So i want to start with you professor wolf you know president tranfield im very optimistic right now following the latest jobs report and you look at the markets doing pretty well were talking to the current remarkable however do you think this is a fake a short term recovery being kind of propped up by government stimulus checks in taxpayer dollars absolutely theres a reactive a desperate all addition whose poll numbers are crashing the situation becomes more dire with each horrible days statistics about the pandemic and hes desperate and that was suddenly after weeks in which another stimulus has been talked about actually months finally now theyre doing something because the pandemic has gotten worse and his poll numbers also so yes it will be another stimulus another pumping of money in to try to keep this desperate situation from a literal collapse would would certainly end his election opportunity. You know dan im hearing pumping of money into the economy kind of might be the printing of money that republicans and tea partiers were talking about not so long ago do you think it odd that republican think looting President Trump are looking to push more government aid i mean this is this thing conservatives were literally throwing and getting angry at the democrats for doing. It doesnt surprise me at all both parties in washington are Big Government big spending parties its just propaganda misnomer to the idea that there are conservatives there who want to cut spending theyre both warfare welfare state parties Big Government parties and ill just how i would just comment on what was said before the reason the president s polling is is this following is not because hes done too little bit among his constituency they view that hes done too much and been too restrictive because of the coronavirus if you just simply look at the polls the opinions of Trump Supporters they dont want to be shut down they dont want to be locked down they dont want to have their jobs taken away. You would be you bring up a very good point and its actually a bad base right here which makes you wonder who would buy the president right now to issue another stimulus check to continue to keep things on lockdown i mean why is the president listening to his own base please ignore them and go back to the policies that we elected you to run on. While its difficult for the president now because on one hand he has he hes put in his lot with the fallacies of the world to say shut the country down his base does not want the country shut down and hes trying to go through uncharted territory in the process he has an economic collapse that was probably inevitable in the 1st place and some say that the covert hysteria was really designed to cover up an inevitable bursting of an economic bubble when you have the stock market going through the roof with no reason why you have a fake economy so it is a message. Capitalism in this new century we had the dot com crash in 2000 we had the subprime mortgage crash in 2008 and now we call this the pandemic crash 3 crashes in 20 years this is an unstable Economic System after each of these money was thrown at the economy more money in 2008 that in 2000 and now more money that in both of the earlier ones combine it does not work you need structural changes in this economy we have an instability of our capitalist system which when you put it together with the inequality it produces is 012 punch from which this economy emerged and the odd thing is you see like a bottom gyrating stock market in the midst of 3040000000 people unemployed is a kind of symptom that ought to wake people up. Well the interesting that you bring up that sort of here because professor wolf this next to me lets check theyre saying might only go to those they make 40000. 00 or less per year now i assume you probably dont believe in a reagan theory of trickle down economics but do you think that actually throwing money basically at the lower tier thats going to do anything to try to stabilize the Economic Situation were in. What is going to do is help and its good trump because it gets really poor people a little bit over a desperate period of time and perhaps he hopes that they will not blame him for the difficulties or that they will get through a little bit easier with this check but to your basic question no this will not solve this is not a structural change its a little bandaid on something that is approaching the dilemma of a cancer and so its a little bit of a craziness do it to help people through but as part of a program to really change the inequality that reads the kind of government at least is favoring the rich everything my colleague said is correct we dont agree out why that is for me state capitalism is the why did the land the private capitalism always has been its a way of solving its problems so you need to deal with bones questions which we as americans are so afraid of maybe a logically that we continue with the bandaids when what weve got is a cancer. Well i dive into that because then you talk about there every day between state capitalism versus private capitalism and see you again i understand that you want you like the private capital that i thought you said where do you see that state capitalism would not be beneficial in a situation or do you think its something that ultimately where were going. I dont like the term capitalism i think its an artificial term thats created artificially i prefer free markets which is people are allowed to do and engage in Economic Activity in any way they want state capitalism has another word its called fascism and i dont like that idea at all its a terrible Economic System so what we need is more freedom we dont need more government bailouts to well connected we dont need more government bailouts to Senate Majority leader mcconnells wife Robert Deniro all of these well connected people we dont need table scraps going to the poor and then theyre saddled with 60000. 00 in debt and they cant put their kids through school or feed their family and by the way their jobs are gone heres 1200. 00 sorry your job is gone you know thats terrific so thats not what we need at all we need not less out of washington not much more. Well and that hey im friends with im going to be this last question i want to ask you about you know our after hours think you probably are not mr much of a fan of them however when the 1st stimulus went through he said forget getting a stimulus checks why dont you actually do a payroll reduction reduce the payroll tax or a lemonade and actually keep people in their jobs but incentivize businesses that way to keep their owners do you think that would be a better approach. Each honor sooner or later you will have to recognize that basic questions of the system of that state capital that both have to be put back on the agenda or else will be serious about the problems that are out there really real. Well you know lets 1st talk 2016 it was so extraordinary and many of us that know politics and watch it for many years and i was chairman of the Missouri Republican party at the time donald trump was polling up by 4 in missouri until the day of election the election day he won by 19 so obviously something was wrong we all know that we see it the question is whats different now i actually think the numbers are worse now meaning theres more people that dont want to answer a poll and say theyre for trump because its not fashionable its not nice you dont know what youre going to be told ive written 3 books on trump and 4 or 5 if you include the adult coloring books and but i but i dont even offer that in a strange place until you get the lay of the land and he you know to trust me the democratic congresswoman from michigan they were last name slotkin she did a piece she was interviewed in a lengthy piece in politico not a right wing outlet today and she was saying hey look the polls are not right theres no way biden is up by that much and heres the last thing id say is whatever the polls are on july 10th they really dont matter because theres a lot of yesterday we finally heard biden say he wants Illegal Immigrants to get amnesty thats 11 to 20000000 illegals becoming american citizens thats going to change a lot of numbers Going Forward too so i wouldnt believe them at all and id be much more worried if i was in the biden camp than they seem to be. Well now david you come from a background of journalism and youve been following us for a while i have to ask you when you look at polls through the years maybe not even yet 2020 can hold be manipulated and that the reason why were seeing that. Well theyre manipulating all the time by the campaigns of course to try to energize their supporters and to depress their opponents i would say most mainstream polling organizations try to get it right but the problem that they have its figuring out whats the model in terms of who is going to turn out what percentage of whites and blacks and hispanics and women and men and suburbanites and thats where i think the models have been so messed up and to exploit yes people may not be honest now about donald trump but heres the other problem that democrats may have and maybe even republicans as well and that is look at the Enthusiasm Gap right now most republicans most donald Trump Supporters theyre going to get to the polls are going to find a way to vote no matter what the job im democrats to support is a little bit more soft and so if youre looking at polls that youre looking at mail and balloting it may be more difficult to actually test a ballot or for to tell on a belt for joe biden than to simply tell a pollster oh yeah im going to vote for joe biden i think thats why the polls are indeed a little bit closer than they suggest right now. Well i think you can head to that moment david i want to ask you know why would the polls want to accurately report a candidate for winning why would they not want to see more on on tap what would be that benefit i mean how doesnt it hurt their credibility it should hurt their credibility but a lot of News Organizations love to run a poll particulate it has a dramatic result because it gets that News Organization plenty of mentions plenty of traffic to their website or to their story and thats where they pay for these polls and they do them so often but again i think its more the political pundits the campaigns the staff the surrogates theyre the ones who are going to pick up the data and say look of course maybe donald trump is down by 12 d or 13 points in nationwide polls but they will tell you which happens i think to be accurate the delegates within 5 or 6 points in states like florida pennsylvania wisconsin the states that are going to determine this election so in a way the National Polls are largely irrelevant it matters where things are going to go state by state and again whos going to be closest to having the most accurate model in terms of the demographics that are going to actually show up on election day.
