THE FOLLOWING REVIEW was written between my visit to the opening of the “Constructed Geographies” exhibition in Portugal two months ago, and the recent death of its senior curator, Jean-Louis Cohen, at the age of seventy-four. For the architecture world, the loss of this formidable scholar and teacher is a calamity; for me, it has come as a particular blow.
