Polar Plunge raises over $9,000 for Special Olympics Polar Plunge raises over $9,000 for Special Olympics By Hannah Campbell | February 6, 2021 at 10:33 PM CST - Updated February 7 at 12:49 PM PARAGOULD, Ark. (KAIT) - Dozens of people came out for the Polar Plunge at Crowleyâs Ridge State Park on Saturday, all to benefit Special Olympics Arkansas. This year looked a little different due to the pandemic. Social distancing was enforced, masks were worn, and some even did a virtual plunge. Area One Training Director for Special Olympics Arkansas, Skip Schalk, says this is a crucial annual fundraising event. âAll of the funds we raise today will allow us to provide free events and training for all of our athletes all over area one,â said Schalk. âIn the coming weeks, weâre going to start slowly opening back up and doing events and different things, so to make this free for our athletes, we need to still have events like this to be able to do it.â
