Im sky now, he was in on this edition of 360 view, were going to look at the trial, the leaders of the canadian freedom comm boy, and the effect that the outcome will have on future protests against the government. Lets get started. The. The freedom convoy was the largest and most expensive anti vaccine protest in the world, gathering the attention from not only the canadian parliament, but the Ripple Effect caused a similar protest around the globe are natural correspond at roxanna, solano joins us now to bring us up to speed on the protesters who are now on trial, scotty, the 22. 00 day process, look, major roads and disrupt the beauty of some dollars worth of international trade. Well, there was an outpouring of support. The processors are now in trial to the side. If he was freedom of speech or, or lawful assembly, there were reports at one point there were 50000 vehicles outside parliament in order one. This disruptive, daily life for many, those support or schools be seen along major highways and road vice and over passes us more truckers fields into the city. I one point canadian Prime Minister and dusting to go in bulk Emergency Powers. Im getting him a lot of criticism for excessively abusing his 5 hours. Im freezing the truckers bank accounts, occupying streets, harassing people, breaking the law. This is not a peaceful protest. This is about keeping canadians safe, protecting peoples jobs, and restoring confidence in our institutions on top of this us cro funding platform goals fund me suspended access to more than 4000000 raised by freedom calling boy 2022. According to the campaigns. Bates on golf on me. The funds were suppose to cover the cost of fuel 1st and hopefully food and lodges for the holders to ease the pressure of their arduous task. You know, be to complain, are you nicer tomorrow late . Those supporters not to panic. Its really unfortunate what, what is happening here. So whats the rest as well . Prep this thing and now shes on trial. Need to increase barber, a Trucking Company owner, whered the voice of the product the services are and then they go see ations. Now both face charges me shift, obstructing police, constantly, others to come meet me. See, i mean, see me. Nation. It is within everyone, right . To speak now and stand up for freedom. And that is what our conway is about. During the trial, prosecutors pay our food at lease and barber both are through their freedom comb. Lloyd 2022 that dont use the social media page to chronicle every moment of the protest. While there was no bite inside the process. Both are facing up to 10 years in prison. Im from center, so i know for 360 view back to use. Got a very interesting roxanna. Thank you for covering to join me. Now discuss is david henry, host of the crazy to look trucking podcast. Thank you. David, for joining me. I want to start off with why do you think this freedom convoy and the protest in canada was one of the largest grassroot protests in the history of canada. What made it so popular and did this call to action work . Well, i think uh, people were sick and tired of mandates. People were tired of locked downs, tired of politicians just trying to dictate to us. And it was started like you said, a grass roots level and whether you, you know, no matter who you are or what political stripe you are, people were tired of what was going on. And they worked. They were working where they were not working, didnt matter where you are from, people are just tired. And so lot of times some things like this can be spoken out loud. But then you get a, you get a group together and their strength and numbers right . Strength the numbers because out of that protest, we now have almost 2 years later, a trial going on. The most highly publicized trial going up against camera, lynch, and chris barber. Why the 2 of them . Well, they became the leaders. They were not the leaders to start with and, and they became the face of the protest that was going on. They were the ones behind raising the money, especially tomorrow she, she was asked to, she came in later to the start of the convoy. And she was asked to help raise money. And so she took it and ran with it. And Chris Barbara was, as far as i understand, and acquaintance of hers or somebody, they started working together anyway. And they were the ones holding the purse strings, the activist and the Trucking Company owner. I have been accused of mischief, obstructing police and counseling, others to commit mischief and intimidation all when they organize their freedom convoy with truckers to shut down the streets of auto for 20 to day protests. All of us began a response to the mandatory vaccines for cross border Truck Drivers in early 2022. Now in addition to this truckers parking their rates on parliament hill, there were thousands of others who turned out on foot. Is this an accurate portrayal of what they did . There is others involved. But they were, they were the main ones because they were controlling the money and became, became the face of the protest. Are there others being held accountable or on trial for the same thing . It wasnt just the cross border stuff that was going on that have been going on for awhile already and people are just getting tired of it and it was getting tougher and tougher to survive. Economically, everybody talking bankhead and emotionally and psychologically people were suffering badly. And you know, tamara and chris were, i mean, face of the protest they were, they were the ones involved, but you can have something thats vague with only 2 people are running it. Theres definitely more people. But because they put themselves out there so much, they basically put themselves in the line of fire and i dont know how many others are going to be charged or have been charged. But there are others that were involved. Do you think this is more a political trial . Oh, absolutely. Yeah. I think, i think its absolutely. Uh, this is all politics. This is all, all about control and power. You know, it as far as like, i mean its i guess its kind of a canadian thing, i guess, to have something so big going on and so much worldwide press. And what did they get charged with mischief. Like really, i think its i think its silly if, if the Prime Minister had met with the convoy a protest organizers this past week, a lot of this may not have happened. We just simply an action on the governments part. Did you hear of any eye witness accounts of what happened to the truckers during the protest by Law Enforcement which you were considered to be criminal on their side . Uh, until the let lighter days. There wasnt a lot of trouble from Law Enforcement. Law enforcement was trying to help keep the peace a lot of them and you look back at the video and stuff that was being a broadcast. Theres a lot of Law Enforcement that was behind this. And you know, theres the odd case of Law Enforcement taking things too far, but it was very rare until the very end. And then they were then they werent wearing any badges. They werent wearing any insignia. And they were trying to go the protesters into fighting back and creating a big problem. And they were never successful at doing that. All of the protestors there was a very canadian protest. They did not fight back, there was no fatalities. Or while there was a couple of fatalities from people, but its hard to say whether it was strictly protest related or preexisting condition conditions. But by and large, Law Enforcement was not a big problem for the protesters. David 22 days is actually a long time for protest of this size. Do you feel the freedom convoy was taken over by extremist or outside agitators . Where did you actually start to hear story, the violence and the other destruction breaking out . Yeah, it was, it was taken over by i believe it was taken over by extreme us. And thats what many of us were afraid of was that it was going to devolve into something ridiculous. And there was a ton of political pressure from the Prime Ministers office and from others that were trying to insight ariah trying to make things worse. You any time you see people wearing a mask, you knew they were not part of the freedom thing. You know that it every one of them, they didnt want to be identified. They were not part of their freedom thing because that was a big thing for the freedom. Protesters was to show our face, shoulder face and the stand up for their own rights. And yeah, it, it started, theres a lot of outside forces and im, im really proud of all the protesters in that way that they did not react to those outside forces. Do you think auto a Law Enforcement was expecting this large of a crowd where they prepared. I cant speak for them, but there was that the Prime Minister was trying to tell people it was just a small french minority of people was unacceptable views. And that there is only going to be a couple of dozen people. But if anybody that was following along on the media in the chat and seeing the protest convoy a rolling from west the east, they knew this was not going to be something small. Like if they actually thought this was going to be something small . Um they, they are not any part of reality because they, there was, i mean i, i, i live but it just a few miles away from the trans canada highway. And there was vehicles passing, passing by for hours. You know, it, it was not a small a thing and im 1200 for 1400 miles away from where the protest actually happened. Thank you, david henry, stay right there. Because after the break, were going to talk about how the truckers lives have changed since the conflict. The same is possible anymore to understand western security and defense policy with rational co theories, concepts a piece is now move into the re on all the irrational, emotionally as calculus clean the theres no end in sight over how youre going to continue to destroy the earth. Is the case of the med, most of the people i tried to go to the gym, but im certainly not ready to fight russia. This is also a soon. This is the 3rd world lunacy re washing press for so the funder line likes to say we have the tools while we just start with stability and business deals to help me living on that. We have very close propaganda. You know a price here in new york. I think we dont know the aftermath any time that youre not allowed to ask questions, you should ask all of the questions. Some more questions ask a better. The answer is will be welcome back to 360 view on your house. Got it now. Hughes and we are welcoming back david henry hosted the crazy conductor trucking podcast to discuss the canadian trucker trials. David, i want to start back off with when Prime Minister adjustments for though, and both the federal emergency laws, something that had happened for 50 years was the decision excessive and unjust. Absolutely. Absolutely. Uh, unjust, absolutely. Just a political move. He was scared of what was happening because this was not, this was obviously not just a small minority of people. This was the frustration level from all walks of life and all types of people. And it was illegal. And after, after he invoked it, then there was a, there was an investigation started right away because thats part of the checks and balances. And he realized it was not going to end well for him. So you had to terminate it fairly suddenly as well. Where the truckers representing other industries which did not have the means for a public protest against covered policies. Absolutely, and this was not just people always call it a trucker con void, but it wasnt really so much. There was a lot of different people involved in that. Theres people in cars, theres people and pickup trucks. There were farmers, they were there was a vast Cross Section of people there that the trucks take up a lot of room. Or there is a whole lot more than just truck Truck Drivers there. And there was many, many people and winter to invoke is emergency act that united even more people behind the protest because they even die hard liberal saw this. And theyre just like, oh, this is not going to end. Well, well thats even the bigger question, because now we have this trial going on. And weve seen whats happening in the United States in regards to january 6th and people who are protesting. What you think the impact will be in the outcome of these trials and future protest . Thats a good question. I really hope that this protest has shown regular people, grassroots people, and people have all, all walks of life. I hope it has shown to them that this is not something to be scared of. I was not at the protest myself, but and theres things i dont agree with with a protest, but theres also a lot of things i do agree with. And its, its a, uh, its gonna be interesting to see how the trial works out because in my opinion that the charges are not a not warranted for the actions that were taken. I dont, i dont know. I dont agree with everything that tomorrow encrypted for sure. But i hope people realize that speaking your voice standing up and speaking out is something that we should continue to do and not to be afraid of. It is a canadian government treating the Trucking Industry differently since these protest happened. You know, in regards to policies, agendas, how have they handled them moving forward . I dont, i havent seen any differences in the way the government has been treating us because we are always kind of the it was pretty bad during during cove. It was really bad during all the locked downs and even though crudo had said that we are in a central service, we were not treated as such. And so there hasnt been any improvement. But i dont think its got an gotten any worse. And you know, most of us were still out there working. Uh, and like i said, theres a lot of different occupations that were out to protest. So were, were at, were in an industry right now that is taking a lot of hits. And i wish it would be, i wish the government would be more on our side. But there are some good people that are trying hard to work with us. And im thankful for that. Okay, i need to be a little bit more specific. What are some of those hits that you feel like . The Trucking Industry has taken especially post cobit and you say there some. But why is it the government working together with the truckers to fix some of those problems . Well they, they make some token shows of things, but theyre not really doing anything to change that help help the life of truckers. There are, there are some things that are being done. The parking issue is huge and not getting you any better. Um theyre, theyre working on plans that wouldnt be sufficient for maybe 30 years ago. You know, were way behind in facilities for Truck Drivers and the, the rest stops the travel centers and things like that in canada or in horrible shape. And theres no controls on them. Like why should, why should i, why should we have to deal with such unsanitary conditions . And everybody just seems to get away with it. And then, you know, were under a lot of controls as far as our hours of service and, you know, we, we would, we need to have some relief. We need to have some better fuel prices. You know, it, itd be nice to get the get the tax breaks that the railways get, but we dont get any of that, you know, and we pay for all the roads for our fuel taxes. And as you know we, we dont see any benefits of that. How do you feel the truckers of canada are treated by their government compared to countries around the world and how they treat the Trucking Industry . I only know a few other countries. So i dont know what many of them are like i think get counted in the us are fairly similar. Um i think if you look at some of the european communities and the labor rates are much stronger and some of those places and drivers arent allowed to be abused quite the same way. But i think theres always theres always room for improvement. And i, i just wish we could just get better at trading people and taking care of their Mental Health no matter what occupation theyre in. So then how much of the canadian economy is reliant upon the Trucking Industry . I percent 100 percent. Nothing happens. Nothing moves except by a truck except babies. The only thing thats not delivered by a truck is a baby. And you look at every thing, whether its cross coming off of the field. Going into a place where they can make bread or a steel co coming out of mines going into steel or whatever it is. Every thing at some point in its life is on a truck. And if their truck are shut down, i think there is a 2 and a half days that people what have or uh, before everything just goes completely haywire without the trucks, the 100 percent. W
