Guwahati: The government of Assam has enforced an act to abolish all state-run madrassas, following which 620 such schools will be converted to general schools from April 1 onwards. A law to the effect was passed by the Assembly on December 30 and received Governor Jagdish Mukhi's assent.
The Assam Repealing Act 2020 was passed to abolish the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation) Act, 1995 and the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of Services of Employees and Re-Organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act, 2018.
