A pair of heavy-lift cranes working in tandem on Tuesday afternoon positioned one of the 125-foot-long, 100,000 pound beams that will support the decking on the new University of Alabama overpass. The $21 million Second Avenue overpass project is progressing toward its projected completion date in the summer of 2021. The overpass will connect 15th Street with Paul W. Bryant Drive, creating a new, centrally located corridor into the UA campus that won’t be hampered by the train tracks Tim Leopard, the University of Alabama's senior associate vice president of campus development, said the project will bring a major improvement to the campus as well as the city of Tuscaloosa.
