In San Bernardino, california, in the last several days, it has become commonplace to hear that there is a problem inside of islam, with muslims, and the crime scene is deep thing that conviction. It is clear that the two of them had gone down the dark path of radicalization, calling for islam. But obviously, hes playing on people who are not very well versed on foreign policies, especially in South Carolina. In north carolina, this year, we had three young Muslim Students shot to death because of the hateful ideology and the big on bigotry against Muslim Americans, and similarly, what happened last week in San Bernardino, one of them was born and raised here, being radicalized and going against his own coworkers, both stem from extremism. One was christian, and one was muslim. And we need to tart the extremist elements of both. S, of assailants, the problem coming from one source, even if theyre smart enough and sophisticated enough to say, oh, i realize its not all muslims, but it seems like a lot of the ones doing it are muslims. How do you piece that apart in a way that makes sense. First of all, thanks for having me, and i think that the way to answer that is to try to explain whats happening. There are different areas, theres the islamist nothing wrong, and the violence in the world. And there are the cautious civillingizations, and what we have instead are years and years of bad ideas and failed policies that have led us to this junker. Some of the fault obviously lies in the muslim communities and countries, and in the western communities and countries. We talk about the radical itization of muslims, and the Republican Party has been self radicalizing for years. It has been taken over by the extremists. Were not yet beholden to my Donald Trumps or ben carsons. Openly callerring for killing the terrorists, which is a war crime. And it doesnt mean that islamic extremism isnt a dangerous problem and needs to be confronted on many levels, but the unfortunate reality is we ended up in this position because we failed to talk to each other and understand other, and pursued policies without considering the consequences. It means responsibilities for the muslim communities, and at the political level. Unfortunately, in president obamas speech, we didnt really hear any sense of what he wants to do about this, beyond telling us what hes already doing, which i think for most people clearly is not working. Its not that easy. But i am a supporter of gun rights, but i think that it needs to be limbed and governed and monitored. And we need to come up with creative solutions, because people becoming radicalized should not have access to weapons and ranges. And we need to see why there are so many Mass Shootings in the u. S. But harum, how do we know who the next person 1 . Is . There are things that we can do, correct gun control is a step. And law enforcement, getting gettinggauged and stagel involved. But there are things that muslims can do. From now on. Moving forward, we can change the way in which we change the leadership and getting muslims to be involved in the societies. First of all, teaching them about the pluralism misdemeanors and outside of the tradition. And teaching them to channel their fears. So if a young man or woman is upset about palestine or what theyre seeing in syria, were citizens of the United States, and we have the ability to be involved. And we need to it model forms of engagement, saying that you can move forward. And finally, to couple that with the extremism is not just morally vile, but its strategically selfdefeating. What are they accomplishing for the muslim world . More it death, more destruction, and the people are less free than before. And its worse. The extremists have basically offered the only narratives. And we need to say that theyre wrong and we have better narratives. The idea that a continent sized country of more than 300 Million People has been brought to its knees by two murderers, shows the power and the logic behind terror attacks. Theyre meant to sow fear and suspicion, and pushing an opponent to lash out. Its not clear how barring muslims from the United States could work, and its clear that it would never really happen. But the suggestion should have Muslim Americans thinking deeply about the lives they lead and their future in this country. So you say, well this doesnt have anything directly to do with me. But i still feelle called upon in some sense to explain something to somebody, and what . Well, listening to my colleagues here, theyre exemptfying in some ways that america has had a hunger for voices about islam that are about reform, and own us and want to take responsibility. But yet im hearing about gun control and shootings. The bottom line, muslims may only be 1 of the population, but to that carpenter and engineer, we just signed a muslim reform, that starts with large movements in arabic, these islamic movements, muslim brotherhood, and haram, and saudi arabia, hundreds of millions of people are moving movements that are separatist and antiwestern and antisemitic. And until we start countering that, our declaration that says we believe against any jihad, we reject all califate states, and muslims that dont believe this these and are willing to condemn islamism are part of the problem. You signed the declaration, and it completely comports with american values, and next week, and the week after, and the week after that, there will be americans quoted in papers, and youll see them speaking on television, and they will say how come muslims are not speaking out against this kind of thing . Does it make you a little crazy . You think you are, and you think that all of other signatories to this declaration are. We need to take that declaration to the mosque. We talk it to the mosque owned by the saudis, and we took it to the mosque in northern virginia, and they it sort of rip today off. And we want to know who is working for solutions against that separatist ideology against islamism, and who is working for slugs. Solutions. The bottom line, i would tell awful your viewers, and your muslim friends what they believe about this declaration of the muslim movement. Because radicalization is not just the last moments when they start getting weapons and become operationallized. We have very little time left. And i want to hear final comments by you both if thats enough, or if theres already a narrative in place that muslims arent doing enough that are imperious to suggesting. Were americans and we dont need to write that down to know who we are. I agree with that. And this is the first time that im hearing about his declaration, but i recommend mailing out a copy of it to the 2200 plus mosques around the United States, but we have a lot of work to do in terms of defending our communities and our religion in this country. Its under attack from all sides, and unless a lot of responsibility. When you step up and take responsibility. And there will be those americans who say you arent doing anything. And is it frustrating . Yes, very frustrating. As a republican, its very frustrating.
