Promise from a Fiery Mountain Written by: May 12, 2021 I often think about promises that are designed to build, strengthen, or heal relationships. In a variety of circumstances, the same agreement between the same people can look different, have different actions and different effects. The primary commonality is a goal of weaving bonds of love. Maddie and Peter made a marriage promise that they would make all major decisions together. Early in their marriage, they decided, together, that he would live his dream as lead pilot for a major corporation. They decided, together, where they would live. They decided, together, which motor home they would purchase when Peter retired. They decided together where they would travel. They decided together what treatment Peter would receive for an aggressive form of leukemia. When Peter was exhausted and in pain, they decided together to end the treatment. They decided together how they would spend their last days as a couple. Same words. Same promise. Very different circumstances. Very different outcomes. Same commitment. Same trust. Through it all, a deepening bond of love.
