Searching for PFAS in some Negaunee Township wells


The toxic chemicals are in firefighting foam used at airports.
Patrick Jacuzzo is Director of Environmental Health the Marquette County Health Department.
“There’s some training requirement and testing of equipment that’s involved with that kind of stuff, so there’s a potential that there was some environmental release but it’s not a known fact. There’s no documented release.”   
He says the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy is doing a preemptive survey to make sure there’s no contamination.
“This is all just like something that’s being preliminarily done across the state at all airports and decommissioned airports just to get a handle on the extent of potential PFAS contamination associated with those types of sites.”
