It is understood police will be training in empty homes owned by Kāinga Ora, a Crown agency that provides rental homes for people in need. Housing Action Porirua co-ordinator Jasmine Taankink said even though empty houses were being used, those houses were still surrounded by other homes with people in them. “The training they're doing is when children are walking to and from a nearby school,” Taankink said. Simon O'Connor/Stuff Police training has been planned on February 17 and February 23 from 8am to 4.30pm in Cannons Creek, Porirua. (File photo) “We’ve also got a lot of elderly people. We don't know what’s gone on in people’s life or their experiences with the police and if this training could be traumatising for them.”
