About the role The ISIS Muon and Neutron Source has around 36 instruments, many of which require samples, neutron guides, beam absorbers and detectors to be moved remotely in a number of different geometric planes. To achieve this, mechatronics systems are used and these components are now vital to the success of many of the ISIS experiments. To help with maintaining and improving these mechatronics systems, the ISIS Design Division (IDD) now has a vacancy for a Real-Time Control Software Lead Engineer within the Electrical Design Group. Within this role, you will be the lead technical engineer, working on both development and support of the real-time control software running on the ISIS EtherCAT Motion Control Units. The role will focus on improving the capabilities of this systems in new features and increased diagnostic capabilities. You will build a small team to help develop and deliver the software requirements of the TwinCAT based motion control projects. You will also work closely with other members of the Mechatronics team to commission and characterise the performance of new motion components, with a specific focus on the software aspects.
