River Fire threatens major highway leading into Yosemite

The River Fire has ripped across more than 8,000 acres in the High Sierra foothills of Madera and Mariposa counties, doubling in size since Sunday, triggering evacuations, destroying at least five structures and threatening Highway 41, which leads into the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park.
The fire ignited Sunday near Oak Grove Road and Oak Grove School Road, about 20 miles southwest of Yosemite, 10 miles southeast of Mariposa, 8 miles west of Awhanee and 11 miles west from Oakhurst. It is 10% contained.
