Over this long holiday weekend. Uncle sam celebrates another birthday, but a parade of news events has made for fireworks since january. What happened next was shilling and deadly. And although the crowd chanting hang Mike Pence was unable to drag the Vice President to the gallows, erected at the u. S. Capital, they missed him. And members of congress by just steps to this day, most republican surveyed believe the big lie about a rigged election. The media has twisted in turn things and made the narrative fit whatever they wanted to the point that well never know. Id put it up there with you know, who shot j. F k has fake news one. Have we come to the point where as only laughing stock, Rudolph Giuliani could put it. Truth isnt truth. Lets ask someone who gets an earful. Michael harrison is the publisher of Talkers Magazine, the Trade Pub of Talk Radio and Cable News and pod casters. And he host the Michael Harrison wrap wherever you get your podcasts and on Walk F M and Washington And W. S a r and fall river and a bunch of other great stations across the usa. Michael, every year since i came to r t america, youve been with us at the end of the year to debut your talkers 10, the 10 most talked about topics of the year. So here we are at half time. Whats the score . Its kind of a 2 year one year 2020 and 2021 have blended together into a kind of a wild year and a half and i guess some of it really was starting in 2019. It says if were in this transition into a whole new era, and i think everybody is a bit confused, but you asked the question has fake news one. I think the 1st Amendment is alive and well, but we have to realize that it is under attack from many different mis understandings about how it works. So i think theres always been fake news. I think theres always been yellow journalism. I think theres always been Bias And Spin and john, all kinds of dirty dealing in terms of political commentary and debate. We just more and is aware of it because they were fewer menus and we didnt have as much unfiltered information coming our way. So i think this is a period of adjustment holland, i think that we will eventually get our bearings and be able to separate the credible journalistic organizations from people sitting in their, in their base with a computer and having democratized, equal access to the media. Its a transitional period. Well, we come out of it will be either better off or worse off. I mean nothing. A certain uncertainty is a key word right now, but were going to be far in the future. We, this whole coded hero has longest into the future and now we have to cult guys are age. Remember how back during the vietnam war, the media branded the government as having a credibility gap. Now Donald Trump has turned the tables magine that he called news media. Our biggest problem, even as this virus, he told us would simply disappear like its a miracle, has killed 600000 americans. Many trump supporters. Busy have never forgiven once beloved Fox News for reporting the election results. Michael have legacy media last pre dominance over fringe media and social media. Legacy media has just lost its dominates because there is so much more media. As a matter of fact, the Term Mass media. No longer really has much meaning as does the Term Mainstream theyre mainstream has gotten so wide, but its also gotten shallow. Used to be the main stream was narrow, but very deep. You had these big ocean liners that could pass through. And if we were doing this, this water analogy, but now its Widening Mainstream and you have to really look carefully to see who youre dealing with. I think that everything has been disrupted in terms of turning the tables. Politicians have been saying bad things about the media all the way back to thomas jefferson, who perhaps was the last politician to say, id rather have the media, the government. Id rather have a corrupt media that a corrupt government, john paraphrasing, thomas jefferson. But after that, most politicians have blamed the media when it didnt go their way of a could. Spiro agnew in richard nixon. You wont have nixon to kick around anymore. We just tend to think that the now is, is like no other time before its difficult running a democracy and its difficult having a 1st Amendment. Everybodys for the 1st Amendment, if its protecting something they agree with. But a were very quick to make exceptions, you know, yelling fire in a crowded rooms takes in a lot more than fire these days. So i see this again as a transitional period. I dont, i dont see us going to hell in a handbasket at all. I think that were just learning how to be mature as a society that is democratic, but does have a lot of conflicting points of view, which is to be expected in a country. A number grants in a country of freedom and a country that is open to discussion about various points of view. Donald trump just exaggerated everything by the, the sheer largeness of his Personality And Ego as on thinkable as january 6 was 2020 ones biggest story of the year to date was also the biggest story of 2020 few people. Our Nations History had been more challenged or frowned time more challenging or difficult than the time. Were now. Once in a century, virus and silently stalks, the country is taken as many lives in one year. As america lost in all of World War 2, millions of jobs have been lost. Hundreds of thousands of businesses close. How different life was just a year ago when we were locked down and couped up some of the businesses that closed or gone for good, others nimble enough to roll with the punches are back better. Michel for over a year. Weve seen Cable News talking aheads, broadcasting from living rooms. A lot of our brothers and sisters in the Radio Family Havent been to that station since the shut down began. Where else do you see innovation during the pandemic changing life and this new normal . Well, its affected all business, its not just radio stations for the beginning of this summer. One of the major topics has been, do we return to work or not, isnt saved. A lot of workers dont want to go. A lot of companies are saying, come back or else, certainly by the fall. Weve also dealt with changes in terms of how we deal with education in terms of schools and whether zoom and whether remote learning is possible. Whether or not its better to be in the classroom, or we could change that. We have super teachers, the able to get to large numbers of students. Its exposed our weaknesses as, as a society. Its exposed a lot of our systems that we took for granted back to your discussion before about journalistic credibility. Theres also reminded us about the things that we really love and that we took for granted our lot of sports, love of theatre, major events, such as weddings and, and, and other social events. Weve reevaluated our passions. What do we really want to do . Some people dont want to go to work because they just dont want to go back. That old job. They, they reply to what they care about, what they want to do with their lives, how they want to be actually used. This has been a remarkable transition. So she logically, technologically, just really and just in terms of peoples personal lifestyles. So everything is affected by this. And anybody who claims to have a handle on it. Heres exactly whats happening there, there delusional. Because were all in this together. And its, its like being at an airplane going through turbulence. You dont know how far that drop is going to be, or if its going to pull out of it in a 2nd. And these are thus very exciting times. Theyre challenging times. But again, i remain optimistic, i believe there are times that are full of opportunity. And i see that were going to be heading into the roaring twenties and its going to be a pretty good decade ahead. After weve gotten through this, which is going to still take a little bit of time, it will, the Supply Chain interruptions are on nerving, but i sense and witness what the polls report. There is a zeal for the american come back thats unfolding around us. And well a lot of that. The claustrophobia being cooped up for a year. But the people want to get out and they feel better and theyre unmasked. Were speaking with Michael Harrison doing the 2021 half time report and were going to wrap it up after a quick break. And we will also remember the unforgettable. This is the big picture on our t america. Ah ah, ah. Look forward to talking to you all that technology should work for people. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings. Accept wheres the short or conflict with the 1st Law show your identification. We should be very careful about artificial intelligence. At the point obviously is too great truck rather than fear i would take on various jobs with artificial intelligence. Real, somebody with demon a robot must protect its own existence with exist. Well, what weve been reporting on for a few years, Money Printing leads to inflation. This is about becoming a big problem for central banks around the world. Only one central bank on the world is actually taking it on board and proactively dealing with the issue. Well get to that mom and oh i this is the 2021 half time report. Im Holland Cook with Talkers Magazine publisher, Michael Harrison. Last 4th of july. Many of us went without the fireworks and the parades and the get togethers because we were fearful of the virus. And with many out of work who could afford more than a stay cation, what a difference a year makes. Even with that polling data, we talked about demonstrating widespread optimism as the american come back on folds. The tone on conservative Cable News and Talk Radio is relentlessly negative. Michael, are angry talkers, banking on nuff sore heads, patronizing advertisers that this narrative is still a business or are they simply zealots who might be oblivious to widespread optimism . Well, i dont think either side has a monopoly, an optimism. So i dont agree with you there holland, my perspective is sort of a non partisan view of the media and i see both sides choosing the other a being negative, the conservative house, see the liberal, the house as being anti american progress, critical of the, the country and a lot of problems in that regard. So i see both sides accuse of each other a being negative. That being said, i, i go back to what i said earlier. I think that we have to have that reevaluation how we digest and interpret the media. And holds the hosts and the commentators the opinionated the journalists that the Research Thing is journalism anymore. In the way we grew up with it, hold them accountable for having their facts straight. And when they discovered new facts and, and changing circumstances, not be afraid to admit it. I think the key, the problem, if im, if im going to find fault with the media, its this whole thing of habit. Take and dont back down about or watch because that shows weakness. Thats not a very good way to go forward. We have to admit when were wrong. Yeah, it seems to be getting numbers for young carlson. One of the big stories this year is one of the big stories every year and its getting worse and worse year by year. Its the weather. In addition to perennial wildfires and droughts out west and tornadoes and hurricanes elsewhere, a februarys texas Winter Storm a Power Outage which killed over a 100 betrayed a state. Unprepared takes, and texans take such pride and keeping Uncle Sam at Arms Length and to avoid federal oversight. And deregulate its energy sector, texas had isolated its Power Grid from the 2 major national grids, making it difficult to import electricity from other states. 10 years earlier, feds war and the state that its power plants would fail if it got cold enough. It did. They did damage estimates approach to 100 b 1000000000. 00. And the electric Reliability Council of texas. This are caught, we keep hearing about reckoned that the whole system was quote, seconds or minutes away from complete failure. Even before the lights came back on, there was a stubborn Trash Talk about renewable energy, even though texas is the number one wind state. And that they are currently retraining. A lot of oil people to install solar, even as theyre telling texans to turn the Air Conditioning to 78 degrees. Michael, everything is an argument. Now have we become a nation so divided that to paraphrase juliani, weather isnt weather. Well juliani speaks for himself when he says whether isnt weather, weather is certainly weather and i think most people know when the sun is shining and when the rain is falling. So i dont take that too seriously. But i do think youve touched on something going forward thats going to be big. And that is that whole stretch of topics that include climate change, perhaps global warming, and certainly our reliance on the grid and our reliance on computers. We have to strengthen the grid. We have to have redundant situations. We have to have analog backup, just like, you know, you have a Hurricane Candle when the lights go out, were not so far into the 21st century. Like back in the 1900s that were still horses on the road at the time we had the model teased, sometimes they broke down and you had to get a horse. We got a transition into this, but the bridge, the, our cyber space, our computer reliance, and of course, the fact that the earth seems to be changing under our feet. These are the issues that are going to intensify in the months and years ahead. Yeah, Donald Trump got the Horse Laugh when he talked about abandoning computers to go back to paperwork. And that is obviously an extreme and untenable position. But i fret for our industry as big corporate media have de populated the local radio. And now its all in the cloud as these hack attacks continue, they can bring down a big oil pipeline. They can shut off the biggest meat packer. I think that youre on to something with this fear of the grid going down. So i hesitate to make a prediction that robotic radio will suffer, but i wouldnt be surprised. I got about 30 seconds left. Do you have a prediction you would like to venture for the 2nd half of this year . We now begin i think the economy is going to come roaring back. I think that theyll be new issues that will test President Biden as to whether hes a good president or not a good president. Not based upon a comparison to trump. I think that were going to go through a shift and this left, right, Trump Versus Biden dialogue that has dominated the last year and a half will come to an end. And were going to go forward with a new republican party that may be in the tradition of trump, but well do replace him and biden. Well make it a break based upon how he handles whatever is to come from your lips to Radio And Tv talkers, ears, and i know you have their ears. Congratulations on your recent successful conference at hofstra university. And i want to echo your want that we spend a little more time on assessment and a little less time on argument talkers, magazine, publisher, Michael Harrison, host of the Michael Harrison wrap on walk f. M, and washington and wherever you get your podcast. Thanks. As always for stepping into the big picture, well catch up with you on new years. Thank you very much. In just the 1st half of this year, we said good bye to men and women who changed to the america. They left us Ramsey Clark Champion civil rights and liberties. And when Prince Philip passed at age 99, the royal Family Feud paused him in several scandals. And the queen sat alone in church. A Pandemic Music Farewell very different than princess dianas funeral. As life goes on, it is less uncertain then same time, last year. Doctors you have seen here tell us that like the flu, this covert could be endemic, meaning that we get a jab every year. We hope that this Pandemic Weve been through has been the story of our lifetime, meaning nothing worse happens. But if weve learned anything in 15 months, its that anything can happen. So the way we respond is how we survive. And as we wish Uncle Sam, i happy birthday and begin the 2nd half of 2021. Lets remember what we were told as the year began. Harry stan and the shout of the capital dont. As was mentioned earlier, completed amid the civil war, when the union itself was literally hanging in the balance. Yet we endured. We prevailed. Here we stand, looking out in the great mall where Doctor King spoke of his dream. Here we stand 180 years ago and another inaugural thousands of protesters tried to block brave women marching for the right to vote. And today we mark this word as a 1st woman in american history elected to national office Vice President combo hires. Dont tell me thing cant change. Ah ah, everything we associate with modern life has been digitalized. In fact, we live within ecosystems created by big tech. They decide what we can see, what we can buy, and even what we can say. These systems no longer serve us, they actually control us. Is there a way out from this growing dystopian . Imagine picking up a future textbook on the early years of the 21st century. What other chapters called Gun Violence School shootings, homelessness. First it was my job and then it was my settled. Then it was my savings. I have nothing. I have nothing and its not like i dont try. I look for resources, i look for jobs. I look for everything i can to make this pass. And i end up doing is testing the road to the american dream, paved with dead refugees at this very idealized image of the older america, native americans look past the death that happened every single day. This is a modern history of the usa, my america on our t the hi am i kaiser . This is the guys report. Well, what weve been reporting on for a few years, Money Printing leads to inflation. This is now becoming a big problem for central banks around the world. Only one central bank on the world is actually taking it on board and proactively dealing with the issue. Well get to that a Mom And Stacy right. Well, the Money Printing has been going across, of course, the us across europe, japan, theyve all been printing money. Depends the 1st to go Money Printer go for years and years ago, decades ago. But were going to get to the central bank of russia is apparently going to be raising rates yet again in a shocking moment. But 1st, i want to lay out the situation of whats going on and why we have this Wealth And Income gap. And just the extraordinary moment in which we are. Weve covered the extraordinary nature of negative interest rates. Weve covered the extraordinary nature of the Money Printing and negative energy prices. All the crazy things that happen. One price signals go astray. Well, household corporate equities and mutual fund shares, Asset Market Value levels have expanded by 8. 00 trillion dollars. An Asset Value between q 42019, and q 12021, the fastest and largest Valuation Expansion in history. So you kind of see that in the day that we, you see that the feds interventions get sharper and faster and harder. So thats after the 2002001 Dot Com crash. It was a slow decline for a few years like 4 or 5 years. And then it hit bottom and slowly came back to life. Heres a 2008 crash you see. And what you see is that theres a kind of like a u shaped bottom. We had a v shaped week of declines back in march or 2020. And now the Move Value Ass evaluations have gone parabolic right. Thats kind of history of the show as a report
