The Indian government has announced a reduction of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder, hoping to gain political support ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. This reduction is in addition to the existing targeted subsidy for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries. The government also plans to provide 75 lakh new Ujjwala connections, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 10.35 crore. LPG pricing has been a significant issue in Indian politics, particularly as it affects women who manage domestic kitchens.
