When the loading dock doors rise at Ohio State's Schottenstein Center, in rolls something the arena was never prepared to handle until now. Historically, what flows through the floor-to-ceiling doors is gear for college athletes or performers such as the Rolling Stones. But, these days, it's thousands of doses of COVID-19 vaccines a week. Crystal Tubbs, associate director of the department of pharmacy, is there each week to meet the delivery driver and the lifesaving serum, marking the first step in a long yet seemingly efficient process to reach a patient's arm. "Either via FedEx or UPS, they arrive here to the loading dock," she says. "We want to make sure that the vaccine is secured very quickly.… It is precious cargo."
