Randolph Co. second in state in deer harvest | News, Sports, Jobs

CHARLESTON — Randolph County harvested the second-most deer in the state during the two-week buck firearms season in West Virginia.
Hunters in the Mountain State harvested 38,776 antlered deer during the season, according to preliminary data collected through the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources’ electronic game checking system.
This year’s buck harvest was 6 percent higher than in 2019, when hunters took 36,796 bucks.
The top 10 counties by harvest are Preston (1,469), Randolph (1,428), Hampshire (1,380), Greenbrier (1,317), Pendleton (1,296), Hardy (1,169), Braxton (1,089), Grant (1,088), Pocahontas (1,082), and Jackson (1,063).
Upshur County harvested 1,055 bucks this year, while Barbour County tallied 846, and Tucker County harvested 632.
Hunters in Randolph County led the state by harvesting 64 turkeys during the 2020 fall turkey season. Rounding out the top five counties for harvested birds are Greenbrier (53), Monroe (46), Nicholas (45) and Preston (42). All counties in the top five, except for Preston, had a four-week season. Preston County had a two-week season.
