A Loudoun County man was arrested yesterday morning after he allegedly fired a gun while a law enforcement officer was approaching his vehicle during a traffic stop in the northern end of the valley.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Warren Gosnell reports that a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a car with no registration displayed on U.S Route 522 just south of Winchester.
As the deputy exited his cruiser and approached the suspect vehicle, he observed three small children in the backseat before hearing the sound of a weapon being fired.
The deputy then drew his weapon and ordered the suspect to drop his gun onto the floorboard. With more units arriving, the suspect, who was identified as Daniel Zachary Cook of Purcellville, complied and was taken into custody.
