Ace photographer Vinay Poonekar was shot in his Raj Nagar residence on February 24 by a katta-wielding assailant, Hemant Shukla, who is still on the run. Speculated to be holed up in Nepal to evade police, Shukla remains elusive despite police efforts to track him down in north India. Shukla, a criminal well-versed in police techniques, has been evading authorities by changing SIM cards and minimizing cell phone usage. Seeking safe haven, criminals from north India often cross over to Nepal due to easier access and cheaper resources.
