Jan Vecchio of Kingscliff reports that: “Until a few weeks ago I had never heard of southern mole crickets [
Australian Geographic describes them as ‘the platypus of the insect world’ – Granny]. The reason I have heard of them now, is that I have caught a few wandering around the tiled floor of my apartment or lying on their backs on the patio; a long way from their natural habitat. Perhaps these creatures like beachside apartment living here in sunny Kingscliff. I am wondering if others have these visitors coming into their homes unannounced. How prevalent are they?”
