Portugal to ditch tax breaks for foreign residents amid housing crisis

Portugal's Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, has announced plans to close the tax breaks scheme for foreign residents in the country by 2024. The scheme, known as Non-Habitual Resident, was introduced in 2009 to attract investors and professionals during the financial crisis. However, Costa stated that the scheme had caused inflated housing prices and was no longer justified.
