covering they're really coming to a head in 2020 diggle is ation dollar is ation japan afic ation of our balance sheets of central bank's money printer go back and de china for cation now is a new thing so we're going to cover those over then upcoming episodes of summer solutions did china for cation that's the 1st time i've heard that what does it mean it's a process of separating the global economy from china exiting trade deals japan as we recently reported they they're paying their own corporate companies from japan 536000000 to take their factories out of china and move them to vietnam move them to cambodia move them to other places in southeast asia so we're going to see a lot of the power all of china has come from the fact that we have outsourced much of our manufacturing capacity from america from europe from japan to china so now there's going to be a process of the de globalization this is. subset of that the globalization is called the china fixation remember him wasn't too long ago when people were describing the us china relationship to symbiotic relationship where we sent them their jobs they sent us cheap goods even though was mutually counterproductive people described it as. symbiotic and therefore have no endgame attached to it and those who are warning what would happen if these 2 separated they mayhem it would create and that was just not accepted that here we are do you try to fit cation i guess what that theory i guess that was imply this is one thing we're going to cover in upcoming episodes of summer solutions we're going to talk to chris fenton who was a china you know bull he was really bullish on that spent a lot of time being essentially an ambassador there now he's kind of pulling back and even the likes of steve benen see him almost as an hour and steve bannon if you know is very very against china and that was part of his role in the election of trump a 2016 was an anti tying up position so here in domestically in the united states where also seeing the inequality the wealth and income gap and that's coming to a head as well but one thing i think we're going to see post this pandemic and of course we are in a global pandemic so our summer vacation by the way will not be anywhere but to the backyard because we still can't go anywhere but i have made up a term and that's called hugh monk a fixation we're going to see the human defecation of the already enormous entities in america like the 3 or 4 banks that control most of the deposits the 3 or 4 internet companies that control most of the internet we're going to see them get even bigger as the smaller companies fade away just so you may be not what i was in my 3rd or 4th grade i got. a mark down on a paper because i used the word humongous and the teacher told me that humongous is not a word but i looked it up humongous is actually an english word made up in the 1970 s. of a combination of huge and monstrous so it is a word thank god that spent resolved after these years let's get the teacher on the phone right now give them a piece of our yeah so few months for cation of course the way otherwise described that would be consolidation or a conglomeration right there's always been a trend toward a conglomeration and then to keighley that's go conglomeration but yeah you monger for keisha and everything's getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger at the same time however we're having this you know societal wide uprising breakdown unrest whatever we're seeing and this is to me what i believe is the new renaissance is starting to happen because remember the original renaissance happened out of the dark ages we entered this period from out of the dark ages after the 100 years war after the black plague and member of the black death is what is basically directly responsible for their honest ons because it undermined the authority of the church and because the church was incapable of dealing with it they had nothing to say about it so we're in a period right now where we have this global pandemic health authorities globally national presidents states like the heads of state have all failed no but everybody was caught flat footed because of the paradigm in which the the new papacy which is the central banks run this world they couldn't obviously shut down anything they couldn't do anything they just had to cross their fingers and hope that it all went well and now we have just total collapse you had collapse that led directly to the renaissance in florence and i think this is the sort of moment where where the authority is disintegrating and that's why you see all these uprisings people no longer believe if all value derives from human consciousness like we don't. have faith we have lost faith we've lost we don't place value on what the authorities have told us about what the situation is whether it's the pandemic of money printing or the pandemic of a virus during the renaissance itself people were saying wow this is cool it's the renaissance they were like oh my gosh the church is collapsing the authority of the church is collapsing therefore this is just one other chapter of this ongoing catastrophe called the dark ages and middle ages but now we look back and we say oh actually that was the beginning of the run of science so you believe that during these bleak times of cove it and central bank authority collapse we've got the seeds of place for a new renaissance i do believe we are heading into a moment that could be a new renaissance that means we're exiting a dark ages and i think you could only like to find an epic and a park you know hundreds of years in the future just like it was called the italian renaissance only not during that they didn't say hey this is the renaissance you know it was 1020300 years later that people recognize that wow that happened and the black death as i had pointed out undermined the authority of the church which had led which is basically the head of the dark ages and then you had the failure of 2 big banks in florence that led to the rise of middy t. so we haven't had our bank failures yet they haven't been allowed to fail but once those failed then the mideast she's in the and and artisanship could rise but also importantly what happened in in florence of course was half the population disappeared through the black death so before the plague there were like 45000 people that live there and then after it was like 25000 people that live there so in into that mix you had this workers started earning more money they had more value in society and the economy then you had devinsky michael. angelo raphael tissue and all these amazing artists and the age of discovery and so we're also on the verge of an age of discovery if you think about where it's going it's not in our geographical earth obviously because we've discovered all of that but outer space we have space x. for example in la musk is one of these age of discover is right he said that space x. neural link our consciousness is the next you know age of explore exploration we're going to go into our consciousness and try to find what's in there oh right so you've got outer space you've got cyber space you've got inner space yes all of these frontiers are going to be explored in this new age of discovery to pick up on your renaissance analogy and we've had banks failing but we haven't had a central bank fail so i guess that's what we should look for as the keystone a moment of this run a science kicking off is a major central banks around the world failing and i would suspect that will be in the news and the renaissance as you had pointed out was not like super easy it wasn't like everybody welcomed the art of divinity and michelangelo but now you know at that time had the people army and these people war is the people states like people all these wars going on during that time but the the ideas like they were already painted and it was too late but the same here we have means that were already created money printing o'brien was already created in to late to race that from human consciousness we already have this idea undermining the authority of the money printers so where do you go with that and where will that lead to a yeah i think this is a good topic to explore in summer solutions you know because they've got casts and discussions coming up kind of digging into this new renaissance idea and the parallels with the you know the year 1500 or so when the florentine renaissance kicked off i think it's a good one and we've got some incredible inventors. and thinkers and philosophers and their are out on twitter they're there they're putting memes that are globally recognized and instantaneously changing people's thoughts and paradigms and so into that comes to this interconnected global cyber genetic environment in an ecosystem you don't know at any moment what idea could suddenly transform all of human consciousness in an instant and there were again like forces fighting that and it was around the notion of free will whether you have free will or not or whether. you know it was preordained that feat you had no control over your fate and we see that sort of same thing the fight back on that is coming from the central authorities that have every bit the population have lost respect for the central authorities because of this epic pandemic of money printing because of the pandemic that's happened over the past 20 years but you see it's a process and now people don't trust it and they're starting to say well you're controlled by these online means you're controlled by these evil nation states online like controlling your mind through a meme and so they're fighting back whether or not you have free will instead of fate it's like if you encounter a mean you could it's the mean that cause you to lose faith in us it's like a satan braai them philosophically what people understand during a renaissance. like a lotus flower the essence of creation comes from an unknown place and blooms and there's a lot of people that are constantly looking to cut flowers and to just destroy the garden but that would cut off our collective unconscious and our global consciousness collective telephonically and cyber kinetically and opens up the possibility of a trend in some dental. breakthrough that could be part of the summer solutions. we're going to take a little break and you can just all that and then we're going to come back and get hit again don't go away. 54 jets and more than 1300 military personnel are headed to air force base in alaska where is that to say come on i'll show you what's the reason for any type of enhanced u.s. military presence in this area russia. what is it suddenly about the south china sea that makes it so that it 11000000000 barrels of oil. take a look at this map who really owns what kind of says no it belongs to us india says no we claim that that belongs to us both of these countries have nuclear weapons capabilities there is reason for concern so that's why we're going to drill down on the story for you today right here on the news with rick sanchez where you know as we always like to say we do believe by golly it's time to do news again. welcome back to the kaiser report i'm max kaiser summer solution season premier summer of 20200 this is so exciting you know when you talk about deep thinking in the 20th century talk about. guys like. malcolm mclaren. punk rock punk rock. you got to think about punk rock i think it's what i think about but i think also the medium is the message is a thought how come there was never a punk rock song about that stacy marshall mcluhan he was the comedian philosopher and basically the guy who discovered or invented media studies and this follows on what we were talking about in the 1st half of the age of discovery that we're entering upon not only are we heading to mars and outer space but we're heading to inner space in our mind. combined with cyber space so we're going to get into that we're going to cover that over these upcoming episodes about warfare are artificial intelligence how this relates to what's going on with the d. trying to fit cation but marshall mcluhan you know he famously gave timothy leary his phrase of 1967 which you may remember max turn on tune in drop out and i think this is the sort of uprisings you're seeing but what marshall mcluhan also gave us ties into the renaissance and back into the middle ages and that is gutenberg galaxy ok we're in the gutenberg galaxy what he predicted back in the sixty's was that that there would be a digital language there would be electronic communication and that once that happened that it would be like the gutenberg press that it would suddenly that knowledge would not be in the hands of the elite the people states you know holding onto this power of the printing press today you know that knowledge would spread communication was spread and there would be a sort of renaissance and i'm like man i do remember the sixty's and i do remember the feeling at that time with timothy leary and marshall mcluhan and the culture and that was the anti vietnam protests. the youth culture as it was called the time decided and figured out that they could secede they could simply walk away from the debate the debate seemed pointless to the vietnam war debate between republicans and democrats between all these different factions of society seemed utterly stuck and pointless and so this idea of simply dropping out seceding from it and pursuing an inner light which is what timothy leary was talking about marshall mcluhan was philosophically describing that the media as an alternative source of light and alternative beacon of light he could make your own media this is the beginning rilya do it yourself media people up until that moment television was very much n.b.c. to c.b.s. a.b.c. and it was short of merrily expensive to do so but during the sixty's and then certainly in the seventy's cheap portable home video equipment became available and people could make their own t.v. and make their own media reality and so i think there is a parallel because now you've got the ability for anybody to reach a 1000000000 people on planet earth through the internet and with their own media tools and with image crafting tools you know that is remarkably powerful gutenberg galaxy that's what we have back then when timothy leary and marshall mcluhan and all these sort of thinkers looking at a youth economy around them what they practiced and what they preached was that they urged people to embrace cultural changes through the use of psychedelics by detaching from the existing conventions and hierarchies and society so the existing conventions on hierarchies are what are under threat now as a because of this gutenberg galaxy they can simply detach. is the what became the prevailing modus operandi for the boomers of that era to deal with the stalemate of the political quagmire they detached and here we have in the 21st century the ability to detach a new and exciting ways obviously iran must is actually detaching from the gravity of planet earth and going into the solar system through the ability to garner millions of fans and followers using social media an individual has the ability to create a whole wave of thought me more fair weaponization of names all these things are very similar and it seems as though the prophecy that marshall mcluhan had in the sixty's is now coming completely true as a prophet he is underrated now i want to tie that period to a headline from today and it remember this mind expansion the expansion of human consciousness this this gutenberg galaxy is tied to the internet and our communication through the internet and our communication through means. you know telling like we always point out that money for it to go broke tells everybody around the world whatever country they're in whatever nationality they are whatever color whatever race but a rejoinder whatever anything they all understand immediately that communicates powerfully across the world so here we have this race in the decomposition of the time china fixation around artificial intelligence and a long mosque recently warned about this on the joe rogan show where he said that once a i weaponize is means that could be the danger that's where he sees the danger so i cut this headline the pentagon promises to use artificial intelligence for good not evil of course that sounds like google's logline which they never abided by but you know back in the sixty's of course we had m.k. ultra which was run by the cia the cia now are like upstanding. analysts who are on m.s.n. b c most nights but you know the fact that in their d.n.a. is the sort of programmes that they ran and you know if you hear m.k. ultra you think conspiracy theory right but it was a genuine program that ran from 105321973 they stopped in 1973 and it only got discovered the program only got discovered in 1977 and that's based on a few fragments of the documents because they were all been ordered to be burned but i think it's important that it ended in 1903 because what the program was about was mind control and this is what artificial intelligence is what the pentagon is seeking with their own programs darpa pays $1000000.00 for an ai app that can predict and me some motions so they're always looking to control the population this is been back since the middle ages since the dark ages since before that through means of the time through transubstantiation through the idea of controlling words controlling text controlling the gutenberg galaxy right while the pentagon then the would be a major american institution that is now having a problem of loss of face whether it's a central bank the pentagon government in general this is part of the renaissance is that the population loses faith in the prevailing institutions whether it was the 1500s in florence and loss of faith in the church or whether it's a 1960 s. an american loss of faith in the american political system or the 21st century where we have loss of faith in the federal reserve bank the pentagon and other political institutions and other various institutions that define the culture it's a repeat of a renaissance if you will to use your analogy and with this idea of the pentagon using a for good this of course is highly suspect and no one should take that at face value and. believe that that is their intention and on the all technology in the 21st century relies on encryption and encryption is something that right now is beyond the reach of the pentagon it's beyond the reach of any government that is part of this technology is that the good bloomberg press of the 21st century would mean the people's control of encryption now m.k. ultra as i mentioned ended in 1983 so it was all about mind control and the techniques they used were pretty extreme they used to manipulate its subjects mental state some brain functions techniques included the code for administration of high doses of psychoactive drugs especially l.s.d. and other chemicals electroshocks hypnosis sensory deprivation isolation verbal and sexual abuse as well as other forms of torture and most of that is of course if you turn into cable news and you see all these modern m.k. ultra all these intelligence officials who are now bizarrely like journalists on television as if it's like some normal thing but 97 face that mind control they want to control the masses and in fact in today's story that i told you darpa pays a $1000000.00 it mentions that they the previously under reported work is being carried out under a darpa project dubbed pride of course like you know modern identity politics short for prediction and recognition of intent decision and emotion the aim is to create an ai that can understand and predict reactions of a group rather than an individual and then offer guidance on what to do next we're going to be able to come out of the dark ages they're afraid of our free will this is the same sort of thing the papacy did back and when the italian renaissance was flourishing they were they you know excommunicated entire populations something that hadn't been done before and they did that to florence in 1981 by the way you know we we have the same sort of moment. of mind control which was we went on to the all forgot system we went on to the dollar and that was a form of mind control and it worked so they could end the program because then m.k. ultra. right well all of the out history all attempts to control the population in any way either through propaganda through weaponized means through symbolic representations of it all was through out history comes down to a battle between fear and love yes and as was the case of the 60s in the summer of love in the embrace of love this ultimately triumphed over the fear of america in losing their empire and the need for them to go out and start a war that was a war of convenience that had no political merit but it was based on fear the same thing about most wars are all based on fear and the only solution is love so renaissance could also mean love it's a synonym for love you could say it all the artists of the renaissance were chastised because they kept depicting love venus was a huge subject and renaissance art as an expression of love and i also want to point out that they the renaissance was the crucial part of it was understanding the history because during the middle ages nobody knew about greek history they weren't taught that they weren't allowed to learn it was only in the business. so they found knowledge from history so those who are trying to erase history now it's important to watch and study what they're doing and whether or not you want to forget history and whether or not you want to erase aristotle for example that's a question being asked now so you know this gutenberg galaxy it's what it's like nonstop fight as we point out it's been happening for thousands of years is the same battles but i think we could be on the verge of a renaissance leave comments if you think or not it's true whether you think the summer solution series was just kicking off right now with this 1st episode and we're going to be diving deeply hot it's hot see i'm like a venus coming out of my shell. that's exactly the image i had in my mind. and that's we're going to explore my inner psyche some at times maybe not too dark oh it's low i am love. oh my goodness i can't wait for the rest of this summer. it's gonna be a. state. it's going to be a heck of a ride this has been kaiser reports. on twitter it's kaiser report. by go. down in the polls and not just by a pointer to traditionally incumbency alone is enough this is all 2 u.k. . breaking news this has been a massive explosion in beirut with thick smoke seen rising above the lebanese capital he's never nice health minister reports a high number of casualties will be getting reaction from there and our correspondent in the middle east. also this hour with u.k. schools set to open next month experts warn the government has just one month to ramp up its test and trade scheme if england is to avoid a 2nd wave of coronavirus. bosses defy government plans to get stuff back to the office as it's revealed homeworking could call to the capital 178000000 pounds a month. as the government increases prison sentences for tariff and this report claims that more jail time kills even more extremism by dozens we have in both sides of the debate. we start with breaking news a massive explosion has been seen in the lebanese capital beirut these are live pictures from there now joined by dr mona xabi who's line in beirut thanks very much indeed for joining us did you hear or see the explosion yes oh yes of course of course and yet there is that. area that has been damaged by this explosion the explosion was massive so it's a huge explosion we're not sure until now what caused the explosive and the authorities are not confirming and if they knew the investigation is on the way. peter baker with seaport so it was a apparently they were there are some boats they had where there are some wounded people as they are trying to do that 100 people from the boats and from the surrounding area we're not sure at all still how big it is that they're stalled and how many wanted but for sure we have seen now down 15 facias being taken from the east side of the slow motion and there's a lot of glass because the explosion there was a lot of pressure from the slow certains that i don't know where the special comes thongs but it was this very strong so therefore over a larger radius glass was flying everywhere in the city and therefore the number of people who were wounded something last so how far away are you then from where the explosion happened and where you also possibly in danger from flying glass and debris yes i am about to you know meters away and in this state yes there was considerable destruction you know 2 to the residential areas and the commotion of the civilian infrastructure was damaged i could say the damage is pretty serious and you know i have to remind you also that lebanon is going through a very serious economic crisis and also we have to quote on the virus outbreak so this adds to it and the situation is becoming more and more challenging we all seeing startling pictures images but we were not hearing anything so when it happened what did you hear even though you were 2 kilometers away. yes well there were 2 explosions we heard 2 explosions now we're not sure but there was that kind of the 1st explosion we can see from the footage that was. there that there was a 1st fire and a small explosion that was followed by a large explosion and there are reports that say that there's a is that warehouse in the number 12 warehouse in the airport that contained some fertilizer and some fireworks how this is a very early to confirm this is the only place that minute reports that were out so we're not sure about that so we'll have to wait until the investigation you know moves forward the important thing now is will rush the wanted people to the hospital although the explosion took place. maybe 2 i don't know how half hours to 3 hours it's all there are still people but haps trapped in buildings trapped in metal is that densher place to stand there i mean there you know that cross just the bridge the fence the civilians are trying to remove the people 5 minutes ago he had all of the general security general apostol but i mean visit to this fact off explosion he said. he stressed that we should. you know make any prejudice let's wait for the investigation i know this is a very tense you know moment in lebanon but will tense more about that because obviously you talked about the economic pressures as well as of course the pressures exerted by the pandemic coronavirus can you give us just a brief picture of what the current political situation is like that at the moment in lebanon well you know there is the government is struggling because late of a corruption in the concious been so high and people haven't been asked the florida . or accountable for corruption and so yes the day before yesterday we were next day or yesterday we witnessed the resignation of the foreign minister who was immediately replaced there seems to be you know a kind of tension in their country because also there is the judgment that the long awaited judgment of the us or time you know for lebanon on that looks into the assassination of prime minister how do you get scheduled to come out on. on a friday so so everybody is making the. coordination between this explosion. and the judgment that these supposed to come out in a few days but there is nothing to come for an armed at this correlation the insults and should or the significant it could be an accident it could be coincidence and it could be something else we don't know we have to wait for the investigation incredibly testing times now for the lebanese people and certainly all the facts as you've been talking about testing the lebanese people's resilience how will people cope with this added disaster. well people out a close. friend to the national cut and see has been decided that i am a professor at the university my study is only one tensed now i am having hard parents keeping up with all the expenses with my small family and i have a good job what about the rest of the people who are the working class the people who work in manual labor they must be having a hard time you know finding enough money to support their families so this explosion created so much destruction that's going to add to the difficulties and challenges facing the people of lebanon who have endured so many wars and so much destruction and really really we didn't let me say i mean we had. really don't need any more but i mean to be tested it's ok we had an outside and i think the up to people when suffered more from this than i hold but that. you know this doesn't into these problems and i hope the investigation you know will be a proper investigation and if there's anyone responsible i hope that they would be held accountable if they were not clean it is not more complicated than that you know and did despite the situation ascribing the moment beirut has of course pulled through some pretty tough times in the parsonage so yes yes definitely and i hope that the tension that is there today and this destruction today will not escalate in the coming days and weeks how are you in full to the moment what's what is local media saying at the moment who are people turning to to find out more about what's happened and also what's happened perhaps to that their relatives and their friends and yes there is a side there was some panic in the 1st 2 hours that panic now has calmed down a bit but people where yet because they were all using their cell phones and you know they've sent cell phones got blocked because everybody wants to use the phone so now that things have calmed down a bit i think people now. you know are more calm are they are still wanted to move to are still fires burning and on the location the army brought in that some had pick up those to put off the fire the hospitals that asking people with minimal warrants not to go to the emergency and to try to cure their wants at home because the hospitals out over the crowd that now. i think you know it was a one of the biggest explosions in the year in the history of lebanon and i am not take such a thing i'm very carefully choosing my where i know this is very early stages but do you know of anybody who's been affected by this yes i know i know a couple for i want to be clear they are in the hospital as they are being treated at. the hospital was also down. the american university hospital there was a lot of 2nd last in the universe that broke setlist flying all over the floors where the where there are little to patients and it's created even more than you can find the hospital that you know at the same time everybody is running everywhere and they keep it you have to keep that mock on them they have to be careful for that could only part of the population with the pressure and it comes from but what about that massive mushroom cloud you talk about mosques because corona virus but is it safe for what can you smell fumes for example coming from where the explosion can not anything here from 2 kilometers away they just i cannot smell you can see that this guy's out not you know they're almost clear you know there's no see my look for any chemical yet the cloud it was a the color was that i dish and audit and i'm sure there's a chemical agent that and highly explosive materials now what kind of material this the and could it be in 9th grade for the 1st eyes there's nowhere to house and the seaport possibly could it be fireworks or that mixture of all these things possibly and it could be something out so let's wait for the investigation and i think speculation in general to be very useful you know so you feel safety but being outside which i can see you at the moment. yes well it's a low it's ok there's nothing you know after the explosion there was no other explosion followed and there was no shooting or no danger now after the big things that. we have to remove all the want all that and the investigation under way so that we can know exactly what happened and i all becoming our well we wish you the very best of luck and thank you very much indeed for talking to us live from burke talked to obama xabi thank you. joins me now with the latest paula do you know any more about what has happened. well as your guest was saying within the last 2 hours there was a massive explosion that shook the beirut port it is still too soon to confirm what caused the explosion but the initial suggestions are that it was a container of explosives we are receiving reports that oil got satellite with eyewitnesses saying that they heard a massive explosion and orange grade mushroom cloud forming overhead i witness and saying that buildings in the vicinity shook that at the same time there was widespread destruction and it destroyed everything in the area now hundreds of people are thought to be injured we are receiving confirmation that 10 people have been injured but we are hearing from the health minister and others that that number is likely to be much higher the health minister saying a very high number of injuries and extensive damage so we are expecting any injuries could run into the hundreds they were all thoughts that people are still trapped beneath the wreckage and the emergency workers are trying their best to reach them hospitals in the area were initially put on high alert but now because of the high number of people that have been taken to nearby hospitals those hospitals are closing their doors and saying that they simply pushed to maximum capacity and we know. over at least one hospital that was itself hit with the blast now we are receiving contradictory reports as to whether or not there was a 2nd blast there's no confirmation of this and if it did happen indeed where it happened some reports suggest that it happened at the residence not the timing if indeed this is accurate is very noteworthy because it comes just days ahead of a huge in tribe you know that is due to issue a verdict of 4 suspects into the killing of rafik hariri a former lebanese prime minister who was assassinated in a car bombing back in 2005 now he was a son a sunni politician who was calling for syria to withdraw its troops his below which is a significant political player in the lebanon scene has dismissed the trial saying that it is not politically neutral now we're just receiving reports that hundreds of people as i mentioned have been injured and that roads to and from the area are blocked so there's a lot of confusion and it will take some time for some clarity to come through as to what actually caused the blast and whether indeed there are what are the final casualty figures as you know lebanon is a country that is riddled with sick tarion rife with secretary and strife so it could be that this was an accidental could be politically motivated politically the country is going through turmoil it was just yesterday that we saw the resignation of the foreign minister in the country also witnessed a bloody civil war back in the 1970 s. so added to all of that you have an economic crisis at the moment the country is struggling to get a grip on the whole coronavirus pandemic and so we'll have to wait and see what the investigation comes up with but no doubt this is a massive blast if not 2 blasts that has wrecked wreaked havoc on beirut and emergency services all struggling to get on top of us. paula can you give us an idea put into context explain to us the role of hezbollah in all of this. well in recent days there has been a a flare up of tensions between hizbollah and his role so there was initially some reports that this could be an israeli strike but those were immediately shut down so if we can put that to one side the idea that his as a political player with that has your brain in connections linked to fighting against israel and that has reached the maintenance recently within lebanon itself hizbollah is an important political player and in recent years it has gained a lot of support and again a lot of momentum with more people supporting it having said that it's caused great division between the various sectors of the live in these public so where you are suggesting that his below in many ways behind this is something that people perhaps might ask but they would be cautious to say until there was some kind of investigation that was done hizbollah has supported a lot of courses within the lebanese society but there are there are sectors of the society who are against has been so that again contributes to the sectarian strife that we see within the country pull us live thank you very much indeed for that update. well i'll have much more on this developing story after a short break. the world is driven by a dream shaped by frank person of those. thinks . we dare to ask. back to our breaking news a massive explosion has been seen in the lebanese capital beirut smoke is rising above the capital after a large mushroom cloud now these are live pictures from there just earlier we just saw it was night time now there as we can see as a say these are live pictures coming from there so the picture not at all clear compared to what we saw earlier where we saw huge explosions possibly 2 explosions there the aftermath and the air itself is centered around the city's port and lebanese media is reporting that the blast occurred in a far works warehouse and lebanon's health minister said that a very high number of injuries have been sustained as well as extensive damage we were talking to an eyewitness a little earlier who was 2 kilometers away from the center of the blast and he heard it and felt the blast saying that. glass was being sprayed huge vast distances from the epicenter of the explosion and we're hearing that 10 people have so far been confirmed dead but there are obviously concerns of many many more casualties this is a city already in crisis due to the pandemic the coronavirus pandemic where hospitals are already at full capacity and they are now said to be overwhelmed by casualties and it comes at a very sensitive time though for the country's status its economy very close to collapse and a lot of political tension as well so we hope to be hearing further from there we heard earlier from our correspondent paula slipper who is giving us a bit of a background into the context the political situation at the moment but i'm talking to our eyewitness earlier we know that this is a country at the moment going through severe economic crisis huge tensions and this is yet another blow. testing the resilience of the lebanese people now these are pictures showing the aftermath of an explosion which happened in the proletariat there are reports that this could have occurred in a fireworks container in the port but nobody has yet to explain or confirm exactly what caused this huge blast as you can see there on the screen captured by social media and the impact it's having there in the local port itself i'll be speaking to mark colvin shortly whose account of 1st question is to give us an idea of how this can impact will impact indeed lebanon and the lebanese people so what we're following closely at the moment it's obviously getting dark now the time frame there is showing that night is falling on the capital and it's very difficult at the moment to get any information because we do also understand from our eyewitness that communications mobile phones basically blocked because so many people are trying to contact each other and at the moment all we know is that 10 people have apparently been confirmed to be dead but looking at the devastation the crisis there now unfolding in the lebanese capital is quite startling as you can see. and the lebanese health minister he has spoken of many injuries and extensive damage and we hope to bring you more information about the aftermath of what has happened earlier i as i mentioned i spoke to someone who witnessed the event explosion. so it's a huge explosion we're not sure until now what caused the explosive and the authorities are not confirming any investigation is on the way. peter baker with seaport so it was a apparently they were there are some boats then where there are some wounded people as they're trying to do all of that 100 people from the boats and from the surrounding area we're not sure at all still how big it is that they're stalled and how many wanted but for sure we have seen now down 15 flights it's being taken from the east side of the slow motion and there's a lot of glass because they the explosion there was a lot of pressure from the slow certains that i don't know where the session comes songs but it was this very strong so therefore over a larger radius. was flying everywhere in the city and therefore the number of people who were wounded something last so how far away are you then from where the explosion happened and where you yourself possibly in danger from flying glass and debris. yes i am about to you know meters away and in this state yes there was considerable destruction you know to. visit densher areas and the commotion of the civilian infrastructure was damaged i could say the damage is pretty serious and you know i have to remind you also that lebanon is going through a very serious economic crisis and also we have to quote on the virus outbreak so this adds to it and the situation is becoming more and more challenging we all seeing of startling pictures images but we are not hearing anything so when it happened what did you hear even though you were 2 kilometers away yes well there were 2 explosions we heard 2 explosions now we're not sure but there was that a kind of the 1st explosion we can see from the footage that was. there that there was a 1st a fire and a small explosion and that was followed by a lodge explosion and there are reports that say that there is a is that warehouse in the number 12 warehouse in the airport that contained some fertilizer and some fireworks how this is a very early to confirm this is the only place that minute he reports that we're out so we're not sure about that so we'll have to wait until the investigation you know moves forward the important thing now is will it i should be the one that people look at hospital although the explosion took place. maybe 2 i don't know how half hours to 3 hours it's all there are still people but haps trapped in buildings trapped in metal is that densher the place to stand there i mean there you know that cross distribute the fence to civilians not trying to but he moved the people 5 minutes ago he had all of the general security to. i know that but i mean visit to the fact of the explosion. and he he stressed that we should. you know make any prejudice let's wait for the investigations i know this is a very tense you know moment in lebanon well well tense more about that because obviously you talked about the economic pressures as well as of course the pressures exerted by the pandemic coronavirus can you give us just a brief picture of what the current political situation is like that at the moment in lebanon well you know there is the government is throwing killing because late of a corruption in the concious been so high and people haven't been asked that florida or accountable for corruption and so yes the day before yesterday we witnessed the yesterday we witnessed the resignation of the foreign minister who was immediately placed there seems to be you know a kind of tension in their country because also there is the judgment that the long awaited judgment of the 6 that you know for 11 on that looks into the assassination of prime minister how do you get scheduled to come out on. on a friday so so everybody is making the. coordination between this explosion. and the 2 judgment that these supposed to come out in a few days. i'm now joined by political analyst mark o'mara thank you for being with us your immediate reaction to this. was it was an extraordinary explosion and. already we've been warned not to conclusions there are already circulating will shields of nations theories about what has caused it and given lebanon's terribly politically explosive nature with its divisions between christians and muslims between different groups in. islams has been was shot supporters and recently supporters of mr hariri for instance you've got a very very explosive social context in which this is taking place and as we've just heard you have on friday the verdict in the trial all these people accused of blowing up russia kerry and prime minister 2005 so this could be the rest terrible accident but it's the worst possible training for such a patient because there are going to be a lot of people who will say in the middle east not nice to have an accident stand him. lebanon has seen plenty of situations like this though it's a country that can cope with this sort of thing. well you have to cope with this whole train in one sense people will have to pull shows together to rushing off the dust and deal with the wounded and bury the dead the problem is that because this is a car crash a nation of crises and we've heard already the moment crisis that really has ruined the lives of 80 percent or more lebanese in the last few months you have the health crisis caused by the coded infection you have also calls refugees from syria too and you have the political interesting so. people will wonder whether not so much that lebanon will survive on the map but whether it will not all of us internally break up into the kind of factions fighting that made life a misery for people a generation such so what would be the why don't we general implications if in effect lebanon collapsed. lebanon is to some extent opposite kate wait syria for instance that the effect on the syrian government will be quite from because to some extent despite the fact that many refugees from president assad's regime live in lebanon also it's a contact with the outside world. there's the whole question how this relate to israel is really government has rushed out a statement saying it's not it's doing is denying claims that is right there are times when we are and so on but of course as in the south of lebanon in the south beirut is always nice to tension with israel so there is a risk that the rumors of accusing israel but the truth also say denied by the already government could lead to a surge in violence along the border with israel so we could see not just internal tensions come to the surface in lebanon between the different groups but also ramifications in the neighboring area which is not exactly stable the best of times very complicated situation internal factions as you say within the country self and i've read some of your items in the press and he explained so brilliantly. can you give us a brief idea of what is actually happening internally apart from what's happening extending the pressures on the country. you have this great economic crisis that isn't caught created by. the tensions between entire lebanese really between those who were friends of the saudis and of rich gulf states who previously put money into lebanon but in the last few months particularly with the economic crisis caused by cold in the downturn in all prices on able and willing to support lebanon so much because they say that the governing alliance between hezbollah the shiite group and the christians would interest in doing something they don't like so the road you know which has been pulled monthly platinum american sanctions on lebanon's banks that deal with syria as well as of course caused the crisis with a country that is so dependent on importing things of crude steps to always critical economic tensions and then to say you have final culmination of this long weary process of trying to find out who killed prime minister rafiq hariri the extra minister in 2005 that's supposed to happen on friday and that's why this explosion is going to be seems happy with the trouble falls why so many people is in some sense a repetition all of that calamitous explosion back in 2008 because this is somebody trying.
