Im the head of the family that has lost 10 of its members, and this is not a mistake of america. This is a crime. And rushes parliamentary elections are now enterinG That 2nd day will bring you the latest on our special coverage on air and online throughout the weekend here on the international. For the meantime though, we are back with more headlines the top of the news. The news on this week show the covey numbers are m deniable, and anti vatcher sore heads are dug in. So if you liked april, youre goinG To love october. Yet, despite the Cabin Fever that erupted into all those Wal Mart shouting matches and in flight incidence, we see on you too many americans are book on staying home. Its called Cave Syndrome. Im Holland Cook in washington. This is the big picture on our t america. Ah, we jumped the gun, president biden hoped july for would be Corona Virus Independence day. If we hit the vaccination goal, which we got to a month late after 2020 Stay Cation 20. 21 vacation was inevitable. Virus variance, now plural, overwhelmed the health care system. With no, i see Use Space available in many areas. Despite the data, there are enough undaunted unvaccinated that we are told we will not reach heard immunity. How will we adjust if, as it seems increasingly likely were told, the hunker down again. And what is this Cave Syndrome thats made home sweet Home Comfort Zone . For many lets as dr. Nico Caberry Sociology Professor at the university of washington and psychotherapist, Nancy Collier, who joins us from New York city. Nico humans are social animals and europe sociologist, how are these cavers different than claustrophobic want out . Yes. So Cluster Folks are driven by a sense of fear of the outdoors, but are sorry of being caved in. But cavers arE Really finding comfort in the indoors because the outdoors now seems a lot more uncertain. Our social harmony has been disrupted. Social rules have changed. Theres a lot of, theres less integration, socially with other people. And so its really kind of not clear how were supposed to relate, and its really comfortable to stay at home where things feel a lot less uncertain and more clear. And the social Interaction Isnt as confusing in its report. Stress in america 2020, a national, mental health crisis. The american psychological association sites. Harris, pulling data that demonstrate half of american surveyed say that, unlike those bikers in south dakota, theyre on the easy about in person interaction. Even when the pandemic ends and statistically that fear is the same for those who had the job, as those who have not, nancy, is this what you are hearing from the people you counsel . I actually here in New York, i would say that people are pretty open to getting back out there. But i work with a lot of people in other parts of the country and i am hearing kind of a startling consistency in people is trust of the back thing, which is very alarminG To see the i think what happened over this last 18 months is that for a lot of people tell, overwhelmed by fear, just overwhelmed by tend to be unknown. A sense of being out of Control Attempt a lot of confusion, of not being able to get the answers that they could trust. And you know, what happens in, in human consciousness is when we have a lot of fear, it kind of bypasses the front brain, bypasses what we know and what are morE Rational brain would, can last. And we go into kind of black and white thinking, which is, you know, other people are dangerous. Other people are scary. I can avoid that by hiding in the house in the closet if, if possible. So to answer your question, i see a real split between where people seem to be in the country in New York. Its almost like, you wouldnt know. You wouldnt know that delta was so prevalent right now. Interesting, scientific american summarized an analysis of thumbs. 3000 studies on the effects of isolationism, the found exceedingly high rates, a pdf, the among people who had previously been quarantined, whether for stars frequent influenza. Solitary confinement also leads to high prevalence of p t. S. D and depression. These Trauma Related Disorders strongly suggest underlying Brain Damage. And the latest animal research shows the damage extends far beyond Hipaa Campus who becamE Really interested in installation. I was kind of drawn to increase in violence that seem to be occurring more in our Society Factor Morial zelacofsky. That is the science of fear and aggression. Really, one of the ways you get this huge increase in violence is havinG These increases in social isolation. Thats kind of a positivE Righty of species Brain Damage. Nancy, what is your advice to people watching and listening who might be getting a little too comfortable being home alone . Well, i dont know if we go as far as Brain Damage or people are goinG To become homicide. All. But i do think that people kind of lose i sense of how do we behave with other people, you know, what is normal social behavior. And a lot of my clients report feeling kind of afraid to return to regular activities. Theyre frightened by having a coffee with the not just because you know the virus, but because its almost like if we dont stay in practice, you know, how do you talk to another human being . How do you deal with normal Awkwardness Or Gaps in a conversation . Without practice, we do can take care. Whereas your shoe are kind of social isolation which further intensifies our fear and our separation. This is coming up in a lot of workplaces where people are just now returninG To work lacking in the social graces and in the current issue of consumer reports. Research by mood, media tells us that nearly half of consumers surveyed say they missed the ability to touch and try products durinG The shut down. 35 percent missed the social aspect of shopping. We know about fomo, F O M o, fear of missing out. And now theres pho, go fear of going out, nico, what is edgar of phobia . And is this Cave Syndrome that my understanding of agoraphobia is that there is this irrational fear of going outdoor, like something might happen to you that, that realistically, given the Evidence Wouldnt necessarily happen to you. But i think with capers, its less this irrational fear and more this reaction to somethinG Thats really, its kind of a normal reaction to a very normal and unusual situation. We are social creatures, we need social norms to tell us how to interact, what to do, what to decide. We are social norms, create social order for us and, and all those norms are changing. We have very different rules of engagement now and a very from region to region. I mean they even a very from friends or friend. And with that kind of uncertainty, it becomes, it feels a little morE Risky to make decisions outside of the home. It makes everything feel a little bit more difficult and yes, there is Things Id associated with uncertainty always. But as social creatures, without this Firm Kind of social, normative fabric that holds us together, thats very clear that integrates us without that. Its really hard to know what to do, what to say, and its left that rationality that thats associated with the gore phobia thats going on. Its more a very kind of almost reasonablE Reaction to very unusual situation out in the world. Clearly the new normal isnt either we are speaking with New York psychotherapist, Nancy Collier and in Seattle Professor Nico caberry, who teaches whats called Decision Science at the university of washington. Or website is your next decision Dot Com. When niko was with us here last month, she explained why people fall for conspiracy theories like those that anti vectors by into. And if you miss that show, you can find a where youll find all our shows at you tube Dot Com slash the big Picture R T in the past year. And Netflix Stock is up some 25 percent dry cleaners are distraught because we dress down for a year and a half Car Insurance Company sent rebates, the policy holders who groups so much less the dog loves it when you dont leave every day. Nancy. Then the same question, nancy, what silver linings have you spotted while weve been and stay Home Mode Question . Well, one thing, you know, what niko is saying . Im finding and its kind of a wonderful findinG That when you throw out the normal feature around, you know what were supposed to do and how were supposed to be that people are discovering something much more authentic. Theyre discovering how they want to live. Theyre discovering, oh my goodness, if i dont have to do all that, you know that ive been told i have to do. What do i want to do . Right . Cant read incredible opportunity to see whats really true for not just be shE Right if you will. And also, as i always say to you how and that to be in the present moment, you know, we have no idea less need than we normally do about whats goinG To happen in a month a week in time, minute thats forced a lot of people to be where they are gratefully. Right, right. Clearly were in uncharted waters here, nika, i got about 30 seconds, silver linings. Yeah, i have to echo echo it. Nancy says a lot of what leads us astray in our Decision Making is the undue influence that our social environment puts on us the norms that we feel compelled to follow. That may not be best for us band wagons that we hop on. Now that were indoors, werE Really paying attention to whats right for us. Think we could potentially be making better decisions, band wagons that we end up on. Maybe weve just been over achieving all along. Who knows nika, caberry Nancy Collier. Thank you for stepping into the big picture coming up. How will we do if i tobar ends up feeling a lot like last april . This is the big picture on our t america. Ah ah, ah ah. Ah ah ah, ah. The aah working machine in the back she popped in. She said, well, im getting ready to go shopping for christmas. And wE Recently there was a grim device to another, shooting another safe part of american life. Shattered by violence. The gunman was armed with an a ar 15 any automatic rifle. When the issue comes home, its time to act. When were filing on this issue, the other side wins by default, lady that lived over there, i was walking one of the dogs. Why do you wear again, were you scared . I took it off. I think the people need to takE Responsibility in their own hands and be prepared. If those kind of weapons were less available. We wouldnt have a lot of shootings and we certainly wouldnt have the number that i i what just happened and what happens next. Lets ask on the left. Progressive talker, john elliot, a voice you will remember from air america radio. And on thE Right, the Morning Mayor of Atlantic City, w, p, g radios, harry hurley, harry, 1st things 1st get us up to speed on how New Jersey is recovering from deadly hurricane. Ida, how great the on your show, a great deal with your john were hard and it on expectedly hard. Everybody thought we were just goinG To get somE Rain and probably a decent amount of rain, but it would just blow by. And then that would be that what happened was, it was a deadly event. 31 New Jersey in killed 45 nationally. Because of ida 30 want to New Jersey whenever i thought it was over. To try to process this in south jersey, we had torn natos the width of for football fields, 400 yards wide by miles long, demolished homes, demolish buildings, demolished fields. We got hit really hard, but we are New Jersey and we cant. This is the worst storm, worst death, all since superstore sandy, in 2012 with 34 people died in New Jersey. Billions of damage a long way to go. But we are New Jersey, strong, and will be ok while you are with us here in may. 2020, just as the shut down. A huge Question Mark over life, especially for iconic summer destinations like Atlantic City and coastal, new england where i live, tally it up for us now. Harry, how was summer . 2021 there alonG The boardwalk. Calling its almost suspension of disbelief because you would think that it would be a down summer people worried about the delta variance, then they start hearing about the new variant and you just dont know whats coming next. And of course, everybody was a psychology that if you, if you did your part and you were fully vaccinated, that the pandemic was over for you. Holland. I am here to report on the big picture on our t america. That Atlantic City is having a Record Summer breaking all timE RevenuE Records. Can you believe that im sayinG That and its true. It is. Its great to see a bounce back in john. Lets get an update from florida where you are throughout the pandemic. Your state has been conspicuous both in resistinG The shut down and the coven consequences. Your politically ambitious governor seems undaunted by data, and hes getting a Horse Laugh on social media, where admittedly, critics tend to out number kudos. But with Florida Coven deaths, now numbering governor, descent this electoral margin of victory. How does the Governor Play there in the state where its really interesting holland, and thanks again for having me back and hello. Right back to harry Governor Rhonda Sanchez says wE Refer to him down here. Hes bulletproof, he does what he wants and he appeals to an audience that thinks hes great. However, he is losinG That. We learned yesterday that one out of 500. 00 americans have died from cove it as a comparison in florida, 3. 00 plus 1000000 have been infected. Theyre not releasinG The number of data though. You alluded to that as a comparison in the province of ontario, with a population of 12000000 versus 22000000 here in florida. There are 585000. 00 total cases of positive coven. The deaths are marginally so. Youre looking at a tremendous difference there. You know, 17 percent of florida in ontario when it theoretically should be 50 percent. The difference is there, theres 82 percent that have had the 1st shot. 80 percent are fully vaccinated down here. Its below 50 percent, and a lot of that the De Santis is running for president Mike Pants has a goal of raising 18000000 dollars this year, which is a lot of money to start a campaign, 3. 00 or 4 years out to fantasy already has 95000000 in the bank. Hes holding a Press Conference every day. Hes governor of fox. Thats what he goes on all the time. Thats how hes building his national brand. And down here hE Really doesnt care. If he wins governor, hes assuming hes goinG To win governor next year. And thats probably true. But he has a willing audience. Florida used to be a blue state. Used to be a red state, then it was both. Now its solidly red. So he has a preponderance of a lot of the electorate in his corner. And i think theres 3 reasons have given us a lot of. Theres 3 reasons why. There is a reluctance to vaccinate. Number one is the misinformation that youve alluded to. The conspiracy Fairies Number 2 is religion. This is thE Religiosity in the south is very big and very significant and very guidinG To its flock. The 3rd reason is a total distrust of the federal government and this harkins back to the days of the civil war. The south doesnt buy, you know, you tell them the cdc says somethinG They dont care. So she says somethinG They dont care. De santis is running for governor and hes got anti and humorous anti foul G T shirts that hes selling, which is lowering it to a new level, but it appeals to the level that he has down here. So this is kind of prevalent. Hes running, hes goinG To win, and likely the state will positively and in the next election be bE Read. And he will trot onto the, the federal election and right now if Donald Trump does not run, hes absolutely totally the front runner because he appeals to the, the mag a base which i kind of look at as the mega leper colony. Well, let me look back to some of that, the covert data you cited the numbers, not the noise it, all right, points to in october that really could resemble last april, not withstandinG The shut down fatigue that has contributed to those Wal Mart shouting matches on youtube that Woman And Brasco and the supermarket harassing and coughing unmasked shoppers. Weve seen unruly airline passengers. There werE Reports of an increase in speeding on the highways the back to School Situation remains fluid. So per stressing parents. Same question john, then harry reid, thE Room will we see compliance with reinstated pandemic protocols. Only if the president mandates that the federal buildings and anythinG That receives federal money, you must wear it must be vaccinated to get into which would include airports, post offices, courts, and any University And School boards that receive an out of federal money. You want to come in, youve got to be vaccinated. I mean, here in orlando, the biggest Hospital Chain is code black, which means nobody comes in unless its E R, because theyre full of coven cases, and not only and their biohazard units, but in their icy use. In addition, theyve ordered 14 morG Trailers because theyre more capabilities are over constant. They just cant handle it. Meanwhile, in Daytona Beach Area in the, in the county there, the School Board voted to have masked mandates for the school kids. While the parents put up such a huge outcry and they picketed and they yelled and they threatened the teachers, they made noise. They threatened the principles on monday, which was the 1st day of this that they have backtracked, they were intimidated. And now its, its parents optional. Well, all these parents are goinG To sign something. Meanwhile, we got a quarter 1000000 kids hospitalized with covert around the country. They dont care down here. Ouch. The good news, i guess is that we know how to do shut down. Look at that. Netflix stock, harry, you get an earful every morning. How are the callers to your Show Signaling what we can expect in terms of compliance . If again, were told to stay home, isnt it incredible . And in normal america, everythinG That john said would be spot one. But this is bizarre. A world how is a Life And Death pandemic political habit . How did we let it come to this . How did this happen . My prediction is that the 30 percent of the unwilling will be very uncooperative. Theyll test every limit. Theyll fight every mandate. If you look at whats been happening with the Delta Variant and what that is meant that if you remember last summer, almost return to normal. It was rougher with Thank God we had the vaccine. Could you imagine the summer had there not been a vaccine . So my prediction is the customary predictable. 30 or so percent will be very uncooperative. And its a big problem. We are seeing on our radio talkers, john elliot, and harry hurley, harry, then john, as time permits to your ear, and i, while this Coven Story is blocking out the fun. What news stories and issues are the media beatinG To death . And what do you reckon is being under reported harry then john and by the way, im so sad to see 6 american Radio Talk Show Host Di on back in a to our did not ask our brothers and the talk radio family. Yeah. And they also encourage people to not be vaccinated. So theres a, a terriblE Ripple effect about god rest their souls. And almost every one of them who, when it was the way that they wish they took the vaccine. Lets learn from that. On the big stories on your great show how and the honestly gonna stand has been beaten to death, but national coverage has been terrible. I dont want to get in to all the details of it all, but just because you cover something a lot doesnt mean you cover it. Well, good point. Done a lot of coverage, but for coverage and confused, a lot of people the, the story that should be, we should be yelling from the mountain tops about our young, former World Champion olympic champion, gymnast who were sexually abused by a monster, larry nasser, great job. And by the way, we saw the other day how america could be with democrats and republicans on the Senate Committee behaving not a bipartisan way in a completely non partisan way. What if we did that everywhere . Yep. Yep. What f john i got about 30 seconds. Youre over under, over, reported under covered. This is not goinG To be very popular over reported is the, the story around the 20th anniversary of 911. 00. Now nobody celebrates and waves the flags better than america. And im not disparaginG That im comparinG That to under reported. We lost 3000 people on 911. We lose 3000 people every 2 days to cove it and weve lost 660000. And yet who cares . Who talks about it . Its not being reported harry hurley, john elliot, thank you both again for stepping into the big picture. And thank you for watchinG The big picture. Were goinG To be back same time next week. If youre watching real time, if you dont set your D V R for direct Tv Channel 3 to one dish dish, were to 80 or live stream on youtube as youtube Dot Com Slash R t. America. Im Holland Cook in washington and at Holland Cook on twitter, where the deal stands. If you follow me, ill follow you question more. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, me, ah, the war we have become americans. But a warninG The feet had become even one pocket. And one of the unfolded watershed moment. Okay. Down in history books. As a Market Beginning of the end of american preeminence. This is the end of america. I the hi max kaiser. This is the Kaiser Report in perez. Hey, you know, we have moved on from just praising lots of money and incurring lots of dead for dom reasons. And remember at all came down to let them eat cake when the food prices were too high.
