As people across the state have struggled during the COVID pandemic, especially with getting enough food, their pets have, too.
Resident Mary Parker has been volunteering with the Pet Food Task Force, “a statewide organization and network that identifies areas within the commonwealth where low-income residents are in need of pet food, and works to provide pet food to those communities,” she said via email.
Sometimes food pantries do not have the space to offer pet food and other care items, so the task force began in March 2020 to help fill that void.
In Newton the task force, “has been able to assist people in need of pet food in the New Hyde Newton Housing Authority site,” said Parker. “In the spring we will expand into the Norumbega Gardens with a monthly pet food pantry.”
