your registration needs to be redone with the do not call list so we need your personal information they're gathering your personal information to make you a victim of identity theft you never ever have to reregister for the do not call list most of these scams are are not obvious either they say they speak with the authority of the i.r.s. or something but these people aren't going to call you generally are they. no there really not and that's the thing when you get a call from the i.r.s. you get a call from social security administration or medicare it is in from them even if your phone says it is because is a technique called they can make it look like it's legit and i don't believe caller id i got an e-mail and quickly deleted it about scam number three we're going to talk about seems to be right. yeah that's one of the things that's a good good telltale if it's coming from some individual's name in fact they probably are part of a bot net of computers that are used to send this out but sometimes the e-mail address that sending it may even look close so you do look for that you look for the grammar problems but like you said anyone can get a a low goal i used to work in a prison in the there's a the old con artists there said when they did it it took talent now any fourth of the computer now what's this i hear about a new social security scam you don't similar to the same type of phishing thing and seniors are particularly targeted and there's an interesting reason why there's a part of the brain as we age that controlled skepticism that becomes less viable computer problem requires us to reconfirm our social security number of course it's not from social security and you turn over that social security number and that identity thief is going to get service that's going to help someone from putting a lien on your home based on information about the title of your home that they can get from city hall is this another thing to be on the lookout for and what can we do. you know there are a lot of scams out there in the involving the various registries of deeds in which you can get someone to check on your title for you or to get you some certified title and they're all scams you don't need any of this so you can do this on your own you can check on this and there's nothing that's going to prevent an illegal lien and what they're doing way to go it's not as protected by law you want to do a credit freeze at each of the three major credit reporting agencies so even if someone does have your social security number they're not going to be able to access your credit yeah i hear radio ads all over the place for life lock and similar services but you've put links on your website correct how do we find those links where you can do it yourself about the credit freeze. yeah and you can do it yourself with a credit freeze you can do it for free with credit monitoring and what you go to scam aside and where it says search the search the web site or search for scams you just put in credit monitoring or credit freeze and it'll come up with the links that you can do it off for yourself at much less cost or even free and then if you want to apply for a credit card or have some other reason for people to be checking on your credit you can on freeze it and then refreeze it right yeah and it's actually pretty easy to do i had to do this myself following my own advice for a change a lot i got to admit my my wife throws her credit from before i did and i was leasing a car so it was a very very simple procedure and very quick to unfreeze my credit get the loan once the bank checked out my credit and then freeze it back again and it is not a difficult procedure so paying one of these services is superfluously your opinion absolutely you don't need someone else to do that for you right ok scam six of six sounds really heinous to me in front social security numbers are being sold on the dark web. yeah the dark web is a social security number for your child in order to have the child listed on your income taxes as a deduction so the children have these social security numbers they get stolen sold to other criminals and because kids aren't applying inference aren't applying for credit they're not getting loans and not applying for jobs it can be years maybe not even done till they're eighteen maybe applying for a student loan or a car loan or trying to get a job that they find out that they've been a victim of identity theft they've got problems with the i.r.s. they've got problems with creditors some states allow you to freeze the credit of your children so again you can go to scam aside put in child identity theft and find out what you need to do to protect your children so in short hang up the phone
