Laree Payne Gallery will be opening a new gallery space with a self-titled solo presentation by Whanganui-based photographer,
Tia Ranginui (Ngāti Hine Oneone). As an introduction to the artist’s practice, a selection of eight works from Ranginui’s rich back catalogue have been put together. The series documents sites of interest to the artist throughout Whanganui and the surrounding purlieus. These sites include the Whanganui Savage Club, the Whanganui awa and the interior of the artist’s marae which sees the work of her father’s hand on both the floor and the ceiling. Steeped in knowledge and connection to place, Ranginui’s works carry an undeniable charge.
