A 16-year-old was shot in the arm Sunday evening in the City of Poughkeepsie. Through the first half of 2021, the city has seen six incidents in which people were struck by gunfire – two of them homicides – and nine incidents in which property was damaged by gunfire. In all, there were 33 times police confirmed shots were fired. Mayor Rob Rolison called the uptick in incidents part of a “culture of violence,” not just in the city but across the state. "They will shoot anybody in any place and that is a very troubling aspect of this gun violence and we are not alone," he said during a press event Monday. "Every day it's someplace else."
