Oxnard mobile cart corn vendors must follow rules, Ventura County says

Street vendors selling roasted or boiled corn and other food from carts are a familiar sight at Los Angeles concerts and sporting events.
But Ventura County officials say those operators, known as "eloteros," are not legally authorized to sell their food. They are required to follow state guidelines, just like those in Oxnard.
In a presentation Tuesday before the Oxnard City Council, Ventura County environmental health enforcers said it appears the state guidelines are not being enforced in Los Angeles County.
"I think for me, for this county, we don't want it to get to the point where it's so out of control," said Graciela Garcia, Ventura County's head of environmental health. "It's important to address it as we see it. It's not safe to eat from operators…(who) cannot wash their hands. That is a super basic food concern for me."
