Joe Todd
Historian
With COVID-19 precautions in place, historian Joe Todd has been unable to conduct interviews with veterans. This is the third and final installment of an interview with veteran and former prisoner of war Kenneth Spence, which Todd conducted on March 15, 2007, in Pawhuska for the Eisenhower Library. The interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity.
(The interview picks up with Spence's service during the Korean War.)
Todd: How many missions did you fly in Korea?
Spence: I had over 80 missions.
T: What is a mission when you are flying with the artillery?
S: You go up and fly over the front lines along the 38th Parallel and adjust the artillery fire. A mission would last an hour.
