Created: May 11, 2021 10:54 PM (ABC 6 News) - One of three finalists applying for the top job at Rochester Public Schools will take over for one year. The school board interviewed the three candidates who will replace Supt. Michael Muñoz for the year. Muñoz is resigning after admitting to plagiarism. Board members asked finalists 18 pre-determined questions ranging from why they are interested in the job, how they would build trust and public confidence, and improve outcomes for underrepresented students. Candidates also answered questions on how they would address mental health, change, public concerns, and their budgeting experiences. Dr. Kent Pekel, president and CEO of the nonprofit organization Search Institute based in Minneapolis, told the board his work has a lot to do with building relationships. At one point, Pekel brought up the importance of never forgetting the lessons learned from the pandemic and what needs to happen when school begins this fall.
