The initial 88 million payments totaling nearly $158 billion were sent by the Treasury Department last week as most of the country remains under stay-at-home orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Within a week, the next set of stimulus checks will be distributed. In many ways, the forthcoming payouts will differ from the regular stimulus payments. The most significant distinction is that the payment may not be requested by the persons who will be receiving it.
