The move makes Cliffs the owner of Minorca Mine in Virginia and gives it majority ownership and the managing role of Hibbing Taconite. It also leaves just two companies behind the Iron Range's six operating iron ore mines and pellet plants: Cliffs and U.S. Steel. ArcelorMittal can now be added to the list of companies that have once mined on the Iron Range, only to be bought or bankrupt out of existence: Reserve Mining, National Steel Corp., Erie Mining Co., LTV Steel Corp., Cyprus, Laiwu Steel Co., etc.
