Topics Sutton Council is planning to begin the installation of air quality sensors as part of the Breathe London project. It has announced that it will be begin the roll out at sites close to the entrances of a handful of primary schools in the borough. As part of the InnOvaTe Project – to promote the use of internet of things technology among the South London Partnership of local authorities – Sutton will combine data from the sensors with that Vivacity traffic monitoring sensors to improve the understanding of the effects of different transport modes and movement patterns on air quality. Councillor Manuel Abellan, chair of the borough’s environment and sustainable transport committee, said: “Access to more accurate real time data will provide insights of overall air quality and congestion levels in the borough, and help build clear a picture of the environment and health of our schools and communities.
