hi there, i'm can banal, this is the news ally from dell hall coming up in the next 60 minutes a solemn independence day in ukraine as the war against russia completes 6 months. iran accuses israel laws trying to sabotage talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal. a course in thailand roles the prime minister can no longer stay in office last. i'm bernard smith on the cost of o serbia border where a row of a car number plates has become a new flash point between the 2 sons. not his full serena williams, the steps of her preparations for what could be the final tournaments of her career . the 23 on grand slam champion has been practicing at the all thrush stadium ahead of the upcoming u. s. r. ukrainians are holding muted celebrations to mock 31 years of independence from soviet will. mass gatherings have been banned in the capital key if and curfews imposed in some cities. president vladimir lansky has warned any russian attack would be met with a powerful response. wednesday mark 6 months since the beginning of the russian invasion that's killed thousands of people and displaced millions. now much lower your car will not. you only care about our randomly, we will fight for it until began lamb, which we have been holding strong for 6 months. it's tough, but we have quenched our 1st i am and we are fighting for our destiny every new day as a reason not to give out. after such a long journey, we do not have the right not to go on to leanne it. what is the end of the war for us? and we used to say peace, now we say victory or whatever. we will not seek an understanding of the terrorists . well, there is about as i for us now in keith theresa, we can see a few people there behind you taking photos and things. what's the mood there today? well, for many ukrainians here, we're in the centre off. keep not her away from independence square or it's, it's a day for remembrance, mostly i mean of remembering and thinking of those who died of those who were injured. we have seen many people here coming soldiers who have been injured in different battles coming here to, to pace to a respect to an invoice that is not far away from where i am. that's input for those who have been killed in this conflict. so i'm to, to talk about what's been going on in this country is joining me live now as she le plane. he's from the international committee of the red cross, his hearing key with me. so, so you know, what is the humanitarian situation right now in different parts of the country? we see that people here are walking around, but we know there's a completely different story on the front lines. yeah, in the past 6 months, we're seen all around ukraine as a result of this conflict, tremendous amount of suffering of physical suffering, of also mental suffering. a population that is traumatized. we seen, you know, critical infrastructure damaged or destroyed, including water infrastructure, also, health facilities. also educational facilities. so in some of the most conflict reflected air and or areas, some really basic goods are very hard to come by, including food, including water. and you know, we've seen for example, hospitals that simply don't have enough supplies to save lives. up those, i mean, joker concern right now for the ukrainian government or prisoners of war. i mean, how much access have you had to find out what's happening to those, you know, who are being held by russian forces. we know that a trial is coming up of those, sir, from the as of battalion in the city of variable, what can you tell us about what's been going on with prisoners of war? so we're constantly talking to the. busy police to the conflict and remind them of their legal obligations to inform us of the whereabouts of prisoners of war that they hold. so we're constantly asking for access, and we know when we talk to families of prisoners of war here in ukraine, that there's thousands of families that desperately need news of their loved ones. some of them have been without news for month and you know, they don't even know if their loved ones are even alive. so far we are, we have been able to provide 3000 families with answers, but we know that there are so many more that deserve answers and that's why we will continue asking access to places were prisoners of war, a health one last question. now 6 months on, you know, how, how do you see this war playing out in the next few months? well, no one knows how the conflict will evolve. but what we do know is that its consequences, it's your manager and consequences will be here for the next month in years. so that's why 6 months ago, the red cross was here on the ground with people with her local volunteers to help them, you know, providing food to people on the move, helping them cross borders. and 6 months in the needs may have change, but we're still here and we will be here in the future to help people that have been affected by this conflict. thank you very much. so that the situation here on the ground of what we're seeing on what people hear humanitarian workers are seeing on the front lines of this country. but let's not forget that right now. all major cities here in ukraine are on high alert. president zalinski said that a vladimir putin was planning, vicious attacks against this country. we have already heard the sirens, the air 8 signers got on at least 3 times. and even though you see people here taking pictures and walking, everyone knows that something could change very easily in the, in the next hour or so or so, because you know, there, there is a threat intelligence agencies have said that that there is a, an increase threat of a russians try can in big cities in this country. so more suddenly, every view, everyone here knows that that's, you know, something could change a very soon after his mom are there for us. and keith, thank you. u. s military says is carried out a strike near the syrian city of theirs, or it says it targeted facilities used by groups affiliated with around revolution regard. the us central command says the strikes were to protect its forces from attacks carried out by iranian backed groups. and iran says, israel is trying to sabotage progress and reviving the 2015 nuclear deal. the head of iran's nuclear energy organization says israel has stage, days of psychological warfare. this follows us media reports that iran has dropped some key demand from the deal allegations to rob has denied those barriers lie for us. interact, dorsey, tell us more about these accusations coming out from the wrong well, we've been hearing from the had a bronze at home energy organisation. mohammed s law me who following the weekly cabinet meeting on wednesday morning and made those comments. and he basically, i insinuated that all the ongoing negotiations that have been taking place or not really to the likings of these railey governments. they don't want to see this deal happen. of course, this is something that the iranians say is not new. they are currently in the process of dealing with investigations about safeguard issues. with the u. one nuclear watchdog, the i. e. a who has had a safeguard investigation open for 3 years now about 3 sites that are not part of ron's nuclear declared nuclear program. and they said they found a suspicious activity that they want answers and the radians have said that we've answered those questions and those sites are not nuclear sites. therefore they're not open for an inspection by the i. e. e. under the 2015 nuclear agreement for is part that the had a bronze atomic energy organisation has said that all this pressure that has been put on the rain in government, a visa v. the signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal is as a result of israel's doing, he had further comments to make on the issue. let's listening to what he said. santa terrible children by the draw. the joint comprehensive plan of action was the result of use of negotiations. the final agreement was meant to end all allegations under the deal iran except to restrict his nuclear program. and he brought access to inspectors from the international atomic energy agency to help in order to restore trussel, which is under the same time all sanctions imposed under the pretext of the nuclear allegations were supposed to be lifted. as of now, a criminal regime which has a legal nuclear activities and doesn't give access to the i has stage psychological operations against the rama over the past few days. we don't expect from cia to can its demands and it's not acceptable for it to do so. sure. and also where i think that now in terms of discussions around returning to the nuclear deal, well as the europeans have had a final text drawn up about 20 pages or so that would be sort of like an amendment to the 2015 nuclear deal that would see all parties return to implementation full implementation. after a certain period of time, the iranians have sent their response to the europeans last week. they are now waiting for the americans to do the same. we expect in the coming days to hear from the american side about what they think about the final text. as far as we understand this, these are the final stages of these talks that began in april of 2021. after the united states withdrew from the deal in 2018 and impose the series of new sanctions on iran. iran since then has really advanced the nuclear program and stop complying with the agreements from 2015. so what they're trying to do now is bring everybody back to full implementation of that deal and we're not waiting for the americans to come back with a response to what the uranium said. as far as we understand that we are in the final stretch, whether or not we able to bridge the gaps that still remained between all sides remains to be seen. but it is certain now that according to officials, at least from tara, they are closer than they've ever been to returning to the 2015 nuclear deal. jabbar there for us and to ron. thank you. can you levy is a column, is that horrid? see joins us now live from tel aviv. mr. lee, the israel doesn't want the steel to go ahead at all to be returned to. why is that not entirely, by the way, the government and securing establishment. there's more than one view. the official view is against the agreement because they don't believe in agreements and doesn't believe in iraq. but there are more and more voices including inside. they did engines, and the security establishment realize that the agreement, these, the best deal can be reached. i mean is, i know many israelis to see the states both being those facilities and israeli says hopefully we'll try. and then the best thing is to get another another deal. i must stated that there was a dollar from day for my agreement. was a major mistake and now we've begun pride's. yeah, i wanted to ask you about that about sort of lawmakers who don't tow the official government line when it comes to, whether this around nuclear deal should be returned to. so they believe then that the iran nuclear deal may in fact be in israel's best interests. why do they hold that view? look, it's legal phase. is that feeling that the iran wouldn't cheat the oil? and maybe there's some base, but there is no voltage guarantee that the run would never get. and you hear weapons including, by the way, sort of military operation. you really think that the mediator operation would guarantee iran, the a for you and your weapons. noah campbell's point for what it can also make it more ambitious to get it. by the end of the day, we have to learn to leave with these free energy to try to monitor around as much as possible and try to minimize the danger. but not to go to any crazy plans which might be much more dangerous. by the way, how much pressure can israel really exert? i'm talking about the israeli government, how much pressure can exit on european powers. and the us of the issue is that he's doing anything, both the land to put pressure, both on the right that states and on europe. it has to reasons to want to ration while he's really to try to prevent the router from getting the nuclear weapon, which is a re in fear here. but in the same time, one cannot ignore the fact that while dealing with iran, israel makes the words forget, these are the occupation. once we speaking about the rod, we don't speak about them by this thing. and this is for the benefit of israel. ready and this shouldn't happen. very good point. i will leave it there for now. can you leave that call, mr. har at. thank you. thank you. i to my head on the news are including polls open across and goler with rising inflation and the cost of living heavy on post mice still living as refugees. 5 years after they fled their homeland. we report on the challenges facing the working at community costs in sports, one of baseball's, most troubling franchises, goes up for sale, andes, here with that storage. ah, of course in thailand has suspended prime minister prior channel check from official duty while a review of his term limits is completed. or you took power in a qu, in 2014. critics say he's reached the maximum limit of 8 years in office. it's feared the legal showdown could trigger a new political crisis with national elections due in the middle of next year. tony chang joins me now. live from bank hawk. tony. where does this leave things for prof. channel to well, effectively he's now out of the picture, although things are not quite as simple as that. he still entitled to carry out his rolls in the cabinet because he also holds the, the position of defense minister. so he'll still be going to cabinet ministers. many meetings you'll still be going to government house, the role of a temporary prime minister's, being taken by his 2nd in command, a pro at wong swan. his been in the cabinet as long as a general prayer and faith. he is also considered to be one of the main architects of that 2014 qx in which general prior came to power. so it's not as if we're going to see a huge change in faces in government policy. these are essentially going to be the same. people, but it does reflect, i think, a certain amount of herb discomfort in the main ruling coalition. we've so seen general prayer looking rather isolated, particularly after mass street demonstrations in 2020. that said, i think we are still waiting for the constitutional court to make its final decision, which they say will happen by the end of september. so he's benched for the moment based. certainly not out of the picture. tony, once the security situation been like they're on the streets as security forces, expecting any unrest. they were certainly in fate. over the last 48 hours, we saw a government house surrounded with a ring of steel as it has been when protests of hip, the streets. and in recent times, they put out these huge shipping containers which have been painted gray across all the main roads. this morning when we went out, we saw riot police and full body armor helmets shot guns, which they say were armed with rubber, bullets only. but they were there on very high alert. but within a unit, an hour of this court decision coming out, they were back out just in their plain fatigues with soft berries on certainly as they seemed to have climbed down in terms of the tension, the protest us who had been on the streets and we saw protests last night taking place more taking place to day, but they certainly hadn't been of the kind of numbers we've seen in recent years. i think there is a certain amount of protest fatigue here. it's well known that the general populace, i think, is unhappy with general priority and this government, they've seen a misfiring on several major issues, the economy, the handling of the coven, situate the increasing inflation crisis. we're seeing here in thailand, but they're also, i think they've seen bangkok frozen on several occasions. the last decade by street protests that of the effectively achieved nothing. think when you speak to most people now what they're really hoping for is that general election? i think that's when they hope they can make a change at the ballot box. i tony chang in bangkok. thank you. let's bring entity, paul backdate, one each. he is a political scientist at sylvan rather chatham county university. he joins us now by assume from of on that right chair attorney, i thank you very much for your time. i want to start with your analysis if you word of what this means for proud sandwiches, political future. thank you for helping me. but when we look at decision today, i think is this not the end is really do. i think it's a ha, this is jessica strategic decision of the lead to down political climate in the country. and also to do you with the protest on the straightest well they don't want it to rest on it. and i think it is it's, it's not the end of the scripture. and we would have to really to wait and see the final result of the usage general failed, took power, as we've been saying in a coup, with these discussions about his term limit ongoing. what do you think the democratic future of thailand looks like now? oh, i don't thing desousa high up. all of it is, it is yes because we haven't been seeing a lot of protests against this our government and but i, what i would anticipate when we look at the current situation of on demand, assuming it pro democracy is demanding for him to come up. but we have to bring him down and in the past 4 years in it, i mean nothing has been much. i think they still have the ability to control it. and so what i would say from here, i think you can stabilize the patient and then we received election in the next year as okay. and as we've been saying, we're still waiting, we're he still waiting on final court rolling. what do you think is likely to happen next? will parliament speed is all? oh, i don't think that would be the case because the but it was just approved last night . and then this is tom with both a joke which isn't antique, when parties are trying to reduce the budget to mobilize technologies. so i think is it fine of it before is election. so the dissolution of parliament is not an option for or i, i don't think that we're going to do that and they would just wanted, try this to used it's period to mobilize type of lighting through the spending of a jet. how did people feel? generally, people on the streets that pay a penalty has ruled ah, is it i can't pass be frank for integrity. the voices from our side and co, not if one is i she very happy with him and explain to young. and to some extent, i think now you know like to put a pod, he has been on campaign finance like i think we can reach that ticket by have by happy to charge because young generation has been for arrange a shot on a facebook. so then they are not very happy with your child or now since each, each to power off that it went to $1014.00. so when we look at him in him, his popular it is of course young people who are his supporters, but we still have some support. he was like, oh, generated benefit positive like the financial support or early in the country wishy washy groups. but of course i don't think that would actually have a significant impact in the future in the next election that we have next year or and i thank you very much for your time to see paul that they won each we had it. ok, thank you. and ethiopia, troops have attacked forces in the northern to gray region for apparently violating a ceasefire from earlier this year. this is just the latest and a long ongoing war between the capital and fighters integrate. just to remind you, it all started in november 2020. when prime minister arby appeared, ordered a military offensive against the to gripe people's liberation front. he said it was in response to attacks on army basis. a t p i left says it was unfairly targeted. since then the u. n. has condemned both sides, softer, they were accused of committing war crimes. to date, more than 2600000 people have been forced to flee. the violence was an you'll get a to is a journalist and joins us now from the capital at isabella. so what do we know then about this latest attack? by if huge ethiopian troops overnight against the t p. other forces? well the, she'll be on a communications office, just sent a press release and i'm hike accusing the other side of really starting this conflict once again in an area called co. busy and in the outskirts of cobol, which is at the border between omaha and to gray, the to gray side, through it spokesperson, get her to read, tweeted, accusing the other side. so this is a catch $22.00, but this is going to escalate a conflict. i've begun 2 years to go affecting millions of heath your bands by some estimate up to 500000 ethiopians have been killed as a result. 3 and this is, this was supposed to be a time when both sides were supposed to engage in a way through trying to end this conflict. but this is going to really affect the trust, the confidence, the respect, each one we're supposed to have in terms of compromising and, and ending this conflict. absolutely. what is the humanitarian situation like there? now we heard from the head of the world health organization a few days ago and said it's becoming a forgotten crisis. well, you know, it's in competition with what's happening in the ukraine, but the un through the world food organization, w. p program is saying that up to 50 percent of the population and tegra are 80 seeing extreme short they do food. and it's all, it's also happening in and not far where millions of ethiopian have been need of some kind of support. the un has been asking for some kind of corridor to be able to deliver some of this food aid that's been coming from abroad. the ukraine there was supposed to be a shipment of grain coming to fuel. but the w. p has removed some of the stuff from the somali region, fearing that a conflict of not just into guide, but then other parts of the country is rina facing its oppression. but the children payments are assisting you feel that it would be in a position to feed itself within a year even to export to other never, never in countries. so the information we're getting from all sides really contradict each other. alright, we'll leave it there. thank you. for your time, sam, get it you their journalists, 22 from the sum of all on thursday row, hank refugees will mock the 5th anniversary psychological warfare to sabotage progress and reviving the 2015 nuclear deal. it follows us media reports that to ron has dropped some major demands from the deal allegations. it denies a course in thailand has suspended prime minister pro channel chip, while a review of his term limits is completed prior to power and acute in 2014. critics say he's reached the maximum limit of 8 years in office. a government inquiry in south korea has confirmed the years of large scale abuse at a state to run detention facility in the 19 seventies and eighties. tens of thousands of adults and children considered to be vagrants, were locked off at the home in the southern port. city of san mcbride reports from soul for many of the victims who were children when they were incarcerated at brothers catalogue of reported abuse. whether he is confirmed to the ways tedious human rights violations, such as forced labor abuse debts and disappearances by forcibly detaining vog rinse with involvement of authorities that directly or indirectly supported by the south korean government. the detention center operated in the 19 seventy's and eighty's with the goal of removing so called vagrants from the streets ahead of the 1988 summer olympics. but thousands of adults and children were rounded up arbitrarily and subjected to harsh treatment before meet your investigations into the family run multiple government bodies who have the government should apologize to the victims and make a promise to the public. we hope that history takes note, and this never happens again. among the most vulnerable members of south korean society, the victims of the notorious center say their suffering has gone largely overlooked for years. and that it's only now their country is coming to terms with their plight that they might to finally see justice. rob mcbride al jazeera, so augustine is prime minister has met katara is a mere during a 2 day visit. the country shamile sharif is seeking long term investments as his country struggles with a severe economic crisis. some have been to aid is live for us in doha. so some a tell us more about want st. pakistan's prime minister is hoping to get out of this well, we've been speaking to the prime minister and his entourage or in the last a few hours in and yesterday as well as they came in. they met business leaders that met the people from the country, investment authority, the ministry of finance, the prime minister. the idea is that is high power delegation and wants to go back with at least $2000000000.00 worth of long term investments and contracts. i have been speaking to various officials who signed multi 1000000 dollar contracts with various aspects initiation in ports, in hospitality and other other areas. so what they've made very clear is that they're not essentially looking for aid, but for investment, what they want is a partnership, a robust partnership, which allows bikes, tiny firms to partner with country funds, to try and enhance the countries financial situation. because as you mentioned earlier, that the situation is quite dire. bike sand is looking for $1200000000.00 from the international monetary fund. the prices of every day, items are very high, inflation has stored energy. prices have soared. and this government, which came out in just a few months ago, is struggling to keep its momentum, saying that it is, it has inherited a terrible state of the economy and is trying to do all it can to resurrect it. i found you spoken to the pakistani prime minister about the political situation in his homeland wattsey been telling you where my question to the whole the negation was. that if you're looking for us economic stability, it can not come without political stability. and that is something that we've seen, at least in the last few weeks or in the run up to this visit that there have been cases leveled against her political leaders, including embrun, honda, more popular opposition leader in the country. we've seen a journalist being rounded up and their defense is that this is between the people who be charged and arrested and the courts of pakistan. one minister told me that in previous terms, a people were arrested, rounded up, their leaders of their party were tortured. but this is not the route that they want to go down with, but if there are political leaders, including him on hon, who are going to incite the public, who are willing to make statements against the judiciary, against the armed forces, against bureaucrats and police. they will have to face at the blunt end of the law, but it does go to sure that the politics in pakistan's remains divided. the bob and a leader in ron khan, who was ousted by the parliament, is in the streets. he wants to have early elections and what these people who are in charge a coalition of the pakistan democratic movement multiple political body says that elections will be held on their time. the 1st priority on their minds is to get that country back on an economic track where it does not default and the people of by the fun can finally get some relief after these harsh decisions where people who have to tighten their belts summer into aid here and tell how thank you. work is are striking across south africa. they're angry because the rising cost of living and unemployment for me to me let joins us live from toria made or what's happening there where you are. ah, well we have at least 2000 protesters affiliated with various unions have come out . c in pretoria and they're marching towards the seat of government, the union buildings where they want to hand over a memorandum to the government around the high cost of living. as i mentioned, they are a number of unions or number of issues that they want to address. but the common theme really amongst these unions is just the high cost of living and how the working class specifically are struggling to survive in these economic conditions. we know that the rates of inflation is at the highest speed in 13 years and that staples foodstuffs, that many people rely on. i've gone up by 10 percent of the last year alone. and so they're having a difficult time surviving. and that's given the period that they went through during the cobra. 19 pandemic, whether a number of restrictions, thousands of jobs were lost and the economic conditions just haven't improved since then. one of the, one of the other issues is south africa's been plagued by rolling blackouts. so every has been plagued by rolling blackouts. so not only do they want the cost of electricity specifically to be addressed, but they also want a stable electricity supply. now the number of people we see today go down all the way down the throats you pretoria, making their way through the city to the union voting. they've been marching for about an hour, and we expect them to congregate at the unit buildings any time in the coming hour . so for me to how powerful are these unions collectively and what's the government's response likely to be ah, well, the governing african national congress isn't a bit of a typical situation because it's part of a tripartite alliance. along with bizarre to add these old african communist party, they very much rely on the votes and the, the support of a party of various parties, their ccp. but also these unions. and they know that they can't, they can't really afford to alienate unions like these. but the unions do have a lot of bargaining power. that's been one of the concerns of from the government. so it wouldn't be difficult for the agency to ignore a protest like this. even though some of the unions have said that the number of people that are expected to come out isn't as high as that anticipated. because there are issues around transportation, people affording that, having the ability to get nonetheless they say that they want people to stay at home. their plan was for a national shut down, even if people didn't make their way to the streets today. so the government would have a hard time ignoring a march by this many protesters. i'd try to placate many people by example, putting in a benefit for people who don't have jobs. that was especially drink quote, but, but that's been the $20.00 a month. and so people here are saying they want a minimum wage implemented that would be even less than a $100.00 a month. and so they waiting for a response from the government around that. and many other issues are estimated miller, they're in pretoria. thank you. boating is underway and angola and what's expected to be its closest election and decades. the ruling policy of president john lorenzo is aiming to extend its 47 years and power of frustration at rising poverty, and inflation is fueling a strong challenge from the opposition coalition. 8 political parties are contesting the votes. the front runner is the governing peoples movement for the liberation of angola, or m. p l 8. it's led by the current president. his main rival is alberto acosta. junior. he leads unita. that's the national union for the total independence of angola. costa is seeking a mandate to reduce poverty and tackle corruption. he says the countries, oil wealth has mainly benefited it's a lease. while the 2 thirds of the population are under 30 years old. some analysts say this demographic is likely to determine the election outcome. let's bring in paula christine, or oak. she is an independent analyst and the author of governing in the shadows and goal is securitized states. she joined us my resume from lisbon. thank you very much for your time. how significant is this election then and the fights being put up now by the opposition? well, this is an existential election for angola. it's the 1st time in so 2 years of your position is set to when the population wants change and their voting for change. the new president came in 5 years ago on the reform ballot, but he reformed essentially to, for his party to survive. he didn't reform for the nation to survive. and so we've seen a deterioration in living standards. poverty has, has grown exponentially. and so people are at a stage where they say, well, they have very little to lose. so the opposition that has rallied in very combative a very if ferguson, dynamic, an interesting campaign have said, well, they've had 47 years of government. now it's, it's a chance for us to govern, and we will govern differently. we will be centralized power. we will broaden the economic development opportunities to the goal and not just to the lease we will change the constitution. and we will decentralize a power that has been very much characterized by the hedge, a monic program of the ruling of delay. and i some of expressed some concerns about post election violence. what's your take as that? a real possibility? it is a real possibility. unfortunately, and we've already seen the government is very aware and they're afraid of that too . they've already set a big security apparatus on the streets. the entire lease force has been mobilized and deployed. we've seen an armored vehicles with the anti riots. police being deployed all over the capital. and i presume all over the provincial capitals of the main provinces in angola, and they've also called for stability unpredictability. they saying they, they using an old rhetoric, which they've used in the past, which has been, if the opposition wins, we will have chaos. we will have instability. angola will go back to war, which is an impossibility because the opposition has disarmed in the last 20 years . they've been a political party, not a rebel movement. and this time they saying they're using the same rhetoric. it's a securitized tragic. that mobilizes fear and threats, and posts, the opposition as a threat to national security, but they talking to an audience that didn't experience the war because the majority that a voting today are in our youths. so also the issue is the opposition and civil society and the churches have been alerted to, the irregularities that have characterized the electoral process in a run up to voting as it's happening today. and so there are many concerns that these will be rigged. elections like they have been in the past and that people won't accept the results because they're, they're expecting change. the expectation is high. and so the opposition will appeal for calm because they know if people take to the streets and they will be met with force. and live bullets, unfortunately, that's the reality of a stereotype state like angola and, but we just don't know if there will be a sense of spontaneous anger at the street level. hopefully not. we will be monitoring it, of course on al jazeera. thanks for your time, paula christina rogue. there are an independent analyst. envoys from the e. u and the u. s. a visiting cause of all and soviet to con tensions between the 2 . around of a number, plates and identity cards has become a new flash point in revelations. and it's miserables. nato's k for peacekeepers are out of their barracks and back on the streets of casa, and attempt by ethnic albanian majority kosovo, to assert its sovereignty over ethnic serbs living it's north, is risking a return to conflict. the spark is car license plates. already drivers crossing the serbia kosovo border must cover up national symbols because serbia doesn't recognize cosello's independence. now pristina says it will be issuing license plates to its ethnic syrup. citizens who still insist on using plates issued in belgrade. they the, through the plate, shouldn't change. no one can force me even if 100 armenians would come here. i will so fight, even if it means i will die, is that enough radical given? i bought a bill and i bought them, it would be for the best and the most on a solution of that for us to keep the number plates that we have and not change them. kosovo seceded from serbia in 2008, 5 percent of its population is ethnic serve and most live to the north of this bridge. emit theresa. they still take their orders from belgrade. that's despite a deal that serbia signed in brussels 10 years ago, giving up control here in return for the chance of joining the european union. the prospect of e u membership was supposed to encourage costs of owen serbia to become good neighbors. but the ear was now cooled on any sort of expansion and as a feeling here and in serbia that the prospect of full e. u. membership is now beyond the horizon. now is the graffiti supporting russia's invasion of ukraine suggests. serbian sympathies lie with moscow. the main issue is that her, when the e u is not in how the russians are getting in, every one knows that her. but serbia, it's hush not yet from been distancing itself from all the russian invasion in ukraine. russia is still very much interested in having a next font. a next font is the balkans. serbia's president alexander view church says sir politicians on civil servants could stop working in cost of institutions. if the new license plates are imposed, kosovo prime minister alvin courteous there is an escalation to a wider conflict. nato says its troops are ready to intervene. if there's a risk of violence. bernard smith, al jazeera pristina, kosovo. the former head of security at twitter says the company has no idea how many fake accounts are operating on the social media platform. peter is that co has filed a whistleblower complaint with u. s. officials in as he alleges the company misled regulate his about it. cybersecurity defenses and was negligent and trying to rule out fake accounts to say the allegations are a false narrative, riddled with inconsistencies. let's bring an arrow k, boyton. he is the cyber security and intelligence analysts. he joins us out my resume from rome. thank you for your time. what do you make of these allegations from pieces that co known by his handle of much and it's a common strategy for big internet companies to appoint a famous naming insecurity after they've suffered a serious breach. and that's, that's what twitter did in 2020, in appointing much. they appointed someone who was openly for disclosure of security problems. and so when, when he actually, when he actually a complaint internally about security problems, he will sex. and i think too, it could have expected him to go to go outside with that because it isn't the world's interest. but that we know to which extent and security and privacy at where to work well or not. there are, there are, there are governments across the world, notably india recently, and the crucible, complete saudi arabia before them who want to get in to the twitter data structures wanting to get into the twitter information in order to punish descent. for example, that the student, some i'll show up who's been deal for 34 years were thing she did on twitter by saudi arabia just last week. so this is, this is tremendously important for twitter to be seen to have goods deprived, insecurity, appointing a big expert in the area was a good sign in that respect. but it's, it's, it's backfired on them because it looks like that the expert was too honest with them more honest with them than they could. they could tolerate. i am not just about bank accounts though, is it, it's not just about span button accounts. they also that twitter is truthfulness and in some cases, even to and federal regulators. yeah, but i think, i think that's, that's, that's a very brief and difficult battle for, for federal regulators in any, any country, even in the countries. because the u. s. these, these internet companies operate on the scale that they, that it is very, very hard to monitor. and yes, the regulators will have to take it seriously if they've, if they've made promises in 2011 by 2. it's a that they would improve their security and so there's no whistle blow complain saying, no, it's not. it's not really happened to the same extent. for example, 30 percent of the of the laptops in the company have a security update switched off. yeah, i think right south doesn't it, and we'll leave it at the time. ok. boynton i, cyber security and intelligence analysts. thank you. thank you very much. bye. still had on al
