Ivan Melendez smashed a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lift Texas to an 8-5 win over Mississippi State and force a rematch Saturday in Omaha, Neb., with a spot in the College World Series finals on the line.
After a pitching change in the top of the ninth, the game entered into a weather delay of more than two hours.
Mississippi State tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth against Aaron Nixon and brought the tying run to the plate.
