From our studios in moscow this is our International Im sean thomas certainly glad to have you with us. All right civil unrest is spreading across the u. S. As anger over the death of george floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police boils over demonstrations have erupted in cities across the country since the fatal incident last monday amid looting torched buildings and violent clashes with police the full mobilization of the National Guard was announced is the 1st time that has happened since world war 2. What. If they dont want to give us justice and theyre not going to be any peace so much go we are tired his name was george clooney. I want i want change we all want change. We got white people thank you Storm National buildings and the stake in a countrys capital with a yours but if they see us with a rock they can shoot us in the face with rubber bullets if they see us with anything that looks like a good they can kill it on a daily basis. This is what you get when you dont hold other cops accountable when you let them kill other people when you let them kill us when you dont hold your partner accountable this is it this is. Protesters have been targeting Police Stations and patrol cars during the week and they were demanding the arrest of the officer who kneeled on floyds neck before he died something that has now happened on a charge of 3rd degree murder now the fatal arrest happened on monday 3 officers were there as well and stood by as floyd was pinned to the ground by amy for almost 10 minutes earlier i spoke with George Floyds uncle about the tragic event. This young man stands over you know when hes with his knee on his neck. And. The whole process was 9 minutes and 27 seconds and its never seen anybody executed. 800000000 people in the world and by minutes he had security because he called for his mother asked her years ago tomorrow and. He went blank and. Hes never said another word and this young man that stood over him with his knee on his neck he had a. A monster look in his eye like you know what. This is my job to gaze at literally thats what it seemed like. A didnt had no emotion he didnt have any did not get any remorse it looked like he was housed in after a big animal kill a big gang was telling what it looked like he would just stand in there. Just absolutely blank. They said that my nephew died at the hospital well. There were 30 people standing around theres an angel and i mean. That took the video and i talked and shes told me shes like mr jones like. I realize where do you know what we got some in common watch it just young lady because i seen their ways of me you can come in here if you guys you. Know on the streets of minneapolis minnesota 5 oclock in the military i didnt give young men literally my nephew he didnt look like pete. Good whatsoever. And they came to stay a risk to him the particular one the head is the only state yesterday. And therefore it was full of them and the other 3. Has not been. Has not even been approached. Crowds of protesters have gathered outside the white house where tensions have been running high. Right. Earlier president trouble warned protesters over breaching the white house promoter and said anyone who did would be met by the secret service with vicious dogs and quote ominous weapons them strangers have pushed security barricades down pennsylvania avenue while Police Responded with tear gas trump himself is not even at the white house but instead is in florida where he attended the space x. Rocket launch on saturday. The situation is also tense right now in Los Angeles Police have been firing rubber bullets at the crowds there with the authorities using batons on demonstrators as well during clashes several patrol cars were vandalized and the city has seen large scale protests with over 500 people arrested on friday night. To r. T. Americas natasha sweet who is in l. A. Natasha talk to me about the situation on the ground there what is that been like in l. A. This weekend was it a sudden burst of tension there or as a kind of been building throughout the week. Well you know the initial protests that happened in minneapolis and los angeles was the 1st city to have a break of protest so there has been some tension here from the very beginning after this is happening you know there was a lot of outrage certainly and now as you know theres more than 30 cities there are participating in some type of protest for cross the country after the death of george floyd and as you mention you know was a night there were more than 500 people who were arrested in Downtown Los Angeles but we have protests that are there happening in several places across the city here in l. A. We have you know protests happening downtown we have protests happening in the Fairfax District now thats near a popular mall called to grow so thats closer to even the hollywood area here not as to mill you with this area and at least one please hers were damaged and the other 2 were just set on fire today and 5 cops were also percs downtown so we know that mary said he spoke and not too long ago and hes talking about having in pm curfew so that the same thing wont happen that we saw all last night that the only black lives matter protesters who basically started this movement theyre seeing that police have been brutal that theyve been violent and. Not as peaceful as as the mayor has been saying that they work and we understand in oakland. 2 federal officers were shot and one of those officers dying as a result i think we have a sound bite from the us. Last night in Oakland California an assassin cowardly shot to federal protective Service Contractors as they stood watch over a protest one officer was killed and the other is in Critical Condition the f. B. I. The Oakland Police supported by the department of Homeland Security are investigating that attack when someone targets a Police Officer or a Police Station with an intention to do harm and intimidate that is an act of domestic terrorism. And at least 7500 protesters took to the streets in oakland demonstrators causing great damage all across the city there fires were set officials reporting cases and vandalism and to local businesses and while many arrests were made police were not very specific if. The actual shooters of those Police Officers were arrested so still a lot of Unanswered Questions here and the chaos is just beginning all right natasha suite one of our colleagues there in the United States in l. A. Specifically stay safe and thank you for staying across the situation for us thank you. All right over 30 cities in the u. S. Have seen protests curfews have been imposed across minnesota but also in Atlanta Los Angeles cincinnati denver louvel and portland the National Guard has been drafted in for a number of those states now of over work when new york thousands took to the streets and clashed with police freelance journalist William Whiteman was following the events for us. Im now standing in front of a line of police. Just moments ago they attacked us completely unprovoked i owe. These are Different Police than what weve been seeing the rest of the march so i think getting over it was normal Police Officers no weapons or nothing like that we now have police homed with billy clubs and they attacked demonstrators completely unprovoked were being people who are completely unarmed it was a very very aggressive show of force the police are definitely a lot more militarized now and i have seen the organizers here really excellent people from direct confrontations with the Police Actually seen them directly and so be you know a couple of moments where certain individuals tried to. Attack the police as you can see now they are now showing their own mother and 6 when we were going to when we were trying to when we were down we. Were prying pressure and chasing the police now. Where the one saying with the line of protest. There was several Police Officers who became isolated because barricades were put out in front of the police car. And theyre effectively ambushed there were several projects house road as you can see thats one of the custom for us now its been smashed tries today is going on things are really heating up certainly not used by us the ponderous and as weve seen in the previous days of protests when that happens. You know how tense to break loose but here in downtown brooklyn where we are now it has been. Just pandemonium for the last couple of hours i would say. After protests overnight on friday the new York Police Department claimed to agitators were at play in the city. We not just the Police Department but all of new york city suffered last night after professional and organized agitators cause havoc on the city resulting in violence injured Police Offices and the destruction of property the mayor of minneapolis is urging the public to stay home explaining that large crowds gives cover to people intent on committing crime he also called the violent riots quote domestic terrorism and many of the areas that have seen protests over George Floyds death have also seen significant looting here you can see scenes in portland where people are emptying out an apple store. And anybody comes by over the water you know for the good feel welcome and hopefully you know this will help so that they will come and destroy our property here. Was. The right way to do list do it right that you know im. Pretty sure is in your gut this are actually going to go back down there protect people businesses and run away like that. But you got to fix it forget it you got to do it. Mr mayhem a friend of George Floyds a family says people want justice. People dont know but this is like our baby for Police Killing in our community you know even peaceful you know and right now were just were fed up this anger thats been boiled over multiple deaths in our community so i was surprised by the reaction from this debt they tried to implement a curfew for us it worked at all were still angry most angry behind that you know up there were more buildings that burned down after we found out about. The 3rd degree charge it is just it was it was definitely intentional theres actually 4 officers that that thats involved in this crime and this act of murder we want to all to be charged with murder at least 2nd degree murder intentional because when you sit there and you have down on a mans neck for 10 minutes you know and theyre screaming and tell you that they cant breathe you know what i mean. You know your antics of the killer this mean you know people dont know they both were you know. Big floyd was a bouncer at a same place where this guy was doing security at and they know each other well you know this guy this is like his 3rd 2nd or 3rd homicide as a Police Officer as a Police Officer you know we want the right charges to be you know present. Were not going to stop. This is not going to stop you know you can you can implement all these curfew rules this martial all were fed up this is and it has been well over 6 years and years and years of anger behind the senseless deaths you know weve been getting murdered in cold blood by the people theyre supposed to protect us. You know what i mean. Its not its not going to its not going to end well here. In his latest speech us President Donald Trump slammed the riots on protesters while hinting that the unrest will end very soon. The mobs are devastating the lifes work of good people and destroying their dreams right now America Needs creation not destruction cooperation not contempt security not anarchy and there will be no anarchy my administration will stop mob violence. And will stop it cold Police Violence against americas black community has long fueled calls for reform and yet the country still sees a significant number of deadly incidents we spoke with educator and activist tookie wright who is and to died after an incident involving the police. Usually theres no outcome that includes justice were dealing with the fact that our skin has a certain tone that people treat you differently and it doesnt matter if you are walking your dog in central park and youre a harvard graduate or if you live in boise idaho and you are you know whatever your background is as long as you are in the skin you know some people call it that the skin that youre in is the sin and so youre treated as less equal youre treated as equal and so imagine being a large black man being the strong physically strong looking black man you automatically being approached with. With with violence as a 1st resort and its just an ongoing pattern of abuse the amount of pressure that black people go through every day you know people would be a jumping off a bridge every day if they had to live in the skin that we live in. But what has to happen is that Police Officers need to be held accountable for their actions they need to be and other Police Officers when they see wrongdoing need to actually speak up and Say Something is wrong theres something called a thimble a lot of you know this code of silence that happens where Police Officers are not speaking up and in this case we see a lot of Police Officers in other cities speaking up but we really need to see minneapolis and st paul Police Officers speak up and say that this is wrong because anybody with any kind of sense can look at that video and see that that is a murder. Lee merritt the civil rights attorney representing George Floyds a family described to us a longstanding pattern of Police Brutality against ethnic minorities in the u. S. Americas the Deadliest Police culture in the modern world there is no nation on the planet that kills in a car so its more of his people we are in a crisis position Tony Ben Crump and i announced this morning that we are taking these families the family of george floyd a model be on a tailor to washington d. C. And we want to discuss comprehensive Police Reform were all spirit bringing this case before the United NationsHuman Rights Council so that we can receive sanctions against the United States for its provisions and continual denial of basic human rights to the africanamerican community. Which right now are met our primary goal is to show to ensure that the appropriate charges move forward and so we are not satisfied yet 3rd degree murder is an appropriate charge that means it was an accidental killing like manslaughter the the the partner charge they they levied if i get in my car again i get drunk i dont intend to kill anybody but its reckless behavior that could result in somebodys death thats manslaughter this 3rd degree murder but when i apply pressure for sustained period of time to a critical area of someones throat. Thats and its all about foreseeability its foreseeable that that kind of action will result in death or Bodily Injury so thats murder were looking forward to speaking with the governor on behalf of the the family and encouraging him to activate the attorney general keith ellis to come in take over this in this case bring the appropriate charges and make the requisite arrest. When the family is very concerned about the safety of the public these people are standing up not only for george theyre standing up for themselves is standing up for the community but theyre doing so by standing up against begin one of the most Brutal Police forces on the planet and i dont mean minnesota i mean the American Police force in general they only know 2 things incarceration and brutality and so they are concerned that when. Interlopers come and break things and bird things that invites harm to other peoples children they dont want to see that happen. Im now joined live from minneapolis by a local reporter down to henderson who has been following events for us there on the ground 1st of all. Thank you for being with us and make sure that you stay safe because as you are very well aware situation there is quite volatile and harrowing images what is the response right now. Is it going to be required to get people back off the streets and bring an end to these protests and riots. Whats going on here now 1st of all the everyone would also be alert that. The military are now out in the curfew is. Live here all day basically they want the dulces arrested and they dont want this to happen anymore to black people. To confess. I understand and so right now it seems like its not very volatile but you can hear some screaming can hear some noise can you explain to me whats happening around you d. So what im at
