according to the so thank you for that now after 8 o'clock this morning we're going to be talking to the parents of a little boy a tiny boy who was born prematurely at just 23 weeks doctors gave Charlie McCluskey a 20 percent chance of survival a b.b.c. One Scotland documentary called Tiny Lives is following the difficulties the challenges he faced and how he did come out the other side and I've just seen clips of it this morning it is spine tingling it's very emotional and it's remarkable the brilliant work that the baby doctors and nurses do to look after these tiny tiny children this was one of the biggest turning points for him. Charlie is now 44 days old his ventilator has been breathing for him since the minute he was born. His lungs have grown stronger but consultant parent McAllen the team need to find out if he's ready to bring life on his own I just think perhaps to. Say I think he is working is that he's treated is that his day if it is to try for all the can do is try. You know for all of ever found of Charlie's. Say and I got the noninvasive spot that's the pink mask on his nose and then Mrs Beeton cheek coming a moment to shine. He's looking really good for yes it's a really good on the states have emotional You can see on a 5 page if if you hadn't seen it yet already and it's just just also remarkable what tiny little fighters they are how much they can get through. Many challenges it's a bit of a dad who are going to speak to Charlie's dad when skin to skin with Charlie and I just After all they have been through you know that point where they finally have that kind of connection was just something else so yeah I will speak to them a little bit later on 652 at the age of 72 Elton John is enjoying or in a sense has he ever been away there's. Never been a way is he this year alone he's been the subject of a hit film he's played 88 concerts and he's come up with a new Broadway musical and he was even the John Lewis Christmas up from last year you will remember this way he's got is also a biography out and it's called maybe which says something about the band. Of all the people in the world who had all her biography who could have chosen that title but didn't Elton John did music reports about Savage has been submitted to a higher mark how are you doing good how do you feel about going to meet him because he's got a kind of rep house and he well I knew he used to have a rap but I've interviewed him a couple of times over the years and he's always incredibly friendly he always starts to chat with a compliment he remembers you from the time before he's quite open and honest these days I think since you know the kind of the eighty's period where he was slamming all of his rivals in the press and talking very candidly about you know the people that annoyed him over the years and these days he's a bit more mellow Yeah now you've read the book. What's it like his can imagine he probably still lets rip on the pages doesn't a hope so anyway Well it's very very honest and actually the person he rips into the most as it sells me is incredibly candid by the drug abuse and the alcohol obese that that he had you know throughout the seventy's and eighty's and he describes some you know her ific and quite lurid scenes things that went wrong suicide attempts there's an incredible passage in Cannes in 1803 he's just shot the video for I'm still standing and he wakes up completely unaware of what happened the night before and all he knows is that his hands are hurting and if I just may do a bit this is just incredible it gets told later I returned to the video set demanded they begin running the cameras took off all my clothes and started rolling around on the floor and my manager was there performing as an extra in the video dressed as a clown he remonstrated with me an intervention I took very badly so badly in fact that I punched him in the face some service said it looked like a broken his nose someone else had managed to get my clothes back on by this point this I was told took several attempts on my personal assistant Bob Holly hustled me up the stairs I expressed my displeasure by that invent intervention by smashing up his hotel room and as a finale I stomped on his hat then staggered back to my own room and passed out so I mean apart from the punches he pulled out his own manager the book pulls no punches about his life stamping all the hats I mean that's the ultimate insult he steps on another person's hand yes. I do know Elton who through famous for wearing his hat he will know the pain. As people will know from watching the film his his parents loom large over the Elton John's story did I not absolutely mean obviously his mum is there throughout the whole book she encourages him to play the piano and she's very accepting when. Comes out but at the same time you know she famously didn't invite him to her 70th birthday party because they saw light and heart not on the person experienced so that all gets told in the book with the thing that really struck me he says in the 1st chapter that he spent his whole career trying to prove his dad wrong so when I got him on the line from Vancouver last week I asked him I just wanted his approval he's been dead for like 30 is I'm still trying to prove things to my dad it's crazy but although he didn't really come to the shows or write to me a letter and say well done I don't think he knew how to and in the 1st couple of chapters the boy you describe is quite shy and quite naive which is very different to the Elton that we see on stage so what's the connection between that child and the extrovert performer Well I think I grew up in the 1950 s. Which was a very conservative age people peeping behind the curtains being very judgmental I knew nothing about sex I wasn't taught about sex that was never mentioned to me if a girl got pregnant she was sent away and nobody told but it was a very different place so I grew up in the fifty's being very shy not being able to wear what I want to do will pick issues no they were too disgusting when I became Elton John I changed my name is like a freedom you got to be a teenager in your twenty's essentially exactly that's when my teenage years happened as you can see I didn't waste any time I just went off like an exercise missile and. And well x. Is set Missy is carrying on in the same vein isn't easy sort of feels like you know b.b. King carried on touring every day of the year it seems like through his music career and Joan is a zes not resting up anytime soon is a no it's very typically Elton John tonight a farewell tour and then in the next breath tonight that farewell tour will go on for 3 years. But he says you know and he was quite candid saying that you know he has decided to step away from touring so that he can spend more time with his sons he sat down with his partner David Furnish and they went through the school shadow and he said well I don't want to miss any of this the kids only grow up once and but what he did say to me towards the end of the interview is he actually does have plans to play live when the tour ends he wants to do something like Kid Bush's residency at the Hammersmith Apollo just a couple of years ago and got some of those songs from his my catalog that you don't hear him playing so you know everybody knows your song and Saturday nights are providing a tiny dancer but he was talking about songs that you might not remember a marina from Tumbleweed Connection and original sent That's a good idea I mean it could be like what Prince did the Ode to Joy member when he did it just with the piano which was one of his it wasn't a tour it was a residency the o 2 which he did for a month or 2 where he just had the piano in the round and the result talking about it in that kind of ways because I was off the tickets and I for some reason didn't take the world off to our secrets again I don't know. If you carry time right back so that's. Why didn't he talk about why he called it may just very very quickly because of his quote you know bold isn't he didn't he didn't but I will say this you know you know all the stories the Servatius stories in the score settling that he used to do this book he wrote for his sons so that when he as he said shuffles off this mortal coil they will have something to remember him by so it is very much a book about Elton and not so much a bite the showbiz. Parties or the other stuff that happened in his life it. Was Ok Mark great stuff thank you very much and the music reporter Mark Savage We're also looking at live pictures of I can't really see much of the moment I have to say from Pakistan where that you can Duchess of Cambridge have arrived there doing a tour of Pakistan. In Islamabad which I mean this woman in the green hat was a little bit worrying much at the Shrub Yeah I mean you were a lot of the details around this particular tour are being kept. Secret for security reasons obviously a huge amount of security so tell me yesterday something like a 1000 police officers from the u.k. Have been involved in the security for this particular trip. But Kensington Palace to admit it is the most complex jewel told to date due to political tensions and security concerns in the beach and they will go to all kinds of places meet all kinds of people I think that meeting Iran Kong today and. Paris designers as well and the mail today has got a huge spread now inside pages about what a wonderful company can touches of Cambridge and how well 5 manage that public cuties media interest in a massive space trust somebody axed Yeah they had to take the commentary but keep an eye on it and. When you. Play nearly anyone on this b.b.c. Radio 5 morning everyone it is Tuesday morning 5 Live breakfast Criswell that I'm Rachael good morning the top news story unfold live this hour England's going against. Weis because a racist abuse from both Gary has supporters in sports England win the game in Sofia 6 nil to take them within a point of the Euro finals will the regulator put 100 on the car finance market a big decision expected about whether consumers are being ripped off we've got 3 medal winning British gymnasts in the studio in the next half hour looking forward to that also trouble was the slow south down from Junction and red ball instruction 8 Hemel Hempstead because of an accident on the m 24 was going to lying close quote was at the moment a junction 8 for Gates to clear an accident although we'll have more in 20 minutes . This is b.b.c. 5 my crazy news this morning the Sports Minister Nigel Adams says he wants you to take tough action off to racism in England 02020 qualify and Bulgaria last night the much as whole to twice because of chance from the home fans England won the game 6 Nel. The old Tim is there a lot she gestures in last so-called look and area things being said I don't want to see them because it's not something I want to you know show you all sports she ever again I want to block it out but things were being thrown up gestures to Charlie Sheen and looking stunning in certain parts of the game it was asked of the future in a game that was just some I never will experience again the family of Harry Dunn a calling on the Foreign Office to publish the advice which led to the main suspect in his death being given diplomatic immunity and secure loss' married to a u.s. Intelligence official she left the u.k. After the crash in which the 19 year old was killed in August President Trump has approved sanctions on Turkey to try to get it to halt its military assault on Kurdish forces in Syria he says he will destroy the Turkish economy unless the country agrees to a cease fire a British couple say they've been detained in America with their 3 month old son after accidentally crossing the border from Canada David Connors and his wife Eileen say they've been held in filthy conditions the u.s. Government the noise they've been mistreated and extinction rebellion say it's an outrage their protests have been banned from the streets of London police have been tearing activists from Trafalgar Square overnight the demonstration started last Monday more than 1400 people have been arrested now let's start this morning with the grim events Simbo Garia last night the you may well have been watching on the telly you may well have been following on 5 Live in England's Euro 2020 qualifier was stopped twice because of racist abuse from bogus area supporters a particular section of Vogue area supporters there were monkey chants there were Nazi salutes it was deeply unpleasant Whew just talk us through what happened if you yes all witnessed as you say by those who could hear it's on the radio and those who could see it on the television and because it was quite so obvious and certainly to those players who are being subjected to that racist to peace they raised it as early as the 22nd minute Tyrone Meng's was the 1st player who we understand heard it and made comment to the 4th. Vishal and Gareth Southgate invoked this you wife a protocol this 3 step you a for protocol the will step is to bring it to the attention of the match officials and the way for delegates which Gareth Southgate did there was then a p a an ounce meant a jury in which the stadium was told that the match could be suspended and indeed abandoned if races chanting was had to continue then there was a 2nd stoppage just before half time when normally the players would begin to give an opportunity to go off the pitch for a period of time before then returning following a 2nd announcement by the p.f.a. It was that moment they got Southgate and Harry came decided on behalf of the England team they would stay on because it was only just a matter of minutes before half time the 3rd incident would have then invoked a potential abandonment of the game but because the England players and management staff had the opportunity to speak during half time they decided that they wanted to stay on the field yet the rest of the do you think if that 2nd and you know if there'd been a different timeline and the 2nd incident had happened 10 minutes earlier I mean it's all hypothetical but you do think there would have been a much greater likelihood that England and the players would have left yes a number of circumstances could have been different you're absolutely right England could not have been winning at that point by 4 goals to nil they might have been losing the might have been nil nil the game might have been more of a contest but yes that there is a chance that because of that 2nd instance being just before half time that allowed to England to come together and make a decision that affected the rest of the game there were.
