I think a lot of people in turkey are at a point where they would like to sit down and have a rational open discussion with armenians and start the reconciliation process. What about president erdogan . I know he has gone further than any other leader of turkey and he offered condolences to armenians because of the events of 100 years ago. But just yesterday he gave a fiery speech denying that there was a genocide. We have to pus put this into context. President erdogan has gone further as you pointed out than any other turkish leader in trying to reach out and softening the language the turkish got has used regarding the 1915 situation. How about the west, a couple of dozen countries have called what happened a genocide, the u. S. And the u. K most of the world has not. We just heard in a piece how president obama promised to call it a genocide during his First Campaign but then shied away from it as president. Why is the United States shying away from calling what happened a genocide . You know i think it really comes down to turkeys own issues with grappling with the events of 1915. I mean you know for a long time the turkish government has controlled the narrative on this. A lot of turks in turkey are eager to actually rehash what happened. And find out the truth. I think a lot of turks dont actually know what the reality of what happened in 1915 was. They have been spoonfed the history and i think its important for not only to sit down with the armenians but i think its important for turks to actually understand and come to terms with that. I think that, you know, this focus of this one word is diluting a situation where i think turks and armenians when they come together they really have a common bond and they have a common and shared history. And i think there is a basis where they can come and they can have an open discussion about things. This is still hurting armenia today, turkey being its most important neighbor and as you said its land locked so it really needs to trade with the countries that are around it. Absolutely. And i think that you know we have to think as much as i think it is very important to think about the past and to rehash the history i also think its important to think about the armenians today and think about what the future generations hold. And in creating those economic ties is profoundly important for armenians now. A lot of young armenians leave armenian because there arent those opportunities.
