Transcripts For RT Watching The Hawks 20240713
Greetings and sell you. Welcome back my hawk watching friends as we begin a new week in the age of 19 here in the
United States
of america recent days have brought us a tale of 2 protests one featured americans split all walks of life joining together to take out a corrupt system of oppression that is robbing people of their livelihoods and liberty in a time of crisis the other featured lots and lots of predominantly white people and very well armed americans throwing temper tantrums over not being able to go to the store. I bet i bet you cannot guess which one of these 2 protests are brand name in chief the want to know me
President Donald Trump
himself indorsed well if you guessed the largest rent strike in nearly a century well thank you for playing but you can go home and sort of the landlord is never. Never ever ever ever going to get behind a rent strike no no
President Trump
took to twitter to throw his support to the armed lemming hordes protesting in front of the state capitals across the land tweeting the governor of michigan should give the little one and put out the fire these are these are very good people but they are angry they want their lives back again safely see them talk to them make deals with. This from the man who an unarmed n. F. L. Players simply took a need during the match and land them to protest the killing of their
Black Brothers
and sisters by
Police Officers
proudly exclaimed the following. When you love to see one of these n. F. L. Owners when somebody disrespects our flag to say get that son of a bitch off the field right now out the sky. I guess that logic means that heavily armed protests over being asked to stay at home for a few months during a pandemic is a far greater loss of liberty and far more noble a cause than you know protesting the loss of liberty that comes from getting shot to death by a cop. Yes my friends a tale of 2 protesters where we begin our show today one focused on forcing the government to help those who are being economically savaged by rent and mortgage prices the other just simply partisan rage brought on by selfishness codify by
White Privilege
and justified by trumped up years and its that these crossroads that we will start watching the hawks. In the city streets. That are so slick see this crisis joyce state see. This great city this least systemic dissent says so which would be so but still. Well hormones are watching the entire rover and im in the shop so boy oh boy we do have 2 different mass protests happening across the land right now one is for getting rid of rent or mortgage payments right now the other is for. I dont know not being able to go to the store we live in these protests couldnt be more separate the groups couldnt have more divergent views and ideas of what democracy moving forward actually means and one group couldnt be more to own death so you have this group that it makes perfect sense that they are arguing for refreezes that they are arguing for you know freezes on mortgage payments and things like that because were in the middle of a pandemic hundreds of thousands of jobs have already been lost many more to be lost by june what else are these individuals going to do and its also something that congress has looked at as well and as you stated we have a c. Doing a lot of work in leading forward and you know pushing some some some bills and trying to get attention around this shes been doing it for years at this point but now you know with the pandemic its something that is in the national spear and then we have these white men majority in here and confederate flags mixing that with american flags in full on militia gear carrying weapons pushing spitting on acting belong clouds of
Police Officers
in the basically a push to show that now they want to get their haircuts now they want to go to
Grocery Stores
and not wear a mask now they want to go to beaches somehow they feel their liberty is being taken away because of social distancing heres the thing no ones ordered martial law and until there is an order of martial law where you actually have soldiers and police out on the streets telling you ordering you not to leave your home you will be arrested or shot on sight if you do when that day comes that i understand you know but until then the state homeowners are not law theyre not you know but cant penalize you they cant give you fines if you leave your house. At the end of the day this shows a gross misunderstanding of the constitution or simple almost also
American History
in general and the fact that civic this and taught in our classrooms anymore because the fact that these individuals are running around saying that this is against their liberty that social distancing is something that is causing them to lose one of their fundamental rights thats a problem you know it is it is a major problem and i think that we have to not only educators understand were coming from theyre coming from a place of fear theyre getting juiced up by their leaders saying oh theyre taking away your rights theyre taking away your liberty i understand that theres a fear everyone no one wants to see their liberty taken away but where were these people when you saw like you know hundreds of thousands you know when you saw these hundreds of immigrants getting rounded up and thrown into
Ice Detention Centers
getting their freedom and liberty taken away you cant just be selective if youre going to fight for peoples freedom and liberty youve got to do it across the board you cant just wait for it to come and knock on your doorstep but you mentioned about the strikes brought up a great point about these red states she said quote people are striking because they dont feel like paying rent theyre striking because they cant pay rent thats the difference these people can do something theyre saying i cant pay rent you cannot charge me for this so im just not going to pay absolutely and thats a very important distinction to make because individuals arent just sitting on a pot of cash and deciding you know what im going to buy these shoes today and not a marine thats not whats happening here these are individuals who otherwise would have been able to pay it we are very clear that a pandemic has caused major upheaval in personal finance in the
Global Economy
and a lot of the industry and infrastructure that america is built on it only makes sense to be able to allow these individuals a respite of time to be able to recoup and get back on their feet and represent real or more of minnesota actually introduced legislation that would cancel all rent and home mortgages payments for the duration of the covert 19 crisis heard legislation according to a website says quote the virus catastrophic the red mortgage council. Would constitute a full payment forgiveness with no accumulation of debt for renters or almost no negative impact on their
Credit Rating
or rental history so years of thing i want to see these people who are out protesting right now protest the right things dont protest the stay at home orders protest the fact that your government didnt have anything in place to protect you during these hard times thats what you should be protesting not storming the capitol with guns which by the way if there was any other group of white people theyd been shot dead before they even got to
Capitol Grounds
that big came up just like the cold goes absolutely i mean we i know as an africanamerican person that any type of any type of weaponry or even a cell phone card whatever it is that you might have in your hands equals you dying you dont have to have any type of weaponry so this is really really shocking and upsetting at the same time. The coronavirus this catastrophic consequences to the
Global Economy
peoples livelihoods and wellbeing are well documented the bias is changing everything about how we function some of these changes are to protect us from the spread of covert 19 other changes are selfimposed particularly to wade through economic trouble its predicted that american women will see another dip in childbirth due to more women delaying parenthood thats typically what happens after a
Major Economic
downturn the us saw this in 2008 as the
Housing Market
crashed due to employment uncertainty and the living wage opportunities childbirth continues to decrease but being able to control when and if you become a mother is a luxury the coronavirus is having a devastating impact on women globally according to the

Food Shortages
continue to grow and unplanned pregnancy during the height of a pandemic when millions of jobs are washed away in a matter of weeks is no cause for celebration access to
Family Planning
is not only a human right but key to independence for many women across the globe are women and girls of reproductive age thanks to crisis and structural inequality already add an intimate pregnancy to the mix and economic insecurity skyrockets its only exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic womens

says during this crisis yet its attributed to a few things 1st of all if were talking about a lot of the a lot of our global nations part of this is the surge in a lot of child weddings were seeing a lot of forced marriages among young people during this pandemic were also seeing a lot of abuse women during this pandemic and we are seeing more and more women not have access to these preventative measures because a lot of the clinics are close so they cant get access to
Birth Control
because a lot of the clinics have lost or were losing funding even before the pandemic happened the access to
Birth Control
has been limited as well truly just its frightening to think about that because its you know we want people to be safe from this from this disease but at the same time we also all people being put into making their situations even more dangerous or more desperate either so you know what you know is there are things that we can do that people should be doing to head this off absolutely there are there are several sites right now that are up and running that are supposed to be able to help women to locate areas where they can go for preventative care. Or care to make sure that they have access to 2 different 2 different modes of being able to protect themselves from plain pregnancies but it depends on where you live one of the issues that we have is that those places arent necessarily as a bailable not even in america much less countries that are lesser developed been ours theyre not available everywhere or equally to everyone its messed up too because you mentioned the issue of seeing this wild
Child Marriage
s to which to me just is like one of the most
Disgusting Things
i ever see children you should not be giving children married thats where the worst practice is that youve nothing justifies that to be we continue to fight you know in terms of womens movements womens empowerment trying to eradicate some of these very disastrous things that happen to young women and girls over time the
Child Marriage
issue isnt something that is going away its largely not as much in the headlines today as it was 10 years ago but its something that continues to go on across the globe particularly in areas where there is a lot of strife where there are wars where there is where there are shortages of food when you see it tend to uptick in those times it is and thats exactly what are we dealing with now but massive strife across the globe is everyones deal with this thing and you know we have to remember that like thats part of the response i mean on the male side of it part of our responsibility is to help people far and equality and people who are our sisters and our wives and our mothers and people like that be you know thrown under the bus for lack of a better term during a time of
National Emergency
these are those moments that my side of the gender also has to step up and say hey you know what if you know that this person is abusive do something about it if you can help this person just bring over some prophylactics do something i mean its that stupid but that simple you know absolutely anything that it has to also be recognized that one of the main reasons why women have been able to progress in education in the workforce in becoming you know expanding their families is because theyve been able to plan those families many young women did not have the opportunity to go to call. Or to even get through high school because of early an unplanned pregnancies one of the reasons why america is light years ahead in many cases in terms of womens prowess in what theyre doing and the graduation numbers of the women in the workforce is soley driven by the fact that a lot of women have had access to
Birth Control
in nations where that is not the case women are typically a lot further behind. And because the womans right to choose a powerful powerful i think beautiful thing im fully support of a womans right to choose because ultimately it is she is the one who has to be saddled with the gift and burden for 9 months and then taking care of that child afterwards you know and to me its like we have to be supportive of that and we have to also be as a as a country as a society say hey what kind of burden does this provide and how can we best help this person and keep them from having to make a terrible choice in the 1st place absolutely right now we have a half the global population of children living in endemic poverty many of them dont have
Running Water
they dont have access to they dont have access to food they dont have electricity were talking about young people who are born into born into families born with parents who have absolutely nothing and in many cases women would not have made that choice if they had other options if they were able to plan their pregnancies thats what makes this so important in the years that is the ability to have that option in the empower choices empowering right i mean thats the basic rule of the of the bill is that weve you have a choice you are empowered whether its choice about the future of making a family or a choice about what job you want to get or whatever you want to get the choices where power comes from and at the end of the day choice is what

Party Candidates would already be on the road to getting it done but with colbert 19 in state who orders collecting signatures is impossible this poses a huge problem for 3rd
Party Candidates michigan congressman justin amash a republican with libertarian leanings buying for the libertarian nomination is making headlines but if the
Libertarian Party cant expand its
Ballot Access little attention will be paid to any of its eventual nominees thats the same date the green party will have their ways to stay in the fight and maintain a following and here to discuss this and more is
National Director for the movement for
Peoples Party nick brand. Nick always great to be with you always a pleasure having you talk of a 2 party system kind of crumbling and voters seeking other options we hear that every president ial election cycle but what makes this one in 2020 so uniquely different from the times report of it before. Whats different is that this time people have been brought to the brink in a way that theyve never been brought to the brink before as a result of coronavirus of the stats that a lot of the you guys discussed just before this i mean 30000000. 00 people unemployed nearly a 3rd of people who couldnt pay rent last month likely to be this month and so this time there people are also seeing the bipartisan agreement that is coming together around bailing. Wall street and big business leaving essentially
Small Businesses and working people out in the cold they bailed out wall street and then they skipped town and theyre only now just coming back to discuss essentially more bailouts that are getting siphoned up by big business. And nick has code 19 reshaped democracy we know that its changing the face of this election cycle but overall do you think that there are changes that kobe 19 has brought for better or worse for a democratic system of government. Well theres no question that its changing the way that the electorate feels about these 2 parties in particular the biggest problem is not necessarily that theyre fighting or that theres too much partisanship its that theres too much bipartisanship theres too much agreement around solving the around essentially serving the interests that they business but not working people and so now we have this dynamic where theres a majority of americans who want a major new party this is actually consistent trends its been increasing for years and the same is true of people who are leaving the 2 parties by the millions and this is also been a consistent trend for years where to the point at which 42 percent of americans are now independents and there is an ocean of people who want a major new party. 3rd
Party Candidates the people who are running on the 3rd party moderate career libertarian green independent whatever how can very flourish in this moment because its the window is here now and its open how can they both utilize the window. I think the way to do it is to contrast with the 2 parties that are putting themselves so essentially so clearly not on the side of working people to very clearly state with a very clear package of things that working people need to survive at this moment i mean its not a mystery and were in the middle of a pandemic we need medicare for all we dont need to be saying that we should be told it like joe. Biden is you know we need also a 2000 per month universal basic income this is something that russia to leave and the congresswoman and also
Bernie Sanders have gotten behind and some other politicians in congress we also need a complete suspension of mortgage and rent payments you can it is not reasonable to expect people who are living paycheck to paycheck the 80 percent of americans who are living paycheck to paycheck before this crisis to be paying rent when they have no more income. And nic what are some ways around the
Ballot Access issue and if we talk about that we want to make sure that everyone understands you know what the impact of the
Ballot Access issue is but there are seems to be so mwave that 3rd
Party Candidates might be able to get around it specifically in terms of how to make the media pay them attention we know if youre not on the ballot in certain states media largely ignores you as a candidate. Thats right
Ballot Access has been made more difficult than it is for the major parties by the major party thats no surprise they rigged the political system in their favor but theres a
Tipping Point when people get fed up and then we can overcome those challenges the
Ballot Access weve seen that in the amounts of
Ballot Access that states that you listed before that the green party and
Libertarian Party have managed to get on now there under these very unfair conditions where the pandemic is not allowing them to get on the remainder of states but there have been some recent legal decisions i believe in ohio and other states that are lowering those petitions requirements and also allowing online
Ballot Access addition and that is making that easier and so thats good and that could potentially also make it easier to get new parties on the ballot because the same requirements legally go hand in hand after the general election which is precisely what we intend to do as the movement for a
Peoples Party get
Ballot Access in all 50 states run in the may. Terms and then run in the president ial election for the next one you only got a little bit of time left but i want to ask you how how has the we know its presented challenges the funding for democrats and republicans how has how is fund raising been affected by 3rd parties you know thats a lot of times they dont have big money people and big corporate lobbyists to get money into the party its mostly just whatever people can afford whatever
Common People can afford how has this affected fund raising for 3rd parties. Its absolutely true and speaking for the movement for
Peoples Party are our fundraising are volunteering the number of people who have signed up has absolutely exploded in the wake of this and but also in the wake of this financial meltdown and in the nomic passerby and also in the wake of the new rigged election particularly inside the
Democratic Party primary and so i suspect that the same is true inside the green party
Libertarian Party it would have to speak to that but there is discussed that its bubbling up against the 2 parties that i think its going to find it will be result in a major new party coming out of this election perhaps not necessarily in this election or coming out of it i can definitely definitely after a group of big i see that on the horizon thank you as always for coming on debate and giving us that perspective from outside the 2 party drumbeat that so many other
Corporate News shows want to push others thank you so much. Great to be with you. And were going to show up today with news that the acting executive secretary of the u. N. Convention on biological diversity has called for a ban on wildlife what markets like the crime to move on china that many believe was the starting point of the covert 19 epidemic this comes on the heels of a recent draft plan by the
Un Convention on biologic biological diversity that called for safeguarding of 30 percent of the your slanted sea areas by 2030 from mans destruction and pollution 30 percent with the hope that by 50 percent by. 2015 in order to help stave off earths 6 mass extinction that many experts believe human beings and their actions are directly responsible for the impact they estimate that as many as 1000000 land and
Sea Creatures could be wiped out by human activity if nothing is done 1000000 extinctions you know my friend sometimes i wonder if we are the real virus threatening our future so lets not be by riiss while we are on lockdown lets take some time to care for not only one another but our planet as well. All right that is our show for you today remember everyone in this world were not told that were love the lord told you all i love you i rolled with her and im in the sure keep on watching all those hawks up there and have a great night everybody. Thousands of american men and women choose to serve in the countrys military and the decision. Every song came to a complete. You know told to shove what theyd kill me and i see how it destroyed my life many screamed at me in. My arm and he raped me thinking if you take into account that women dont report because of the extreme retaliation its probably somewhere near about half a 1000000 women have now been sexually assaulted in the us military rape is a very very traumatizing that happened but ive never seen trauma like ive seen women who are veterans who suffered military sexual trauma reporting rape is more likely to get the victim punished than the offender and almost 10 year career which i was very invested in and i gave that up to report a sex offender who was not even going to justice or put on the registry this is simply an issue in violence males. Actual predators for the large part of whoever is there to prey upon whether thats a man or woman. Join me every thursday on the alex salmond show and ill be speaking to guest of the world of politics sport this list im showbusiness ill see that. The world is driven by a dream shaped by one person with those words. Thinks. We dare to ask. This is r. T. U. K. Were live from
Central London welcome to our viewers from around the world we are currently waiting for the governments daily
Coronavirus Press briefing live from the street and it will be given today by the foreign secretary dominic rob meanwhile headlines this hour. Britains coronavirus death toll rises bill 32 fowls and make it the worst hit country in europe and 2nd only to the u. S. Worldwide says the number of fatalities in care homes almost double in a week ill be talking to an exporter and
Health Statistics a little later. The government board has its track and trace up on the isle of wight despite concerns of a prophecy and security we hear from a
Technology Experts in. The u. K. The u. S. Claimed rival states of targeting flipboard trees working on the
Coronavirus Response with malicious cyber campaigns. Coronavirus to think is in britain of the highest in europe and only 2nd to the u. S. Worldwide has fatalities increased to over 32000 thats is the art of why it is trying the governments track and trace app despite ongoing privacy concerns on the case and he joins me with the latest so isa how do the figures stack up. Well they do shows very start reading because it means that the
United Kingdom is now the country you know a lot have to interrupt you there because as promised we can now join the government in downing street for the daily briefing. Gulf nation and welcome to todays downing street press
Conference Im joined by professor
Angela Mclean chief scientific advisor. First let me give an update on the latest data that we have on corona virus and i can report that through the governments ongoing monitoring and
Testing Program that as of today we have now being 1000000 383842 tests the corona virus across the u. K. Including 84806 tests yesterday we know that 194990 people have tested positive and thats an increase of 4406 cases since yesterday and of those who have tested positive 29427 have very sadly died and the hearts go out to everyone who has lost a loved one throughout the course of our challenge we continue to see evidence of a flattening of the peak of this virus but as the figures that ive just read out show its not over yet so in the coming days sage will update ministers with their latest scientific advice and does it or we will make sure that we continue we continue to be guided by their advice as we take the decisions on next steps in fighting these fires. Alongside the advice that we get from say our 5 tests remain absolutely key 1st we must continue to boost and it jess capacity so that the n. H. S. Cannot be overwhelmed 2nd we need to see a sustained and consistent fall in the number of deaths. Thirdly we must see further reductions in the rate of infection to manageable levels across all different settings and areas. 4th we must be confident that the n. H. S. Will be able to cope with future demands including as a result of any changes that we make to existing measures or indeed any new measures that we might wish to take. And 5th and above all we need to be confident that any adjustments to the current measures wont risk a 2nd peak of infections that could then overwhelm the n. H. S. Later on this week the pm will update the country on the measures and the decisions that we will need to take to protect the n. H. S. To safeguard the economy and to avoid the risk of a 2nd peak that would be damaging both for
Public Health but also for jobs and the wider economy. And as we consider the decisions that we will take next to protect life but also to protect our way of life its now clear that the 2nd phase will be different we will need to adjust to a new normal where we as a society adapt to safe new ways to work to travel to interact and to go about our daily lives. Weve never experienced anything like this 1st stage of covert 19 in terms of the scale of the lives lost but also the lockdown that is required. And as we go forward we want to make sure that the next phase is more comfortable is more sustainable and prevents lasting damage to jobs and livelihoods. But we need to be under no illusions the next stage wont be easy. And if were going to protect life and preserve our way of life as i just said we must continue to be guided by the scientific advice we receive and make sure the next steps that we take are sure footed and sustainable. Now before i hand over to. Angela to run through the data slides i want to provide an update on one further feature that coronavirus as a challenge has thrown up for this country and indeed for the whole world. Once the vast majority of people and countries have come together and rallied to this
International Mission to defeat coronavirus there will always be some who seek to exploit a crisis for their own criminal and hostile ends. We know that cyber criminals and other malicious groups are targeting individuals businesses and other organizations by deploying covert 1000 related scams and phishing emails and that includes groups that in the
Cyber Security world and known as advanced persistent threat groups sophisticated networks of hackers who try to breach
Computer Systems and we have clear evidence now that these criminal gangs are actively targeting national and
International Organizations which are responding to the covert 1000 pandemic which you have to say makes them particularly dangerous and venal at this time so were working with the targets of those attacks with the potential targets and with. Others to make sure that theyre aware of the cyber threat and that they can take the steps necessary to protect themselves now at the very least mitigate the harm that could be. Wrought against them so with that in mind today the u. K. s
National Cybersecurity center and the u. S. Cyber security and
Infrastructure Security Agency have published a joint warning about these groups and weve offered some advice on the cyber criminals and other activists who are seeking to exploit the 19 through malicious cyber activity. The teams have identified campaigns targeting health care bodies pharmaceutical
Companies Research organizations and also various different arms of local government. Now there are various objectives and motivations that lie behind these attacks from fraud on one hand to espionage but they tend to be designed to steal bulk personal data intellectual property and wider information that supports those aims and theyre often linked with other state taxes and we expect this kind of predatory criminal behavior to continue to evolve over the coming weeks and months ahead and were taking a range of measures to tackle that threat. So as weve done today well share advice on the nature of those threats to enable businesses citizens and our
International Partners to better defend themselves against the full range of cyber attack from hostile states to criminal gangs. Preventative action is often the very best way to deny attack is the opportunities that theyre looking for the
National Cybersecurity sent off as a range of practical advice to safeguard against
Cyber Attacks from things like using the use of online passwords to guidance on what are the trusted sources of online information related to covert 19 like the gov to ek sites or
Public Health england. Now as well as providing practical advice the u. K. Will continue to counter those who conduct
Cyber Attacks and we working very closely with our
International Partners to respond to the threats but also to deter the gangs and the arms of state who lie behind them. Were absolutely determined to defeat coronavirus and also to defeat those trying to exploit the situation for their own nefarious aims and with that ill pass over to professor mclean to give this latest update on the data dominic rob theyre giving the u. K. Government daily
Coronavirus Press briefing and he said the peak of the virus was continuing to flatten and that the government would continue to listen to scientific advice when considering easing the lockdown he also warned of the threat from
Cyber Attacks during the threat of ours but he said is it with me is so. The figures rob mentioned were an underestimate according to the oh and s. Yeah absolutely all the way throughout this crisis we know that the o. E. M. s have taken it a slightly different approach to how they calculate deaths and that they include those who have died in canada homes and outside of hospitals as well as those who have died in hospital the government have themselves started also doing that where they can and now called into the office of
National Statistics leading up to the 24th of april the ucas death toll was almost 30000. 00 that and would suggest that in that time as sids and that has elapsed that in fact until now the death toll could be significantly higher than that and in that same week leading up to that period 6000 people have died in camp alone the week before that it was at 3000 so all of these figures suggesting that the numbers are perhaps a bit significantly higher than initially thought when it comes to those who have died are testing positive for kind of it 90 now the government also released the daily death toll figures those 693. 00 for the
United Kingdom weve also seen revelations coming out with regards to bars johnson we know that he made that claim that he had visited a hospital and shaken hands with everybody but now a subgroup of say the
Scientific Advisory group for medicine is a very real and it was at the very same day that officials had cited the public shouldnt be shaking hands should avoid shaking hands that would appear that it was the same day
Boris Johnson was boasting about having shaken hands with everybody in that hospital and he says the tracking apps being rolled out isnt it despite those privacy concerns. Absolutely we saw yesterday 177
Cyber Security experts writing a joint statement warning that the use of this app this contact raising could lead to significant thats. Valence concerns spying way beyond the end of the coded 90 crisis now we know that
Matt Hancock Health secretary yesterday announced a roadie out of the trial of this app on the isle of wight there are thought to be 80000. 00 households literally there and michael gove the child of the dutch of lancaster said that he hopes more than half of those households where download the app while the local m. P. Bob seeley also stressing that people on the show should. Talk into the buffets behind this as i was doing yesterday they were saying that if we can get 50 percent if we can get just half of island has who got smart phones to to be using this app then we could be the 1st place in britain to get rid of this virus prior to getting rid of this virus throughout our nation or certainly minimizing it as much as possible because what we know is what we have at the moment isnt a life now c. N. N. Has sources of revealed to the journal and h s j h s j journal that the contract is concentrating at has a number of issues with it and that those have come up jury test each to do with cybersecurity clinical safety and general performances in addition of course to concerns surrounding surveillance and spying but the n. H. S. Is that just a spokesperson said that apps arent usually at assessed at this stage is still the be to stage a still the testing stage and that little reviews would be carried out now meanwhile well be seeing those
Government Experts that were so used to seeing in those daily briefings theyve been updating and pieced as to the latest in the fight against code at 98 and can see that there have been a number of mistakes made by management along the way in the early phases and ive said this before i think if we managed to ramp the
Testing Capacity quicker it would be beneficial and. You know for all sorts of reasons that didnt happen. And i think its clear you need lots of testing for this were in a very different world. Digital capacities were focusing on all the out here but we have close on not the only country is one of the things that perhaps we havent yet done is linked at. Oprahs so 3 the digital progression and opportunity in some of preparedness planning so i think that will be in addition to the points which patrick has made that may be some of the changes that it thinks 3 how we can be prepared at an early stage. So that it follows that the chief scientific adviser and dr
Jenny Harries the deputy chief medical officer screwed. Thank you for that update out in case theyre well to discuss all further now joined by
Technology Expert bill new bill good to see there tell us werent there so many concerns around previous insecurity over the south well this earth has been developed in a real hurry and weve chosen to take an approach that is totally at all to almost the whole of the rest of the world i think only australia and ourselves and taking a centralized approach to this whereas almost every other countries dont yet decentralized approach it reminds me of the time when we were focusing on herd immunity its all out there or else its all rapidly backtracking a short while and blowing everyone in their footsteps i think in last a certain amount of time the concern here is that whenever you do this sort of exercise there is going to be a tradeoff between your privacy the data they collect about you and your location against the efficiency and the usability of the application and actually achieving the goals it sets out to do a lot of security and privacy experts and besides myself of already some didnt know to caution around the security improves the aspects but weve also got to look at the approach the government said and really question whether its actually going to work. The application here is not one that can run in the background use a huge boost as is possible with the approach that the rest of the world has taken you actually have to have the open you actually have to prevent your phone from switching off going to sleep youre not allowed to use another application where you can prove it prevents you collecting data the chances of people finding this user friendly approach is next to nil the moment you take a call or you look on google apps or you put your phone in your pocket and it goes to sleep it stops providing the sort of connectivity and monitoring that you need 5 and therefore theres a major usability flaw and if people are finding that its not user friendly that they have security and privacy concerns then how much of the population are going to download it we saw in singapore where theres a country where there is enormous respect for authority only uptake of that era of the order of 20 percent we need to she achieve 50 or 60 percent for this to be viable and it very much looks like thats not to be achieved by the sounds of what youre saying build this trial and the other white could well fail but there again we need to do this the op is just going through the teething stages and so surely thats the whole point of doing this and can it not be improved upon then bearing in mind if those problems do arise during the trial you just mention. Whichever approach we take will require a certain amount of testing indeed but its a bit like the herd immunity approach if were taking the wrong direction and the rest of the world is doing
Something Different then we constantly need 2 weeks ask ourselves are we taking the right approach here or we going down a dead end alley where we can actually have to regroup and rethink a short while and then for the rest of the world ive really dont think thats an application that you have to keep on going all the time on your phone you have to prevent yourself using other application that have to prevent it going to sleep and. And you have to be wary of the fact your battery might run out of your money all time just to provide a level of connectivity is going to be so poor on the usability stakes that people arent going to either download it or recommend it to friends and if we dont have these mutual recommendations we dont have massive uptake especially with some of the probes in security concerns that its not going to get the penetration that it needs in order to be viable ok bill thank you very much indeed for all of that bill new. Or discuss the latest o. S. Figures and are joined by the former head of health and the losses at the office for
National Statistics
Jamie Jenkins jamie hello to you thanks for joining us good afternoon while the figures are alarming arent they but of course the reality appears to be a lot worse well you know when asked about 11 days behind because they one of the fastest it registered in deaths in the world but obviously when a sad death occurs it takes a bit of time then for that to go through the system where its registered and so what theyve published today is the data up to the 24th of april and thats the number of deaths that theyve registered involving the 90 machine on the death certificate and they for have told us today in england and wales thats about 32000 so youd add a little back for scotland and
Northern Ireland as well but what ive been trying to do is to take me on as data and you can kind of extrapolate this to whats actually going on in the 11 days since then by using the delio
Hospital Data that we get and i think in the k. Were probably over own 50000 deaths now that kind of you could attribute to the current 19 pandemic and theyll be tested directly caused by it and then kind of deaths and kind of happen in the community because of the covert knotting situation such as people perhaps not going to hospital so it was always recognised to look at excess deaths over and above what the average would be and i think thats about 50000 in the u. K. At the moment were getting figures overnight from the government and used to work for the owner so why is there this 11 day delay so that as i said the onus is one of the fastest in the world at reginae so when a death occurs you normally have 5 days then to actually register that death so theyll be a time lag from that and then obviously the statistician the b. O. s the need to click through all of that information get it all in from different parts of the country so inevitably there will be some time lags and you can get the daily data that comes from the hospitals but even asif is from time lag so for example we get to know how many people die in each of the hospitals in each of the 4 countries but we will mean for example of deaths that occurred. Yes today if they were told us they were about 40 deaths yesterday we would expect in about 7 days time to find out there was probably another 120. 00 deaths because of the time lag to decay of the figures in the way they collated does that explain why perhaps we are one of the worst performing in europe because there are differences in other countries although not in how they calculate their total deaths so yeah if you go on social media or look in the press it as a lot of comparisons being made be
Different Countries and i probably would say you want to treat them with a bit of caution because after yesterday the italian stats agencies thats the equivalent of the own ass what they did is they looked at their data for the whole of march and what theyve actually shown is that there was probably 25000. 00 more deaths in march and would have occurred in a normal year and thats actually more than double what theyve treated to cope with previously so so youve got to try and compare apples with apples and no apples with patches and i think what some of the of the leading statisticians analysts across the world have been kind of agreeing on is that you could go to basically look at the excess deaths without the number of deaths over and above whats actually you would expect that to happen in the country and thats the kind of information that should be starting to come through over the coming weeks and when youve got that ben its better to keep compact countries because for example u. K. May have a higher number than italy because theyve calculated on slightly different bases so i think thats what we need to do is look at the total number of excess deaths over and about what you would expect and that will give us a better estimate as to what the actual comparisons are going thank you very much indeed for joining us. Still to come this. Reports claim for the states are targeting the british and us celebs focusing on
Coronavirus Response with a malicious cyber campaign. I think ron to china will hand gate and the saudis are trying to disrupt the american shale industry oh my god i magine that theyre trying to disrupt the american shell industry. We go to work so straight home for. The world is driven by a dream shaped by frank person. Dares thinks. We dared to ask. From. The u. K. And u. S. Claim rival states at targeting the or trees working on the
Coronavirus Response with malicious side the campaigns dont rub the foreign secretaries well that saw the criminals aided by hostile states a seeking to exploit the
Coronavirus Crisis because shut it was dusty has the latest on all of this so. Tell us more about whats happening here sharia all the government is claiming that militia siva campaigns of being waged against laboratories pharmaceutical companies and indeed other
Health Care Organizations those at the forefront trying to beat the governments response to the
Coronavirus Crisis that apparently these online threats and looking for anything that they can get their hands on to try and aids their own retrospective responses to the
Coronavirus Crisis using there is objectives and motivations all the way from fraud to espionage according to the government and weve just heard from dominic roth the foreign secretary he says that the u. K. Is absolutely determined not only to tackle
Coronavirus Crisis but also eliminate the threat of those trying to exploit this crisis we know that cyber criminals and other malicious groups are targeting individuals businesses and other organizations by deploying covert 19 related scams and phishing emails and that includes groups that are in the
Cyber Security world and known as advanced persistent threat groups sophisticated networks or because youre trying to breach
Computer Systems and we have clear evidence now that these criminal gangs are actively targeting national and
International Organizations which are responding to the covert 1000 pandemic which you have to say makes them particularly dangerous and venal at this time. Now just to reiterate the government has not named any countries behind these socalled attacks but that hasnt stopped the
Mainstream Media jumping to their own conclusions collating their own suspected lists and at the top of the of the likes of china iran and of course russia now all of this comes 2 days after g c h q has released warnings that hackers linked to hostile states are now going off to u. K. Universities attempting to produce vaccines and testing kits and were already hearing in that case particular of retaliations particularly from
Tobias Albert to is the chairman of the
Defense Committee saying that britain should retaliate appropriately adding that the current
Global Destruction of covert 19 is the perfect fog of war to conduct
Cyber Attacks plus were also hearing reactions from spy offices at
National Cybersecurity center branding these alleged attacks as absolutely awesomely reprehensible and confirm that they were working around the clock to try and decipher exactly who the culprit is but by the way and its a big by the way g c h q has not provided any evidence that theres been any successful attacks even happening so no concrete evidence in this case no concrete evidence in the case before but both we have seen that state actors are being blamed and were hearing that
Mainstream Medias commentators are trying to pin the blame on the likes of china iran and of course russia show thank you very much indeed for that and thats it for the moment told more news for you in the hall for now from now.
