Going to be along in just a little bit with more on this developing story while on the subject of apologies heres an interesting story we need to bring you the New York Times is acknowledging that the people of bolivia all but had their election stolen from them the times now writes that socalled Election Fraud fraud in bolivia that was used as an excuse or a pretense to remove a democratically elected president that fraud accusation they say it was a lie. Think about what i just said so evil morellos was elected. Fairly it seems and democratically within less than 48 hours after he was elected the European Union the organization of american states and the United States state department declared his Election Fraudulent which fomented a coup causing the elected president to leave the country only to be replaced by a new president one that is more to the liking of washington and the oas and the e. U. So shouldnt surprise anyone that this type of foreign election meddling took place shouldnt surprise anybody that the socalled fraudulent election used to remove a president turns out now to be not a fraud. No it should not surprise you in fact it does not surprise you not if you regularly watch this newscast i want to take you back 4 months ago february 27th right here on this set when i reported what the New York Times is reporting now. His election was fraudulent they said well theres now a group of experts who have come forward theyve looked through all the details the Statistical Analysis and what they have concluded is the election was clean. That was me then so here i have now tell you whats going on with the New York Times because now 4 months later the New York Times is admitting that the socalled Election Fraud conclusion was flawed thats the word they use in their article but thats not where they leave the story interestingly enough then in what appears like a case of double speak the New York Times is writing that it doesnt mean that the election in bolivia was free and fair. And they cite a source who says quote there was fraud we just dont know how much but which is it i mean if youll pardon me for the journalistic comparison here its kind of like saying that look theres no proof that i rick sanchez beat my wife but theres evidence somewhere they just dont know how much. By the way by that standard let me also ask this question what election anywhere in the world including ours is perfectly fair and without criticism and one more question. What happens now i mean does that guy the elected official president evo morales does he get his office back and he was seemingly according to the New York Times cheated out of. This is the news with rick sanchez again where we cover a story you will simply not see anywhere on c. N. N. Or on fox or on the b. B. C. Or on n. B. C. Because we believe its time to do news again. Asking the morrow if evo morales as election was not fraudulent why is it he the president should a show about cops where a death occurred be canceled pulled and despite the sino us friction is wow way a fixture that simply is not going to go away. All right lets go ahead and again with the latest out of bolivia this is a country where like so many others before it it had foreign meddling in its election its quite clear today that that happened if you didnt believe it before you Better Believe it now and if you happen to have a lot of american roots as i do right then you would probably know that this has been going d on now in this in that part of the world latin america for more than a century and apparently its still going on here with more on this bolivia story is r t correspondent john hardy. In december 2019 the New York Times published a story titled Election Fraud aided evo morales International Panel concludes with a subhead about the charges of voting fraud that led to protests and the exile of bolivian president evo morales being confirmed in a final report by the washington d. C. Based think tank the organization of american states or oas for short the oas report concluded that bolivias election was marred by widespread deliberate fraud well fast forward to june 7th and a long piece in the times sunday edition last week about a bitter election accusations of fraud and now 2nd thoughts about those accusations oh boy the times writes that a new study by independent researchers quote using data obtained by the New York Times from the bolivian electoral authorities has found the oas is Statistical Analysis was itself flawed why because it relied on incorrect data and inappropriate statistical techniques. The Election Fraud allegations led to violent protests in bolivia and charges against morale is terrorism and sedition braless fled bolivia to mexico city on nov 10th and was granted political asylum replacing him as interim president was janine on yes. Alleges conservative of european descent backed by the United States stands as a contrast to morale a socialist party and Indigenous Roots u. S. Officials and some academics quickly supported the oas his findings and morality his ouster in fact u. S. Secretary of state mike pompei a tweeted back in november quote fully support the findings of the oas official report recommending new elections in bolivia to ensure a truly democratic process representative of the peoples will the credibility of the electoral system must be restored its noted that there was likely some Election Fraud in bolivia so how much and where remains unclear the oas report was done quickly so its likely not all the election data was thoroughly analyzed further some argue that the medias akko chamber added to the overall contention and confusion in a feb 27th that in the Washington Post to noted mit researchers disputed the oas report saying vitter Research Found no reason to suspect fraud writing that quote the media has largely reported the allegations of fraud as fact and of a morale is meanwhile is now in argentina where he was granted Refugee Status and continues to rail against what he calls it with the us backed coup that drove him from office 7 months later there are still no elected government and no official new election date for the news with Rick Sanchez John hardy. Joining us now r. J. Producer of latin america expert holds a ph d. On the subject and reka rivera thanks america for joining us. Here you have a guy who was elected who is not the president and it turns out that the reason we used. There was wrong graduate i mean is he going to get it is he going to get his job back thats a complicated question and im going to give you a complicated answer no. No hes not going to get his word if. Theyre not going to give him his job. Back. In argentina theyve been pushing the elections back back back back to be in december march may now theyre saying september this will be a caretaker government that held the held the reins for 3 months and theyve been holding on to it for this long this reminds me of this rule in journalism that we all study when we go to Journalism School that its not correct to do a correction too long after word because it has no value if i put today in the works and shows harold or the r. T. Harold that Enrique Rivera is a wife beater back on that subject and then i never touch it again and its out there for 4 months people are hearing and reading that youre a wife beater and then somehow 4 months later i say oh by the way hes not a wife beater youve done the damage the damage is done the people lost their president they lost their election they lost their election the damage is insured mountable almost to my crazy no youre not crazy youre absolutely right and i mean we need to look at this as a crime this was a terrible terrible crime we put together a slide that kind of indicates how radical a change has been made so. The bolivian people whos a staunch opponent to us interventionism and who runs a mixed economy has benefited by lifting a lot of people out of poverty lets look at Foreign Policy they allowed us aid back into the country that have been banned in 2013 for funding the opposition funneling millions of dollars to them establish relations with israel called embassies in. Recognized as president this all falls in line with the u. S. And what they term a countrys policies upside down ultimately upside down lets go to the economic stuff that they they that theyve changed so weve talked a lot about lithium and lithium production and how important this was in the role that this may have played in the coup right so the bolivian government ran state spots they ran. Enterprises related to with lithium these production processes have halted completely and the government has called for International Investment like i said this is a crime no this is this this country has been completely looted and and its really unfortunate well see in september if theyre allowed to have free and Fair Elections like they had last time luis who is a member of morales his party is leading all the polls lets see if they let him win you know its funny how when i turn on the television here in the United States and i turn on whatever and b. C. In particular all i hear is about no one has the right to meddle in another countrys election especially when they try to get in there with like with social media and tweets and. Charles weve done this we do it all the time this is where is this story and im the defender of morale is i mean i think its a little bit of a lefty you know im not but they elected him thats their guy not mine what the hell business is it of ours weve got to stop doing this it seems coming up again but it just doesnt seem right no its not right and were at a time where the New York Times is issuing a policy edisons of good editors are getting fired left and right. We should see the same thing with international which thats a good thats a good point thats a good point thanks so much and really great point. Its great coverage im glad we did that this is the news a very sad shows on youre watching our special coverage we will be right back. Something for you. Oh you. An ocean of stories even the news. Can overwhelm you. Your way i know you want to. Bring you the bad. Play. Your questions birth new question. Number. And list as the same and bring all in so just death. If dr. In question. Im a journalist its all i know being a truth teller people say i make among come from good news is like a jackhammer good drill down to find the truth news with rick sanchez because its time to do news again and question more. I like it when the hosts ask a question for the guests and then actually listens to the guests answer and then react to that thats a folks Dennis Miller here ive got a new show. Ok welcome back rick sanchez here now to another example of a suspect saying he cant breathe coming to a Police Arrested happened in austin texas this time were a motorist failed to stop when a Police Officer tried to pull him over warning you might find this somewhat disturbing but here it is this is the video. Shows body cam that youre looking at shows him holding the suspect down who later died after announcing. He tells the Police Officer i have a heart condition and i cant breathe and then he perishes so obviously theres a controversy. Theres a criminal case but heres why im doing this story this story is making headlines beyond just what you saw there beyond this incident itself it turns out that the Police Officer who was involved in the suspects death was being filmed while he was doing it he was being filmed for a Television Show thats called live p. D. Since then the show has been taken off the air and so has another popular almost another popular iconic show its called cops sure youve heard of that one. Are those shows too exploitive theres so much to talk about in this case including the fact by the way that the video that was shot apparently theyre not going to turn it in they say they may have deleted it joining us know Award Winning journalist Ruben Navarrette and desi robinson who is the director of the Media Program of a Media Program at Columbia University and my thanks to both of you does he want truong with a show like this i believe its called live p. D. Or cops for that matter doing this type of thing. Well 1st hey rick its good to be on and i think the question is whats what is it wrong with a show like this i think its important to understand that there is a fair amount of Media Literacy that needs to happen in situations its and when we think of Reality Television its really important to understand that it is it reality. Yeah and so these are really crested narratives that do nothing more than foment stereotypes and sort of the basis understanding of who we think marginalized people are and so these shows are harmful. For several reasons but but largely it is because it continues to glorify people who continue to do incredible amounts of harm in marginalized communities but ruben let me bring you in here folks on the other side would say look its a business its a Television Show we put a camera on cops they go out there they arrest people theyre block theyre white theyre drunk theyre making fools of themselves we put all d. V. We make a lot of money whats wrong with that its the american way baby. Right they also say that shows are the are not the areas you showed you not car people who behave badly when theyre pulled over by police theyre already behaving badly thats why they were pulled over by police. There is something to be said the Police Officers are behaving badly on the show and thats the problem that they did a lot of the worst thing about the showed the cause of the camera more likely paid to be harder on a crack because it makes for Good Television they want to call back next week for another segment thats a problem and thats why the shows are dangerous because they encourage the Police Officers to go overboard and perhaps up quite the camera in ways they should not thats a great point speaking of that in this particular case the parents of the suspects say my son was killed by a car pool was acting for a camera he was trying to be a tough guy because of that should that videotape now be turned over to the police because apparently then abrams of live t. V. Is saying no desi im not going to turn them in fact hes saying they may have deleted it. Well i think thats absolutely ridiculous its obviously part information thats part of an investigation but i think what what what is. Is were funny use analogies of cameron playing to the camera we need to really pull that lens back because these shows also further this idea that we have good cops and that we have awful terrible people in our society that need to be policed and so what it doesnt do is it doesnt include in any part of this narrative that has been crafted the systemic failures that put people in these positions in the 1st place and so in force soul we going to look at the most marginalized people doing the most horrendous things in our society and were not going to examine what puts them there in the 1st place and then were. Just being entertained by the by the flaws of our society and so it does nothing to examine the systemic failures that put people in marginalized positions in the 1st place you know the words theyre going out there. The bias right ruben that what does hes saying is that the agreement. On the going out there youre right and hes right but theyre not providing the backstory in the context for how these situations come to be thats a lot to ask of a t. V. Segment like the one were doing now a column that i am i right or even a Research Paper that he might write its a lot to ask these t. V. Shows that they go back and show with the entire context as to how we end up in this situation they are exploiting Human Behavior and im causing that behavior but theyre exploiting but im very troubled much more troubled by the fact that this evidence has been destroyed i dont buy it this was an accidental you know move by the t. V. Stations at all i think the producers who run the show need to have a Good Relationship with a Police Officer to help and Police Departments and heat and or to go forward with this show and i think this was destroyed on purpose because they knew very well rick when they went home that night they knew what they had done and they knew what was on camera and they knew this would come back if i thought yeah i could see you saying we generally destroy everything every 34 months or whatever but when you know that someone died during that incident and you have it on tape and you dont destroy that that seems negligent call me crazy but that seems negligent that he thinks and ruben th
