The restaurant owners today urged the government to reduce value-added tax (VAT) on fast food sellers to 7.5 per cent from the existing 15 per cent.
They also demanded keeping the VAT rate in between 3-5 per cent for lower and middle category eateries and street foods.
For canteens and cafeterias of educational institutions, industries and foods sold in hostels, they want the rate to be fixed at highest 2 per cent.
