Kane Williamson and Tim Southee rallied late on Friday to keep the Northern Knights’ finals hopes alive in the Twenty20 Super Smash. The Black Caps captain finished unbeaten on 79 off 55 balls while Southee made 24 off 15 as they chased down their target of 163 to beat the Auckland Aces by three wickets with no balls to spare. Southee hit two crucial sixes in the dying overs, as well as an inside edge for four with five needed off three at Seddon Park in Hamilton, but was caught off the penultimate ball, leaving Williamson to do the honours.
