Ever since Tones unleashed âDance Monkeyâ in May 2019, sheâs been smashing records left and right. The single went on the rule the U.K. chart for 11 weeks, a record for a solo female artist, and led the ARIA Singles Chart for 24 non-consecutive weeks, a streak unchallenged by any other artist. âDance Monkeyâ also went top 5 in the U.S., she became the inaugural leader on Billboardâs Alternative Songwriters list and Tones went to No. 1 on the Hot 100 Songwritersâ Chart. All told, it reached No. 1 in more than 30 countries and it's the most "Shazamed" song of all time. In the years prior to its release, Tones honed her craft busking in Byron Bay, a popular beach getaway in northern New South Wales. Sheâs still got love of the streets. On Monday, she delivered a surprise performance on Melbourneâs Bourke Street in support of local shops, restaurants, cafes and bars recovering from the impact of COVID-19.
