Record-Courier editorial board Accountability is essential in a democracy. That’s why we are disturbed that Portage County commissioners have decided to no longer stream their meetings for the public. The board began livestreaming meetings last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As far as we’re concerned, nothing has changed. Even though vaccinations have begun, there have been no changes regarding advice by the CDC and Portage health officials who continue to urge people to wear masks and stay at home when possible. We can see no downside to allowing people to watch from home, work or wherever they are. In fact, livestreaming meetings allows the public to easily tune in to a process that far too many people ignore.
