The f. B. I. Is analyzing the data inside the iphone of one of the San Bernardino shooters. Investigators say they were able to unlock the phone without help from apple. The Justice Department is now dropping its case against the company. Jacob ward has more from san francisco. This is the end of a long and bitter court battle. Over the last few weeks, weve seen apple and the f. B. I. Posturing, filing hundreds of pages of document, the f. B. I. Saying it has in fact accessed say yesterday farooks iphone and does not need the companies assistance. The idea here is basically a technical observers have suggested that this is probably a matter of having copped the contents of the flash memory of the phone and rewriting it back in, like loading a saved video game when you get to a part thats just too hard, you keep dying, you just reload that point you wanted to be at. Its some sort of concept like that. To security analysts, this is not good news. Its, you know, a sign that the government has in fact figured out how to do something that apple otherwise was supposedly the only institution that could do, and so the security vulnerability of that phone, shakes peoples confidence in a way. This is not the end of this court battle or any court battle around this kind of issue. There are at least a half dozen other cases according to unsealed Court Documents in which the Justice Department is in some way applying to apple for help in unlocking an ire phone being used as evidence in a case of some sort, as an investigative avenue. So this phone was one of the last sort of vulnerable phones. It was put out in the software that was on it released just before apple had wildly upgreat its security regime such that even if the company that created the product cannot break into the phone once its out in the wild, but the phone that i carry, probably you carry are vastly improves in terms of security, so apple is going to need sorry, the f. B. I. Or anyone applying to apple for help with this is definitely going to need the Companies Help to break into any newer phone. Even hope toette court case ended in this way, its undoubtedly the case that we are going to see more court cases coming up in the future winning exact argument and that is why both apple and the f. B. I. Argue that lawmakers need to step in and figure out what rules we should live by when it comes to this tension between private and security. Apples c. E. O. Parts of nevada could see more snow after getting buried under more than a foot of the stuff. The spring storm left roads slick in reno monday leading to dozens of accidents. Some parts of that city got more snow than the mountains. There were a dozen cancellations at the reno tahoe airport due to poor visibility. Blizzard warnings are up in the west as the storm system moves through. Lets bring in Nicole Mitchell for more on that. Kind of unusual to see that kind of snow in reno. This quantity at this point of the season. This one is definitely packing a punch. Heres that broad system, yes, nevada is getting more of that snow today, different areas, but this spreads all the way now to snow up as far north at man to know in a through colorado. Showers build up ahead of this, showers and storms, another component of this. Before i get the wide view, the system is clearing in the northeast but still wind behind that through this afternoon. This is our big player. Theres high winds with this, the jetstream is really carving out a trough. Those are the upper level winds and another finger of that, theyre kind of causing a Pressure Gradient thats so strong, it cranks the winds 5060 miles an hour, not out of the question and because of that, plus the snow, heavy at times, thats why we do have pores was wyoming under the blizzard warning. Could see a foot of snow, plus blowing and restricting the visibility and even if youre outside of the blizzard warning, widespread areas under the winter storm warnings for those elements. Ahead of this with the winds, we have fire danger, nevada into the accident today. Thats not like where it looks like this rain is going to develop also all of this gets going through the next 24 hours. This is through tomorrow at this time and continues to spread from there. Taking a look at that kind of frame by frame, weve got moisture spry into the midwest. By tomorrow, we see more in the south. Some could be places that had heavy rain, so flood concerns are back up in the forecast and that starts the Severe Weather that shifts into the gulf coast thursday while more weather itself goes up and down the coastline. Tomorrows forecast, heres that slight risk area, but this is the time of year that risk means wind, hail, possibly even some isolated tornadoes, so weve got definitely a wintery side, and more of the spring side that we see more typically this time of year. Definitely more than just spring showers this time around. Nicole mitchell, thank you. The backlash over a North Carolina law critics say goes after lgbt people.
